"Make one move and this sword will find its way to the other side of you." Caanan said through clenched teeth, his sword being pressed against the back of the demon he had encountered. The very same demon that had chased Akamu not long ago and had nearly killed Caanan with its poison.

"You should be dead." The demon said, recognizing the voice behind him. Indeed, hearing someone who should have died weeks ago was a frightening thing.

"I should be a lot of things," Caanan mused, knowing he had the upper hand. "Why are you after Aki?"

"Aki? Is that what you call him? Akamu, the bastard son of Achaius! Aki?!" The demon roared. He may be inches away from suffering a fatal wound, but he could not help but get angry at such a petty nickname.

"Achaius? Is that Akamu's father?" Caanan said. "The one who just left him." Caanan's bitterness towards his own father fuelled his loathing for this demon and Akamu's father.

"He wanted me to find his son before the authorities did." The demon said sincerely, the severity of his task beginning to weigh on him. The names reawakening his desire to aid Achaius.

"Why? Why are you after him? Why are they after him?" Caanan said, pressing the sword's tip harder against the demon's back, the poison filled spikes out of reach of Caanan's hands. Suddenly, however, the demon whirled around in a fluid motion and drew himself away from the window and away from Caanan, drawing up a dagger to face Caanan with.

"That is none of your concern, human." He replied, a bitter tone to emphasize the word 'human.'

"Why do you want to get to him before the authorities, then?" Caanan asked. He wanted answers.

"Because he must know the task he must perform. He will not survive it otherwise." The demon said, his eyes glancing about the room, looking for an exit.

"Why do you care?!" Caanan asked, too enthralled in knowing the truth to realize what the demon was about to do and, before Caanan could get an answer, the demon ran for the door, opened it and stormed out. Caanan followed and the two went through the maze-like corridors of the castle, Caanan getting close, but never close enough to catch the demon with a dagger or sword...

Caanan and the demon must have played the most annoying game of cat and mouse for hours. There were times when both lost track of one another and each were secretly stalking the castle. Caanan had to admit--this demon was good. To be able to avoid the guards without being seen was quite a task, especially now that the castle was so heavily armed.

Night had overpowered the skies when Caanan finally saw the demon's green skin in the light of a torch and began to stalk him, slowly. He didn't want to chase him, for that might amount to another few hours of cat and mouse. The demon knew he could not get to Akamu without first facing Caanan, but that didn't mean he couldn't keep tabs on Akamu while he was avoiding his persecutor.

Vines sprung from the ground and curled around the demon's legs, up his body and to his arms, freezing him in place as Caanan briskly walked over to him. The demon looked at Caanan with hate blistering his eyes. The two were as annoyed with each other as they ever could have been and just as Caanan was ready to beat answers out of the demon, he heard Liam's telepathic message of the siege being started. Without question  he turned and began to run to the first group of guards he saw to be briefed on what had happened, leaving the demon stuck to the floor by vines...
