Gideon was a bit sad she wanted to leave so early, but he couldn't blame her. He did just ask her to make him dinner and really dinner wasn't that long away. Of course he wasn't asking her to make something really fancy and extravagant, just something that was simple but tasteful. "Alright then, let me walk you out." He said leading her off of the ballroom floor.

He figured by now the body would be gone from the streets, but just in case it wasn't he took to a different exit. He debated whether or not he should escort her home and decided just to ask. "Would you care for an escort home? I wouldn't mind at all. This party is getting to be a bit old for me."

After what she'd been through that evening, Bronwen really didn't want to walk home alone. "Thank you for offering. The truth is, after being so pale and ill earlier due to what happened this evening, I really don't think I should be alone." She shivered in spite of herself. "I know that he's gone now, and that none of the things he said are true, but still...this isn't a night I will easily forget."

She had to laugh, though, when he said the party was getting old to him. "Oh come now, they're not that boring...except maybe when you don't know very many people, like me. My betrothed, Cadfan, was a friend of my brother's, you see, so I never associated with very many people besides my brother's friends and our family. There don't seem to be many noble ladies near my age around, so growing up, I was my own playmate. But if you're someone who knows a lot of people, like Lady Hatshepsut, for example, there's a lot of catching up to do, I'd imagine."

"It's not a problem at all. If my lady will lead the way to her home." Gideon said giving her a polite bow. "I am glad I could be of some service to you this evening. Even if it did mean the shedding of blood. Sometimes it is something that can not be avoided. I'm sure you'll put it behind you before too long." He looped her arm through his as they walked.

"I know a...few people, but sometimes I find the balls a bit...much. I can only stand to be at them for so long. Lady Hatshepsut is a special case. She is close to out age, but seems to be as old as...well as old as my grandmother. I haven't quite figured her out yet, but she is very interesting to talk to. I would suggest you become good friends with her. She is one of the more notable nobles in Arca." He said pleasantly.

"Oh, I will," she assured him. "It is rather strange, I agree, how Lady Hatshepsut is only five years older than me and yet, earlier- though I'm almost sure you never saw- she was stroking my hair and comforting me as though she was the mother I never got a chance to have." It was confusing and reassuring at the same time.

Speaking of which, the feeling that went through her as Gideon looped her arm through his was like nothing she'd ever felt before. No one had ever been this nice to her since Cadfan was still alive, and it was a relief that she could still be liked by the opposite sex even if it might never lead to love. Bronwen purposely took her time giving Gideon directions to her house. She knew that having the distraction of company could possibly ruin her dinner, yet she almost didn't care. She certainly wasn't eager to have him leave just yet.

"I've always suspected that there is a very intriguing story behind Lady Hatshepsut. What though I could never put my finger on, but I'd like to find out someday. I mean as far as I know she is the only one in her family and it's been that way for years. I have heard mention her father, but it doesn't seem like a good relationship." Gideon said with a curious look on his face. He was enjoying this quiet walk they were sharing to her house.

It hardly seemed possible that time could go by so quickly. It seemed that almost the second Bronwen finished giving directions, she was home. She didn't feel like asking Gideon to leave, so she just stood there, unsure what to do. If he left, she would be bored, but if he didn't leave, he might meet her father. Not that that was a bad thing, but... it might make both of them uncomfortable. It would make Bronwen uncomfortable because her father might start asking questions, and it might make Gideon uncomfortable to have to answer them. Besides one wasn't supposed to meet their date's parents right away.

It seemed they arrived to Bronwen's house before he wanted to. Time flew when one wasn't thinking about it though. "Well. I guess I should be letting you make that dinner now." He said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. Honestly he didn't want to leave her, but he didn't think it would be proper for him to stick around when he had just met her. "Um...maybe I should just stick around. I mean it is almost diner time and it would take me too long to go home and then come back. Of course it's what ever you think m'lady."

Anonymous

"You can stick around if you help set the table," Bronwen said with a little wink. "I'm going to change into something a little more comfortable and then I'll start on dinner. I don't like to wear all this get-up when I cook." She would perhaps not look as pretty, but she really didn't want to get stains on the dress she was currently wearing because it was one of her favorites. When she had changed into her "cooking clothes", which were a plain brown dress and an apron, she started on dinner. There would be roast turkey, stuffing, various vegetables, and for dessert, the cheesecake, which she had put chocolate in. Good smells soon filled the house.

Gideon smiled widely at her. "Of course I'll help." As she went to go get dressed he took a moment to take off his outer coat and vest that he was wearing. Then he unbuttoned the shirt he was wearing to make himself more comfortable. Of course he had no idea where the plates and silverware was, so he asked one of the servants in the house where it was at. After a bit of scurrying around to find things he finally got the table set up. He briefly saw Bronwen head into the kitchen to start cooking and soon enough he started smelling wonderful things. He peeked his head into the kitchen for a moment to see how things were coming along. "Smells wonderful in here, m'lady." He said kindly.

"I'm glad you think so. It's just perfectly done right now." She started to take the food off the stove and put it on the table. Her hands were shaking. She had never actually cooked a meal for anyone except her family, and she hoped Gideon thought she was a good cook. Otherwise, it could doom their relationship.
"I hope you think it's well done, Lord Gideon. You're the first person I've ever cooked a meal for." She sat down at the table across from him and waited for him to take a bite.

Gideon sat down at the table with Bronwen. The food really did look delicious and smelled wonderful. He helped himself to the food that she placed onto the table. The plate was full by the time he was finished and ready to start biting in. He cut a piece of the meat and placed it in his mouth. It was so tender and juicy and the taste was succulent. "Mmmmm....This is the best food I've eaten in quite some time."

Anonymous

Bronwen couldn't help blushing. "I'm glad you like it. I've only ever cooked meals for my family. I don't even remember cooking something for Cadfan, when he was still alive. I must be changing," she said, smiling.

And she was. Even her very face showed that she was changing. Her eyes were brighter, and her smile was more sincere, just because being with Gideon made her so happy, for some reason she couldn't quite explain. Why was she so happy? Maybe her father had been right to send her to the ball. It was time for her to move on from her grief.

"Well then, I feel very privaledged indeed. You should cook more often Bronwen. This really is very scrumptious." Gideon said, praising her around mouth fulls of food. For the next few minutes Gideon ate in silence he was enjoying it so much. "So Bronwen. Tell me a little more about yourself. Ah...things that you want to talk about of course." He asked her. Gideon didn't want to pry into things that she didn't wish to speak of, but he would like to hear a bit more about her and her family.

Anonymous

"Well, my mother died when I was born. My father is still alive. I have an older brother called Elian. And I... umm... used to be able to see the future. I inherited that from my mother. But after Cadfan died, my abilities stopped working. I hope you don't find this to be... something you hate, but I thought you should know," she said. It would be rather difficult if they began dating and then her magic started working again. She blushed terribly and couldn't look at him. Maybe it wasn't the best topic of conversation, but he had said to tell her more about herself.

Anonymous

"Really? That's quite amazing. I always wanted some kind of awesome power or mental ability when I was young, but unfortunately no one in my family is very interesting in that way. I'm sorry you lost it, though maybe it was for the best. I can't say I would love to always know what was going to happen. Especially if I didn't have the power to change the things I didn't like." Gideon said, his eyes wide with wonder. "I'm sorry about you mother. I think I briefly remember hearing about her passing. I was away a lot when I was younger, training in other countries and such stuff as that."

Anonymous

"I do have the power to change it," she said. "If I get there on time, I can change it. But when Cadfan died... I didn't get there on time, and I lost it. But you are lucky not to have been born with such a power. It's no use knowing what's going to happen if you are not quick enough to fix it. If I'd been there on time, he might still be alive. There's no use beating myself up over it, but it's the truth... a truth I'm reminded of with every breath I take. I'm no longer so upset over losing him; still I have to wonder...what now? What is my purpose now? There are days when this question nearly drives me mad."

Anonymous

Gideon couldn't help but giggle at her. "I mean no insult, m'lady. It's just that you are not too different from everyone else. People are age have the grave misfortune of not being totally sure of anything about our lives. Even I wonder some days what exactly is my purpose on this earth. But before I let it get to me I stand back and I tell myself that not knowing is half the excitement. I mean, only the gods truly know what's in store for all of us. If you believe in gods that is. So do not worry yourself to tears, dearest Bronwen. Just believe that you do have a purpose whether or not it has decided to show itself to you." Gideon might have look like a brute, but honestly the young nobleman was pretty wise when it came down to it.

(sorry I've been gone so long. life has a wonderful way of interfering with things. >.<)

Bronwen smiled when he finished speaking. "You are right, my lord. I should not worry quite so much as I am. My purpose will reveal itself to me in time. I should just content myself with... with having met you." Suddenly, she was beginning to stutter, and she wasn't sure what she was saying was making sense anymore. "Maybe...maybe... it was fate that we met."

Anonymous

"Fate is a finicky mistress I always say. Perhaps she did wish the two of us to meet. I'm at least glad I could do you some good service. It's always a good feeling when you do something that's right." He replied with a huge grin. He was really enjoying his time with Bronwen, though he was smart enough not to jump to conclusion. Only fate herself knew if he would see her again.

Anonymous

Bronwen would have liked to see him again as well, but she wasn't sure how to go about hinting at it. Since it was usually up to the men to initiate dates, it seemed to matter very little what she did anyway. Still, there was a peace she felt in being with Gideon that could not be denied. Deep within herself, Bronwen knew that she was happy again, if only for a little while. She wanted to hold onto that feeling for as long as possible...even forever, should fate wish it.
