With the announcement that Ahjfeld was captured, and to hear of the distress of the other duchies and the sudden rise to power of Duchess Melora- first woman to rule a duchy in Connlaoth without her husband alive, was just what Lady Davina needed in order to set her own plans into motion. She herself was not a humble woman by any means. In fact, her ambitions were a bit too over the top to seem realistic.

But that's the way she liked it. She loved to have a goal in mind to be impossible; and she had a lot to shake off after her scandal blew up in her face. She had fallen out of favor with so many houses in Hellvion she was surprised the rest of her family hadn't fallen into disgrace along with her. But she pridefully stepped out of the Duchy.

After all, her eyes were set on Ahjfeld.

She knew full well how pathetic the last Duke was. So it was no surprise that if any duchy's were to fall to the mages, it'd be that one. But a nice twist in the plan was that it was the Duchy of Turgall of all places that rose up as the conquerers-
and that apparently...
Duke Harmond was a mage lover- and possible mage himself. Many had made claims to seeing his awesome power, and some claimed he used it to seduce the daughter of the Duke of Orchy- and the one who was a white lily!

Such scandal made Davina jealous. Though she loved a good story, she wanted to be at the forefront of the scandal. So with her father's horse, she rode off with what she could, knowing full well her ideas could lead to her own demise.

But at least if she was going to go down, people would remember her as the woman every man desired. She would not be one upped by that older duchess wanna be queen.

Hotels were getting more and more expensive it seemed with this war in full swing.  Maxxen did his best to stay out of the thick of it and any possible conversation that had anything to do with the war.  Frankly, Maxx didn't care for such foolish and careless fighting.  His days as a knight had knocked that out of him.  He just wanted to have a good time.  Why didn't everyone else think the same way?

Foolish mages thinking they could forge some kind of upstart revolution.  And even moreso to the moronic Grand Duke that could do nothing good for anyone but himself.  But that was politics for you.  They never really did make any sense to him.

At least now he could enjoy a hot meal after staying on the road for several weeks.  He was tired of hard beds in half-assed inns, and poor food in rundown taverns.  Sure upkeep was a bitch, but did it hurt to hold on to a little salt and pepper?

The Ranspiel Hotel, at least, had decent entertainment.  And the food wasn't bad either.

Though she came of money, she only had so much on her person. Thankfully, Ahjfeld wasn't inconceivably far. So when the Ranspiel Hotel came into view, she found herself smirking that it was still erect and in tact- probably because it resided on the boarder less affected by the decimation caused by the army of Turgall.

Either way, she was quick to take her horse to stable, and with a fluff to her riding hood, moved to step inside. She was greeted by a squat old man who- considering the years that had passed, looked exactly as she remembered him from before-
and it seemed he recalled Davina as well.

"Ah, Lady Callister! It has been some time!"

Yep, he recalled name and everything. Though somewhat of an ego boost, it was not one she needed.
"Just a room," she replied swiftly. "And a hot bath drawn, if you please." He nodded, bowing before her and as he moved to grabbed the skeleton key to her room, he paused when she added, "And after that, I'd like no interruptions."
Lowering her riding hood, she gave a fluff to her dark hair.
"The ride was hard," she assured him, forcing a smile.

Maxxen Lear had thought he'd heard the name carry just as he was putting the key into the lock of his own room.  He paused, feeling his heart stop but for a moment, as he turned to watch a familiar form coming up the stairs.  He saw the old man, then...

He went into his door quickly holding it just so that he might spy on Davina Callister as she appeared.

"Would you like me to escort you?" the man asked, jovial and seeming almost a bit too eager. Davina simply sighed.

"No, thank you." She gave him another curt smile before taking a hand ful of her skirts, and the key, and moving towards the stairs. She knew she shouldn't have to remind the man of her request for no interruptions, and began to ascend the stairs.

Once at the top, she loosened the collar of her traveling cloak around her neck, and noticed frm the corner of her eye (and from the reflection in the mirror) a door nearby that was partially cracked. She knew enough that someone was looking at her- it was a feeling, and one she admired. But she paid no attention to it, and simply turned away- her heels clicking as she disappeared down the hall.

Shuffling the key intot he lock, she wasted no time disappearing into her room- which just so happened to be across the hall from her mysterious watcher.

If she cared or knew her little spy was creeping outside her door,s he made no fuss of it. The ride had been long, and while sex was always something she'd welcome, she had no eyes for any man she had seen in this hotel. Perhaps she'd just have to masterbate...
Which made her smirk a little as she unclasped her riding cloak and let it drop on the back of her vanity's chair.

She paused a moment to look at herself in the mirror. From afar, any inclination she was getting older could not be seen- but lately..
She feared she was getting a few wrinkles under her eyes, and paused a moment to lean in closer to the mirror to make sure they hadn't gotten... worse.

Maxxen Lear moved back to his room, and moved his things around before changing his jacket and pulling off his tie.  He pulled the flowers from the vase on the table in his room.  He stepped out and moved back toward her door.  He gently knocked on the door.

And he pushed a stray hair back.  Couldn't look too shabby.

The moment there was a knock at the door, Davina Callister felt as foul as a beast. She glowered towards the door and paused in mid-brush. Did she not tell the man no interruptions? Not feeling like yelling, she stood up and made her way to the door-
Though she had a good tongue lashing ready on her lips, when she threw the door open and saw who it was, her eyes went wide- and for a moment, her mind betrayed her and failed to act.

Taking a step back, her memory returned. Those eyes, that face, the way he stood...

She cut a look to the flowers, then back to him.
"Flowers from your room? You shouldn't have... really," she went on, and her tone made it hard to tell if she was charmed- or irritated. "I have my own set of flowers occupying my own vase by the bedside table. If I accept yours...." she went on with a sigh. "They'll just get withered and dried out."
