Kyna's feet fair ached from walking so long. Her arm ached too. It had hurt since the dragon had whacked her off the mountain. Even so, she still walked and hummed to herself to keep her mood high and the tiny dragon on Kyna's shoulder, Fion, tried to whistle with her but mostly just blew smoke.

From the way the trees thinned, Kyna was nearing the edge of the forest. Perhaps the road she walked on would lead her to a great city with white walls and exotic things from far off lands. Maybe there'd be lands with names never whispered in her home. Maybe there'd be warriors clad all in iron . . . food!

Kyna flung herself off the road and trotted over to a stand of trees standing separate from the other trees. The bark on the trees looked like crisscrossing lines making diamond shapes but most important were the spiky looking yellow balls on the ground. Kyna dropped to her knees, Fion rocking to the movement. The nearest yellow ball was split down one side. Kyna dug her nails into it and tore it open, finding the nut inside. She ate it then held up the yellowish ball for Fion to see.

"It's the same colour as you," Fion blew smoke and swished her tail, seemingly unimpressed with the comparison. Kyna chuckled and resumed grubbing around in the fallen leaves for chestnuts.
