Just a curious question! <3
How/where did you find us? Inquiring minds must know! And what prompted you to join? :3
Draco.
I found out about it through RPG directory. Got bored one day and decided to look that place up again, and this place caught my interest.
A volatile combination of curiosity and boredom.
I started RPing on PPT and lived for that for a while.
So when no one came to the RP boards, I went to hunt for somewhere else. After a couple trials and errors I came across SotE (I think it was the RPG directory). I thought about it a whole day then signed up the next day.
I just wanted to RP. And be somewhere where I'm allowed to be the noob I am:)
Well this was my first ever RP site, never tried it before. I think i was looking at the cool artwork on elfwood.com and someone had said that thier art was based on thier character from Sote so i decided to take a look. I liked what i saw so i joined.
Two years ago, someone messaged me on ff.net, asking if I was interested in RP'ing. I'd never even heard of RP'ing before, so I signed up to their site. Soon got the hang of it, but quickly got bored so joined up to a few more sites, and then found this one through Mona/Keeci!
:D
I was bumming around some invisionfree site, and got bored, so I started clicking links to other sites, and then clicking links from there, and so on, and then I ended up here. Hooray.
A LJ RPing advertisement community.
Searched in the RPG directory, Found the link in the first pages. ^_^
I blame Luxon whole-heartedly: he lured me to Spirits, and I think it was JunoZXV who pointed out Remnants.
Either way, started at RotE, migrated to include SotE.
I was just browsing the web looking for a decent role-playing forum in which to role-play and I came across SotE. I was a member for a short while--took a break because of my career--and came back to find it still up and running. One of the longest running role-playing forums I know of, but my knowledge of role-playing forums is null. ;P
RPG-Directory. ;)
RPG-D through Rhi.
RPG-D :D
After phailing to think up any stories at Island of Elements, I browsed through their affiliates and found the link to SotE. ^.^ After posting a little, I poofed for a really long time (roughly) and when I came back, all sorts of stuff had changed. *.*
...Good god that was a long time ago. O.O
Oh you know, the usual story:
I was wandering around and when I passed this pet shop, there was this really cute puppy with the letters SotE on it's collar and I just HAD TO HAVE IT!
umm...
That was stupid.
I found this place upon just good ol' wanderin'.
I found it on RPG-D.
I found an advertisement somewhere from a page i googled up while searching for a place to rp.
found it by looking at the affiliates of www.dimensionalwar.com (http://www.dimensionalwar.com) & one of them happened to be RPG-Directory & i found it there. I never actually meant to join, which is the funny thing.
Like most people, I found sote via RPG Directory...
I found it a couple different ways. This time it was RPG Directory. I lurk there like crazy.
RPG Directory (Can't remember why I'd wandered over there - I wasn't looking for RP's....). Saw a link to SotE on someone's sig, followed it and umm.... hai all.
Found it first via google or something akin to that, and then that jerkface EatAChinchilla linked me here again not long after he joined.
Know him from an LJ comm, and a couple RPs we've been in together.
8D
As for me, I know Rhi-Rhi from an LJ comm, and her profile has a handy link to this place. So I decided to try it out!
Lost Marbles roped me.
I found a link to here on RPGD a while ago.
*shamelessly points to Lost Marbles*
Vega.
Google.
Honestly, I first found this place through bad_rpers, a LJ comm.
Then later, I found it again through google, and decided to join.
Found this site, like alot of you on RPG-dir
I was looking for a place to settle down on, and bang, boom, clicky here, and voila!
I was informed by my friend Larian that I need to check this site out. I did and here I am!
Me? I think it was the RPG directory... a looong loooooong time ago...!
Well I had a funny(read: strange) dream that the imps from the ZP series (//http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation) were going to rise up from the internet comic strip mines and overthrow humanity in an obscene and diabolical plot to perform their plan for 'moozical' genocide(forcing all cattle to listen to horrible pop/rap songs of this generation and causing them to spontaneously combust).
But it turns out that was actually just a dream and when I did log onto my computer I found that the RP site I usually frequented had gone belly up faster than a goldfish exiled to Davy Jone's salty boot at a Richard Simmons fitness-video filming, yo ho. So I went through nifty RPG-Directory and found this appetizing site.
I suppose I could'a just said "RPG-D" but wot fun is that, ay?
Yeah, Lost Marbles pretty much slung me over his shoulder and carried me here.
Well, I started out here about...2006 I believe. It feels like it's been...many, many years ago. Stayed for awhile got distracted, joined again, got distracted...and then I got obsessed with RotE and then came back here this time.
I believe I originally found it through searching random LJ roleplaying communities after I had been into rping on there and messengers for a little while.
I was googling something about anime... And then I found a board where people were discussing (read:bashing) plot pages, and there was a post about this site. I believe it was along the lines of:
Really? We've never had that problem on my site. Plot pages tend to be three posts: One asking to plot, another saying okay, and the third say to do the rest in PMs. ^.^ [[Link to this site]]
So, I came along and checked it out. :D
Wow...I didn't reply to this O_o weird.
Anyways...it's probably better that I didn't before because I honestly can't remember that well!! It was back in good old 2002, I was looking for a new rpg because my friend's was a "wolf based" where everyone was required to use ridiculous words that even graduate students find difficult to understand because it was an "advanced RPG" (can you tell I'm not a fan? English major here! NORMAL PEOPLE DON'T WRITE LIKE THAT! Unless you're trying to sound pompous in a scholarly article!)
Anyways, I digress.
I found SotE in the advertisement on her site...I think....and clicked! I didn't join at first because it was unlike most RPGs that I'd used. (To be frank, I hated the layout of Ezboard and didn't want to write at first because of that >_> I always liked boards2go better xD oh old school!!!)
Eventually, I joined a character...it was Rayne...she just sat there in the joining forum until the beginning of 2003 when I finally posted her first post and began the AMAZING thread "Here We Are" with Rhi!
*deep breath*
And that's what happened.
oooo. my turn!
I was 12 or something and I had been into RPing for two whole years (wow) It was at the time when the 'so-and-so would like to add you as a contact' on MSN looked like scary pop-up stuff so I always declined. I have no idea how I got to the site I did. It was some odd site about two castes and one was all rainbow-ie hair and the others were fair and prettyful.
Anyway, I found SotE and the 'we'd like to welcome: name, name, name, name.' to the site thing was what made me join. When you had to fill out a sheet thing and submit your character and Rhi did strange strange things with it before welcoming you on the main page.
It seemed lax, too, since at that point I only visited my dad once every two weeks for a weekend and he was the parent with the internet.
It was big and scary, I recall playing with someone named Bloodwolf (not here anymore, which is good ) i recall going " 8D Homg, I need to make so-and-so a girlfriend " to a few of Tally's characters, probably a few of Rhi's too. Then I poofed for a long while.
THen I found a picture I drew and went " HOMG D8 I FORGOT ABOUT SoTE" and I found it again 8D Amazingly, the exact same why I found it the first time, going through a maze of game advertisements.
I think I found this place on LJ through Bad Role Players Suck. I can't honestly remember but I'm pretty sure that's where it was. I had made a post, Rhi had made a comment about something, and then I was all "Your place sounds awesome! I can has link?" And so it turns out I could have link.
Then yeah...the rest is history. Strange...strange history.
through the comment section of a drawing on yaoigallery LOL
LOL!!!!!
I think you should get points for having the most original "How you found SotE" answer!
We have points?!
When were there points?!
=O Hehe xD
Quote from: "Raichi"through the comment section of a drawing on yaoigallery LOL
That was probably me or shinigami. x3
I found SotE through an RPG ad community on LiveJournal.
Through the grapevine of RPer's I know XD I was on one site but after all our older members left it was taken over by illiterate jerks. Who wouldn't try to be literate even if asked nicely, so I've been scourging the universe for a new RP home . . . Or, in a way at least . . Bawhahaha! I'm just glad to find something to spend all my 'study' time on. . .
RPG directory
RPG-D through Rhi Rhi's siggy
I found this awesome site through an ad on Paradise Pier RPG! The title convinced me to look at it, and the rest is history. ;]
Rpg-Directory was where I found your ad.
That was back in what? 2001, I think? So at that time I was still a member of wolfhome (The wolf based chat/RPG site. Anyone?) which means there's a good chance someone there told me about it or I found out through another site I RPed on and decided to join. Then I disappeared for a while and I think one day I saw Rhi's s/n on AIM and I decided to see if the site was still around and it was so I decided to join again. Shortly after that school and work got the best of me and I dropped off the grid again. This time around I was just bored and thinking about how much I missed just writing for the sake of writing which lead to me thinking about SotE and wanting to see if it was still alive again and much to my delight it was so I decided to join again. I plan on sticking around for a while this time.
i found it through my fiance who pointed me to the rpg directory
Found it off Daeluin
RPG Directory.
Why did I join? Active. Medieval Fantasy. Site wasn't ugly. Done deal.
RPG Directory. I love role-playing.
RPG Directory as well.
I found this site at RPG-Directory and I joined because I like fantasy RPGs.
I found this site at RPG-Directory, one of your affiliates. The advertisement prompted me to join because I love writing and fantasy and this seemed like a good place to combine the two.
y!gal -snorts-
I found this place on LJ, through Bad Role-Players suck. I'm glad that the person mentioned in that post is now gone :)
I found SotE at RPG-D, and what prompted me to join was the genre, the level of activity, and the quality of the site overall.
Google. It took me to a unused medieval site, which in turn took me to another unused site, which had a link for here.
I saw this in the description of a deviation of DeviantArt.
Google, methinks.
On deviantart groups
Whee! Almost third person in a row who found it on deviant art haha
RPG-D! I stalk that place all the time.....
Also RPG-D! Via Rhi-Rhi's sig link, which I checked out because it looked awesome xD
RPGD.
I, ahem, normally agree with Rhi-Rhi....
xDD *fistbump*
I found your banner on Espira and then came here.
rpg directory, coz' its awesomesauce
From RPG-D, went to Visionary Tales, and found SotE linked in what I guess is their affiliate sidebar. =)
EDIT: Oh, my reasons for joining explained in my intro thread (//http://spiritsoftheearth.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=12786).
My friend Atrice used to RP on here and Visionary Tales. She recommended it.
Four years ago from a picture Tally drew on deviantart for here. I followed the link in the description and fell in love with SotE. I used to read here a lot before gaining enough courage to actually join about a month ago.
Only regret is that I didn't start sooner. ^.^
Hm, I never posted here. Thought I had!
Found it from one of my friends recommending it!
I'd been out of the game for probably... the better part of six years. Study, work, and being a newly wed kinda filled my brains with other stuff! But, with a decided readiness to have some real me time after so long, I went RP board hunting. In a round about way, after finding numerous dead boards, and some incredibly complicated ones I couldn't get my head around, I followed a link in a c-box on a dead invisionfree board, and found myself here. XD
I never found this thread O.o My cousin got me into this mess, and I haven't climbed out of it since :P
Well I was looking for a new RP site because, well the one I joined as my first RP site was less girl next door more girl with the dragon tattoo (If you look up supreme dictatorship on dictionary.com you get a link to their site <.< >.>) so I found myself looking for greener pastures. I was looking through the advertised sites and came to a different RP, long story short, I found myself looking through their advertised sites where I found SotE and a wave of happiness washed over me ^_______^
My friends and I were looking for a new RP community, so I found SotE.
Through an affiliation link on another site that I am currently a member of.
Google search
I found a post on the Furaffinity forums. Roleplaying is "against the rules" there so I followed a few links.
You have no idea how many yiffy boards I had to wade through... Not to mention sign up for.
Tumblr!
... wait how did you find it through tumblr? I'm curious XD
One of the posts from here (//http://spiritsoftheearth.tumblr.com/) showed up when I was browsing tags.
oooh sote hasa tumblr? nice XD
During an intense search for a fantasy rpg
Similar to many, I was looking for a fantastic fantasy RP that wouldn't die out on me. I found the ad on RPG Directory, woot. I'm so glad I did, too. This place rocks.
Google.
I typed in "Fantasy roleplay site"
Google is indeed my friend.
My friend old me about this and i decided to give a try!
-proud to be that friend- welcome to SotE mate

This is where you learn the true worth of a search engine, I hail from the land of Google myself
I first heard of SotE from my good friend who goes by the name of Zane ;D
Google on like page 5 of an overly narrow search for free form text based forum rpg
Googled 'RP sites' and this was on the first page. I miss Forum-based RPing ;~;
I'm only here because...
Well, blame Paradox (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?action=profile;u=13007)
:P
Well, I just looked up "fantasy RPG forums" and this was the first, so I was like, well alright, then. ;D
.
my good, real life friend Rhiannon told me about it. :P I know I said a million times I'd check it out. Well I finally did, and since I'm a big RPer and really into fantasy it is for sure interesting. Plus I want to be a novelist, what better way to get the creativity flowing. Luv ya Rhi! <3
I found this place the other day after thinking how much fun I used to have in RP message boards. So I tried really hard to remember the name of the one I would play in over ten years ago, and googled it, Obliviantus, and I came across a post someone made here that made a reference to it. Looked it over, saw what I liked, and signed up!

Are you suggesting that you were invalid since D00m? Cause it's always been a D00m custom to blame you for everything! I blame you too! Who cares if it makes sense?!

This seems perfectly reasonable.
D;
NuuuUuUuuUuuu
I was brought here by magic!
I am a member of Iwakuroleplay.com and I wanted to focus on a fantasy setting only without being distracted :) I have some fantasy/adventure characters that I wanted to fit into an epic world setting and this place seemed perfect!!
I was brought here by Nascent! I have no idea how he found this place though XD
@Dark Lordess: That's a load of rubbish! You were brought here cause I'm here and you love me!
And I found this place on RPG Directory actually...
I found this through RPG-Directory. I noticed that most sites die quickly, and wanted one with active members, literate staff, and a great plot- a site that would be up for more than a year! I'm so happy to have found SotE!
It's amazing!
Oooo I've never seen this board.
Honestly, I don't even remember how I found this site. It was too long ago. D: At first I thought I just magically happened upon it, but now, thinking back on it, I think I was searching for a website like this.
I did a little bit of rp writing beforehand, but never got too into it. But then I wanted to try it again so I started searching. But I didn't know what it was called. Eventually I found this site, I guess. If I remember correctly, I found other ones too. But the other ones looked sketchy and confusing unlike this one.
Plus, I liked the art on the top.
So I stayed! ;D
I googled 'Freeform Fantasy RP', since I've been looking to get into a less-structured environment than D&D/Pathfinder/etc. and out of the twelve or so I looked through, this one struck my fancy on account of the time it's been around, ease-of-access for new players, general stability and of course the excellent depth of lore.
I just got bored and started Google searching. I've been playing a whole bunch of tabletop roleplaying games like the poster before me and wanted to get away from all the heavy rule structures for a little while. This looked like a good choice, so I stopped here.
I was referred by Nemoooooooooooooooo.
There's actually only one 'o' in the name. ;O
I was looking for a roleplay site and I found this one through a google search. The lack of an application process and absence of strict rules appealed to me, so here I am!
I found this place while browsing for a new site to RP on after the one I was on got hacked. Why are people so cruel?
my laptop could no longer take LotRO without crashing, and I decided to search for a medieval fantasy RP site... and casually stumbled upon SotE in holiday boredom.
I was browsing tvtropes and somehow found a link to this guy's page explaining how to resolve trouble with magic differences when playing free-form online RPGs. That of course lead me to look up what a free-form online RPG is. Upon finding out, I immediately googled that topic and picked the most inviting looking link. And here I am.
I was googling for a freeform rp forum and i found this site.
I saw the banner in Rhi-Rhi's signature on RPG-D. ^^ I joined because I liked the no character limit and account per player 'cause it reminds me of the first forum I RP'd on, and the community/world seemed really cool.
I had always been a huge fan of any roleplaying, and fantasy themes as well, and I just googled "Fantasy rp boards", and after going through a bunch that didn't sound fun, I found this one, and realized how awesome it is, after wondering if I should join or not, I saw how nice people were, and realized immediately I would be welcome :3 and here I am~
I saw a couple people with the site banner in their signature on RPG-D, so I decided to give it a look.
Google.
Google solves all problems.
I was on reddit and came across /r/askreddit and a question was "best and worst of 4chan?" And a user submitted this CRAZY story on how he got on here and created this crappy character and despite all odds he beat some mod and was then kicked off this site.
It sounded legit so I looked it up and here I am.
(Idk what I'm doing help lol)
GOOGLE...
SG
RPG-Directory advertisement. The site looked pretty nifty so here I be.
wow! I was just looking for an rpg fantasy and i found sote! I am so excited to be on it and cant wait to play!!!
I was actually looking for a play-by-post freeform RP site in the past few days since the Roleplayer Guild site was down. I hit up Google and visited Spirits of the Earth, and was glad to see that the lorebooks weren't too thick and overbearing, and the world not too strange and alien, unlike another site which I had tried to get into.
What site was that might I ask? Curious minds wanna know... You can also PM me too if you don't want to say on here.
I found this one while searching through RPG directory. I wanted a place where I could bring one particular character to life. Sadly finding a site where I could build a Lamia is very difficult. Needless to say I was lucky to find this one :)
Aaawwww yiss, I love lamia.
They're among my most favorite monster girls.
I just heard of roleplays a lot and thought it might be something fun to do as a writer. So I googled it, I looked for something fantasy/adventure and here I am.
Introduced by a friend, looked really interesting, simply couldn't resist.
RPG-Directory advertisement.
Google search! I must have spent hours looking for a RP site! Then I found this one! I signed up as soon as I read the rules and only one or two forums! Glad I did!
(Sorry! Too many exclamation points! Yay! ;D)
entered tex search key words something to the letter of: forum rpg
I've been playing for years in this one rpg Lyrath, but it has been super quiet there for the whole spring. I wanted to play so badly, and didn't find any good Finnish rp sites (they were all quiet! Where are you fellow Finns?!), so I simply googled "English forum rpg". Aaaand SotE was the first one. I didn't even have to open the other ones.
Search on Google. And I'm very glad I did!
I literally just googled 'Fantasy Role plays' and this was the third one to come up. It sounded interesting so I decided to investigate.
I googled freeform rp. Simple.
I googled "Fantasy RP". This looked good!
I found this awesome site by Sir Google.
I can't wait to have tons of adventures!
I found this site after several google searches for a Rp site that seemed appealing to me, and this one was the first one that looked good after about a hour of searching, though i still need to make my first character.
I found this site through an roleplay directory. Not very original, I'm afraid.
Google
I just typed in 'rpg forum' into google- and, poof!
I was looking for a place to have myself a good time! 8)
Friend was talking about it, thought I might as well join :v
Just found this place last night through the ise of my mad Google-fu skills. So far it's pretty neat and I might have someone to start my first rp with soon.
Roleplay directory. I just googled roleplaying message boards without being too specific.
google ^^ fantasy roleplay forum -> second hit
Just came across this online looking for ways to learn how to right better and get more into character :) excited to get into some rping.
I think I found it through an RP directory. "I think" because twas months ago. Lol.
Google!!! Tried other things but this site has been by far the most immersive and fun.
I googled freeform RP and your site was the first in the list
I was bored of Dark Souls, and still don't have enough people for a game of D&D, so I tried Googling something and this came up.
Did a search for fantasy freeform roleplaying, and Spirits of the Earth was one of the first results.
I found it on another Play-by-post forum. There was this guy who had this site in his signature, thought it'd be nice to check it out :3
Google search for "Freeform RP".
Well i always loved roleplaying i started roleplaying last summer and i just decided to look for new roleplays due to the ones i was in dying out due to real live problems with all of my friends and i told em to look for me on this website :)
So i just looked up "Roleplays" and found this nice place i am so happy this place exists because the community is so nice i hope this place lives a long and happy life!
I found this place while looking for a cool fantasy role playing site, and this was the coolest and most active one I found :)
The great SilverDragonsBlood introduced me to this site and RPing in writing.
Gotta say I'm proud to say that this is my first site.
Google.
Google, was searching for a fun fantasy based forum to write in and this was in the top 5 results.
I basically googled for any good RP forums, and this one caught my interest. I liked how open-ended everything is, so I decided to join.
I found it while looking for a fantasy rpg forum through Google. It was listed among the first results of my search.
Google searching, was looking for a fantasy based roleplay. Usually I stick to scifi, but want to explore something new. I have a lot of AD&D experience, have read countless Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms novels as well as a lot of JRR Tolkien.
Dwarves are my favorite race, always have been. Hard drinking, hard fighting, tough but lovable!
Ave. It's all Ave's fault. In the best way possible of course! lol <3
o man... t'was a weird way!
i, having roleplayed on animal forums for two years, and having grown tired of writing 'paws' instead of 'hands', decided to look for human-ish places. a couple months of writing of discord, and i realized another important component of my needs was the structure of a forum!
hence i googled "oldest forum roleplays" and stumbled upon... this site (https://forumroleplay.com/rpg-list-category/fantasy-historical-medieval-rpgs/)... which frankly looks like its beaming 87 malwares into my computer just by looking at it.
i was pretty dispirited while scrolling down, but felt a pang of interest when i saw a site that appeared to be over twenty years old! i clicked, and, full honesty, expected a dead forum...
but the moment i saw it was surprisingly modern ( hell~o discord~! ) and that each subforum was still getting posts---
well, i just had to get in :P
Hah! I found it on that site too! I was looking for a forum where long posts weren't required and without face claims. After wading through a sea of hideous JCinks, I was happy to find this place.
I followed a friend here then life happened. I went mia for years but came back and found SotE was still alive and kicking
Googled something along the lines of 'Fantasy forum roleplay' and it came up!
