Opinions were invalid in the world of Dram.  Perhaps there was so much pretention and arrogance in the dark-skinned, red haired bastard that everything else was obviously inferior to what he felt and thought.  Or perhaps he'd learned simply not to care what another had to say about him to his face or behind his back.  He'd quickly learned that words were as thick as a playing card, stacked to appear as a house of bricks, structured to give meaning more than they should have, but ultimately would fall unfailingly with lack of stability.  If someone thought him a fool, they should prove him the fool.  Talk was cheap, and life was short; too short to be wasted on imbeciles.

So he said nothing to the tentacles, though he didn't really feel it was all that necessary to be touched.  He was about to ask about it and turned to her only to see her pull out an unusual book the likes of which could only possibly be purchased from a high end proprietor.  Maybe she had money she was hiding from him.  Dram didn't like the idea of robbing her.  He was curious and just stood over her shoulder as she wrote, being a few inches taller than her, it was an easy task to manage.

He could not read the words she scribbled and did not bother to try.  They did not look all that familiar and although he couldn't read half as well as he could fight, there was one that resembled something that might have been his own name.  He couldn't be sure.  Dram furrowed his brows and watched the grand flourishes she made with the pen, knowing his own writing was little more than chicken scratch.  "What are you doing?" he asked, still staring at the writing.

A shiver rand up her spine and her tail curled when he asked that, being so close as to look over her shoulder Her back arched and her skin tingled, tendrils wiggling, surprised as she lifted her head and turned her round face to gaze up at him She stared at him a moment, distracted in thought before realizing what he meant. Her cheeks flushed lightly once more and she stumbled over her words helplessly. Soft hand closed the book gently and she wondered what to say in her shy moment, ears tipped back again. "wull...i...et...W-w-writeng, ovcurse..." she mumbled stupidly. Wonderful, he got her all tongue-tied and found herself quiet once more as her eyes avoided him, leaning into him as the ground shifted with them going deeper into the gully.

"I hev...problems...remembureng..." she mumbled softly, showing signs of shame as she confessed this. "En no...im not stupid...et es degrading tu admit..." she went on vaguely, not comfortable explaining what she knew of her memory lapses. Her book was a magical one, and helped her retain important information that might slip her mind. "yu are not de only one weth problems, yu kno..." she grumbled weakly as she looked down at her book, leaning against him a little more as she thought about it.

Dram's hand idly reached forward and touched a page of the book, poking it like the hide of some foreign animal.  It did look very foreign to him.  He didn't spend too much time around books, let along magical ones.  This was getting to be very interesting and he slightly wondered exactly what the book was written in. Not moving his head, he flicked his eyes at her, unwavering and a little static in their scrutiny of her peculiar face.

With her slightly distracted, he unwrapped one of tentacles on him and hoped it would leave him alone.  When she finished her display of shame, tried to distance himself a little and offered a sympathetic hand on her shoulder, one that pat it lightly and a little awkwardly.  But, at least, it was an effort and was removed as quickly as it came.  "Obviously," he said slowly.  "Was that my name you wrote down?  Why would that be of any importance?"

Dram kept his gaze forward to as the gully gradually flattened out and widened.  Here the trees seemed to spread out further amongst themselves and a thought slipped into his mind.  This wasn't looking very familiar at all.  Were they even going the right way?

When he touched the book, it would shimmer for a second, sending a faint tingle up his finger and her eyes watched it come and go, knowing what the flicker meant. It was a special journal, made just for her. She sighed and her tendril let itself be unwrapped from his arm, the other still gently holding his hand. Maybe it was rude of her in a way as well. Using her tendril was slightly impersonal of her. As one could tell, using her arms was reserved for certain things. Possibly using a hand instead of her serpent to hold his, it may have yielded better results. But she was too withdrawn with her arms to attempt such. She hardly used them, if only for casting much more powerful magic that required her effort.

The touching of her shoulder spawned a much more cozy reaction and she looked back up at him warmly. Well that was nice of him at least, she thought. She couldn't help but giggle softly at that, intentionally nudging into him now. "Does et mattur det mush tu yu?" she asked softly, not seeing why he really needed to know. "Es jus tu be safe...one nevur knos..." she explained anyway, wondering if she should just satisfy him. "Et helps me. I lose bits and pieces at times...en et ken be hard tu mek sense ov." She went on.

What dawned on him, she hadn't noticed yet. After all, he was the one who was supposed to be leading them out of here. "so...how mush longer tu town...?" she asked idly.

Lion

Dram looked around him, at the spaces between the trees.  There was a faint familiarity here, and he almost could have sworn somebody had called out his name.  He abruptly turned around and faced the direction where he thought he heard it, then whirled all around.  He almost forgot about the one that was following him.   He knew he heard something!  But it was nothing that repeated itself beyond the sounds of animals off in the distance.  The familiarity grew and the trees seemed almost to be staring right through him.  Suddenly he didn't feel comfortable standing around in this area anymore.

She said something and he almost looked at her with confused eyes.  "What?"  The town, right!  Which way was it again.  He really didn't pass through this way.  He found no sign that he'd did so.  But there was no reason to let her know that.  If one was lost, they'd better try finding their way soon or all hope would be lost.  "Follow," was all he said before he went off again toward the east, away from the gully.

There the underbrush grew thick and covered the ground in a robust green blanket.  This wasn't familiar either.  Dram stepped through it slowly, as if he were looking for something.  As he passed over it, suddenly the ground was far too soft and it gave way underneath him.  In a panic he snatched hold of the tendril that was on his hand and dragged her along with him, refusing to let go and yelling all the way down.  The pit turned into a tunnel and he slid down through it as it swirled out in an angle then straight down then took another turn in the opposite direction before finally dropping them on the ground in the darkness of what appeared to be a cave.  Though he didn't know where he was, he stood warily and peered through the darkness with eyes that adapted easily.  "It seems the road to town will be longer than I expected," he remarked bitterly.  Nothing could go right today could it?

He started acting strange and she quirked a brow, looking at him curiously. "Whotr-" before she could finish, he told her to follow and she was dragged off. "W-wha??" she spat confusedly, stumbling behind him and clutching her special book. "w-whot es thes nonsense??" she argued as he took her in tow. Why was he acting so paranoid suddenly? She wondered before her train of thought was deraled by the sight of him vanishing. She blinked, baffled for a moment, and was suddenly yanked downward. The hole appeared as she was sucked into it, her tendril stretched tight in his grasp. She let out a gasp and squeaked at the sudden drop, but unlike Dram, she watched wide-eyed in silence.

What was this freaky slide?? Back and forth, bumping and grinding, they fell to the bottom after the excruciating trip, and she whined in displeasure, book clutched tight into her large bosom as her tendrils shakily helped her up. She coughed, having the wind knocked from her, and looked around the darkness dazedly, her iridescent eyes taking on a brighter glow in the shadows. Darkness didn't bother her in the least. She had experience with it in extreme depths of water. "Whot wuz thet??!" she whimpered, staggering to her feet and collapsing again with a sharp pain, stifling another squeak as she trembled.

What just happened? Where in gods name were they? Underground? What was this spidery cave? She relaxed and opened her eyes from having shut them tight, those orbs looking around slowly again, body still quivering. This was a joke, right? She hissed under her breath as her tendrils curled closer to her as she sat on one of her legs, the other laying to one side, tail curved to one side to keep her from falling over.

Lion

Dram's heart was pounding in his chest, but it was a cold, conscious beat only to remind that he'd survived the fall.  He looked back at the tunnel and watched a something came over it and blocked the light that came so very vaguely through the hole.  As his eyes adjusted, he saw that the stone was smoothed over as if it had been cut away over time.  Lots of time.  He could probably bet that this cave was older than he was and win.  It didn't seem to be a natural formation though, the ground was unusually well-crafted for that, flattened to support something bipedal.

But he couldn't tell.  Dram slowly pulled Quial from its sheath and held it close to him in the event that something came out at them.  He looked on ahead.  Nothing but darkness and naught a torch in sight.  Not that it was necessary, but there was a good chance that whatever was down here was adapted to darkness.  He caste a glance at Scrylett, then unclasped the tentacle from his hand.  "It is probably for the best.  Wouldn't like being dragged again would you?" he said rhetorically.

"It seemed to be a pit of some kind and I don't think going back the way we came is very much an option. There ought to be another way out from here.  Shall we?"  Dram kept himself in a semi crouched position and started down the tunnel.  Just to where and what it led to, he didn't know.  But he sure as hell wasn't going to spend the rest of his life down here.

Yep, typical male. Her strained tendril was tossed aside and came back to her weakly. Yeah, right, being yanked again probably wasn't a healthy thing to have happen. She looked back up as their only source of light had left them, returning her glowing gaze to him in the pitch blackness. She frowned at him and just sat there, huffing softly to herself as he wandered off. "right, yu du thet..." she grumbled under her tongue, wincing still. Right now, she could care less if he left her behind! Not even checking to see if she was okay?

She wasn't afraid of this place in the least actually. Taking the time to calm herself, she put her book away and attempted to clean herself up, having not tried to get up again. She was in no hurry. Right now, she could not stand, but she didn't say anything of it. She would just let him do his man thing and wait until she herself was ready. Not like it was all that hard to wander through a cave, right? It should just be like any abyssal cave she's seen.

Lion

If he hadn't bothered to look after her, it had been because Dram had been too busy screaming his head off and trying to make sure that he hadn't broken his own neck on the way down.  The distance the fall had been surely had sent them at least two hundred feet underground.  At least.  He'd survived falls that were of approximately of that length, but those had been straight drops.  Here the curves had seemed only to speed up the velocity by which he had been slipping through it.  He'd been sorry that this woman had been dragged down here too, but if they were going to survive, they were going to have to get going.

Dram turned momentarily to look at her and saw that she was still on the ground.  "What are you doing there?" he said.  "Get up!  Don't be a fool, you'll die if you stay there."  Dram walked over and held out a hand for her to take to help her stand.  "And give me your real hand, not some tendril.  Try at least.  You won't know unless you try."

She twitched when is attention finally got to her and more so because he was yelling at her. What was this?? How DARE he! She opened her mouth to lay into him, but was outspoken by his next words. She shrank back at the sudden demand and looked at his hand, ears lowering timidly. Before she knew it, she extended her hand from her baggy sleeve and rested it in his, letting him pull her up. She was a big girl, and she had a healthy weight to her. His words ran through her head, but she was too shocked to reply in the heat of the moment.

She limped closer to him, having injured her leg from the fall, her hand trembling in his slightly. Those tendrils wiggled and she took another step to him, wondering why he was so worried right now. Calculating her injury, one tendril on that side lowered to the ground and walked with her foot like a makeshift leg to make it easier for her. Her large tail also shifted to her other side to put more weight on her good leg. She opened her mouth in an attempt to speak once more, but nothing came out and her mind went blank. She huffed under her breath, blushing again and she turned her head away frustratedly.

Lion

It was unlike him to go out of his way to help a complete stranger.  If he had found himself hanging in a tree, he more than likely would have just let himself hang there.  There was no point in getting involved, right?  And the less people knew him and about him, the better.  But this creature had gone out of her way to help him out and though he didn't like being in debt to anyone, he at least owed her the favor of helping her off the ground.  And Dram was never one to leave anyone in his party behind if he had anything to say about it.

"Are you able to walk at least?" he asked and looked at her leg with scrutiny, trying to see where it was injured.  It seemed sprained, nothing that would debilitate her permanently, but would make getting out of here all the much longer.  "Good, you're managing," he said absently and held her hand tighter to support her.  He let her got when he felt she had the right balance and nodded.  "Stay close.  And if you cannot stand, hang onto me.  But try to walk on your own if you can.  It will make this process all that much easier."

She nodded at his first question and looked at her leg with him as he inspected it with his eyes. Her eyes returned to his face when he was done. Managing? Sure, why not? She liked it when her hand was held tighter, but shrugged it off quickly. He let go then and she relaxed significantly, but also felt his warmth leave, making her drift off again. An exasperated sigh escaped her and she regained her composure. "God forbid, no?" She remarked, taking a moment to contemplate her injury. Her glowing orbs looked him over as a possibility, but she refrained. She'd save him for something more serious.

The next option was shifting the damage. Her tendrils arced around her and cast a small spell, writing glowing runes along the air. She extended one of her arms into this circle of runes and they lit up, each rune vanishing one after another, all gone once the spell was finished. They reappeared around her leg in reverse order, coming and going once more. She dropped her now weak arm and lifted her leg, stretching it gently and putting her weight on it. It was a temporary fix, but it was useful.

With that, she snubbed and walked past him, brushing his shoulder with her own as she continued off into the darkness. "I du not hev patience for yu tu panic..." she commented as she walked off elegantly, her tail swaying with her round hips as she put distance between them. So what? What was so bad about this stupid cave? Not like she couldn't defend herself. In fact, she wouldn't be here if she just left him after freeing him! Now look at the mess she was in! She was fearless, and took her time, strolling in her chosen direction, not the least bit worried about whatever might be lurking in here.

Lion

Dram despised the smug way which she regarded him, but it couldn't be helped.  He growled irritated in his throat but said nothing more of it.  He should have just left her there!  Dram followed too down the hallway and held Quial like it was a shield of some sort, something that would protect him from whatever was down here.  Fear had its uses, and he was glad for it now, as it kept him ready to react in an instant if needed.

The tunnel they were in widened slightly and had gouges in the sides as if something was used to dig out an object from the stone.  An idea spark in him.  Perhaps this cave had jewels, gold!  But he couldn't get greedy.  After all, these gouges were a clear sign that someone had gotten here before he did.  If so, he was more than likely better off finding a way out than sticking around to discover what kind of treasure was in here.  But that may or may not be an option.

Far ahead of them, an echo traveled in the cave, something that sounded like whispers to his ears.  They twitched in reaction and he shushed her, pausing to get a closer listen.  Dram laid down on the floor for a moment and put his ear to the ground, listening to their footsteps.  Two, three, six, eight, a dozen.  "Twelve," he whispered.  "Up ahead."  Dram crouched past her and looked on ahead in the darkness as torchlight finally spread out in a deep cove and there he saw twelve bodies all dressed up in ragtag pieces of armor.  They looked like a bunch of riffraff to him, but he saw they were all armed, every one of them.  There wasn't a doubt in his mind that they wouldn't take kindly to strangers.

From where they stood, the tunnel quickly ended and above them were pieces of wooden scaffolding that spread out over the cove and dropped down to another tunnel entrance beyond.  The scaffolding served as perches for the torches as well as hooks to hold things like picks and hammers.  Dram looked back at her and motioned for her to follow him.  If they played their cards right, they could probably sneak past them without being noticed.  Dram took one careful step on the scaffolding and tried to move forward.

He didn't get very far before a creak in the wood had one of the bandits looking up at him.  "Hey!" one of them shouted, pointing up at him.  "Who the hell are you?" Dram cursed under his breath and pulled a dart out his belt.  One quick throw sent the weapon hurdling into the throat of the one who noticed him.  But it was too late the others were already grabbing for their weapons.  This was going to real ugly real fast!

Ugh, now he was being cautious. She went along with it and stopped, letting him past her and listen. The 'shush' was uncalled four though. She was already quiet as a mouse! What more did he want? Twelve? She looked down at him. Hmm, so people were here, not that she cared. They moved on finally, to find the area of operation and the scaffolding. She looked around at them and let him attempt to lead her past with a silent sigh. The 'being spotted' made her shake her head, letting out a small disgruntled groan. "We are unlucky guests becuz yu are completely incapable ov securing yur ground enterances above!" she yelled back as the dart stabbed the man's throat. Great, that speech went to waste. Then the others saw. Then again, maybe it didn't go to waste!

"Thet went good, no?" she pointed out sarcastically. "Et least I don hev to kill yu now..." She told Dram with a small grin and soft chuckle as she turned to face the men below. With that, two of her tendrils came before her and pressed their palms together, pulling apart with a crackling frost crystal between them. A third tendril dropped behind and flicked the small crystal, and in a flash, a beam of black ice shot forth. She directed it into an ark before it faded, icing up the ladders and boards that they would need to get to them. "Thet should slow them down..." She calmly turned and headed along with Dram. "Du not dawdle..." she teased as her tendrils began forming another spell behind her.

Lion

Dram only watched with wonderment as Scrylett froze the passages that would reach them.  Now wasn't that useful.  And he definitely was one to take advantage of it now that he had a chance.  With his sword drawn, the men below them panicked before a few took out stones and other small objects with which to throw at them.  Dram cut some of them down and dodged the rest while he ran across the top, avoiding where the scaffolding was frozen noticing that staying up here was not going to be an option.  He did not have any skill in magic like she had, but he knew of at least one way of taking care of these bastards.

The only way to get to the otherside would have to be going through them.  Dram slid down one of the frozen ladders, balancing on the rungs and heading down to the bottom of the cavern right into the fray.  Perhaps he was invariably brave, or perhaps inevitably stupid.  But when he found his footing, his blade became a flashing song of silver light that rang against the steel of his enemies.  He parried and blocked and countered without fail, muscles working like they always did in the heat of combat.  Someone came from behind him and he whirled around, bringing Quial in the rhythm, quickly beheading the bandit in one fell swoop.  Another aimed for his head and he blocked and kicked the bastard in the balls before stabbing the kopis right through him.

Dram was taking them all on himself and working himself into a frenzy.  A split second gave him time enough to call to Scrylett.  "C'mon!  Help me out!"

Well that was quick. She calmly watched Dram jump down into the fray and stood there idly, enjoying the show until he beckoned for her assistance. So damn demanding! He huffed and walked to the edge charmingly, letting her tendrils help her climb down with grace. Now on the same level as the,. Her tendrils mad an arc around her, tail rising into an 'S' shape. The sound of crackling ice was heard as the room grew colder and dark prisms formed and floated idly around her elegant pose. She took a deep soothing breath as runes and orbs of darkness appeared, lingering and trailing shadow energy.

"These s nonsense..." she whispered slowly, her tendrils contracting into a smaller circle around her, the area beginning to coat with ice crystals. "Enough...!" she whispered louder, and in a flash, the room grew dark and cold, then dead silent. The icy fog cleared and only the soft sound of crackling ice remained. The calm would be disturbed by the gasps and breaths of the remaining men, now frozen from head to tow, concentrated from the floor up, even Dram.

Black ice engulfed their bodies, the thinnest near their chests and heads, allowing them to breathe and look with their eyes but preventing their bodies from moving. She looked at dram and frowned innocently. "du not look et me like thet...! "She whined. "Yu esked fur help...!" she defended herself with an adorable expression.

All but Dram would feel their strength being leeched slowly, pulled from their bodies as tiny shadowy orbs, then floating gently into her body and vanishing, absorbing into her. They would also splash into Dram, only by her choice and she would wait, letting them 'chill' while she thought of what to do. She didn't want to kill them, only drain them until they were useless. Until then, she just looked at Dram and stood there, twiddling her tendrils guiltily and blushing.

Lion

Dram was busy keeping them all back and was getting particularly irritated by the way his newfound companion found it in their best interests to take her sweet ass time.  Oh, he'd cut her off if he survived this!  He was a fighter by heart and repelled these two bit thugs with ease.  But they had the advantage of numbers where he had only his experience with fighting multiple enemies at once.  He dispatched two more of his opponents simultaneously as they both charged him at once, moving at the last second as they collided into each other, their blades piercing each other's hearts.

That was five out of the way, with six more remaining.  But even he couldn't last forever.  They were proving to be tougher than he thought and soon it seemed the room was getting colder, far colder than he would have liked.  Before he knew it, he was frozen solid as he was in mid-swing.  The cold was painful on his body and he struggled against it, his body filling with the hot blood of anger.  But at least it had stopped the assault.

He glared all his anger at the way Scrylett looked at him and spoke to him.  He meant a slightly different kind of help.  The kind that didn't make him a victim as well, but could say nothing of it.  No he didn't think it was funny at all, nor did he think that she was cute for doing so.  He'd made a mental not to get back at her later for this.  In the meantime, he was once again placed in a helpless state.

"Feel free tu stop stending there like en idiot..." she mumbled, walking over to him and having a tendril flick at his ice, instantly causing it to shatter and allowing him to break free from his prison. The orbs would still float to him and her, making a soft ripple as they were absorbed, mending their fatigue and wounds. "Yu should be grateful I em healing yu..." She mumbled, looking away.

Eventually all the ice would shatter on its own, leaving the leftover men with little to no strength, rendering them unconscious and collapsing them to the ground. "Men are so violent..." she commented as she watched the room calm with the lack of fighting.

Lion

Dram felt dreadfully cold in that goddamned block of ice and it had only begun to crack at the way he was struggling against it, but he wasn't sure of its own strength and soon she broke it for him, saving him a great deal of work.  He was still mad and would not easily forgive such a crime against him.  She might have been a caster, but that gave her no excuse to make him a pawn in her little spell book.  Maybe that's what that little diary thing was after all!  Ugh!

"I do not need healing," he said, stepping out of the ice and sheathing the sword.  He reached into one of the pockets of his belt and pulled out a small vial that contained a purple liquid.  He dabbled a small drop on his finger and put it away.  While the enemies were helpless on the ground, he didn't need them recovering anytime soon.  He stood over each and every one that was remaining and placed a dab of the liquid under each of their noses, knowing that every remaining breath would slowly be drained from them as the poison slowly took effect.

"Sometimes death need not always be violent," he commented.  And looked at Scrylett with narrow eyes.  "But thank you, and now that you seem to be better.  We should continue."  Dram led the way further down the tunnel, having a feeling that these bandits were just the beginning.
