The roads in Fallial had never been the best, but Garion didn't mind.  As long as his head only hit the top of the carriage two or three times on the way there, he wouldn't have to get on to the driver.  It helped that the journey from his fief to the Marellis' wasn't a long one.  The young lord stared out the window of the carriage, thoroughly ignoring the guard opposite him (Garion had attempted to annoy him enough earlier, and failed) and fidgeting impatiently.  He didn't like being cooped up for this long.

They were nearing the end of their journey, Garion could tell from the landmarks, and that only made him more impatient.  He hadn't been this way in months, and he was ready to see his friend already.  Finally, though, the castle came in sight.  Thank the gods.

When the carriage came to a halt, Garion practically leapt out the carriage door, ready to stretch his legs again.  "Gods, that was awful," he said to no one in particular, looking around.  He looked up, ready to see his friend again.  "Hello, there!"

Francisco's home was comfortable, although it lacked the baubles, over-the-top lawn art, and bustling servants the richer families boasted.  Nevertheless, it was obvious that the homeowners were not poor; a well-maintained garden could be glimpsed, and the house itself looked spacious and decorated with a loving attention to detail.

A single figure stepped off the porch, heralded by the voice of a giggling child.  The giggles only made Fran frown, however; he knew, on some level, it was wrong to blame his younger sibling for his father's flaws...but it was hard when the little brat's laughter could be heard all the way out front.  Ugh.

Nevertheless, seeing his old friend brought a genuine smile to his face.  "You're late," he criticized good-naturedly as he extended a hand in greeting.
