In a small, secluded clearing stood a most unusual tower. It was unusual not only because of the soft yellow glow that surrounded it at all times, but also because this tower was only here for half of each passing day. In the mornings and evenings it stood proudly and mysteriously, with seemingly not a soul in sight. But in the afternoons and nights, it vanished back into the Astral Plane, leaving the mortal realm entirely at these times. However even with the tower's vacancy, nothing could take its place. It mattered not what time of day it was, anything placed or planted there would either disappear for good or simply be relocated somewhere else.

For within this tower lay many secrets of vast knowledge and power, the likes of which were not meant for mortal eyes to see at all. Only the chosen Keeper of the tower may peruse and study all the information inside its seemingly incorporeal walls. But while it may look incorporeal, it was in fact not so. At least not entirely. There wasn't even a door leading in or out. That door only appeared when its Keeper willed it into existence and nobody else. The mysterious being who resided day in and day out within this otherworldly domain was innately linked to the tower in such a way that he was aware of any and all who passed by it. And when they did, he would mislead them to go elsewhere, a subtle trick of the mind and senses to leave and never come back. Sometimes such ended in bloodshed, though not always.

It was early morning as Kaseroth was pouring through yet another tome of ancient and forbidden arcana, its pages pleasantly crinkling under his touch, when he sensed a presence nearby that should not be here. The Keeper looked up from the book on the large mahogany table in front of him and sighed. "Yet another comes to trespass..." he murmured softly. And so he would do what he always did. Lead them astray by whatever means possible. It was his sacred duty as a Keeper to protect both tower and gate from intruders.

Reaching out with his mind, Kaseroth's mental awareness touched that of another. A young elven female it appeared. While he could not actually see her, the enigmatic being sensed her presence all the same, a distinctly elven one at that. Rising from his high-backed chair, Kaseroth stood up then and prepared to astral project his spirit outside of his body to just in front of where the tower entrance would normally be. Which of course the door wasn't there, only smooth stone wall would greet the newcomer. While such tasks were tiring, they were necessary as well. Soon his disembodied spirit was standing outside, transparent as usual, just a little ways from where the elf was. Orange glowing eyes met those of the intruder, those eyes which would strike mild fear in most.

Lorin was carrying her daggers, so she was open for attack, but she wasn't worried, at least not yet.

She was lost.

But she was confident that she would be able to find her way back out of the forest again, she was an elf, after all, and even though she mostly was used to cities, the forests still felt comfortable to her, though she wasn't connected to the wood as deeply as some other elves were.

She whistled to herself as she traveled, she wasn't in a hurry to get anywhere, so she took being lost as an opportunity to sort of meditate.  The wood was peaceful, birds singing, mice rusting in the dead leaves, their sounds so quiet a human would have trouble hearing them.

She held her hands down at her sides, palms open, clearly relaxed and comfortable.

Then she abruptly stopped, her hands immediately clenching into fists.  She senses something.  It was very, very faint, but it was there.  Magic?  She couldn't tell, but she continued forward, though now tense and on guard.

Then she came to the clearing, and her eyes fell upon the tower that stood in it.  She took a deep breath, so it was magic, or it sure felt like it.

The tower was strange, and Lorin studied it closely.  As far as she could tell, there was no door ion this side, and something told here there wasn't one on the other side either.

All the same, she walked closer, because if Lorin was anything, it was curious, and this was a very curious tower.

And then something even more curious happened as Lorin got closer to the tower.  A man appeared.

Right outside the tower, facing Lorin.  He was transparent, and his eyes glowed, so Lorin assumed him to either be some sort of spirit or ghost, or a completely fake magical projection, meant to scare away intruders.

Lorin was not going to be scared away that easily.  She walked up to him.

"Who are you?" she asked, a simple enough question, in case it was simple-minded, though Lorin doubted that.
