This was exactly why she despised having guests in the winter, as necessary as it was.

A freak, early snowstorm had muddied an evening of drinking and a lovely farewell dinner, making it necessary for the High Lady to offer her guests another night's stay to give them shelter. After all they were from Ravensway and couldn't be expected to travel in a flurry. As much as she was itching to be in a guest-free household again she could hardly thrust them out upon a frozen doorstep after being among their company for nearly three weeks already.

So she made the hospitable gesture, welcoming them to stay without question and settle back in until the storm passed.

When she was finally able to retire to her study she was surprised to see a familiar, young courier settled in a seat by the fire. She was a special one that only delivered and received one kind of message by hand, at least in House Riordan. "Miss Carlton, what a pleasant surprise. I hope I haven't kept you waiting long, I wasn't told you were here. Is your mother well?" she asked automatically, already distracted with trying to remember the last time the Madam had an offer sent to her through her daughter Alice.

The young lady snickered, offering an affirmative hum as she stood and closed the small distance between them to press a familiar dark green envelope, still sealed, into the High Lady's hand. "She's quite well, thank you. I think she's found you a good one. Handsome fellow at least," she offered casually, returning to the fire for her coat knowing she needed to venture back out into the snow very soon.

Eyla opened the letter as she crossed the room to sit at her desk, already pulling out parchment to write her response upon as she got settled. "Harold Korbeck," she mused, reading the generous proposal. He was in the area for two weeks and was only requesting her for any one night among them. When they did come about it was rare to have a client be so thoughtful about her own schedule, not that many knew how truly difficult it was at times to slip away for a bit of fun.

"Two days' time," she decided aloud even as she wrote a more formal reply, sealed it, and leaned over her desk to scoot it to the edge closest to the girl with a playful, "In case the letter's lost.

"Would you rather head out in the morning, Alice? There's certainly room enough for you here." Even as she said it, though, the young woman was waving her off as she pulled on her coat, slipping the letter into an inner pocket before completely doing up its ties.

"No need, Your Ladyship. I'd like to get home before there's too much on the ground, see. Awful storm coming in."

"Yes," she bemoaned, already turning her attention to the real mail still waiting for her attention as the young lady made to leave. "Be safe out there."

"We'll see you soon." Alice gave a small wave before she slipped out to brave the storm once more, leaving the High Lady to deliberate her choice in silence as she perused the rest of her letters.

She wasn't expecting more company until a bit later in the week, so it was really an ideal time to sneak away for some fun before life got busy again. She could only hope the storm would settle in time for her to venture out of town without hassle.

Ro'or Dvorak was utterly and completely for lack of a better word, bored. His Northwatch informant, Harold Korbeck had insisted that there was some juicy tidbit of information for the Tirialian advisor that the man just had to see for himself. Harold was giving nothing away either now that the tall, dark man had arrived. He was all smiles and giddy excitement for such a large and normally droll man.

It was beyond irritating for Ro'or to have to sit there and listen to the man titter on about absolutely nothing of importance as a storm to match the advisor's dark mood continued to rage on outdoors. Harold knew he was getting on the younger man's nerves but nevertheless continued with his chattering as it amused him to no end to see Ro'or's foul mood crease the lines in his brow further and further. At any moment the nobleman was sure the Tirialian would snap. He had to hide his smile behind a glass of port as Ro'or finally opened his mouth to speak.

"And when during this little respite with you will I finally glean the bit of gossip you seem so keen on dragging me up here to see for myself?"

"Oh tosh, you're young. It would not kill you to simply enjoy a bit of good drink and the company of a friend who has your best interests at heart."

Ro'or glared, making the other man laugh and pour them both some more liquor. "Your problem Ro'or is that you have yet to find yourself a nice girl to settle down with and distract you in between your," Harold waved his hand about, "chess tournaments if you will. But, as I can see you're getting mighty jumpy, our venture into the thick of it all will come in two days time. You arrived far sooner than I had expected you to but I assure you, you will not be disappointed."

"You say that now," Ro'or grumbled with a roll of his eyes. Otherwise though he kept his comments to himself even as Harold resumed burying him in idle talk. For a moment his thoughts drifted to his twin sister, testing their bond despite the distance. He could not hear her thoughts from here but at least he could tell that she felt content and perhaps even a bit elated about something or another. He assumed it was something small such as the chef's making her one of her favorite pastries again. Amleah always did get so overly excited about the smallest of details and courtesies paid to her. Ro'or almost wished he was back with her. At least then he could survive her dancing thoughts flitting into his skull much better than Harold's nasally voice rattling on and on about who wore what to which function and how scandalous it had all been. The next two days were going to be the death of him, he was sure.

Her arrangement with her madam, Glenda Carlton, was simple on the outside but had required complex maneuvering in its initial days. Eyla had become High Lady quite young while still being quite eligible. Over time suitors had come and gone, or rather had been chased out. She'd left more than one man standing at the altar, skipping out on weddings as though they were simply missed appointments and turning away beaus as if they'd never had any agreements at all. She'd changed her mind frequently and seemingly without cause.

Through those times her exploits had been careless, bedding men at her own fancy regardless of status. It was so very time-consuming, though, gossip spread like wildfire, and she was putting herself at great risk sneaking away by herself. Her reputation eventually led to her introduction to Madam Carlton so that sex could be arranged for her with clients of note at a price that would have been cost-prohibitive to all but those of wealth. It took a lot of the fun out of it when she stopped going out alone to pick up a man for the night. With a sister at home becoming more of a lady herself every year, though, she didn't want to risk the hit to House Riordan's reputation if such a thing became a common sight. Kailinna deserved a clean slate to build her life upon, as far as Eyla was concerned.

The High Lady's exploits were, of course, still well-known. There was no shroud of secrecy with her clients, but she was just a woman seeking her fun. It was forbidden to speak of it openly in the High Lady's manor but it was still common knowledge in the province as a whole and even beyond. It wasn't uncommon for her to be requested by nobles and businessmen for a bit of fun in their travels through the area, and Harold Korbeck seemed fairly normal in that regard.

Snow still coated the ground when the day finally came so she arrived at the brothel extra early that evening. She was ushered off and spent some time warming herself in a hot bath before she was taken to her usual room for the night to primp: painting lips and setting her long, waist-length curls just so. Among whores there was no need for her usual attire and her slip of a dress barely contained her breasts or covered her ass. The dark green fabric was mostly sheer and left hardly anything to the imagination anyway.

She settled herself to sit in the middle of the bed to wait for her client to arrive, legs folded beneath her and the fabric of her dress riding up enough to show plenty of skin without fully exposing herself. For once her hair fanned out against her back instead of being confined to some intricate up-do as it often was, a few strands falling forward over her shoulders as she turned her head to watch the dancing flames at the hearth in contemplative silence.

Harold Korbeck had been nearly impossible to put up with over the course of days it took before his "grand reveal" as he kept calling it to Ro'or. It was a miracle that the Tirialian man had not suffocated Harold in his sleep. The stodgy nobleman was simply unbearable in his excitement. Now that it was at last the evening of Harold's grand show it was everything that Ro'or could do to bite his tongue and remain calm.

The pair travelled by coach to their destination, arriving with enough pomp and circumstance to make the tall, dark man grit his teeth in irritation. There the madam of the brothel herself, Glenda Carlton, greeted them as they were ushered in from the snowy evening. She smiled tightly, a sign that Ro'or took to mean that although they were expected, his own presence might not have been forewarned. This was confirmed as Harold who she addressed by title was dragged off to the side to discuss payment in harsh, whispered tones.

Eventually the arrangement was sorted out though as Glenda looked Ro'or up and down while accepting the heavy purse of jingling coins from Harold and bowed to them knowingly. "Right this way gentlemen. Red is ready and will see you now," she beckoned the men before leading them through the hall of heavy oak doors and plush rugs.

She knocked on the door before opening it and allowing first Ro'or and then Harold enter before closing it behind them and retreating again. Ro'or stepped slowly into the room, taking in his surroundings while eyeing the daintily posed woman on the bed with a modicum of disinterest.  Harold's thump to his back only served to make him roll his eyes as he stepped away and allowed the other man to step forward and up to the bed.

"My Lady Red, it is an honor to meet you at last. I do hope we can have some fun this evening," he purred, glancing back to Ro'or who was making himself comfortable in a chair off to the side away from the "main event."

She'd heard the muffled footsteps before they arrived at her door, eyes flickering to watch her client for the evening enter when she heard the knock upon the door. She caught a glimpse of Glenda through the doorway but her eyes fixed upon the dark-haired man as he entered, observing his seeming disinterest curiously. She'd certainly had clients before that had been more "put up" to the task of bedding her rather than seek her out for their own desires, but they usually enjoyed themselves anyway and this stranger didn't seem like either applied to him.

Eyla narrowed her eyes in confusion as she watched Ro'or step away and noticed Harold for the first time. Her eyes searched to find her madam in brief alarm, though curiously Glenda shot her an apologetic look and gave a short, affirmative nod when their eyes met before the door was closed. So she was aware of the situation and was allowing it. She could only assume everything was all right and payment had been squared away if both men had been permitted entry to her suite, so tension flowed out of her briefly as she lifted her eyes to look up at Harold for approaching her bedside.

"Mister Korbeck," she purred in greeting, assuming it would be him if he'd had the gall to approach her, eyes glinting angrily even as she forced a sickeningly sweet smile to her lips. For a brief moment she pondered continuing on like nothing odd had happened and there wasn't some unknown man making himself comfortable across the room like they were in a parlor instead of a whorehouse. But she wouldn't let them get away with it easily even if they had paid. Nothing had been cleared with her and she was certainly going to have a few choice words for Glenda when the night was over. Crawling forward and stepping down off the bed she abruptly dropped the smile, glaring up at him and pointing accusingly at Ro'or though her eyes were fixed upon the portly man.

"You neglected to inform me we would have a guest this evening," she hissed at the larger man, her other hand already poised upon her hip in an unconscious effort to appear tougher. Perhaps he might have some explanation for her, but really she already had half a mind to reject him entirely for deceiving her. Where was the fun in that?

GoblinFae

While Harold made a show of eagerly greeting the whore, Ro'or took in the details of the room and her person. She was pretty, he would give her that. But, she was bordering the line of trying too hard in his opinion. Her outfit left little to the imagination where he would have much preferred that little bit of illusion in a female's figure. Her pose too beckoned and welcomed the unsuspecting and suspecting male into her embrace without her having to even lift a finger.

His observations though quick, were cut short abruptly as the woman was snapping to her feet in a blink of an eye. Ro'or found himself not really focusing on what was being said as he drank in the way her dark curls bounced against her rear. Had he been in Harold's position he would have readily sunk his hands into those locks. They looked incredibly soft.

"Now, now," Harold soothed, reaching out to place his hands gently on her shoulders, his thumbs rubbing littler circles against her skin. "My dear you must forgive me this small bother. It is one of my quirks if you will. I did not think a woman as lovely as yourself would be so offended. Why even Madam Carlton allowed it without a fuss! My young friend here will simply be watching. I'm sure you'll quickly forget he's even here, that is of course," he added, looking down at her with a quirk of his brow, "you're still amenable to our agreement."

Though her posture relaxed a bit at his explanation her jaw remained set and decidedly tense. Eyla turned her head to look at the other man, brows drawn and lips pursed as she studied him. He was certainly far more attractive than his companion, but there was something decidedly unnatural about the darkness surrounding him. Dangerous, even, but it left her with a sense that there was something she was missing.

There was silence for a moment as she thought on it all, but her features gradually relaxed, returning to a pleasant smile though her eyes still burned with a seething anger for Harold's deception.

Lowering her arms back to her sides she turned her head to address Harold in a sweet tone that held none of her annoyance with him, "Of course! It's no bother, I just don't appreciate surprises. Who's your friend?" Even as she asked her full attention remained on him, wanting to maintain the illusion that he was what held her interest most.

"In the future such details must be included in your request, but I can certainly make an exception for you today, Mister Korbeck." Her tone changed to an easy, practiced purr at his name, a hand raised to trail a light, beckoning touch against his neck as she lowered herself back down to the bed.

GoblinFae

"Of course, of course," Harold hurried to agree even as he followed her down onto the bed as he crawled over her body and leaned into press a kiss to her neck. "Don't worry about him," he whispered against her skin. "He's the nephew of a widow friend. I promised to show him the best of Northwatch. Maybe he'll learn something," the older man chuckled, knowing that his words held different meanings for both listeners in the room.

Across the room, Ro'or could feel himself internally cringing although outwardly he showed nothing of his feelings. While he was unopposed to being a voyeur to the acts that were about to take place before him, he personally would have rather not been forced into watching Harold Korbeck, of all people, with his trousers down. The man was not much to look at with his clothes on. Ro'or shuddered to imagine what he would look like divested of them in a few short moments.

Green eyes flickered to look at Ro'or once more at Harold's explanation. The lack of a given name coupled with the knowledge of their connection gave Eyla a false sense of security. It was easy enough to believe he wasn't anyone of importance or esteem. He didn't seem particularly young, but neither was Harold so the story was believable enough for her. This was a time to relax anyhow, not to be worrying about an extra, harmless pair of eyes on her.

"How kind of you," she praised lightly, lips curving into a mischievous smile as she rolled them over to straddle his lap. The small ties securing her scant clothing were easily undone and she shrugged off the light fabric to pool at the foot of the bed. Beneath her skin was already bare, still warm from her bath and glowing by the firelight.

A soft hand trailed a light touch along the man's chest, head tilted to one side as she studied him. Under any other circumstances Eyla would have been disgusted and never given him a second glance. Harold was clearly a gluttonous man but it was her job to make him feel desired.

Her hair fell over her shoulder as practiced fingers were already making headway on removing the clothing that separated them. Truthfully she just wanted to get on with it and fulfill her end of their bargain, but there was no harm in pretending she was enjoying it. The hardness that pressed against her through his trousers told her that Harold surely was already. She flashed him a coy grin and murmured a short, "You don't mind, do you?" even as she stripped him down without waiting for a proper answer.

Her foreplay with him was distant: all hands and touching, sighs of pleasure without any kisses or whispered words. Through it all she maintained a particular air of sweetness, though. She did need to be engaged, but certainly not much. She was hungry, but not for anyone in particular and definitely not for Mister Korbeck, though he would do just fine. The portly man seemed to have the opposite in mind, though. Her every touch drew out stunted gasps and gutteral moans from him, but his hands were rough and hungry against her skin, greedy and silently asking for more.

It was only when Eyla lowered herself onto his cock that he finally relaxed, though pitiful whining escaped his throat as she slowly rocked their hips together. She watched him with a twinkle of amusement in her eyes, enjoying her moment of power as she felt his desperate struggling and short, stunted bucks against her. A fitting torment, she felt, for his minor act of deception, but she unfortunately also got the feeling Harold was enjoying himself immensely by his lack of complaint. Pity.

She got to moving at her own pace, fucking herself on him in a sensual rhythm that bounced her curls about, enjoying the sounds of pleasure she elicited from him but unable to look at the man beneath her. Her eyes wandered, instead finding the man seated across the room again. If only their places were switched! A soft smile reached her lips and what she'd meant to be a quick glance turned into an admiring stare as she drank him in, though she didn't quite realize she was staring.

GoblinFae

While Harold certainly enjoyed himself, Ro'or found that he only had eyes for the only woman in the room. She was a fiery vixen all but begging to be taken command of but instead Harold allowed her to dominate him with her soft caresses and sweet sighs. It was one of the greatest disappointments that the younger man had had the misfortune to observe. Had the male's roles been reversed, he was certain he would not make the same mistake. The temptress would not win against him, of that he was sure.

When her gaze wandered from her work to him, he met her eyes with a great deal of amusement. Ro'or quirked a knowing brow and smirked. His vermilion eyes bored into her hungrily, promising dark secrets and desires that only he could provide to her. All she had to do was submit to him.

It was really such a shame that he was stuck on such a fruitless mission. There was nothing special about a pretty little whore. Harold would be getting quite an earful once he was in a more lucid frame of mind again. Ro'or would make sure that the older man's ear was perfectly worn down when he was at last done with him. The dark man was a busy one and could not afford to have his time wasted so frivolously on petty whores.

Harold's fun was over in no time at all as he finally reached completion with a few deep grunts and a pathetic whine and shudder. Meanwhile Ro'or settled back more comfortably into his seat, brushing imaginary dust from his trouser leg. He was the complete embodiment of extreme boredom.

When their gazes met she could only offer a cheeky grin and a shrug for getting caught staring. The younger man was infinitely more appealing to her than her partner for the evening, all handsome and mysterious on the other side of the room. His eyes seemed to burn with unspoken words, and she shuddered slightly at the thought of what those might be. Or rather, what she imagined those might be with the way he was looking at her.

It was all she could do to mask a pout of disappointment at Harold's lack of stamina. It felt like they'd only just begun, really, but she returned her attention to him. Climbing down to kneel beside him instead with the warmest smile she could muster she purred a quiet lie of, "That was great, Mister Korbeck."

It was really all the enthusiasm she could muster, hungry eyes drifting to the dark stranger briefly again as she stamped down her unfulfilled desires. She moved to collect her things and slowly get dressed to distract herself from the disappointment.

"Shall I have them draw a bath for you?" she asked, though it was more a suggestion than anything. With a Tirialian ambassador due to arrive any day she had final preparations to attend to since her Ravensway guests had just departed. She wanted him gone and quickly so she could return home and get some proper rest before her next extended visitor arrived.

GoblinFae

Ro'or did his best not to let his amusement be heard. He had not pissed the fleeting look in her eyes that spoke volumes of her unfulfilled desires. The dark man shifted about delicately, letting his eyes lower out of "respect" to Harold even as Ro'or covered his own mouth to hide the slight upward turn of his lips.

"It most certainly was milady," the nobleman replied, giving Eyla's bare rear a swat before letting her go about her business. Unphased by his own nakedness even in front of his guest, Harold Korbeck simply continued to watch the fiery woman with a dark leer. He considered it a great shame that his age left him unable to carry the same stamina as a young man. He would have liked to go several more rounds with her, had he been able to do so.

Stretching and sitting up with a tired sigh, he at last moved to drag his gluttonous form off the bed again. "A bath would be delightful my dear. Will you be joining?" he smirked, winking openly at her as he leaned against one of the bedposts. "There's no real rush now is there?"

In his own corner of the room, Ro'or pinched the bridge of his nose and internally cringed. The warm firelight that had earlier basked the woman in its glow, created visual horrors as it cast shadows upon Harold's saggy, round form. It was not a sight that the younger man enjoyed seeing clothed, let alone now divested of all apparel and so very much at ease with his own nakedness. Nevertheless, the ambassador kept his place, unwilling to draw further attention to himself. The last thing he wanted was Harold coming his way while still naked.

A knowing smile reached her lips at the feigned innocence in his question and she eyed him quietly, doing her best to seem impressed despite how very not impressed she was.

"As lovely as that sounds I really couldn't," she informed him, forcing a thoughtful pout to her lips as she tucked herself back into her clothing, suddenly in much more of a rush to get going. As much as she wanted to get clean she didn't want to spend any more time with Harold than she already had even if it meant she might be able to see more of his companion as well. And she really did have other matters to attend to, which was really none of Harold's business.

"I'll make sure they have the very best waiting for you, though," she promised, reaching out to caress his cheek with a smirk before turning to grab her small pack and head for the door. She spared one last look at Ro'or, not even trying to hide the way her eyes lingered on him. He really didn't seem young enough to be casually touring the province, but who was she to judge?

"I hope you enjoy Northwatch," she bid him with a sly smile, nodding her head before finally slipping out the door.

Making her way to Glenda's office she exchanged some brief but harsh words with the Madam as she collected and changed into more practical clothing and a coat for the ride home. The coin purse containing her cut was handed over easily enough but Eyla didn't have the energy to argue the details with her now. All she gleaned from their conversation was that Harold had sprung his "guest" upon her at the last minute and she certainly had not been keeping that information from the High Lady previously. It was as much a surprise to her and Eyla really couldn't blame her for acting as she had.

Thankfully Glenda was more than willing to assist with her offer of a lavish bath, assuring the High Lady all the best soaps and scrubs would be made available to Mister Korbeck. Eyla didn't delay, trusting her old friend would carry out her wishes and leaving to return home.

Glenda oversaw preparations, allowing the gentlemen remaining in Eyla's suite ample time to themselves while a bath was being readied. She returned to the door, knocking to announce her arrival but not daring to open it herself. "Your bath is ready, Mister Korbeck. When you're ready I can take you there."

GoblinFae

Harold pouted at the rejection but nevertheless leaned into her gentle touch slightly before bidding her a pleasant rest of her evening. Ro'or meanwhile, watched her exit from the corner of his eye. His head bobbed almost imperceptibly in response before she was finally out the door and most likely off to pleasure her next customer. Perhaps she would have better luck with the next man in finding her own satisfaction than she did in the stodgy nobleman's embrace.

With her at last gone, the dark man turned his hardened gaze to his informant, glaring silently. Harold laughed and stretched, his hands reaching to the ceiling as if nothing was amiss. "Did you like the show my friend? Isn't she simply delightful? I promise you, you'll not have met a finer woman in all of Northwatch."

Ro'or slid easily from his chair to stand tall over the other man. "This is what you dragged me out here for? To watch you pathetically hump some little redhead hussy! I could have done without the sight thank you very much. Korbeck you have some serious explaining to do," he hissed, staring down at the older man with a sneer of complete disgust.

"Now, now," Harold soothed calmly, "don't go getting your knickers in a knot. She's quite a lovely woman if you have eyes to see it. I assure you our trip today has not been a complete waste-"

He was cut off from saying more as Ro'or snarled and tossed a bundle of clothes at him. "Get dressed you old fool. I don't need to be seeing you flapping about so distastefully. It was bad enough I had to be privy to that disgusting display earlier. I don't need an encore or backstage performance now!"

The older man laughed, accepting the wad of clothing but making no move to actually put them on. Instead he moved to hold the clothes in front of him to offer himself some modicum of decency. In front of him, Ro'or began to pace the room in tight circles like a caged beast, ready to spring the moment the cage door was opened.

"Relax old friend. Have some patience. You know I would not lead you so astray. Perhaps the information isn't relevant yet but I assure you, you won't be disappointed!"

"You made those same claims days ago when I first arrived. How long will you proceed to lead me on for? How long will you play this little game of yours, Korbeck? How-" Ro'or was cut off from continuing by a gentle knock on the door that left him scowling and spinning across the room with crossed arms.

"Thank you my dear," Harold replied, sweetly. "I'll only be a moment more," he added as he hopped into his trousers and headed for the door. "Perhaps you should return before me. The night air might cool some of your temper, friend," he urged as he exited the room, leaving Ro'or to his own devices.

The High Lady was grateful for her bit of peace at home, the manor empty besides the people that called it home. It gave her a chance for some much-needed rest and relaxation when her next guest did not arrive any earlier than she'd expected him, but it made her wonder if her ambassador guest might be late instead. Not that she would mind it personally, but it would be a fairly careless thing to do if the storm had not delayed him.

When a servant announced her guest's arrival at her door mid-morning the very day he was expected she couldn't help the small sense of relief that came over her. Things could proceed as normal; no hiccups or surprises.

Eyla asked for her younger sister to be sent down to greet and entertain him in her stead while she finished preparing herself for the day. When Kai was informed of her request she merely rolled her eyes, knowing full well from her habits it was only to hide the fact that she wasn't primped and ready to receive a guest herself. Her younger sister was at least presentable, her darker curls tucked neatly behind her ears and a simple but finely-made dress of blueish gray gracing her form.

The servant led her down to the main hall Ro'or had been left in but as soon as the younger Riordan sister caught sight of him she dismissed the young woman with a few quiet words and a smile so she might greet their guest without an audience. His appearance and all black clothing while surprising and different from what she was used to seeing was not off-putting in the least.

"Welcome to Northwatch. Kailinna Riordan at your service," Kai greeted him warmly once she made her way closer, bowing her head to him slightly before lifting a brow questioningly, "You're from Tirial, I presume?"

With her trusting nature Kai smiled warmly and turned her head in gesture to lead him down the hall to a proper sitting room so they didn't need to have their conversation in front of the main door. "Eyla- The High Lady will join us momentarily. She was a bit- ah, preoccupied," she offered in explanation with an innocent smirk and giggle, knowing it was not really her place to say that her sister had not been fulling prepared for him to arrive on time.

The ambassador had steamed for days over Harold's little show, going so far as to even refuse to speak to his host for the remainder of his stay. It was therefore a blessed relief when the Korbeck household was at last bidding their dark and brooding guest a not so fond farewell. The sun had not even fully peaked the horizon before Ro'or was riding off in his carriage towards his appointment with the province's High Lady.

There he at least hoped to have a more predictable reception. Perhaps he could even glean some truly useful information that would then make the trip up north not completely obsolete. While Amleah may not mind her ambassador returning home without anything incriminating against Northwatch to share, Ro'or would not be as easily placated.

He at last arrived by mid-morning, well after most nobles broke their evening fast. A servant greeted him, waiting for him to exit the carriage before directing him up to the main entrance where a young woman then took charge of his presence. The new servant greeted him warmly, bidding him wait a moment as she let the lady of the house know he was there.

Ro'or of course was polite, but stiff in his interactions. The moment her back was turned, his face fell into his neutral mask of disinterest. As he waited he took in the decor around him. The colors were more neutral than he had expected. There was definitely a prevailing earthy tone about the whole area. Ro'or accredited that to the "woman's touch" that must have come from the province's ruling High Lady. Men tended to want less art and more trophy heads from their hunts on display. The only difference between the Northwatch manor and the one in Tirial was that Eyla Riordan had not yet managed to turn the manor into all forms of bright, cheerful yellow that his sister Amleah kept attempting to do to theirs.

He was interrupted from his musings though as the servant returned with a young woman. "Thank you, Lady Riordan," he intoned softly with a gentlemanly bow. Ro'or kept his face in check even as he mused on the High Lady had not even come to greet him, herself.

"Yes, indeed." He straightened, offering his arm to Kailinna politely. "I apologize if I arrived too early. I had hoped to be prompt and not keep the High lady waiting," he mused softly. In his head though, Ro'or was already formulating ideas for what was keeping the woman so long. In his book preoccupied usually meant that someone was dallying with a servant or suitor. Either would be amusing enough for him. He resolved to keep an extra close eye on the High Lady when she at last made appearance. Perhaps she would be all rosy-cheeked and slightly tussled hair.

Kai took up his offered arm politely but still kept a respectful distance between them. While appreciative of his promptness she understood that Eyla dealt with volatile appointments more often than not. Given the travel needs of many who visited their home it was almost never possible to pin something down to a specific day or even time of day, but he had arrived essentially when he’d been expected; politely prompt but not too early in the morning.

She realized as they walked that he had not given her his name or title, but it was also understandable if he did not wish to discuss such things with her. Or rather, only with the High Lady since it was they that had business together. She was certain her elder sister had mentioned his name at least once before and it would be rude to ask it when she should have known his name.

“Not at all, we appreciate your promptness. I fear she has simply become accustomed to others being late for her and the bad habit is starting to rub off.” Kai grinned privately, shaking her head slightly and eyes twinkling with an apology that wasn’t entirely sincere as she led him to the quiet sitting room away from the bustle about the house. There she released him and took a seat in her favorite chair, sinking into the soft cushion with a small sigh of happiness and motioning her hand for him to take a seat as well.

“Please sit wherever you’re comfortable,” she told him gently while gesturing to the other chairs gathered together and the larger chaise if he preferred it, smirking with remembrance and guilt. “I’m sorry about that, I shouldn’t speak of her so. She’s been looking forward to your visit. It’s not every day we get to see a new face around here.”

Eyla wasn’t far behind them but she was delayed for a few moments while the servant that had passed their guest off to Kai tried to remember where they’d gone. In the end she felt a bit silly for not just checking their main sitting room on her own, it wasn’t as though there were that many places they could have gone. There was a small, nagging anxiety in her chest to know that her sister was knowingly in a room with a man. Alone.

The heels of her boots clicked quietly against the floor as she made her way down the hall, the rugs muffling most of the sharp clacks that would echo off the wood beneath them. Unlike the night they’d truly first met Eyla was dressed in fine, but conservative clothing. Dresses only graced her body on either extremely casual or extremely formal occasions, her daily ensemble seeming more the clothing of a man, but with a feminine touch.

A crisp tunic of burnt, reddish copper draped over her torso, the neckline dipping low enough to display her collarbones without exposing her cleavage and the middle cinched at the waist by a rather ornately decorated belt. Slim, dark leather was brightened by stitches of white and bright bursts of color along the front. Trousers of dark tan hugged along the curves of her hips and legs, the ends tapered and tucked neatly into the tops of her boots.

Her auburn curls were bright and lively from a fresh wash but were bound in a loose braid that ended just past her shoulders with a black ribbon bow securing the ends. Looser strands framed her face but were tucked away behind her ears as she paused at the door, relaxing some to hear her sister’s voice behind it.

She knocked briefly to announce her arrival, knuckles rapping twice against the wood and a warm smile already upon her face as she stepped inside to greet them. Her eyes were immediately drawn to the familiar face of her sister, but there was something familiar about the stranger in the room even before she saw his face clearly.

Her smile faltered when she realized it was his hair she recognized, too similar to that of a stranger from the other night. When she caught sight of his familiar, handsome face panic flashed in her green eyes for only a brief moment before she reined it in, not wanting her sister to see that she knew this man from anywhere. So this was Ro'or, Lady Dvorak's ambassador. To ensure that Kai didn't have any reason to suspect otherwise Eyla tried to act as she would normally around an unknown guest.

She crossed the room with confidence to stand before them, bowing slightly at the waist before offering her hand to him in greeting. "Good morning, Ro'or. High Lady Riordan," she introduced herself tersely, glancing between them before moving to sit in her own chair and crossing one leg over her knee casually, her eyes burning with unspoken questions as she stared across at him.

"And good morning, Kai," she rushed to offer with a chuckle, reaching out to jab her younger sister lightly in the arm for briefly forgetting her, though her attention quickly returned to their guest. Her eyes were drawn to him for many reasons, but at least it would not be seen as unusual for her to give him her undivided attention.

"I'm very sorry for the delay, I wasn't sure when you might arrive today," she offered with a tight-lipped smile, content on exchanging pleasantries until she could be rid of her sister. "But we're happy to have you. How was your trip? Any news from the road?"

GoblinFae

"Has she now?" Ro'or mused aloud. He kept his thoughts to himself though even as he judged the High Lady of Northwatch harshly for her lateness. "I am happy then to be of service to her ladyship," he continued as he was led into the rather homey-looking room. It was definitely more of a setting that he expected of his sister. Ro'or resisted the urge to pinch the bridge of his nose as he sent a silent prayer that the absent Lady Riordan would not be as bubbly as his own Amleah when greeting newcomers. After Harold's antics, the man really could not see himself enduring much more social interaction torture.

He took a seat, smiling politely to the young woman across from him as they conversed over the usual, simple pleasantries. They did not have to wait long blessedly, though Ro'or still held it against the High Lady even as she entered the room with an undeniable air of confidence and authority. He was already on his feet again at her entrance, drinking her in when it hit him. She was the woman in red. No longer garbed in the skimpy green getup that left next to nothing to the imagination, she was clearly demanding all in the room to obey her while still maintaining her own femininity. After all, there was only so much she could do to hide those generous curves.

It seemed though, that he was not the only one who had recognized someone. Ro'or accepted her hand, bending to kiss it though his dilating eyes still remained locked with her own. "Lady Riordan," he greeted with a predatory grin, "I must say you look lovely in red. Shall we?" He motioned to the seating, waiting long enough for her to get comfortable before he likewise reclined back into his seat. His whole body language screamed sleeping predator, completely comfortable but ready to pounce on the next breath.

"Lady Kailinna here was just telling me that you were running a bit behind schedule today. I'm sure your people keep you very busy," he purred, taking in her freshly washed and sweet smelling hair as well as her exposed collarbones. There was no doubt in his mind now that she had been entertaining another gentleman before seeing him.

"My trip was well, thank you. I had the opportunity to visit an old acquaintance at his winter home before journeying further. Speaking of which, Lady Dvorak bade me to extend her best wishes from Tirial. She hopes the winter weather has not been too harsh for you all here in Northwatch."

With the way Eyla observed Ro'or studying her there was no doubt in her mind that he recognized her. Her jaw clenched as she forced a polite smile, his every insinuation and suggestion heard exactly for what they were. She prayed her sister would be oblivious or, at worst, not draw attention to what was happening in their parlor.

Eyla bowed her head slightly in thanks even as her eyes continued to burn angrily at the man across from her. She took a shaky breath, forcing herself to relax, to not raise any suspicion in her sister if she started acting odd in front of a man that should have been a stranger to them. "You must send her my thanks for her kind thoughts. There's been quite a lot of snow but nothing our people aren't equipped to handle," she assured him evenly, slowly dragging her leg down off her knee to rest her legs squarely in front of herself.

"I apologize for my...tardiness," she continued, though she really didn't feel she owed him any sort of apology for needing a few extra minutes to herself in her own home. Truly she was a little annoyed her sister would go so far as to say something in front of a guest that might be damaging. It wasn't like her be so careless. "I normally am quite busy but nothing kept me from welcoming you personally but my own poor planning. I assure you you are my highest priority during your stay with us."

At that she turned her head and nudged at Kai's arm while gesturing at the door. "Thank you for your assistance, Kai. I'll see you this evening," she dismissed her gently, not wanting to demand it but knowing her sister knew her presence was not always welcome when province business was concerned.

The younger Riordan sister rose from her seat with an understanding nod and smile, bowing her head slightly to Ro'or. "Perhaps we can talk more at dinner," she bid him with a small wave as she turned to leave, completely oblivious to the way her sister was staring her down until she exited and the door was shut behind her.

With a weary exhale Eyla dropped the forced smile, a thoughtful pout taking up residence instead as she studied Ro'or. "What you saw before is not a welcome topic in this house," she told him firmly, scowling as she gestured at the empty space around them and arching a brow pointedly, "But that should go without saying, hm?"

GoblinFae

"Indeed?" Ro'or commented, his mind already made up as to what she had poorly planned. "I would expect no less than the best from the High Lady herself," he continued with a knowing smirk. It was obvious to him that the innocent little Lady Kailinna had no idea what to her precious big sister was up to and that Eyla wished it to remain that way. It was also evident to Ro'or that the girl was oblivious to all the innuendos he was casting about which was all the better for him as he toyed with his mouse.

Standing and bowing back to Kailinna, he bade the woman a good day, sitting once more only once she had gone. "It isn't," he feigned with a look of pure innocence. "You mean to tell me your beautiful little sister isn't privy to such a lifestyle? A pity, I'm sure she would make more than you with her smiles. Not of course that either of you are hurting for coin."

Leaning back in his seat so that he was draped like a king in his throne, Ro'or eyed the High Lady sternly. "Tell me then your Ladyship, what price will you pay for my silence? What do you have that that would interest me enough to conveniently forget to mention this beyond this room?"
