It was a mighty blow to his army to have to remove General Krah  Mordeth; a man who, for many years, raised hell against all opposition throughout Connlaoth. And while not all of his tactics were completely to Grand Duke Allarrick's taste, General Krah had become famous in his own right, and had won countless victories (never mind the causalities suffered on either side).

Krah had been a brutal man, but practical in his own ogre-ish sort of way. He was a war monger, and thrived on blood lust, this much he knew. But Krah was also a man who was high on his vanity, and it was this image, this fame brought about from the war the Grand Duke easily capitalized on- but he should have seen his failings.

Krah was wild like a bull, untamabale and it was no real surprise when he heard about the General speaking out against him. Naturally, he was in no position (nor had no desire) to ignore such a high ranking military man who would outwardly chastise the crown. He was also called out on abandoning his post; all during the great battle where the Matron bridge had collapsed.

If it were not for his fame and years at service, Calent would have easily put this dog to rest. But now the General, his main war time General, was off on a path of 'redemption' with a knight of the white lily- and from his reports...
Things were not going quite as planned.

But there was no room nor time to wait for him to come back. This war was happening now. Thank God he had more than one potential to help lead. For now, he was focusing on the most promising adhara to rise from the ranks. The woman showed much potential throughout her victories, and though she herself was a woman, by all standards, that alone should make him reconsider, he would never reconsider a woman that was a mordecai, let alone an adhara. Though he knew the adhara would remain loyal to the church, perhaps that is why he knew she was the right choice.

All White Lily's, be they under Ansgar's Hand, or other wise, had a code of ethics to follow, and he knew by this, and her reputation, she was easily one to trust with such a large mass of infintry. The only problem was, the men she'd be commanding were used to a ruthless, boar of a man like Krah. But if she could not handle this, he knew not who else to send.

He had another man in training to lead, a tactician who was too knee deep in the war for him to contact his proposal. Hakon was at the right place at the right time, and far more easy to summon, and would need little to no training for her smooth transition.

So there he waited in his palace, having sent the letter and it was already confirmed- the adhara would be at the palace within the hour, and she would be made the first woman general beneath his order.

The gentle sway and bob of Purgatorio's churning legs under his great body was both a comfort and relief to Major Hakon Kilandre's mind. Her eyes  remain closed as the pair steadily approached the Duke's hulking palace that dominated the beautiful city of Reajh. She focused upon the vibrations of each hoof striking the cobblestone, the wind causing her white-blonde locks to shift over her shoulder and. Cling to her cheeks. It was a warm day, one she would have spent drilling Ansgar's Hand mercilessly then allowed the men and woman of her unit an afternoon of rest and nonsense. Alas, she would not be there to observe this vaguely seasonal period of acivity.

Again, she opened her eyes, hazel-grey gaze flickering toward the gates protecting the massive abode. Pulling the Theocog to a stop, she addressed the guards who held halberds crossed before her path. She could feel Purgatorio's flanks heaving more excitedly, preparing for combat- yet a gentle touch upon his exposed withers caused the stallion to calm and fall silent but for a defiant toss of his head.

" Major Hakon Kilandre, reporting to the Grand Duke per invitation-" shuffling through her bodice, she located the crisp, white paper that held her orders. It was strange how words of ink could hold so much more power then she could ever hope to accumulate. She hands it down to the first guard, being forced to lean downward as she offers it to him. She ignores his eyes lingering upon her chest a moment too long, straightening again as he reads out the letter- reaching upward to adjust the pendant upon her cloak to do a better job of concealing her womanly attributes.

Seeming to be confused, impressed and simultaneously uncertain, the man allows her to pass, both Theocog and rider entering the courtyards of the Palace at a steady, relaxed gait.

Within a half hour, having ensured her dear companion was settled within the Royal stables. The Major moved down the great marble hallways, escorted by a prim man servant who reminded her of a weasel too proud upon its finding of a shiny spoon or something similiar. Carefully, she folded her hands in the small of her back as she was escorted to a pair of double doors- carved ornately with scenes of a moot of yore. Kings, ladies, warriors gathered within the wooden grain to speak of troubles and delights which one could only hope to imagine as they feasted upon a beast at a long table.

The Major was distracted and taken by this incredible carving, barely noticing the weasel-like man knocking upon the thick wood. His sharp knuckles wrapping out a specific rhythm for those within.

The knock came as expected. He just hoped it was the major. His green eyes went towards the door as he commanded, "Who is it?"

The weasly servant beside the pretty major grinned beneath his nose.
"Your grace, Major Kilandre is here."

"You may let her in."

The servant's eyes lit up as he moved to grasp the door, pushing the great doors open and swooping his hands down for the lady.

"The Grand Duke awaits."

Hakon Kilandre entered the room, her eyes fixing upon the Grand Duke immediately as she stands at a parade rest near the door. This was the first she had ever been in such a proximity from the Duke in all her years of service, and a monsoon of emotion swept through her in that moment. She, her men, her women, her brother and sister in arms had commited atrocity after atrocity in his name. She had lowered herself to such depths in the belief that Mages were all evil because to believe ptherwise would stop hwr blade from falling. Hakon Kilandre hated this man before her with such a passion that it could light the fires of this cpaital for a thousand years to come, but alas... Alas... The factory that gained her such recognition came into play as the young woman knelt- pressing one knee to the floor, crossing her hand over her heart and bowing her head deeply.

Loyalty.

" Grand Duke," Her voice remained, low, gravely in its greeting. Shedding no warmth but conveying the correct amount of respect. Hazel-grey eyes flicker upward to fix upon his face, at such close proximity, she could make out lines of fatigue, of age - of a man who feels the effects of lifeamd country baring down upon him.

visualspice

Scrutiny worked both ways. The meeting was more or less for the Grand Duke to get to know this woman better; who had done so much for the country during these times of war, and he had met only but once so many years ago. Sure, he might have briefly passed by her garrison or charges at some point in time, but he- he who commanded all of Connlaoth and the mass armies who bled in his name, had not ever formally met with this woman.

It seemed many fine women had come out from the battles- surely a rare thing for Connlaoth and its history. But he did not hesitate in the way he addressed her, treated her like any other fighter, as all mordecai and adhara ought be done. So he gestured towards her as he approached.

"Thank you for prompt reply. I know the war keeps all of my military occupied."

At such close proximity, the scars on his face were ever present- a clear cut reminder of what happened to the last Grand Duke, a nd what nearly happened to him.

Straightening, Hakon Kilandre moves forward, approaching the desk before standing at a parade rest before him- hazel-grey eyes fixed upon the Grand Duke, unmoved, only the vaguest glitter actually giving the woman the visage of life, light," I am currently on leave from the front lines in order to gather and train more men and women for Ansgar's Hand- We are doing well in terms of casualties... But men with years of training can only be replaced so quickly,"

Folding her hands in the gentle swoop of her back, she gently tilts her head to one side, gazing upon him," Your desire is my command, Grand Duke, I am your sword and shield." She pauses before continuing shortly," What do you will of me, sir?" A straight platinum lock fell before her eye, cutting through her iris like a blade of white light. She disliked theatrics, but her words were the truth- though she was not directly his possession, she, in fact, belonged to him, the Grand Duke, the country. Oh how Daemion would be pleased to know how emotionless the Duke seemed- well... If Daemion could be pleased by anything.

visualspice

The Grand Duke remained even and composed.
"The casualties of the war has touched many, and with it, even I find myself losing many good men, good leaders, because of it. So far, the army has been doing quite well, even with a reduced number of Generals... But now, I see the importance to add more highly trained Generals to the front."

He studied her carefully, especially on her face, to see how she might react but he could only expect it might be the same as the rest. But he new the captain was different. She was, after all, a woman.

"I have looked through countless resumes of all of the best of my military, and I believe, through our conquests, Captain, that it would only honor me if you accepted the position as a General for my army, one that would be incoperation with your current, Ansgar's Hand, and also be a force to coordinate with all the armies south of Reajh."

The desire to correct her rank was outstanding, alas, his offer caused the Major to bite her tongue. Her eyes, though tired and stony- widened a fraction, even her pupils seemed to dilate slightly. Was this perhaps some sort of... Apology? Essentially excepting this position would mean she was directly cut off from being the Grand Master of the Mordecai, her ultimate goal - never had one been both General and Grandmaster, so she doubted it would change now. Her gaze searched the Grand Duke's hands upon his desk, slowly making sense of the thoughts rushing through her head. She would be only one of two women in the country's history to take the role of a General. Incredible.

If - of course - she accepted.

Carefully, she focused back upon his face, furrowing her brow inquisitively," If I may, Grand Duke- are not the majority of the Civil War's battles moving North?" She tilted her head, if this was true, she would be dealing mainly with the people in bulk rather then the enemy. She knew with ease, her cousin, the Duke of Vythe would happily (well.... Stonily) assist her to the best of his ability in exchange for access to contracts regarding weaponry... Once again, she focuses upon his face, noting the scars, the fatigue and something... Deeply imbedded in his eyes, his soul she could relate to. What was it? What did he lose that she had lost too!

visualspice

"Yes, but there has been much unease on the home front. And this is not to say you'd remain south. Just the armies who had been stationed south and come from the southern duchies," he informed, his eyes never once leaving hers. Let her try to read him. He stared at too many faces to remember them all.

She nods carefully, looking aside for a moment, out the great arching wind that offered a great pool of sunlight into the room. Autumn was here, winter's nip upon the winds blowing from the great North. Exhaling through her nose, she nods," I accept your offer, Grand Duke," she speaks at last, focusing upon him for a moment before extending her hand, to shake his.

" If I am to take this position, my Lord, I would like to know you more, sir," she pauses, furrowing her brow slightly," It is difficult to be particularly passionate of a position with little idea of whom I will be serving so closely."

visualspice

The Grand Duke nodded. He could respect that.
"Although time is of the essence, I respect your request. If you'd like to remain as my guest throughout the week, it is what I can afford. But I need a General, and one would do me little good within my own home."
No, he had Zannrick for that.

" Sir Zannerick Austengarde I am sure is adequate enough company, but I personally would like to take it upon myself to learn of you, sir," She answers quietly, tilting her head gently to one side as she straightens and folds her hands behind her back. How would one make small talk with a Grand Duke? She was almost certain he could give a damn about that sort of nonsense...

Nonetheless, she tried," Sir, if I may- what is your preferred passtime, when you have the chance?"

Calent blinked at her, but regarded her question before giving an even nod.
"Hunting used to be a favorite past time. I suppose my earlier years in the throne I could indulge more moderately on the sport. And my daughter..." He knew he should pay more attention. "I try to make the time, now that the grand Duchess has passed, to ensure she grows up respectfully." He paused to think. "And music." Though he always made time for that.and he was a well known musician after all.
