The woman who sauntered down the street was not pretty enough to  earn lingering glances from folk, nor was she wealthy enough to attract attention. Instead, most gave her the shortest of glances, their eyes barely registering her form before they flicked to someone else. Yet despite this seeming disinterest, the people still took an involuntary step or two away, subconsciously responding to the confident haughteur that hung on the woman like a cloak. It was a subtle movement away, but it left her room to stride freely without being bumped into or having her toes stepped on, something she chose to see as a courtesy.

Her amber eyes glinted with surpressed amusement, their shade uncannily close to the color of a hawk's stare or a wolf's unwavering gaze. Her dark hair had been pulled back severely, twisted into a short, fat braid and tied with a leather thong. Her clothing was sensible, if a bit worn; a dark blue blousy shirt tucked neatly into loose, dark gray pants, which in turn were tucked into soft black leather boots. Her belt was plain; a large hunting knife hung by her right hip, an enlarged portion of leather in front of her left hip was evidently where she kept her coins.

Pausing for a moment, she glanced up at the buildings nearby, studying them closely, a faint frown appearing on her lips. Were she to set up operations in this city, she needed  a proper place to live -especially when once considered her, ah, gift.

Calling up her considerable charm, the woman paced over to a vendor, a brilliant smile on her face. Engaging the vendor in a friendly dialogue, the woman purchased a hot meat pie, infective laughter bubbling forth at an especially witty comment. Thanking the seller, she strode some distance down the street, then leaned up against the side of a building and began to munch, eyeing the passerby.

She needed to make the aquaintance of someone who could tell her what she needed to know -where the unsavory part of town was, what the various inns were like and where they were located, etc. She was quite sure that the right personage would come along in time, it was simply a matter of recognising them when they passed.
