The clearing was almost picturesque in its beauty, with the lush green grass, sun-warmed rocks, and the dotting of soft white flowers. Among the rocks, there was a glimmer of black scales that caught the sunlight as they shifted. A rather large and power-looking naga was nestled in amongst the rocks, basking in the warm sunlight, the remains of the unfortunate rabbit that was his meal discarded in an almost neat pile beside him. The black scales of the naga's tail glimmered again as he shifted, licking the blood from his claws in an almost leisurely manner, his golden eyes half-lidded with the satisfaction of having eaten a rather tasty meal. His upper, human, half appeared to be that of a fit man in his late twenties, if his human face was anything to go by.

His name was Kishan, and it suited him well. 'Black' would definitely be the word to describe the naga, with his dark tan skin that was stretched over strong and defined muscles, black scales that glittered on a thick and powerful looking tail, and black hair that looked to be decorated with bones of small animals that clicked together softly when he moved. He wore a necklace that appeared to be crudely made with animal teeth that rested against his collar bone. His torso was criss crossed with many scars; a sign of the many fights that he has fought and, more importantly, won; that healed slightly lighter than the rest of his skin.

Kishan stretched with a yawn and settled back down among the rocks, willing to take a short nap in the sun before heading back to his den.

It had been about a week since Itaaski had last eaten, and hunger was just beginning to gnaw at his stomach. It was not real hunger yet; not painful or nagging, just the feeling that sometime soon he should go hunting. But Itaaski wasn’t interested in huntingâ€"or at least he wasn’t interested in hunting for food, just yet. Right now he was hunting for pelts, for his livelihood. It was too bad he didn’t eat the meat cooked, but he left it to be eaten by other animalsâ€"so long as he took the parts of it that humans would trade him things for. Personally, Itaaski had little use for pelts other than for sleeping on and keeping the night chill out, but the humans liked to buy them from him for useful things, like knives and such. Other animals of the forest benefited from his hunting as well, getting what was essentially a free meal out of it.

But he’d been following a large jaguar-like animal for a time, getting ready to attack, when the scent of something alarming caught his attention, and he turned his face towards the wind without a second thought, tongue moving in and out of his mouth rapidly to taste the air and try and figure out what exactly it was that he was smelling. He could smell fresh blood as well as old, dried blood, and there was the unmistakable scent of predator…and something was telling him that this predator was a danger even to him, which did not happen very often. But there was something strange about the scent, and though it provoked wariness it also provoked curiosity.

Forgetting his prey, Itaaski turned towards the smell and hastened towards it, moving swiftly and easily through the woods, making little sound. The reptile traveled swiftly at first but then slowed his pace as he neared the other predator, slowing to the point where he could move silently and use his patterned scales as camouflage to blend in with the foliage he was moving among. It soon became clear that there was a clearing in the trees up ahead, and he paused when he neared it, crouching silently behind a bush, his tail held out behind him, the end wrapped around a thick branch, some instinct calling for the false security.

He crept forward slowly, almost slithering along the ground under the bush to get a good view of whatever it was that he knewâ€"he could sense the heat signature it gave off, even though it was almost at the same temperature the air was atâ€"was out there. Whatever it was, it was big. Really big. He moved forward just a little bit more, and then could seeâ€"his eyes would have widened if they were not already nearly entirely circularâ€"it was truly enormous. It was also like himâ€"sort of. Not exactly, but…it was the only reptile-humanoid he’d ever seen before besides himself, and Itaaski wasn’t about to be picky.

Though he would like to go out and meet the…well…whatever he was, instincts called for caution, and he held back, just observing for a time, before deciding that it was probably safe. Basking, after all, is an extremely relaxing activity, and so Itaaski figured that the half-human, half-snake creature would be less likely to attack him in such an instance. So thinking, he carefully withdrew from the bush and made his way around a tree, stepping out into the clearing some fifteen feet from where the naga was reclining among the rocks.

Itaaski was a fairly good contrast to the naga; he was fairly light, with non-melanistic pigmentation and a wide variety of colors, ranging from small spots of black to browns, golds, oranges, and a few touches of green. He was muchâ€"muchâ€"smaller than the eighteen foot long naga, and had a more humanoid figure, with legs as well as arms, and a tail. He was scaled all over his body, and his facial features were more snakelike than those of the Naga. He was slighter in build, but no less muscular; he wore only a pair of shorts for decency, and his musculature was plainly visible, rippling beneath his scales. He was rather more clean than the naga as well, adorned with no blood or bones. Overall, tail included he was only about 10 feet long to the Naga’s 18â€"and was probably more fast because of the size difference.

He stepped forward, letting his tail slide over the grass to make some noise and announce his presence, pausing then looking towards the Naga and waiting for him to react. In this situation, he’d decided it’s a better idea to let the other make the first move, to prevent any unfortunate (for him!) misunderstandings that might result in injury or death.</font>

There he was.

Okogo had been mindlessly following this reptilian man for quite some time now. Idiodically, he had first thought that the reptile had been playing a game of follow the leader with a large cat. Of course, he then realized after a while that the reptile clearly wanted to eat the poor feline. Oh, well. No skin off his back, right?

For safety reasons, however, he pulled out his knife...as if it would protect him against this monster.

Okogo was just about to yank on the monster's tail for attention--Okogo the Actor can't go too long without being acknowledged, after all!--when the reptile turned its head, flicked its tongue out, and changed its course. Well. That's interesting. Okogo followed to find another one of these...reptile people enjoying the afternoon beauty.

Okogo stood behind a large bushel of a purplish-red berries and watched as the reptile he'd been watching watch the new reptile. Well. This was boring.

Without a second thought, he popped out of the bushes, berries, leaves and sticks flying everywhere, arms akimbo, a very confident, twinkly smile on his face. His brash necklaces and large bracelets--one on each wrist--shone brilliantly as they moved about in the sunlight. "HERE I AM! You may rain down your praises and affections upon me now." Of course, in his left hand--yes, he was a lefty!--shone the bright knife, his trusty Chester. Okogo may have been rash, but he wasn't...too stupid.

((Oh ho ho, this will be fun!))

Kishan was not amused. There were two people in his basking area. The first one he did not mind so much. The reptilian, while poisonous, was quiet and subdued, obviously taking care to not disturb Kishan's basking while letting the naga know he was there, which Kishan appreciated, and thus, discarded him as an immediate threat. Unlike the idiot following the reptilian, who burst out of the brush, and startled Kishan, so Kishan did the only logical thing he could think of. He lunged forward at a frightening speed towards the flashing human and brought himself up to his almost full height, hissing and baring fangs that were more like a cat's than a snake's.

Maybe the human will leave the shiny things and go away?

Itaaski was quite relieved when the naga didn’t seem to be bothered by his presence, and relaxed quite a bit. He was just taking a few steps into the clearing when a berry bush seemed to explode not far away. Itaaski hissed loudly and spun to face the ‘explosion’, getting hit by a twig in the process, and realized a second later that it was only a human. A very stupid human, at that. A very stupid human who was about to be killed, he saw as the naga lunged forward.

Itaaski, very much wishing to prevent any violence or deathâ€"and he seriously doubted the knife the human was holding would do anything to the large reptileâ€"leapt forward with equal speed, his tail moving quickly and wrapping around the human’s torso, pushing him away while he placed himself in between the two. “Ssstop!â€? He held out a hand in a ‘stop’ motion, although he knew that wouldn’t really do anything if it came right down to it, and released his grip on the human with his tail, half-crouching in preparation of fight or flight (flight, most likely!) in case the naga didn’t stop.

Stupid human.

Kishan tilted his head, bones clicking as his hair moved. The reptilian was standing between Kishan and the shiny human and saying something that Kishan didn't understand, though it's body language suggested that he was trying to protect the human.

Kishan growled, but settled down. The human wasn't even a threat, just loud and annoying. Maybe if the reptilian thought Kishan would not attack the human, he would get out of the way, and the Kishan could take the human's shinies.

And maybe eat him out of spite for disturbing his basking.

The first thoughts that went through Okogo's mind were quite jumbled and confused wen the naga began to lunge. However, the most audible and comrehendable thought he had was: Oh, crap.

He held up his left hand as if to let the naga pierce itself by running into his knife. Before he knew it, he saw the other reptilian being thundering his way as well. Not knowing where to turn, he just stood there, blinking his big brown eyes at the two. Oh, crap, crap!

He shut his eyes right as the one he had been trailing reached him and felt something wrapping around him. A tongue?! A tongue!...He never bothered opening his eyes to see. "AAH! Goodbye, my beautiful world! I hardly knew ye! Oh, woe is the very day I--!"

"Ssstop!"

Seriously?

Okogo peeked cautiously a them with one eye. He had been moved back quite a ways, positioned behind both reptiles. Opening his other eye, he noticed that there was going to be a major collision--either this was going to be really bad, or really funny.

Itaaski watched the naga tensely for a moment, ignoring the dramatics of the human behind himâ€"was he mentally incompetent?â€"for the moment, and then slowly, slowly relaxed when he settled down. The reptile dropped his hand to his side, and straightened up slowly, still watching the reptile closely. The human finally seemed to have fallen silent, and he turned to him, giving the human a dirty look. “Would you quiet down?! If you hadn’t been ssso loud, he probably wouldn’t have wanted to attack!â€? To be honest, Itaaski had been fairly close to attacking, and had the human been any closer when he’d exploded from the bushes, he probably would’ve gotten smacked with a tail.

He then turned back to the naga, staring at him for a moment, not really sure what to do now. “Ahh…hello. Well, that had been stupid.

((sorry for the delay, was doing laundry.))

((S'ok. You might wanna get used to two-eight day delays, though. 'Cause that's how we roll in SotE XD))

Okogo laughed heartily at the reptile's anger. "Oh, my snake-like friend." And then, with an attention deficit disorder-like air, he looked around at the crushed berries and destroyed berry bush. He turned back to the two reptiles and strode forward to the one who had spoken.

With evey syllable, he made an unnecessary, cheesy pose. Hey, Okogo wasn't the type to restrain himself. "I am Oh-ko-GO!" He nodded and began fiddling with a necklace that was resting on his neck incorrectly. "Who are you two fellas?"

Yeesh. He acted like nothing had even happened.

Kishan tilted his head again before picking up the human with his tail and inspecting him, poking at the man's gaudy jewelry.

"Ssssssssshiniesssssssss." He hissed softly. He wanted to add them to his collection.

Itaaski stared at the human, whose name was apparently Okogo. He stared mainly because the only options he had were stare or laugh, and Itaaski liked to be polite. But this…this was just sad. Perhaps a little bit frightening, he mused; where had the human learned to be so…overdramatic? It was like watching a musical play.

A low-quality one.

Once he finished staring at Okogo like he had two heads, Itaaski replied. “I’m Itaaasssski. Pleassssed to meet you…? He wasn’t entirely sure whether or not he WAS pleased to meet Okogo, actually. The human was rather unusual, after all. Itaaski had never dealt with anyone like him before.

He stepped aside when the dark tail moved towards Okogo, watching with interest as it coiled around the human and lifted him up, smiling a little, inadvertently showing his mouthful of shiny, sharp pearly-whites, and stepped forward, examining the shinies himself. They were indeed very nice….he looked at the Naga, only then wondering if his speech was limited. “What’ssss your name?

Kishan blinked down at the other reptilian, "You Itaassssssake." He repeated, before nodding and returning his attention to investigating the human, Okogo's, jewelry, "You Okogo. I Kissssshan." He said shortly, as if annoyed to be distracted fro his task of attempting to remove Okogo's jewelry.

Proceeding to scream in short, staccato bits, Okogo pushed at Kishan's tail. "No! My shinies! You can't have them. They were gifts from girls back home." His eyes glazed over and his smile turned comically warm, apparently thinking about the girls in French maid outfits he had met one night with his special buddy, Jyn.

Jyn--home--French maids? Where was he?? He looked around and stared. Woods. And lots of it. He slowly began his panic, shaking one fist, and then the other. "Wh--" Without explaining further, he let out a high-pitched scream.

Jyn would be ashamed--even he attempts to feign bravery. No wonder he was only the Gofer in the Sagarian Gang.

Itaaski smiled at Kishan, pleased that he could speakâ€"and gathering that he couldn’t speak very well. Probably didn’t interact with people very often.

It was official. This human was completely and totally insane. Itaaski was kind or amused, but mostly just freaked out. It was mind boggling how random he was, and how absentminded he seemed to be. The guy didn’t seem bothered by the fact that he was being held up by an eighteen foot Naga decorated with bones and blood; no, he seemed more worried about loosing his ‘shinies’.

His randomness reasserted itself; Itaaski cringed away from the sudden, high pitched scream, covering his ears with his hands and recoiling as though from a physical blow. What the hell!?!? Why was he screaming?!?!

Wasn’t it a bit belated for him to only just now realize he was being held by a giant snake tail?

Kishan hissed and tossed Okogo as far from him as he could, and considering how strong he was, the smaller man was flung to the other side of the clearing and into the trees beyond. Kishan whirled in Itaaski and growled, low and dangerous in his throat.

Anonymous

Okogo continued to scream as he sailed high over the trees and...into an elm. The impact knocked all of the wind out of him and sent him reeling towards the ground. He still tried to scream, although there was no air left for the unexplained action.

He finally fell onto the earth, thankful he had no broken bones. He caught his breath in raspy gasps, wondering what he had done wrong before passing out.

Itaaski watched with wide, astonished eyes as Kishan threw Okogo across the clearingâ€"higher than the trees!! The human kept up the impossibly loud, high-pitched scream the whole way, at least until he passed out. Itaaski had never seen such a display of physical strength before, and stared in blank shock towards where the human had hit the ground.

He didn’t notice Kishan rounding on him until a low growl sounded beside him, and he turned, realizing that he may very well be in danger. Inhales sharply, watching Kishan warily and speaking in a soothing voice. “Hey, now, you don’t need to attack me. I’m not going to do anything wrong…and look, you can…take hissss sssshinieesssss now?â€? He’s nervous, but doesn’t want to back up or make any moves that would for a human be placatingâ€"worried that they may be mistaken for aggressionâ€"and then there is also the fear of being seen as weak, and that, too, would be a dangerous thing.

Kishan bared his teeth at Itaaski, before slithering towards Okogo's prone form and taking some of the pieces of jewelry from his body , then heading back to where he had had his meal and collecting the bones of the rabbit, leaving the fur behind as he disappeared into the trees, growling low and angry the whole time.

Itaaski watched tensely as Kishan went over to Okogo’s limp body and looted it, not moving for fear of making Kishan any more angry than he already was, relaxing finally after he was certain that the naga was gone, and made his way over to Okogo. Stands over him, looking down at the humanâ€"doesn’t want to rescue the guy because of his altogether strange personality, but sighs and bends down, picking him up easily anyways. He mutters to the unconscious body in his arms, “Sssomething tellsss me you’re more trouble than you’re worth,â€?
