Walking on the shore of the large island Maki only had one thing on her mind. It was her village, she had memories of there that were very clear and she did often think about it when she was alone. She did miss it very much but throughout her travels she never got a word of where it might be nor did she find it. As the ocean tides swerved up and down the beach line and the sun shone through the sky Maki couldn't help but bring a memory up. It was when she was very little and playing with a couple of her friends in the forest, one of her friends: shoji had gotten lost while they were playing hide and seek or at least Maki and the others couldn't find him. When they did Shoji was right by the village up in a tree, it had made her other friends mad that they were so worried about him Maki just smiled and laughed Shoji began to laugh to, she had known where he was the whole time because they made a plan the day before so they could trick the others. They didn't take it was a joke though and left, Shoji and Maki were best friends and almost inseparable but since the day she left and gotten lost she hadn't seen him since. She snapped back into reality and saw that she was nearing a village, Maki shrugged and sat down in the sand just relaxing from a long trip and just stared out into the ocean, she thought it was beautiful and wondered how long she could stare at it. "Probably forever if it lasts like this" she mentioned to herself.

The quiet sound of an arrow swishing through the ended with a soft thunk as it dug it self into a tree trunk. Shou smiled in satisfaction, seeing she had marked her target perfectly.

Usually she would aim between trees and let the arrow hit the earth, or use rocks and boulders as a target(it didn't hurt them so much), but occasionally trees would ask her to use them as a target. Some thought of it as training, some thought of it to get out of their mental pain. In this case, the tree was a very bold one and often asked her to do so. She did not understand how it trained them, but she was never told and she never asked; trees had their secrets.

Shou looked up at the sun and decided it was time to be on the way. She thanked the tree, and lightly jumped up on some branches. She moved her way through the forest by hopping from branch to branch, saying a hello here and there with a big smile.

She was heading to the beach, for she had promised the youngsters of the tribe she would gather them seashells for play. Recently, wild beasts were more vicious than usual so the tribe had refused to let children out of sight, permitting only grown warriors to leave the village. Shou wasn't really a grown warrior, but she, being able to fend herself against enemies, was one of the young folk allowed to go out.

She took a big jump, twirled about three times in the air and landed on the sandy beach. The sand was hot on her feet so she skipped to the water's edge, keeping her eyes open for any kind of seashell. It wasn't too hard to find them but she only picked up the most perfect ones, she couldn't disappoint the children, could she?

The leaf pouch around her waist had slowly begun to fill up when she spotted someone sitting in the sand. Her good eyesight caught that the someone was not human, which perked her interest even more. She rarely met species other than humans on the islands.

The someone looked as if they were in their own world so Shou took her time walking across the beach, the only difference being that she was more focused on the someone  than shells. This person would be going to the village, wouldn't she? Shou felt the responsibility to safely escort this strange white haired person as a inhabitant of the forest. There were always unkind beasts roaming around who'd do nothing to stop from eating visitors.

"Hello!" Shou said brightly, bowing. "Nice day isn't it?"

Maki's thoughts her inturrupted by the sound of someones voice. She looked over at the stranger and smiled, "oh hi!" she said to the person with a smile "and its a very nice day today." Maki didn't know if the person was a threat or not since she had heard that these islands had many roaming predetars in the forest but she took her chances. She stood up and brushed herself off of any sand, "I'm Maki, who are you?" she asked the stranger with a polite tone of voice.

Shou had seemed to have completely interrupted the someone's thoughts and a wave a guiltiness hit her making her emerald green eyes dart around for a few seconds. But the stranger smiled, so she hoped it was ok.

Shou looked up and up as the stranger stood. Even when, Maki, hadn't the stranger said, had been sitting down she had been about the same height as Shou. This made Maki very tall in Shou's opinion.

Shou smiled brightly in return.
"Nice to meet you, Ms. Maki! My name is Shou and I live around here."
While Maki's spoke quite polite, Shou herself spoke in a tone as if they had been talking for hours. Perhaps it was a habit from rarely talking to people she wasn't associated with.

Lorid flew through the trees, quickly, and with a grace that seemed strange for a creature such as he was. He stopped his movement by the beach, and began to hiss at the two figures there. He could see no reason for their tresspassing, as they were well in the boundaries of the Quisa tribe. He raced down, and flew around the duo. "Who are you, and why do you tresspass onto the lands of the Quisa?" He landed, and roared, as if making a point. Over his shoulder, several more roars accompanied him, and he made what could best be interpreted as a grin.

Shou turned immediately at the sound of hissing and smiled brightly at the figure who was now standing behind them. "Hullo! I'm sorry, Mr. Coatl, I never knew we were in your territory. Splendid roars, ne?"
She cocked her head to one side. It was strange she hadn't known of it, because she was pretty sure she knew the Isles by heart.

"Please don't hiss, we mean no harm." Or at least I don't, she thought. She wasn't sure of  Ms. Maki, but the cat eared person seemed quite friendly. "I was collecting seashells," the small elf added, realizing she had not replied to the Coatl's question. "And you should let some people through your territory y'know, it's not just yours."
She knew she was being perky, but risked it anyway. She wanted to know about the tribe about this angered Coatl. If they had just arrived on the Isles and they were hissing about territories, that was not right. If they had been here a long time, she wanted to know how they had escaped her attention as a habitant of the Yoreiq Isles.

((From Hokkaido, eh? How's the Hokkaido White "Lover's" Chocolate? God, it is good!))

For a moment, Lorid looked stunned. "You...you...know I am a Coatl?" He shook his head, and said, "I am one of the Coatl! It is nigh impossible to find us if we do not want to be found. That is why you could not find us before." He scowled at the group, and said, "Before, this entire chain of islands was ours, but your people came, and stole most of it from us. Most of our civilization is on the deserted island of Ferei.  We demand to keep our portion of the island." He drew breath, and continued. "Why should we let others onto our territory? They are sure to steal it when our backs are turned. Already, there are many trying to take our land. No more will this atrocity go unpunished."

((OoC: Oh, great I just wrote a long post and for some reason it got all erased :/

Yup! They had some sort of problem because they lied about the 'use by date' (they're fussy about it in Japan) but I believe they're up and running again. I agree, they are good ^^))

"It was just a guess." Shou said smiling sweetly. It was good to know that she was correct. She was very glad that she had not called him 'snake' as she had first intended. He didn't seem to be the sort that'd tolerate that. "I had heard of you folks before. Just the species."

She sighed and rolled her eyes as she listened to his heated speech.
"Mr. Coatl, first of all, the folks you are talking about are probably humans and I'm NOT human. Second, my tribe has lived in the islands for years and years, and there is no record of ever fighting to gain the land (except for with the Sparshin but that's a different story) and there is also no record of living somewhere else. Maybe we lived under the control of the great roarers"-she implied him and his tribe- "but I doubt that. Anyway, if we had 'stole' your land, all you folks had to do was talk to us, and we'd have 'given' most of it back or at least made a promise of some sort. Didn't consider that, did you? Fourth, you probably have a better chance of keeping your land if you're nicer in general. Most of the folks that live here are comparably nice, from what I hear. They may act better if you make a pact with them or something." She shrugged. "Fifth, there's a village over there. I suppose that's your territory too? How do expect us to get there without passing by here?" She would have gone on for a sixth and a seventh and most likely a lot more, but she shut up for the Coatl's sake.

"Look, Mr. Coatl, we didn't know it's your territory, that can't be helped. You said yourself that you don't want to be found, or it sure sounded like it. We don't mean any harm so you should rightfully leave us alone, ne?" Shou was smiling brightly still, though it was a little dim compared to the first one. It was hard to tell whether she was making fun of them or not. She was looking forward to how he would react. Fight? Sure, she wouldn't lose, not to a couple of Coatl. She couldn't lose to anyone, not now, not until...
Not until she was able to touch her goal, the one that was such an impossibly high wall.

"Would your tribe write records of something so dishonorable as to call down the gods to slay us and take our land? Besides, most people would fire at us, as much harm as it would do." He scowled, and looked up, surprised. "What village? You mean the one behind me? That one was abandoned last leaf-bare, and we found it. Apparently, there was a rampage of Wraiths." He shuddered, and said, "Nasty creatures, Wraiths." He snarled, and said, "What proof do I have that you don't have evil intentions? Only your word, and seeing who is comes from, not very worthy."

hikaru.dream

"Okay okay. We did it, whatever. Think whacha want, dear." She shrugged. Shou could tell that there was no use arguing with this creature, he didn't even seem to want to try to listen. Considering that the way he thought, his tribe sure wouldn't live long, she mused. Being offensive was not the best way to live in peace. Got thrown out by her tribe? She doubted it. Perhaps if he showed he had ears, she would explain the elves history to him.
"Anyways," she said. "It's very immature of you to start howling about simply trespassing on your property and saying I'm going to take your land. I'm not going to ask you to think about why I would try to take your land, you don't seem to understand things. I don't live on the main island, ya know, just for your information. I bet you don't know where we live." She smiled, but she was really beginning to get pissed off. "If you're going to screech about more histories and territories, please go away. And no, not that village behind us, the one that's very active and called Ainu."

"I wouldn't mind hearing what you have to say otherwise," she added. "But no tribal matters, ne."

Anonymous

Ainu...where did he hear that name before? He was puzzled, something that did not happen often. "Let me think...Ainu..." He tried to remember some piece of important information, something about Wraiths. Oh! The Wraiths had passes close by, and it may or may not have been abandoned. He opened, his mouth, and said, "Ainu? The Wraiths passed by it on their way, and we aren't sure about whether the inhabitants have survived." He grinned impishly, and said, "Of course we know where you live. Your tribe was one of the first to start taking land on this island of Maki. They called down the very gods to destroy us."

hikaru.dream

"You're trapping yourself there," Shou informed him. "One, we don't live on this island. There may be a hermit or there somewhere, though. Two, if we had called down the gods, which we can't, that would mean that you angered the forest very very much. We're born from the forest, in order to protect it."

She smiled brightly and grabbed Ms. Maki's hand.
"Thanks for your warnings, Mr. Coatl, but if you're not completely crazy and aren't actually a complete lier (which you make me doubt very much), we must be on the way. Especially if there's something I can help out at the village."

She began walking quickly, half dragging Maki who was twice her size.
"Not such a nice person, ne?" She commented lightly.
