Title: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 17, 2014, 01:29:30 PM
Trees croaked with the strong wind, bending their trunks and branches, and rattling their leaves. A fire burned between them, shielded by a few large bushes, on the shore of a thin stream. He yawned, staring into the kindling flames, and poked them with a twig. He wasn't too sure whether he wanted to go to sleep yet, or rather keep awake for a while...

He pulled his cape to his shoulders, and his mouth opened wide in a yawn once again. His hand softly moved a wisp of golden hair, which has fallen into his face, away, and he straightened his back. The night was very silent, even the small river was only quietly flowing down the large rocks under the masses of water. It was making him sleepy...

Beginning to hum a silent melody, he put his hand into and out of the fire, softly chuckling as it changed its color from orange into green, and back to the warm hue of flames when his ghostly white fingers left the flame. He repeated the trick several times, making the fire glow in all colors of the rainbow. A simple form of amusement, but enough to keep him awake.

He was tired from walking all day, something his fragile body wasn't too used to, and he was quite hungry, too, but knowing that he's already on the borders of Connlaoth was satisfying.

Eventually, he let the fire die out, and laid down onto his cape to get a rest. When not wearing a robe, it was far easier to simply coil up on the ground and cover yourself with a cloak. He was thankful for the tight leather armour he wore, and his eyes soon closed, welcoming the embrace of sleep.

A gentle breeze began to blow, and a faint, faint, unidentifiable sound seemed to resound in the distance. It sounded like a whistle, but more grainy, the texture more rough.

Then, as if by some heavenly miracle, the stars themselves seemed to begin falling from the sky, coming down as sparkles and fairy dust. And from these sparkles, purple light began to emanate.

The sound emanated in the distance again, eerily hollow, and a presence filled the air in the camp. It was pure chance that this was where it was to happen. Pure bad luck. The sparkles reached the floor, and sensed the dreaming elf.

The light flashed red, and in Thranuilas' dreams, a horrific image would flash. One of torture, and perverse pleasure.

Then, the sound occurred again, slightly louder this time, but no louder than a whisper to Thranuilas.

The light flashed a darker red, showing another horrific image, and it decided Thranuilas was a perfect choice. The light flashed red with his heartbeat, the horrific images increasing in pace, frequency, and graphic content.

Then, right next to Thranuilas' ear, the sound occurred one final time, revealing itself as a nightmarish scream, now raw with terror and pain.

Flashing images appeared in Thranuilas's dreams... No, not images... Memories. He twitched on the ground, muttering something from his sleep, and rolled over. The images continued, showing much more from his youth than he'd like. He could have sworn he even saw his parents...

All of a sudden, he awoke, staring at something incredibly strange before his eyes. It was blazing with sparkling light, as if a star would come down to earth, but the presence was deathly cold, terrifyingly unearthly.

The elf shook the horror of the dreams off and quickly sat up, shaking the cape off his shoulders. "What... What the hell is this?" he muttered, gasping.

The sparkles reacted to Thranuilas waking up, and began to dance, creating spectacular patterns as they did. However, the light began to change to red, going through the spectrum, and the patterns began to seem chaotic. Off in the forest, a horrific scream resounded.

More screams resounded, the sounds of girls and women tortured and hurt beyond belief. The air grew smoky, and the deathly presence seemed to change, going from one of pure dread to one of lust, and desire.

The smoke enveloped in a cylinder around Thranuilas, the sparkles turning into black, smoking dots, the smoke blood red. It swirled around him, the screams seeming to be right outside the vortex now.

Thranuilas, struck speechless by what was unfurling before his eyes, could only cover his ears at the terrible sounds. His eyes closed to stop the smoke from burning them, and he coiled up on the ground in a desperate attempt to stop perceiving all the horrors.

He didn't have any idea about what is happening, but it was terrifying. There was no explanation for this... It seemed like a fae illusion gone terribly, terribly wrong, and he didn't want to be there, but he couldn't climb back up at his feet and crawl away.

A scream escaped his own mouth. "Stop! Leave me alone! Leave me alone!" he shouted.

As if by command, the smoke exploded away from Thranuilas, revealing Araxaz, who looked around confused. Along with Araxaz, stood several demoness' (http://static2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111006150436/warhammer40k/images/c/c8/Daemonettes_by_daarken.jpg), chittering in their native tongue.

"Hello there. Do you have a mirror? I would like to examine my form, if you will..."
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings

Thranuilas blinked at the demon before him in wonder. He didn't appear terrifying... Actually, he was beautiful.

He gave him a faint nod, scrambling to his feet. "I do have some mirrors..." he muttered, searching in his pockets. Eventually, he found a small round mirror, and handed it to the demon, curiously eyeing the creatures, standing around. What strange things!

"Don't break it, I'm going to need it." he warned him, before letting go off the silver plate.

Araxaz smiled, looking at himself in the mirror, before adjusting his hair. The demoness' only just now seemed to notice him, and suddenly they flocked to him like a gang of girls round a celebrity.

"I do look good, don't I..."

Thranuilas chuckled nervously, checking out his own reflection in the mirror. "Yes, I have to agree." he nodded. He scowled at one of the demonessess that stepped too close, and ran through his hair with his hand to straighten it.

The chittering grew wild, and they seemed to whisper into Araxaz's ear, and Araxaz gave a deadly smile.

"No, go off and find another prey. Go on girls. I'll be here when you get back." The demoness' went off, looking to catch food clearly, while Araxaz continued to groom himself.

"Hmmm, something's missing..."

Thranuilas raised a brow, relieved that the crowd was gone. "What? I don't see anything missing. Except for my mirror, which is in your hand." he replied, pointing at the round mirror.

There wasn't anything odd about the demon's appearance... Not anything that would strike him, at least.

At this present point, Araxaz's eyes were human, with full pupils, and a distinct lack of colour changing. He decided to fix that, and add horns on his head while he was there.

His pupils dilated, and horns materialised on his head, and he smiled.

"Perfect. As always. Ugh, I look so much better than all these mortals around. Tell me, be you a demon?"
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 17, 2014, 03:19:16 PM
Thranuilas shook his head. "No. Elf. And yes, I must agree, humans look shamefully bad." he chuckled, taking his mirror back.

The change seemed to suit this creature better than its former, more humanoid point. Thranuilas wasn't even too surprised now.

"Oh. An elf. So are you a mortal, immortal, or half mortal?" Araxaz seemed demeaning in his tone, as if he was sure that Thranuilas was far beneath him upon hearing this.

"Humans? And those are?" Araxaz seemed to know relatively little about the life forms around him, only seeming to care about those that had some element of feeling.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 17, 2014, 03:36:14 PM
Thranuilas winged off. "Immortal, off course. Humans? Humans are the most common things you find around... Live short, are ugly, and fairly stupid." he explained him, with despise and disgust at the human race in his voice.

"And you are...? A demon, I presume?"
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Brisinger987 on February 17, 2014, 03:43:56 PM
"An immortal... Everything mortal is ugly." Araxaz added, hearing the screams of a woman in the distance, and smiling.

"They found food. Good." He returned to the conversation again.

"Yes, a demon. 100% immortal beauty."

Thranuilas chuckled. "I can see that. Lovely hair, to be honest." he admitted, reaching into the wisps of his own long hair, and tilted his head aside.

"I think you're right... Humans are terrifyingly ugly when they grow old, you know? They look like withered dry fruit."
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Brisinger987 on February 18, 2014, 01:02:57 PM
"Of course it's lovely hair. It's mine." Araxaz's boastful, vain personality began to shine through, although his aura portrayed a different picture. His sphere of influence would begin to take it's toll on Thranuilas, planting perverse and disturbing suggestions in his mind, and promising ecstasy and infinite indulgence if carried out.

"So, tell me. How weak minded are these mortals?"
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 18, 2014, 01:10:13 PM
Thranuilas laughed. "That depends which one you pick at! Some are indeed really stupid. Some aren't as much... There are ones that are only a little more clever than cattle, you can shove them around with a stick." he joked.

"And then you have those so-called guards and soldiers. Those are just trouble..." he shook his head, and sighed. "All chains and executions."
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Brisinger987 on February 18, 2014, 01:30:09 PM
"Soldiers and guards... Hmmm." Araxaz seemed deep in thought, before one of the demoness' came back, dragging a limp, dead human behind her. The rest followed, and they violently dismantled the corpse, feasting. And they continued until one of the demoness' got too violent with a leg, and flicked blood onto Araxaz's face.

Then all hell broke loose.

That demoness' got a mace to the abdomen, and then had her skull pierced by a flaming javelin. And Araxaz, now in his armoured form, held the corpse up as a warning to the others, who cowered behind each other.

Thranuilas first only stared at the wild show of bloodshed before him in surprise and wonder, and then broke into mad laughter. He covered his mouth with his slender hands, collapsing onto the ground, snickering crazily.

For an unknown reason, he found it incredibly comical to see the demonesses covering in fear, and couldn't force himself to stop laughing.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Brisinger987 on February 18, 2014, 01:46:28 PM
Araxaz's menacing form turned to look at Thranuilas, and the demoness' and their master misunderstood. All the demons believed the laughter was mocking.

"Are you MOCKING ME?!" Araxaz's demoness' hissed, while the mace set ablaze, and the demon's red runes glowed bright red.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 18, 2014, 01:54:08 PM
Thranuilas shook his head, pointing at the demonesses. "No... Mocking? Good gods, no!" he gasped, still laughing. "I suddenly found it incredibly amusing how you just smacked her!" he howled towards Araxaz.

Usually, he wouldn't find bloodshed comical, but in these circumstances, it was more amusing than the performances of street comedians.

"You mock me, puny insect!" Araxaz's rage was sudden, and unsettling, and he swung the mace in a large arc over himself, aiming down at Thranuilas.

"NO-ONE MOCKS ME!"
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 18, 2014, 02:11:17 PM
Thranuilas rolled away from the mace before it hit him, sliding down the bank of the stream. He quickly climbed to his feet, dusting himself off, and frowned. "I'm not mocking anybody." he growled.

How did this cray demon even get the idea? He was merely laughing at the demonessess and their trembling... Well, if he wanted to fight, Thranuilas wasn't one to let himself shove around.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Brisinger987 on February 18, 2014, 02:19:35 PM
The demoness' rose to their full height, and more demoness' clawed their way up from the ground, and the now demonic voice of Araxaz changed from it's original, seductive tones, to the harsh roar of an enraged demon.

"RIP THE FLESH FROM HIS BONES!"

Aldanith raised a shield of energy around himself to protect his fragile body from the rage of the demons, and further enforced it with fire, suddenly springing from the ground. He shook his head. "Leave now... And don't come back. I have no intention of fighting you... But I won't stand here defenseless!" he warned them.

He already prepared a spell that could work against those creatures, and only waited for the first attack to be launched.

"Fine. You will DIE!" The demoness' charged, and as they did, more crawled from the ground, hungry for Thranuilas' flesh.

"FEAST ON HIS BLOOD!"
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 19, 2014, 02:46:39 AM
The shield around the elf's figure shook with their attacks, but didn't falter. The flames changed color to a bright, vibrant white, only partly keeping the orange by their base, and sprang by the feet of the demonesses, reaching after their bodies.

The demoness' caught ablaze, and most recoiled. The rest began to secrete a purple gas, the wind spreading it everywhere.

"Not even your shield will protect you..." The gas was designed to cause Thranuilas to see the monsters as beautiful sirens, hidden behind a hallucination of beauty and seduction.

Thranuilas indeed did see strange, wonderful creatures behind the veil of the shield, but instead of dropping the shield just stepped back. Strong wind suddenly begun blowing through the forest, carrying the smoke away and the flames forth.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Brisinger987 on February 19, 2014, 03:14:50 AM
While the purple smoke was gone, the illusion would remain, and Araxaz strengthened his field of influence. He tried to bend all of Thranuilas' desire to the demoness', who adopted more human poses, and began to try and seduce Thranuilas by acting like young women, imitating voice, posture and personality.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 19, 2014, 03:18:03 AM
The figures of the women were tempting, but a part of Thranuilas' mind was still aware that they are, in fact, demonesses, and should be avoided. That this is only a trick... Though the temptation was great, he closed his eyes and covered his ears. If he couldn't see them or hear them, he would be safe of their influence.

Araxaz snarled, and intensified his influence, turning it from a sphere to a concentrated beam, and he tried to suggest ideas.

It can't be that bad...
Go on...
Try it...
They won't bite...

Thranuilas opened his eyes to a tight gap, studying the demonesses. One of them was painfully similar to the bard he met a long, long time ago... He gasped and covered his face again. It was only an illusion! And so was she. She was long dead.

He wanted to run to her, find her in his embrace again, and take both of them far, far away from this place, but he knew that it was only a dream - at least a part of his mind was aware of that.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Brisinger987 on February 19, 2014, 03:27:35 AM
The illusions Thranuilas was having were streaming to the demoness' and they began to prise information from his mind. The one with the illusion of the bard suddenly spoke.

"Thranuilas..." The voice was a replica of the one from Thranuilas' memories, a perfect recreation.

His eyes widened and he was forced to pull his hands from his eyes. It must have been her... It was her voice! If this all was a dream, then he couldn't get hurt.

He ran forth, straight towards the illusion of the bard, and his arms entwined around her body. It must have been a dream... And if it was a dream, he was free to do whatever he wanted.

"We've missed you Thranuilas..." The other demoness' posing as girls, surrounded him, and for a brief second, the illusion flickered, as if it were a good dream, struggling to fight off an impending nightmare.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Anadwen on February 19, 2014, 03:40:57 AM
"I missed you, too." he whispered, and pressed his lips onto her, fiercely kissing her. She was just as when he saw her for the first time, just as his memories. She... There was nothing to hold back. She was a dream, his dream.
Title: Re: Strange Illusions, Strange Meetings
Post by: Brisinger987 on February 19, 2014, 03:44:01 AM
As he kissed her, the illusion would shatter, and the nightmare began, as clawed hands and vicious hissing signalled the end of the dream.

The demon that Thranuilas kissed forced it's tendril like tongue into his mouth, chittering at the taste of fresh meat.

"You will taste like a delicacy..."

Suddenly realizing that it is no dream, Thranuilas backed up, crawling away from the demoness. Off course...

A scream escaped his mouth as another shield surrounded him, trapping half of the demoness that kissed him inside, while the others were out of it. A long, thin blade appeared in his hands, and it slashed after the body, stabbing and cutting whatever was in its way.

The demoness caught in the shield simply walked through, uttering a counterspell on the shield, making it disappear.

"We know your tricks..."

Thranuilas scrambled to his feet, and charged at her with the blade in his hands, aiming straight into the middle of her chest. He finally came to his senses, and all he wanted was to drive these creatures away.

The demoness, still having access to his mind, saw the move coming before he made it, and countered it. Thranuilas had let them in, and now they weren't leaving, bombarding his mind with horrific images from their minds, things they loved, sickening, perverse activities.

Another gust of wind arose, suddenly circling around Thranuilas' figure. Something cracked in the spinning air, and lightning flashed, blindingly bright in the night. Fire was once again rising from the ground all around Thranuilas, blown high into the air by the winds. It appeared as if he was in a circle of light, turning around him like a wreath of flames and lightning.

The demoness backed away from the fire, before Araxaz stepped into, and through it, wielding a sword now.

"You... Will. DIE!"

Thranuilas backed up into the water, throwing himself straight into the stream. It was cold, strong after the rain that preceded this evening, and swiftly pulled him away from the shore. It turned him around and around, playing with his slender body as if it was but a piece of rag, but he didn't try to oppose it, only twisted to a less vulnerable position...

...Hopefully, the demon wouldn't follow him through the river.

Araxaz followed, unfazed by the river. He simply walked into it, and walked with the current, using his immense demonic strength to easily resist the river.

"Run, elf. Run..."

The stream carried Thranuilas forth, but he was slowly running out of breath. He feared that he might not get away...

A dark figure, riding a rather large mount, appeared on the edge of the forest, drawn towards Araxaz. It was hidden in a hood, but hard dark armour was visible on the withered, dried skin on the bones of the horse.

Araxaz felt the new presence, and his attention faltered. He looked towards this new person, and stepped out of the river.

"Identify yourself... Demon."

Daerian's hood sled off the smooth white hair, and revealed her perfect white face, adorned by two large, lavender-colored eyes. She sled off the horse, every move graceful and seductive, though she was oozing with decay, death and evil.

"Daerian Aindalen, my fellow companion..." she said in a deep voice, the tip of her tongue flashing across her lips. "May I know your name?"

"We look similar, do we not? We look good."

"Ve'lor:ak... Kirnardaz..." Daerian's lips twisted into a wide grin. "Welcome. It is a pleasure to meet you, son."

Her hands, hidden in black armour, reached out after him. "We indeed do. Immortal beauty is the best beauty." she winked at him.

"Immortal beauty is the only kind of beauty."

"You bear my lover's name..." Daerian replied. "And you bear my appearance. There is no doubt." She smiled at him, and came closer. "I think you should follow me. It isn't safe in these forests... Not for ones as us. Too many humans... Humans are disgusting." she winged off.

Araxaz's face changed as his interest spiked. He smiled, then spoke.

Daerian took off the helmet that partly covered her head till then, revealing the perfectly-shaped angelic face, without a single flaw. The wisps of her long white hair rolled down onto her shoulders, slipping through the intimidating spikes like waves of the surging sea.

Her hands took his face to her hands, and her lips pressed on his forehead in a kiss. "My son. Blessed be the earth to bear that much beauty." she spoke, and smiled with graceful confidence.

"I agree. Come, follow me..." Daerian pointed at her gaunt mount, jumping back into the saddle on its tall back. "I'll show you a wonderful place which is all mine, only mine. I'm convinced you will like it... No mortals getting in the way." she winked at him, gesturing Araxaz to sit behind her.

"I do not need sustenance. I require simply the lust and desire of every soul in the realm. When people begin to stop desiring, then I will worry." Araxaz stated confidently, as if he actually knew what was best for him. Even from Daerian's perspective, his arrogance and vanity might have appeared as a problem.

She laughed. "Quite a lot, don't you think so? Blood is sufficient for me. The more the merrier, off course, though!" she cheered. The corpse-resembling horse galloped through the forest with long leaps, carrying them on its arched back with grace as unearthly as its riders.

Araxaz had a bored look on his face, as he examined the world, confused as to some of it's features.

"What are those twinkling objects in the sky?"

"Stars." Daerian explained plainly. "And the large white one is the Moon."

"During the day, a much larger, brighter one appears on the sky. That's the Sun. But it's gone now, because it's night."

"Interesting. And these green spikes coming from the ground?" Araxaz looked curiously, beginning to contemplate this world.

"Grass. It's of no use to us, but there are creatures that consume it. They draw energy from it... It sounds strange, doesn't it?" she laughed.

"Interesting. Are any creatures in this world of use to us?" Araxaz examined things closely as they travelled, curious about the world.

"Yes," Daerian nodded. "Horses can be ridden, and so do dragons, if you tame them. Those are dangerous and mighty... Not as much as us, off course. The rest is quite useless."

"Are there not other demons around for us to command and rule?" Araxaz asked, suddenly seeming bored with this realm.

Daerian laughed as she shook her head. "No. There are few demons in this realm... And even if not, we are among the strongest ones. We'd rule if there was something to rule!" she explained. His questions were a little silly, but he was young, new to this world, and she understood that.

"Bah. This world sounds like it is barely worth my time." Araxaz stated bluntly, before seeing pretty girl staring at the pair, and he immediately jumped off the horse.

"Hello there miss..."

Daerian pulled the reins back, and the large mount stopped. She watched with interest as the girl backed up, and raised a smile at her before she would run away.

"Ah, don't be afraid, sweetie. We won't hurt you." she said softly. Her corrupting, tempting nature was oozing out of her form, slowly beginning to take effect on the girl.

Araxaz smiled at the girl, and in the space of an instant, his mind enthralled hers, captivating her in his presence. Her pupils seemed to vanish, and she got a glazed look to her.

"I worship the master..." She got on her knees and began to pray, chanting Araxaz's name.

"So weak willed..."

Daerian's smile was suddenly twisted and cruel. "Indeed they are... And I am hungry." she whispered.

A pair of large grey wings sprang from her back, her armour rearranging to make way for them, and her slender hands were suddenly ended in sharp, pointed claws. Her eyes flashed crimson as she stepped to the girl, and one claw clenched around her throat.

The drips of blood on it were slowly, gracefully licked off by the tip of Daerian's tongue. "Don't you want to play, Araxaz?" she asked playfully.

"Do not kill her. Not yet. Release her one second. I wish to see the extent of my control..." Araxaz stared at the girl, who seemed to see only Araxaz, not noticing Daerian.

"Oh, don't mind me!" Daerian chuckled, bending above the girl and feeding on her blood, careful not to take her life yet.

"Try out your temporary new toy." she winked.

"Mother, release her for a moment. She doesn't seem to notice you, she is completely fixated on me. Try making me blood. Draw blood from a vital place..." Araxaz watched as the girl followed him with her head, like a snake to a pipe.

"I don't need her attention, all I need is the life force in her blood." Daerian replied, pulling one of her claws out of her mouth. "But you're doing it right. There, make her follow her."

Araxaz lifted his chin, exposing his neck. He kept an eye on the girl, and her eyes suddenly flicked to Daerian.

Daerian created a shield of energy around herself, and as she scratched Araxaz's neck, leaving a shallow crimson line in it, the girl threw herself against it. The demoness smiled. "Very well, she's completely devoted..."

"Now let me play a mind game..." Daerian laughed. Her hand passed through the shield onto the girl's head, and she blinked at her, her eyes turning white. Slowly standing up, she followed Daerian like a shadow.

Araxaz grew bored watching Daerian toy with the girl, and looked around at the wildlife and woodland, curious.

Daerian also soon found the pawn uninteresting. When the girl failed to entertain her, she bent over to her, gripping her neck, and her sharp fangs skewed into the girl's throat.

The taste of blood has always been wonderful.

Araxaz sighed, and saw a large flower.

"What is this mother?"

Daerian glanced up from the woman's neck. "Huh?" she mumbled through the blood, streaming from her mouth, and wiped the crimson off her face. "Ah, that. A flower, child. There are lots of them around, but if you tear it out of the ground, it withers and dies. It's even more fragile than humans."

"But..." Araxaz muttered a spell, that sounded angelic in it's tone, and had angelic meaning, but was spoken in the Voraxian tongue. The flower glowed, and then stopped. Then he plucked it out of the ground, and placed it in the crevice on the top of his left ear.

"There we go."

"How wonderful!" Daerian laughed softly, and stroke his cheek. "Flowers sure are pretty, but if you don't enchant them, they will wither and fade in a few days. Come on, we aren't far, and you can keep it."

"Novsa." The plant changed, it's petals turning red, and it's stem turning black. And it became a rose.

"This is much better."

"I do agree." Daerian nodded. "It's better in red."

Somewhere in the distance, mountains appeared on the horizon. They were getting near to the fortress, hidden between their sides...

"You are speaking as if we have something to fear! This world is full of mortals, insects compared to me. Is there something you are trying to hide, mother? Are you by any chance a mortal?" Araxaz ignored his mother's demands, and continued to hover along, glowing red in the night's darkness.

Daerian scoffed. "It is just the mere desire not to expose ourselves before the time comes. We will be the rulers soon... But it's important not to reveal that to the mortals. They have to be ignorant and unprepared, and we will be able to take over simply and smoothly then."

"Eh, then stay in it! I won't stand up for you if someone notices you, and villagers start running after you with pitchforks and torches!" Daerian joked, chuckling a little.

The silhouette of her fortress was beginning to draw in the distance. They were getting nearer to the mountains, peaks of which were towering above the high stone walls. Even in such a dark night, their shadows were still sharp and distinct.

But then again, once he had chosen, he was stuck like that.
