So, I think that the Drow and the Luminari are on pretty even ground, I'll let you point out what the Drow have that's better then what the Luminari have. And it can't be 'numbers' or any ship that the Drow couldn't possibly have made because, face it, Drow just ARE NOT technology smart. ^_^

well i will point out something "good" (if good is a word that can be associated with drow)
they have magic. lots of magic. i read up on the drow history for d&d, turns out they got cast away from society not by elves, the elves couldn't take on their own brothers (drow is elven for dark elf) the elves needed the humans and dwarves to help them cast away the drow, who sat in their kingdoms in the icy north minding their own business as much as anyone else could say. the elves got scared of the power the drow amassed when they began worshipping "evil" gods and goddesses (Lloth for one) so the drow split up, one group went to the desert and soon merged in with the other desert races, becoming taller and thinner, and more brown than black. the second group went to the jungle, which became green rather than black and shorter. and the last group went to Underdark which is the drow we know from books. they kept to their society and vowed to return to the surface and get revenge. so who is so evil now? the drow for worshipping evil gods? or the elves for casting their judgement rather than letting the immortals deal with it?

Drow, who live in the UNDERDARK, who GO BLIND IN STARLIGHT, are 'technologically advanced' .... yeah ..... Maybe with the magics, and the meditating. But that's it.
Your Drow for SotE might be technologically advanced. But everywhere else... No, I'm afraid they're not.

ur not entirely right about the blindness josh, (again i hate to keep repeating "in d&d") Light Blindness as dictated is the first round (6 seconds fo combat) the drow are treated as blinded and all rounds after that they are treated as Dazzled for as long as they are in the source

Yes, those are campaign stats. Drow grow tolerance to light after a certain term of regular exposure, and like i said, there are enchantment to best it.
i'd have to agree with Jezzika on the tech though. even in d&d, with futuristic settings, the drow have always been used as the bandit race for the universe. it states they never create what they use, only steal it from those that can't protect it
yeah, it's got those stats too, "Daylight Adaption" but you no longer are dazzled, u still get that first round of blindness. enchantments? no. sorry but unless they could snuff the light before it even shone on them, nope there is not a single spell or anything listed (i've looked, cuz i used drow bard alot as they play the assassin role in drow society)

But the point is.. Drow can create weapons and such, sure, but... Ships are in the 'ain't gunna happen ANYTIME soon' bin. ^_^
considering ALL of drow items are crafted out of Adamantine and mythril. and all of them deteriate, at least ALL MAGIC items do. here's the chart from the book as stated above:

drow do not like any race at all, they blame all for their banishment and think of all as Lloth's meat. besides, drow live on Middledark and mind flayers live on Lowerdark, that's about 10 miles difference in depth of the earth...that's big seeing as middledark only goes from 3 miles to 7 miles underground
once again info from a campaign rulebook. Campaign rules don't apply here. Get stuff from a pure imformation book lol. such as...

And drow make alliances with any races if it benefits them, such as gnomes, illithids, and duergar.
how do illithids help them? mind flayers think drow have great tasting brains and would rather eat them. drow deal with demons more frequently than anything, another point why their ships (if they had them) would be fueled by the demons they trapped in the engine.
gnomes? of all things. that's slave labor there, snirvneblin can offer nothing to save themselves from the duergar, let alone drow. however, i can see drow working with duergar, but the drow would have much distaste for "sinking to such a level"
Drow will do anything if it benefits them. You should read some drow books o.O not source books...like, the dark elf trilogy, homeland, or any of the war of the spider queen books.

i think josh has you in drow knowledge guys. that's like all he does... literally. XD
and umm. campaign sourcebooks are made for dnd, which is, in essence, a dice game. its not entirely true, just like how you should be able to cut through walls and shit in starwars games with your lightsaber, but you cant because it would not work in the game. drow encyclopedias and such are more truthful.
and, since i've fallen way behind on posting, about the blindness... yes the sun causes excruciating pain in all drow fresh from the underdark, but they eventually adapt to the light. and there are a select few, like my character Kerath, that simply push through the pain, through sheer strength of will. and there is a little thing called a hood. drow are trained their whole lives to fight blind. partially blind by the light, they are still at least on par with any human.

Survey says no.

dude, Kerath's pushin 730 and still got a good 800-1000 years before he goes senile. nto to mention his complete indifference to pain or near to non-existant fatigue...

and yes u can tell how good people hear by cutting them open. u know that thing called an ear drum? it's size. plus ur inner ear. deaf people, their ear drum is incredibly small and it gets larger the better u hear. would lumenari know this about anatomy? well lets see, it appears drow know how to use ships even though they have no use what's so ever for them. underdark is riddled with portals. and something odd about what u two said too. raiding parties every 50 years? well seeing as UR drow live to be about 2,000 years, 50 years is nothing. that's a normal human lifespan doing something every year like celebrating their wedding aniversery.
and even if lumenari don't live longer than human years (if they do or don't) there are things call logs and research. it's like the usa finding a space ship and keeping it storage or if they found an alien, keeping it frozen for further study.
which means only about one group of drow come to the surface in a lumenari's lifetime, and they only last about an hour, so it isn't the easiest thing to find while they be out.
*cough* I think everyone's forgetting that this is an RPG. XD Not everything has to be played line by line by the book, peeps, not even races. I mean, people play, say, Elven characters all the time, but it's a rare occurance when you'll find a Tolkian-ish Elf, or an Elf based off of true mythology. Because it's a fantasy RPG...and you have a LOT of creative leeway here. You don't have to play by the book unless you want to.
