Physical Description
Artemis is not too tall and possesses a mousiness about her. With frizzy, dark brown, wavy hair with a curly side bang that drapes just a little over her left eye, it's about mid back in length and is rather thick (again with unruly, larger curls she always has trouble taming, even with brushing it several times of the day- it's really quite obnoxious and if she had the gall to cut it all off, she would! But she possesses no such gall). Half of her hair tends to be bond in a partial, loose pony tale down the middle, you know, to keep it more manageable.

She has pale skin (as she rarely sees the sun) and just a light dotting of freckles across her nose and cheeks, shoulders, chest and arms and few, tiny moles dot her body, but mostly in places you can not see.  She tends to wear simple things- in earthen tones primarily, and skirt-like pants and heavy sweaters, as the library can get rather chilly, but has a loose, short sleeved ivory colored shirt beneath in case the place gets stuffy. (one can never know and must be prepared for anything!)

Artemis also has warm, dark brown eyes and dark, full lashes and brows.

Personality and History  A dreamer, Artemis is a bit bubbly, but well scholared. Sometimes she's a bit too learned for the crowds she entertains, and has a bit of social awkwardness about her- liking to talk about dead languages and ancient mythology, rather than current social commentaries.

Artemis is the oldest sister of her house, (only her brother being a few year older than she); and since her parents had taken ill, she has become the motherly figure and head of the house hold while she and her brother work to keep their family together under this difficult times. Because of this, she can come off a bit pushy when not appearing a push over (it honestly depends on who she is with and how comfortable she is with them. If she doesn't know you, she'll come off as meek, timid or shy (take your pick XP ). If you know her, she'll come off as a bit ignorant and rude, even a bit stuffy, but bubbly and fun none the less. Though over all,s he can be rather quiet). Also, she is very, VERY nosy and curious by nature.
She likes knowing what is going on, even in local gossip, especially ones involving her family or friends, and the library acts as an amicable spot for eavesdropping.

She is a hard worker, though a dreamer- and someday dreams about wild adventures, steamy romances, though would never EVER tell you so.  She is quite prude and humble, but easily excitable on things she loves.

Things she DOES love are: books, books and more books. She can't get enough of reading, and sometime, even on late nights where she's put in over 16 hours at the library, she'll stay a little longer, just to finish another chapter or two of a good book she's found. Sometimes she stays late even on shorter days, the quiet of the library after dark calms her. It's like her second home, and is far less chaotic than her actual life when in her parents home, tending to them while they are ill and helping raise her younger sister's and acting as their parental guide while her parents still remain weak.

Artemis is constantly thinking of other people before herself, and will naturally defend someone she believes is a good person, and would bend over backwards, despite their protests (so if they protested, she'd try to find ways around it so they wouldn't 'know's he is helping, even as she'd continue to do so).

She's proficient at sewing, reading, learning new languages, has a very good memory, and is a very creative thinker. However, she does not take criticism well, and will often times easily fall into melancholy for it. She's also, while dedicated to other people, works liek a machine, so even though she will help someone, she is, at the same time, VERY focused on herself. Because she spends so much time by herself at the library, working and keeping the place in order, she has a lot of time to think and mull things over,a nd can be found on many occasions to be day dreaming rather than working (or day dreaming while she is working and a catalog will get coded improperly and she has to start over).

Artemis has a hard time focusing on little details about people sometimes when she wants to see the big picture, OR, sometimes she gets hung up on the little details she ignores the big picture; and most of the time whatever she focuses on tends to be the easier route, or the ONLY route she can see. If someone is having a problem, she tries to find solutions, even when she is wrong, and always strives to find perfection in herself, evne while knowing, she will never be perfect. She wants to make her family happy, show them she is worth something, even as they press her to get a husband, she rejects the ideas and reminds them she needs to stay at home; but the real reason she rejects love is because she is afraid of it, and made a mistake several years ago, right before her parents became gravely ill. She had fallen for someone, someone that ended up marrying her cousin, Emily, only because the man, whom she fervently believed did not love her, (because when she realized she had a crush on him,s he hid like the plague). He was very sweet on her, so she was somewhat shocked and heart broken when she heard he was to marry her cousin. (however, she was too stupid to realize he did like her, but she never opened herself up to realize he wanted to court her, or had interest) but the pair did use to go on dates from time to time, on her closing shifts at the library they tended to go on walks along the river.

He was the only one she ever really opened up to.

Artemis is also ignorant to a fault, not believing silly things like vampires, werewolves and curses can exist.
"If I can see it and touch it and taste it, then I'll believe it. But who's to believe just words and silly stories? If it were real, then I'm sure I would know it." - Artemis, on Vampires

Artemis also has a horrible, nervous habit of 'fainting' when she has no idea how to deal with a situation (whether she truly would faint or not is normally in question). But it's far easier to handle something with a faint than to deal with any such drama awake, and it normally deters people from said event or moment so they tend to her, rather than to focus on the abomination or awkward 'thing' that caused her to faint dead away.
She also chews her finger nails (another nervous habit) and chews on the inside of her cheeks and her lower lip from time to time, and sometimes, on the back the edge of quill pens (which have awkwardly given the corner of her mouth ink stains from time to time)

She's also very, very shy and awkward around any man who looks decent, and if a man is down right handsome or gorgeous, she acts even worse around him; which stems from her own idea she isn't worthy enough because she isn't rich enough, normal enough or pretty enough; though she is pretty enough indeed, though in her own way. She does, after all, come home smelling like old books, wears unflattering clothing, too large of spectacles when she needs to read fine print (which make her eyes enormous when in use), and tends to keep her face rather plain.

But she's got pretty eyes, ones normally hidden behind her hair, and full lips, a strong jaw and high cheek bones. Perhaps if she were to try, she'd realize she's just as pretty as every other girl, but she keeps her assets well hidden behind large sweaters that had once been either her brothers or father's hand me downs (so they normally fit her like a dress more than just a sweater) and tend to have sleeves that go well past her hands in length.

Yes, perhaps a light touch of rouge or a blush might bring out some color in her pale face, and sometimes, when she is dreaming, it's when she looks the most beautiful, as she is not twisting her face over theories inside her head, or pouting away in worry.

Magic/Abilities N/A

Religion
Artemis doesn't really believe in Angsar and all that crap involved in his legend, nor does she really believe in anything at all but the learned word. She's curious that something might be out there, but she's got better things to do with her time than to fret and worry over such things as religion and life after death. There are far, far too many things to do in her life for her to worry about faith.

Relationships  She has an older brother, Arrick; and three younger sisters whom she takes care of. Her other brother works in the mines while she maintains some income from the small library in Uthlyn.  Her parents have been ill as of late,a nd havne't been able to do much as far as bringing in any money- so it's pretty much her and her brother ruling the house.

Her younger sisters are:
Naddy, 17 (rather mousy and wears glasses, she's very self conscious and afraid her glasses make boys dislike her (and blames them for why she is not married) She can be a bit silly and unrealistic at times and sort of lives in her own world to cope with her family's life and sick parents. She works as a weaver.

Arisa, 15 (She is currently boy crazy) and Artemis finds herself having a hard time keeping this sister in line. Arisa can't hold a job and thinks she's too 'refined' for it. Currently, it always seems she's 'always looking' for a job, or something with the right fit! She is often times very lazy.

Jane, 14- She seems to be following in Arisa's foot steps, being boy crazy as well , but she actually is able to keep a job and works for the local paper (which she secretly enjoys, primarily because the newspaper owners son is really cute!) Though she's too shy to really pursue anything but the occasional 'hello'. Her hesitation comes from her older sister Artemis, for she's seen her sister's heart break and is the only one of the three sister's Artemis is the closest to. Arisa and Naddy are just too trapped in their own worlds.

Jaimen- father,a jovial man who easily befreinds all. Everyone in the town knows him. He used to work in the mines.

Raiella- mother, a very proud woman who loves to be able to do things on her own. Her illness has been especially hard on her since she was taking care of her husband primarily until she herself, got striken with the illness. SHe's a very hardy woman and loves nothing more in the world than her family, but her husband is always the jewel of her eye. Now that they are ill, they are even inseparable  now- as they have taken residence in the common room while their two oldest children take care of them. But one can tell Raiella still rule the roost, even in her sickly state,s he is able to give orders and punish her younger, more unruly children (particularly Arisa)

Her cousin Emily, married to Joseph Blunthe
Emily's brother: Edwin Manchester (cousin)

Jacob Blunthe, friend and former 'crush' (first love)

Brief History
Artemis had humble beginnings. She was lucky enough her parents had enough money to begin schooling her, but then finances quickly took a turn for the worst. Not wanting to give up on her studies, she was allowed to continue to study if she worked for the library at no cost, which eventually turned into her career, as she practically lives there.  She has an unsatable desire for knowledge, especially towards history and believes there is much out there in the world we have not discovered...

Despite being schooled, Artemis still doesn't believe in things like vampires or werewolves, though has some stipulation towards magic, considering she had never truly seen them work; so she remains ignorant to things she 'believes' or can't 'conceive' are real- not to say she wouldn't convert the moment she found out all was true! (in which she probably would faint)

She currently dreams about making a permanent position for herself at the library, and are her only real goals in life, even as she dreams to break out of the normalcy of her day to day routines as she day dreams her life away.

Her favorite country to study is Essyrn, and she has always had a fascination for it.
