At a Glance:

Name: Jana Treyburn (Jahn-ah Tray-burn)

Age: 38

Gender: Female

Species: Human

Height: 5 foot 6

Occupation: Exiled (Crowned Ranger in The Free Folk)

Not-So-Basic Information:

Looks:
When Jana was young, she had long, wavy brown hair that framed her perfectly innocent face. She had a light tan, but nothing special. And her expressive light green eyes made everybody happy.

But then she grew up, stuff happened, and she changed. Inside and outside.

She had to cut her hair to join the army. Its waves now only reached little over two inches from where it stemmed. Her hair got lighter and her skin got darker from days upon days spent in the sun. And her eyes? They turned into a darker green, as if reflecting the change in her soul. What caused this change in her will be explained in more detail later on.

After leaving (or, more accurately, getting kicked out of) the army, Jana decided to keep her hair short. It suited her better. When sneaking out to see her family, she wears a simple and inconspicuous cape to cover her image up. After all, she doesn't want anybody finding out that she's in Connloath. Otherwise, she sticks to simple garments that allow good movement such as loose shirts and leather pants. She no longer has to dress up as a man, but Jana does anyway. It fits her tomboy personality and she doesn't like people judging her for being a girl.

Personality:

Relationships:
Parents: Wealthy, minor noblemen in the pocket of some Duke or another. She utterly despises them.

Siblings (9):

Magic/Abilities:
Jana has no magic, but that doesn't make her unable to fight. Years of training in and out of the army have made her quick, stable, and strong. She also knows how to use the majority of weapons. You'll never find her without two daggers, which she can utilise expertly. Swords are dealt with fine and she also knows how to use artillery (her brother gladly taught her), though she tends to avoid it. But even without any weapons, don't underestimate her.

Short History:
If you want a complete history of Jana's life, go to the next section. If you want a quick understanding, this is your place.

Jana was the perfect child until she witnessed her identical twin brother (accidentally) murdered by her dad. She obviously went through some emotional trauma but eventually started to connect with her family more, parents ignored. Said parents wanted her to get married and out of their way, but she didn't want to so she joined the army, dressed up as her deceased twin brother. She stayed in the army for five years before being exposed and killing an officer. She ran and ran and ran until she eventually joined The Free Folk. They took her in and she eventually became the Crowned Ranger. There is now a bounty on her head throughout Connloath but she still visits her siblings from time to time. The end.

Full History:
Jana's history is a bit... complicated. So I'm going to use a textbook method and split it up based on various parts of her life.

Innocence (0-12):
Jana was a lovely little girl. A bit of a tomboy, yes, but she still liked her dresses. Much of her time was spent with her identical twin brother (Reagan), her older brother (Redly), and her younger brother (Braxton). This probably contributed to her tomboy-ness. She was cute and innocent and loved almost everybody. And, in return, almost everybody loved her. Jana was also smart, athletic, and creative. In many ways, she was the perfect child.

Destroyed (12-14):
A little after she and Reagan turned twelve, Jana's life changed forever. Her brother, who had a small amount of magic (only known to Jana), was arguing with their dad. He was trying to convince Pa that magic should be allowed and that he was stupid for disagreeing. Pa was outraged and hit Reagan square in the jaw. The impact of the punch caused the young boy to fall backwards and, unfortunately, down the stairs. He was dead. Jana witnessed this whole thing, hiding. Except from her point of view, Pa purposefully murdered her twin brother. Her dad doesn't know she saw it, and he keeps the information hidden from everyone except Ma.

Jana ran to Redly and Braxton crying and told them what happened. They decided to keep it a secret for the protection of the younger kids. After all, they knew Pa wouldn't tell anybody. She lied to the rest of her siblings, telling them that he had been accepted into the military early. Reagan had been fit enough that her siblings, at least for the most part, believed this story. When Ma and Pa heard this story, they also went along with it.

But Jana was no longer the innocent and naive girl she used to be. She grew withdrawn and more rebellious. She'd leave the house for long periods of time and didn't spend nearly as much time with her siblings, even though she loved them. It just hurt too much. When nobody was around, she'd curl up in a ball and cry. And she never talked to Ma and Pa.

Recovering (15-17):
Jana knew she had to move on with her life eventually. For herself, and for Reagan. As she grew older, she realized that would be what he wanted. She started spending more and more time with her siblings and helped raise the younger ones. She hid her pain when she was around others, and acted as if nothing was ever wrong. But from time to time, she'd cry alone. Throughout all of this, Redly was the only one she would ever consult or tell the full truth to.

Angry (17-18):
When she turned seventeen, Ma and Pa finally got tired of her attitude and unwillingness to speak to them (though they didn't know why). They decided to marry her off to some rich guy. The man they chose was snotty, disgusting, and cocky. Needless to say, she hated him. It was at this time that she finally spoke or, more accurately, yelled at her parents. She said she would never marry such a pig and that they were horrible and she hated them and a bunch of other things. Most of it was anger she never released from Reagan's death. She still had a soft spot for her siblings, but her attitude started getting a little rougher and colder. To take out her frustration on having to marry somebody she hated, she started going for late night runs and started working out.

Determined (18-23):
One day, Jana had a realization that changed her life yet again. She could join the army while pretending to be Reagan. At this time in her life, she had gotten over her pain enough to do this. She went running to Redly, who was already in the military, with this idea. He rejected it immediately. But she didn't care. It was too perfect. She cut her hair short, stole some of Redly's clothes (they fit her well enough), and wrapped up her chest. When she looked in the mirror, she was astonished. If Reagan had lived as long as she did, there was no doubt that was exactly what he would look like.

She joined the army without suspicion, under the pseudonym of Reagan Treyburn. It wasn't hidden knowledge that Ma and Pa Treyburn had a lot of kids, and they already had a Treyburn in their custody (Redly). Also, she brought the correct papers. She was fit from working out and kept up with others boys perfectly. In fact, she would have been able to move up ranks if she used her full potential (physically as well as mentally). However, she didn't want to do anything to draw attention to herself. So she paced her improvement based on how the other boys were improving.

Despite not wanting to stand out, Jana loved feeling fit and able to fend for herself. Working out also helped her manage her stress and emotions. So she practiced in secret at night. She started looking forward to nighttime when she could give herself challenges to improve. It was the happiest she had truly been since Reagan was alive.

But all good things have to end, as Jana learned at a young age with her brother. She was caught. (This important event is the one thing that isn't completely thought out yet.) But to make matters worse, she ended up killing someone in defense. It horrified her. Being in the army, she knew she would have to kill someone someday. But the man she had killed? He had only been following orders. He was innocent. And she had killed him. But there wasn't anything she could do anymore. So she ran.

By some stroke of luck, she managed to get away. Away from the base, away from the town, away from everything. She knew she couldn't return home. They would look for her there and even if she got there first, she wouldn't be able to leave once she saw her siblings. So she just kept running.

New Life (23-Present):
Eventually, Jana came upon The Free Folk (link at top). She was quickly accepted into their ranks of criminals. At first she was hesitant to join—after all, it was a group of law breakers. But over time, she discovered that most of them were no better or worse than she was. Her strength got her far in this group, and she became the Crowned Ranger.

During this time, a few important things happened. First off, bounty posters of her face were spread throughout Connloath. It wasn't good for the government to have an escaped criminal. Not only had she cross-dressed and joined the army, but she also killed an officer. The bounty is pretty high, and keeps raising as time passes. Secondly, she decided to keep her hair short despite the bounty posters. She had grown into it, and she found herself feeling more like a boy than a girl. She didn't want to be seen as some weak little innocent thing. She wasn't anymore. Lastly, Jana kept visiting her family. A couple times a year (give or take), she puts on a cloak to cover her hair, wears a dress, and smudges a little dirt on her face. She passes by everybody, authorities included, as just another peasant woman. It's dangerous and she knows that, but she can't stand being without her siblings. However, due to the danger and the long journey, she can't do it often.

Her family, by the way, does know about the crimes she committed. After all, bounty posters everywhere display it. She explained to them what really happened, but, of course, different siblings take it differently.

So yeah. That's Jana's history. Message me if you have any questions.
