IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description

Taltiu's overall appearance can be difficult to pin down- she's sort of cute, a little bit eerie, but mostly just plain odd. She's certainly on the shorter side for a Haevar, and while her long ears could potentially contribute to her height, it's rare to see them fully extended unless she feels that she's being threatened. Her skin, hair, and furred ears all come pretty close to a light tan, but her skin leans toward a darker, honeyed shade while her hair and ears are a lighter, cream-like colour. It is fairly common among Haevar to wear earrings made of bone, and Taltiu is no exception, taking it even further than most by commonly wearing necklaces and bracelets made of the same material.

Taltiu likes to keep her nails sharp, but while they would probably hurt if she attacked someone with them, they're not nearly deadly enough to make reliable weapons. No, she leaves that part to her assorted collection of knives- she's acquired quite a lot of them through various means, and it's not at all uncommon for her to have one (or more) of them on her person at any given time. Her knives serve a variety of different purposes- many of them are used as tools, others are for ritualistic purposes, a few are specifically for self-defence, and some don't appear to have a specific purpose at all- but a lot of them incorporate some sort of intricate design, and all of them are kept very, very sharp. She doesn't typically bother to conceal whichever one(s) she happens to be carrying, finding them a useful deterrent to those who might otherwise have tried to take advantage of her.

Besides her knives, Taltiu usually carries a few other items with her as well. Charms, trinkets, vials filled with various substances, and the like. It's worth noting that some of them give off pleasant aromas, but it isn't immediately obvious what they're actually used for. To many people, it would seem that the only purpose of her collection is simply to look pretty.

Personality

Taltiu is someone who seems to constantly have some sort of guard up. She is slow to trust and open up to others, and there a few reasons why this is the case. For one, Zantaric isn't one of the safer places to live- trusting too easily or showing weakness is bound to get you into some sort of trouble. It's best to keep a safe distance until you know exactly what you're getting into. Even if she figures that a particular person has no ill intentions, though, she'll still try not to get too close to them. There's always the slight chance of someone growing a little too fond of her, which is something that Taltiu knows she wouldn't be able to reciprocate in quite the same way.

Taltiu often deals with self-conflict, struggling with herself over what is "right" and what the best course of action would be. It can be difficult for her to come to a final decision on some things, but that doesn't necessarily mean that she'll be easy to sway- in fact, once she does make her mind up about something, getting her to change it again can be difficult at best and near impossible at worst. She can actually be pretty brave and determined when it comes to something she really believes in, occasionally ignoring warnings from others for doing something they view as foolish.

Magic/Abilities

Like many Haevar, Taltiu was born with the magical ability to communicate with, interact with, and even raise the dead. While she isn't quite as adverse to the idea of reanimating the dead as others of her kind might be, she doesn't often find herself in situations where doing so would be too useful, so that aspect of her abilities has so far gone unused.

While she hasn't exactly been trained in combat, she does know how to use her knives to hunt, and she isn't afraid to use them against potential threats if it came to that.

Relationships

Not many. She doesn't have a Saengi and most of her family still lives on the island.

History

Taltiu's life was rather peaceful and typical of a Haevar during the years leading up to her Coming of Age. She was a bit of a dreamer, excited and anxious to find out who her Saengi might be- the one who would care for her for the rest of her life, and who she would care for in turn. She wanted nothing more than that- at least, that's what she thought at that point in her life- so it understandably hurt when a couple years passed and she still hadn't found the one she was supposed to be looking for.

Not one to be so easily discouraged, though, Taltiu continued to search for her Saengi with the remaining time she had left to find them. There were even a few times when she thought she'd found "the one", but there was always a reason why it wouldn't quite work out. As each potential mate passed, she began to get the feeling that she would never really feel quite the same towards others as they felt towards her, and at the time, that was a terrifying thought.

A couple more years passed, and Taltiu's search grew more desperate. Not having many other options left, she turned to the ancestors for help, seeking their knowledge on the subject. Who was her Saengi? Why was it taking so long for her to find them, despite her best efforts? Why was it so difficult for her to feel something that seemed to come naturally to everyone else she knew? No matter how often she asked, though, the ancestors never seemed to have a clear answer for this particular subject. Eventually, the period of time during which she was supposed to find her mate passed her by.

It took her a while to come to terms with the fact that she hadn't found a Saengi and almost certainly never would, but having her friends and family around did help. They made it known that she was still accepted, mated or not, and that she was still an important member of the community despite her apparent differences. She slowly grew to accept herself for the way she was in time, but she could never shake the feeling that she was still different than the others. So, after a few more years of learning and growing as a person, Taltiu set off on a journey to the mainland. It was never made clear when she would return... if she decided to return at all.
