Forum roleplay isn't a whole lot different from messenger roleplay, so definitely don't be intimidated. SotE is pretty easy going, there aren't many rules to break if you're nice and respectful. I'd recommend making a post in the plotting forum to get going, or PMing people whose threads or characters draw you in.
A wants and limits page can definitely help.
