Klezmer Gryphon

Jy'aad could feel the heat of the sun being amplified through his chain mail shirt. As an archaeologist spending most of his time outside and on excavations, he expected that much. Walking around the site he was overseeing, he could see that the desert heat was getting to the workers, even though it was only noon. At this rate, we won't find anything! he thought, but he knew that the workers needed reprieve from the vicious heat.

Drawing one of his hook swords, he banged it against a nearby rock, trying to get their attention.

"Alright, that's enough for today. You can return to your tents if you please," he said, dismissing the workers to their nearby tents. Jy'aad then went to his own tent, large, and with a table on one side. Sitting down at the table, he looked over the map that lay unrolled on the tabletop, then looked outside at the half buried ruins that made up the site, making sure that the crew was where they were supposed to be. He sat back in his stool, and pulled out his journal, then started scribbling random notes and thoughts on a blank page....

Ethereal-Star

In another section of the desert, but not too terribly far from the excavation site of the ruins, there was a figure bent over something half-buried in the sand. This figure was wearing a bright red dress with matching shoes, her appearance as well as the air around her taking on a slight look of dampness and moisture as though she was not entirely altogether human. For in fact, this being was not human at all, but something else, something quite rare to find these days. The heat did not seem to bother her, for such a thing could not bother a spirit anyway. She wasn't entirely corporeal either, for a slight translucence illuminated her being, rainbow-colored hair trailing down her back as vivid green eyes stared at what she now held in her hands.

Violet stared at the smooth tablet she held in her soft hands, running a hand over the sleek whitish-blue of the marble it was constructed of. On one side were words chiseled into its face of an ancient language she could not decipher at all, obviously the remnants of a past civilization long buried beneath the sands of time. It was quite a beautiful tablet too she realized, turning it over and caressing the other side of it before flipping it back over. The tablet was about six inches in length, and almost that wide at about five inches. The rainbow spirit decided that she wanted to see this go in the hands of someone willing to preserve and honor its beauty that it so rightfully deserved.

She recalled seeing various archaeologists in the area from time to time and thought that this would be a perfect opportunity to go see if she could find one or more. Something of this nature would no doubt interest such a group. As to what it was doing so far from the actual ruins themselves, Violet did not know. Perhaps strong winds had buffeted it here, away from the main part of the site that was still partially standing that is.

Conjuring a rainbow from her outstretched hand, Violet stepped into the array of colors and was promptly transported to the ruins themselves. She saw an excavation group there now, and so started to make her way over there after dismissing the rainbow from view as it faded from sight behind her.
