The Wardens

"We are the Wardens, of all that is known and all that will be known."

The Wardens is an organization based in Serendipity that focuses on the preservation of knowledge. The group actively engages in research and teaching and ventures in expeditions in order to learn and document more about the world and its inhabitants. Many of the worlds most renowned professors, scholars, and other types of academics alike have traveled to Arca in order to join the guild.

Admission into the majority of positions with the Wardens is based on demonstrated knowledge in any subject. Not only professors and scholars are welcome, but anyone who possesses a deep interest in learning and exploration is welcome. Those who show expertise or a specialization in a certain subject are open to being promoted to higher positions. Those who are just looking for the thrill of exploring dangerous areas for lost knowledge are welcome to join as recruits to do all the dirty work and reap the monetary benefits. So all bibliophiles, academics, and adventurers with big aspirations are welcome to join.

History

The group was founded by Dimitri Harkon, with the aid of various professors and scholars based in Serendipity. Originally meant to be a fraternity for fellow professors, scholars, scientists and the like, the group gradually developed a reputation that enticed academics from all over the world to travel to Arca to join. By going on many expeditions, Professor Harkon recovered information and artifacts that would have otherwise been lost to history. As the organization grew, so did the need for a more regimented structure, which began with enlisting a militia. Inviting non-academics into the organization was unpopular initially but proved to be extremely useful in large expeditions.

Another controversial move was appointing Dimitri's son, Rory, to the position of Vice-President, rather than promoting one of his colleagues. The effects of this is still being felt, as there is a rift between those who accept Dimitri's decision and those who question both his and his son's legitimacy. The atmosphere within the Wardens has grown more political and clique based as a result, although all members still retain the spirit of discovery and the pursuit of wisdom.

Political Aims

Though the organization is by nature one based on knowledge, many of its members are quite ambitious. Many have political goals, especially Dimitri Harkon, that are echoed by other members. Some, such as Dimitri, are in favor of a council where each of the houses in all 12 provinces have an equal vote with a neutral third party, such as the president of the Wardens, would preside over as the mediator and tiebreaker. Others wish for the Wardens themselves to have their own governance and territory. Depending on who is spoken to, each member of the Wardens has, at least to some degree, a vision for the political future of the Wardens.

Equipment

Due to the diversity within the Wardens, there are no assigned armor or weaponry. However, all members bear the sigil of the Wardens either integrated into their clothing or on a pendant. Different colors denote different ranks. Recruits wear black, fledglings wear brown and/or silver, researchers wear green, lieutenants wear crimson, the vice-president wears blue, and the president wears scarlet red.
