Rayne had been in hiding for a couple of days, thanks to the help of a local student to the Uthlyn college whom she had befriended during her years of servitude. It was a daring plot to escape the clutches of her captor, and with this young man's help, they just narrowly escaped. They were plotting for the right time to get outside the city, but her captor and his guards caught on quicker than they had hoped.
They found them hiding in an abandoned house, and the young man bought Rayne a few precious seconds to flee by sacrificing himself, slowing them down in the process, but costing him his life.
Rayne bolted from her hiding place just as the sun began to slip below the horizon. She could still hear them looking for her, their voices echoing throughout the streets. This was it, no going back, she either escaped with her life tonight or else it would probably be over for her.
That's when she noticed the guards had managed to shut the gate and put the whole city on lock-down. This was getting way too real, and she needed to come up with a plan, fast.
Quickly running out of options, her only choice is to rely on a local to hide her until dawn, when they can hopefully sneak out.
Slinking through the shadows, she makes her way to the local inn. She takes a big breath, then exhales, and cautiously enters inside.
She makes her way through the inn, looking for someone, anyone, who will take her in and hide her for the night. She promises to make it worth their time.
