Tanhuang / Weal or Woe? (Open!)
February 24, 2021, 06:09:04 PM
The musty, citrusy smoke from frankincense sticks wafts through the small room in which Min-Su sat, their gloved fingers tapping idly on the table in front of them as the spirit watched the door. They were expecting someone later that day for an extended match-making session, but as that was not until later in the afternoon, they were taking walk-in customers for regular fortunes that morning. As it were, business on that front was rather slow; the kumiho was on their second pot of tea, and they only had a couple of their regulars appear. Money was no object to the spirit considering their near total lack of mortal needs, but the lack of clients was proving... rather boring. The masked being's urges to commit small acts of mischief in the streets of Tanhuang were rising, but, thankfully, it seemed that wouldn't be necessary.

The bone chime at the door clatters and rattles as it opens.

"Good morning, my dear. What would you seek from Min-Su today?" the kumiho asks from under their fox-face mask with an unseen smile, reaching over for their teapot and a second cup.

Physical Description

True Form
Like all other kumiho and kitsune, Min-Su in their true form resembles a large, lithe fox with long, wide ears that stands 3'6" at the shoulders, carrying a glass orb in their mouth. The fox spirit's entire body is colored with dark umber fur, with their cheeks, throat and belly a creamy white, and their paws on each leg a brownish-black. Their twelve tails mostly match their back, and are tipped white, with three black stripes on each tail. Min-Su in this form has wisps of spirit fire at the tip of each tail; owing to the pecularity of their existence, six of these wisps are light blue, and the other six are teal. Like many other fox spirits, Min-Su wears a mask, leaving their features obscured; said mask is made of some strange wood from the spirit world, painted white with red markings around the eyes and on the forehead.

Disguised form
Min-Su's disguised "humanoid" form is around average height for the mortals they interact with the most, the Shijie-ren, around 5'6". Their clothing takes aspects from Sheng-Gu and Songtu regional norms, with an elegant silken robe that goes down to their feet held closed with a sash, more typical of Sheng-Gu, over which they wear a flowing, loose jacket more common in Songtu. Unlike either province, however, Min-Su wears a red headscarf to cover their head, and a modified version of their wooden mask over their face. Additionally, they also wear silken gloves to hide their hands. In this form, the fox's glass orb becomes the centerpiece of a necklace of prayer beads, half of which are teal, the other half of which are blue.

Personality
Owing to their being a kumiho, Min-Su's personality is overall mischievous and aloof. They tend to prefer their privacy in personal matters, and while otherwise warm, welcoming and friendly, will eschew intimate connections in favor of social distance, even with people they consider friends; fitting, for one who wears a mask all the time.

Due to their particular situation of being essentially two kumiho stuffed into one body, their personality can differ slightly based on whether the masculine or feminine aspect is fronting.

The masculine aspect of their personality is the more aloof, distant of the two. It tends to make Min-Su more gruff, uncaring and generally more likely to follow their own conscience and desires without regard to other people's opinions or thoughts while it is in front. While certainly far from heartless, the masculine aspect seems to be more stoic and blunt of the two, and tends to make Min-Su impatient and rash.

The feminine aspect of Min-Su's personality, by contrast, is more sociable and caring. It tends to make the kumiho more amicable, warm, and generally more conscious of other people's thoughts and feelings when they're making decisions while it is in front. This aspect makes Min-Su more given to pondering and thought, making them slow down and think about their options before taking action.

Mousefolk

Native Range
Mousefolk live in settlements that dot the Terrin and Kilanthro mountains. In Serendipity, they can also be found along the Ora river, while in Adela they can spotted in the Draconi forest. In Connlaoth, they could be found in the Sirantil valley from time to time, but with the ongoing civil war, many have fled to Serendipity or gone into hiding for fear of purges or persecution.

Physical Characteristics and Styling
Mousefolk are not a tall or muscular race; the tallest members of this race of anthropomorphic mice only come up to a mere 3'11" at most (at shortest, they are around 3'5"), and their build is more toned than bulky. In essence, their body type would be best described as having the proportions of an adult packed into the small frame of a child. They are covered almost completely in fur bar their shins and feet, forearms and hands, and tails, which are covered in fine, delicate hairs that are almost unnoticeable to the naked eye.

Murine fur color ranges from dark grey to snow white, but the most common hue to find among this race is chestnut brown. For males, their hair is typically cropped flush with their fur in the back, but allowed to grow shaggy in the top and sides; variations on this haircut allow for one side to be worn long and kept in a braid, although this is viewed as a more effeminate styling in most circles. For females, the hair is allowed to grow long, almost down the middle of the back, and is normally kept up in a bun or chignon, but braids and curls are not uncommon among more well-to-do mousefolk women in urban areas.

Clothes among mousefolk fall along the lines of trousers and knee-length tunics with a belt for men, and ankle-length dresses for women. Popular colors includes greens, light blues, and reds; darker, richer colors such as purple or black are usually not worn except during formal occasions and only on small articles like scarves or sashes. Mousefolk do not generally wear shoes or footwear of any sort, although sandals are not unheard of in rough terrain.

General Attitudes
Mousefolk live fairly short lives compared to other races. On average, most mice only live around 50 years; while they are capable of living longer, their lives are often cut short by the injustices of their neighbors, who, depending on the race in question, might treat them as the vermin they resemble. As such, long lived individuals are rarity that are often treasured. This short lifespan fills most mousefolk with a sense of urgency and a desire to achieve. Laziness and sloth are seen as dire conditions, while studious and efficient individuals are held in high esteem. Compared to other races, they might seem impatient or pushy.

Mousefolk are curious and adventurous, but also loyal and steadfast companions. They find grudges and long-standing feuds to be a waste of their already short time in this world, and find the generations-long rivalries of dwarf, elf and some human families utterly baffling. As an extension of this, mousefolk in general are more likely to show mercy and compassion to strangers, and can be quite given to generosity when they can afford it.

Individual mousefolk are often inquisitive and playful; even the most steadfast and stoic of mousefolk adventurers have a penchant for pranks, jokes, and harmless fun. Their sense of urgency gives them in life gives a mouse adventurer an undeniable determination to succeed, and an almost bottomless well of optimism. It is very hard to totally crush their spirits, as their optimism and determination just keeps pushing them onward in the face of even the staunchest of adversities.

Views on Magic
Given their laid-back attitides, mousefolk are generally accepting of the magic-users in their midst, rare though they might be. Most mousefolk magic users fall into either druids, who derive their magic use from nature itself, or from a nature deity, or warlocks who make a pact with a patron archfae for magical power in return for some sort of service; it is quite rare for mousefolk to be born with innate magical ability, and can be a good cause for celebration when any one such individual is found. Depending on where a mousefolk settlement might be (with the exception of Connlaoth) and what area of magic they focus, these magic users might be shamans, healers, or scholars.

Sexuality and Gender
Among the mousefolk, men and women work most any job they would like to; the only expectation is that they be competent, lest they be laughed out of their profession. Similarly, family roles in the home are fairly relaxed; one partner generally does do much of the heavy labor and the other more of the handicraft and cooking and there is no social stigma if those roles overlap or flip-flop. On gender identity, the mousefolk are live and let live; if someone is transgender, the only thing the mousefolk will care about is making sure they can still work. Sexuality is much the same way; they don't care who one sleeps with, so long as they're not a detriment to the community. In more conservative settlements, however, queer mousefolk often keep their sexual preferences under wraps to avoid certain social stigmas.

Society
Mousefolk society is very much tribal and family-centered; households can span several generations and it isn't uncommon for a family to have the same house or couple of houses through multiple generations. With this in mind, kinship and familial honor are core values of mousefolk society; there is a sense of duty to the family and to the tribe as a whole. To bring shame or dishonor onto one's family is a grave sin, and can lead to ostrisization and even exile from one's village.

Most mousefolk towns and settlements are largely agrarian with little industrialization; there might be a town blacksmith or two, but more advanced metalworking beyond tools and simple weapons is a rarity. With their values of kinship in mind, much of the farmland surrounding a town of mousefolk is held in common by the entire community; crops from these fields are stored communally and distributed as needed. Most families will also have a small garden of herbs and vegetables for private use and to barter with, as most settlements work on a bartering system than standardized coinage. Governments within these settlements are entirely democratic; on major issues and crises, the entire town will convene a gathering and hold debates on the best solution until a consensus among the majority is reached.

As far as religious beliefs go, there are two main aspects to bear in mind: archfae worship and ancestor worship. Most mousefolk villages will have either a shrine to a patron archfae or a shrine to deceased ancestors in the town center, depending on the town in question. The most common form of both fae and ancestor worship among mousefolk is the offering of libations to their patron archfae or familial ancestors. Other common rituals include ritual dust baths with the ashes of their ancestors around sacred times of the year, and dancing around or in rings of mushrooms during a full moon (a common argument between mousefolk elders is whether one should dance in or around the mushroom rings). As a general note: fae worship is more important among Serenian and Adelan mousefolk, while ancestor worship takes the forefront among Connlaothian mousefolk.

It had been a stressful, almost dizzying few weeks for Evander. It had started with what seemed like a normal day, or what had been normal for the past several months; supplies at the guild's storehouse were low, like had become usual thanks to a series of missing shipments this season. However, upon arriving at the storehouse, the gryphon was greeted by a letter addressed to him stuck under the wooden gate. The company was running low on funds for another trip to Essyrn and unless outside funding was secured, operations in the desert city would be seen as too costly to continue.

Enter the present day. Evander, being the trade company's local liaison and the most knowledgeable of Essyrni culture, was tasked with finding said funding. Weeks of asking around, sending letters, and requisitioning resources had culminated in what the gryphon would hope to be an opportunity to find a business partner.

He gazed over the main room of his humble abode as the sun began to set in the western sky; it wasn't much, but it would have to do with his limited resources. With the help of a friend earlier that day, he had managed to arrange the room into a long, low-lying table surrounded by cushions. His ears and tail flickered nervously as the hired servant laid out what in rural, coastal Adela would have been seen as an opulent feast; a main course of fresh fish sliced into thin slivers and wrapped around strips of cucumber, shredded carrots and chopped herbs, rolled in salt and freshly ground black pepper, several, more local side offerings including grain and parsley salads and platters of dates, grapes and figs. Would it be enough for his expected company?

Almost completely lost in his worries, the feathers on the back of the gryphon's neck stood tall as he heard the first knock on the door. Oh dear... are they already here? he thought. It was time to see if his idea of asking some of the merchant princes for money would pay off or not...

Taking his place at the head of the prepared table, Evander had his hired servant for the night answer there door. With a deep breath, he collected his thoughts and put a slight grin in the corners of his beak as the first few of his guests arrived.

"Good evening, ladies and gentlemen." he said in fluent, almost perfect, Essyrni.

Caw-caw, mother-flockers! It's ya boi Klezmer here, and I have been away for FAR TOO LONG!

Anyway, I've got a cute little mousie bard Leofwine who primarily travels around Serendipity, and he needs some plot love! Open to most things with him, be that shenanigans or more serious plots.

Additionally, I've got my gryphon Evander whose profile I gave a massive overhaul some months ago. He also needs some plot love. He's a trader and merchant down in Essyrn working with a caravan company in Adela. Also open to most things with him.

It is good to be back, and hopefully this turns into something good! :D

Wants and Limits / Limits and Wants v2!
May 27, 2019, 06:56:36 PM
PLAYER WANTS

What types of plots are you interested in playing?
For the most part, adventures and general social threads interest me the most, just seeing how two characters interact with each other. Combat threads just for the sake of combat, however, are not very interesting.

What types of plots are you not interested in playing?
I'm not really into casual plots involving gods or demons, as they, I think, are just by nature better suited for things on a larger scale than just some random adventure with a stranger.

How often can you reply to any given thread?
Usually within a couple weeks, although my mental and emotional state can often affect this. While I have no problem with prodding and checking in after a couple weeks, please understand that I have to be in a specific state of mind to write clear, decent responses to role-play threads.

What is the longest you're willing to wait for a reply to a thread?
Basically as long as you take to reply. I am a patient gryphon!

Are you open to RPing over instant messengers? If so, what's the best way to contact you and what times are you generally available?
Never tried it.

Are you open to post volleying?
I wouldn't mind, although don't expect it to happen very often.

Anything else?
For future reference: I try to provide at least a couple decent sized paragraph in my replies. I'd like to at least see more than just a couple of sentences in yours! I also like seeing clear, concise writing, so please don't be vague with settings and such.

PLAYER LIMITS

What are you limits regarding powerplay/godmoding?
Absolutely not acceptable unless there is a good plot reason for it. Like most of my limits here, this is less a hard limit and more something I would prefer to talk about beforehand.

What are your limits in regards to romantic situations?
No problems with romance, just read the below statement....

What are your limits in regards to sex?
If a romantic relationship gets to a point where the characters involved would possibly start engaging in sexual activity, I would prefer such activity to be implied. I am not comfortable with writing sexually explicit material on a public forum, even if such material is marked with "Mature".

What are your limits in regards to pregnancy within plots?
Depends on the circumstance, but generally speaking I am not comfortable with character pregnancy unless it is a necessary element for character development.

What are your limits in regards to violent scenes?
I have no problems, just keep the gore to a reasonable level

What are your limits in regards to abuse/rape in plots?
I have no qualms with abuse, so long as it serves a plot purpose. I prefer to avoid anything terribly extreme whenever possible. Please ask when thinking about such ideas.

Are you okay with characters being transformed against their will?
I'd prefer if I was asked first.

What about healing?
I have no problem, just inform me beforehand as to what you're doing.

Anything else?
I'd just like to ask that you respect my limits. That's all.

Serendipity / Leofwine; travelling bard

__________________QUICK STATS
Name: Leofwine
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Species: Mousefolk
Ethnicity: N/A
Height: 3'8"
Weight: 85 lbs.
Occupation: Bard
Residence: Travels around Serendipity, with occasional forays into Connlaoth

__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Leofwine is not the tallest of mousefolk, which is saying something for a race of anthropomorphic rodents that barely reach 4'0" at their tallest, standing at a mere 3'8", but he is at least somewhat handsome by mousefolk standards, with white fur, silver hair and orange-brown eyes. He often wears his hair cropped short on one side, with the top left shaggy and the right side twisted into a braid.

Leofwine often wears a red tunic with yellow stripes on the sleeves and a brown doublet over that. His trousers are grey, and he usually does not wear any footwear. He can usually be seen wearing a floppy beret-like hat with a red feather sticking out the back.

Personality
Leofwine is a passionate artist and kind soul. He is quite witty, seeming to have a story relevant to almost any situation one can think of, and loves a good joke or two even it's directed at him. That said, he has a problem keeping his feelings hidden and his mouth shut, which more often than not lands him in trouble with people.

Magic/Abilities
Musicianship:
Leofwine is a bard of average talent, able to pluck out more than few standards on his lute during a night's performance at a tavern. More complicated pieces, while not beyond his abilities, would require substantial practice.

Swordsmanship:
Equally average is Leofwine's ability with a sword. He's gotten into a few scuffles with his temper, and his broadsword has saved his tail several times in the past. He'd be no match for trained guards or knights, but despite his reach disadvantage he can hold his own against your average thug.

Plotting Center / Looking for some plots!
February 18, 2018, 08:20:21 PM
So, recently gave my character Evander a big ol' facelift. He's a merchant and trader living in Essyrn, and while I do have some larger plot ideas in mind for him down the road, I'd like to first maybe explore the day to day aspects of his life, maybe establish some friendships and rivalries along the way. If you're interested, you can reply here, shoot me a PM or ping me on Discord!

Absences/Returns / A bit of an overdue return
December 26, 2017, 02:18:43 PM
To those of you who know me from years gone by (or through chatting with me on Discord), I've finally got things in real life in order enough to, hopefully, make a comeback here! To those of you who may not know me or might be reading this as a new member, hello and welcome to SotE! I missed this place and all the wonderful people I used to write and build stories with.

Essyrn / Remembering Days Gone By (PM to join!)
March 02, 2017, 08:09:30 AM
A long, dreary sigh rolled out of Evander's beak as he slumped against the clay wall of the alley, staring out into the hustle and bustle of the Essyrni marketplace with a twinge of misery in his eyes. A little over two years ago, he would have been sitting at one of those stalls, pedaling his wares alongside his fellow traders. That was the past. Ever since his escape from bondage several months ago, he had lived the life of a pauper; begging and scavenging were his way of life, having to fight with stray dogs and rats for scraps of meat and bread crusts. His feathers and fur, once vibrant and gleaming, were now haggard and dull from malnutrition and neglect.

"Oh, why does Fate hate me so...?" the griffon moaned, oily tears beginning to stream down his face as reminiscence and nostalgia yanked at his heartstrings.

Selevea / Oh, Water of Life.... (Open)
December 11, 2016, 03:29:59 PM
A final resounding minor chord from Leporello's harp fluttered through the boisterous crowd as the rabbit bard walked into the boisterous tavern from the odorous, packed streets of Selevea. No one seemed to notice his entrance as everyone seemed to be occupied with their reckless gambling and drunken dancing, which garnered a sigh of relief from his lips as he walked over to a table in the far corner, his harp slung haphazardly behind his back. The moon in the night sky was full, and he was in a foul enough mood as it was; the last thing he needed was to get dragged into a set of reels and jigs with the horribly out-of-tune fiddler they had sawing away by the bar.

With a sigh, he silently signaled for a rather distressed waitress and quickly ordered the cheapest whiskey they carried in back, plopping a pile of coin in her hand as he took the whole bottle when she came back. While getting drunk was almost impossible for the moon spirit, alcohol was about the only thing that he knew of which would make the night go by faster...

Art by me, Klezmer Gryphon
[close]

Personality
Leporello is the fun-loving, bawdy sort who quite frankly doesn't give a damn if his joke about the Essyrni barmaid offended anyone. He's a warm, lively fellow with an eloquent manner of speech and a genuine generosity usually found only among saints. A razor-sharp wit and a quick mind make him a utilitarian comedian, as he mocks all trades and walks of life, be they a noble prince or a worthless beggar. That being said, there is a deep-seated tinge of remorse and anger in his voice which rises to the surface every now and again with the coming of the full moon. During these bouts of depression, Leporello is irritable and violent, and tends to drown his misery in liquor and gambling, which often turns his sharp wit into a weapon unto itself.

Magic/Abilities
Moon Spirit – Leporello is a moon spirit, and has several passive and active abilities based around the moon and the lunar cycle, as well as general knowledge and of the magical arts of lunar society.

  • Ethereal vs. Corporeal Form
Just as the moon waxes and wanes, so too does Leporello's body and powers change while on the earth. During the waxing phases of the moon, the moon spirit's body is more corporeal due to an increase in lunar spiritual energy and his physical powers, such as light conjuration become more dominant during the night. On nights where the moon is waning and there is a new moon, Leporello's body becomes more ethereal due to a decrease in lunar spiritual energy, and his spiritual abilities such as astral projection and divination become dominant; because he is a spirit, he is not really supposed to be in the physical plane during the new moon and its lack of spiritual essence due to the lack of the anchor in the physical plane he had while on the moon, but he remedies that problem with a piece of moonstone around his neck.
    • Waxing Phase Abilities
During the waxing phases of the moon, Leporello's abilities are more physical in nature, allowing him to conjure structures and objects made of crystallized moonlight; these conjurations are harder than diamond and more durable than the best steel blade. In the realm of restoration, Leporello's healing magics are more powerful under a waxing moon which not only lets him heal others faster and more completely, it gives Leporello an increased healing factor, allowing him to take grievous injury and patch it back up in a matter of seconds. These abilities are their strongest during a full moon.
    • Waning Phase Abilities
During the waning phases of the moon, Leporello's abilities are more spiritual in nature, allowing him the ability to cross into the astral plane among other things. While in the astral plane, he can speak with other hidden spirits and open portals between the physical and astral realms for others to enter or leave. The other major ability in this state is Leporello's power of divination; he can see possibilities of the future, but will never be sure which one will come true.
  • Constellification
A word that Leporello made up when first describing the ability to a mage he was traveling with, constellification is the act whereby Leporello becomes a constellation in the night sky, moving slowly through space for a few hours before turning back into his physical form in another location. This ability is indigenous to moon spirits, and is used as a means of  long-distance travel. The only downside is that it must be night time before Leporello can use this ability on earth.
Relationships
Muintara - Former reigning goddess of the moon and Leporello's former patroness. Overthrown and executed by the current reigning moon god Zarath.

Zarath - Current reigning god of the moon. Holds the number one spot on the list of people Leporello wants to bury alive in the collective consciousness of the astral plane.

History
Leporello began his existence as a moon spirit some several centuries prior to the fall of Fell. While he rarely talks about his past in great detail, he does take great pride in the fact that he was one of the favorite court musicians for the goddess Muintara. When Zarath, a rival god began to vie for power, Leporello was the one who informed the goddess of her enemy's plan, but she preferred the diplomatic option... and got the sword in return. For a few decades after Muintara's overthrow, Leporello stayed in Zarath's court, quietly lamenting the tragic end of his mistress's demise... and brewed a deep-seated spite for the reigning god. He began making veiled criticism in his songs for the god behind a cheeky grin and perked up ears, and soon got himself thrown out of Zarath's court for his antics. Zarath, not feeling this was enough, decided to get rid of the rabbit bard for good and threw him off the moon, down to the earth below. A few ancient accounts described a falling star striking an old dwarf stronghold.... That was Leporello. For now, he wanders the earth, singing his songs and telling tall tales. However, old grudges die hard in this one....

__________________QUICK STATS
Name Tàrocai Mhuìcaduir
Nickname(s) Tòrai
Age 15
Gender Male
Species Damhnait
Ethnicity N/A
Height 5'4"
Occupation None
Residence The streets of Reajh

__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Tòrai would a rather handsome young creature, were he not covered filth constantly; his dark brown fur is often covered in dust and dirt, especially around his eyes and snout. Dark green eyes are Tàrocai's trademark, and have earned him some compliments over the years from a few ladies who were otherwise revolted by his presence. His antlers, although not as big as an adult from his species, are still impressive for his age and compliment the lightly toned build under his fur. Despite this handsome appearance, Tòrai was stricken with a prominent limp in his right leg at a young age, forcing him to walk with a cane.

Tàrocai's clothing is nothing short of simple; he wears an old pair of sack cloth trousers with several patches and holes along the legs, held up by a belt made from a length of rope. He lacks a shirt, and refuses to sell his mother's haghcùtyi* to buy one.

Personality
Tàrocai is a calm, collected individual who prefers to think things through before coming to a decision. That being said, though likable and well-spoken for someone of his age and social status, Tàrocai is stubborn and hates compromise when it's clearly the wrong way to go about things. Despite his calm demeanor, Tàrocai gets frustrated easily when things don't go as planned.

Magic/Abilities
Water Magic – Tàrocai has very minor control over water; due to being a mage in Connlaoth, he doesn't have much opportunity to practice. His powers mainly flare up when he is frustrated, angry or upset at something.

Relationships
Rin Solari – His best friend and fellow street urchin, Rin is like a younger sister to Tàrocai and he'd do anything to keep her safe.

Notes
*Haghcùtyiac are a form of Damhnait totem, often circular wood charms intricately carved and embedded with a precious stone at the center. Tàrocai's haghcùtyi has a trapiche emerald at its center, and is also decorated with griffon feathers.

Draconi Forest / Words of the Past (PM before joining)
September 15, 2016, 08:14:27 PM
(( Disclaimer: This is a thread for the event Darkened Skies. Please refer to the page linked for all information regarding this event before joining.))

The blue serpent's eyes shifted from one line of text to another on the worn, moss-ridden face of marble that stood in front of him, his claw running under his gaze to guide his reading, the gentle roar of the river behind him tuned out almost completely as he read. The old giant stones that dotted the landscape of Adela were of great interest to Zeyavuul, who often gazed upon the worn, faded etchings upon their surface with a fanatical wonder. The records of his kind, the chronicles of their myths and legends, all recorded on these obelisks in a tongue since long forgotten by all but a few. The young river dragon took it upon himself to copy these stories and preserve the monuments his ancestors had left before, to leave traces of what had once come before.

The dragon's claw stopped as he squinted at one word, nêkaavir, an inquisitive look taking hold in his pale green eyes. He had seen the word before on several other stelae in the mountainous areas in reference to rivers, and thought it was merely a regional loan from the language of the local gryphons, but seeing it on a stone in the forest was making him rethink that hypothesis.

"Interesting..." he muttered, his long tail swishing from side to side, "The ancients sure like give a lot to think about." With deep breath, Zeyavuul returned to his reading of the old mossy monument, the dragon's deep voice carrying for a quite a bit as he spoke aloud, "Iem tâagnen'aldt, weim nêkaavirnen waêrke balwê..."

As a result of his kind living in the rivers of Le'Raana for as long as anyone can remember, his scales are a dark green-blue with a creamy beige underbelly, and his eyes are a pale yet piercing shade of green.

Personality
Zeyavuul is a well-mannered and peaceable creature; like most of the rivers he swims in, Zeyavuul is even-tempered and mild, prefering reason and dialogue to violence. The dragon is also the curious sort and loves to meet new people, although he will readily ignore those who disrepect him or his kind. That being said, Zeyavuul is not a pacifist, and will vigirously defend those he finds to be friends, even if he might not swim away from the encounter.

Magic/Abilities
Water Breath- An ability found within his subspecies of dragon, Zeyavuul has the ability to breathe a concetrated stream of sea water at his enemies, as opposed to the normal jet of flame typical of dragons. A spout of salt water forms the basis for this attack, travelling out of the dragon's mouth at about the same speed and force as a large waterfall. The main drawback is that Zeyavuul must consume a large amount of water reguarly to keep this ability at its maximum effectiveness.

Underwater Breathing- With a set of gills on the base of his neck, Zeyavuul can breathe under water almost indefinitely. The only drawback is that if he hasn't been in the rivers recently, his body will take a moment to adjust to breathing in through his gills again.

Dâag-yuul- Zeyavuul's family reaches back for generations, back to the earliest known dragons. As his family's historian, Zeyavuul is fluent in dâag-yuul, the language that the oldest draconic inscriptions are written in. While he primarily uses his language skills to aid scholars looking for insight into history of dragons, there are numerous old steles and obelisks dotting the land with carvings in the old tongue that arouse his curiosity.

Adela / Tudor Botterill; Aspiring Adventurer
September 04, 2016, 12:56:41 PM
__________________QUICK STATS
Name Tudor Botterill
Age 23 seasons
Gender Male
Species Mouse-kin
Height 3'4"
Occupation Adventurer Woodsman
Residence Small village in Adela

__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Tudor is a short anthropomorphic mouse who comes up to 3'4" (not including his ears), with the face being a mouse comes with; large round ears, big, beady brown eyes, and a cute little nose with long whiskers on either side. His body is covered in light brown fur that fades to creamy white towards his cheeks, throat and belly. Although he doesn't particularly need them to keep warm or cool, Tudor dons a simple green tunic that ends at the middle of his thighs and a plain leather belt with a couple pouches on it for carrying things. On his person at all times, though, is his copper axe he uses to fell trees (perhaps even giants one day?).

Personality
Tudor is the hard-working sort who puts all his effort into whatever he's doing, and will not be satisfied with anything less. He's also a nice, cheerful mouse that loves the company of friends and the camaraderie found in the taverns after a hard day's worth of labor. That being said, Tudor also gets bored with his labor as a woodsman, and dreams of grand adventures and traveling to far off places. His friends call him crazy, but Tudor thinks that there are still legends to be written yet.

Magic/Abilities
Tudor is not a mage (as far as he's aware, anyway), but his ability with an axe and overall work ethic more than make up for that. While bandits aren't a common occurrence in his neck of the wood, the few times he's had to fend off the odd pair of vagabonds have ended with said vagabonds running away after being disarmed and knocked silly by a weapon that looks like it should be in a museum. That being said, his skill would be no match for a professional soldier or knight, which, coupled with his desire not to really hurt anyone (unless they've earned it), makes him a fairly easy opponent.

Guilds / The Restwood Inn (Rebooted)
August 30, 2016, 07:01:46 PM

The Restwood Inn is a small inn located in the city of La'Marri. Run by the lovely Liarri Delmoire, the inn has gained a reputation for being high class and homely, while keeping it's prices low to accommodate the weary travelers passing through town. For this reason, the inn has been the stop of choice for many journeyers who were tempted to take their business elsewhere.

The inn itself is rather simple in design: a solid stone foundation keeps the whole building planted, with the planked wood walls and thatch roof held up by thick timbres. Inside, one will find a central hearth, surrounded by four benches for guests. To the right, there is the front counter where one can order food and drink, and rent a room for the night. To the left, there are a couple of doors leading to the ground floor rooms (usually reserved for members of the Runner's Society), and a staircase up to the second floor, where one will find four rooms available for rent.

Liarri is always looking for help around the inn, although she'd prefer that potential employees leave the magic acts at the door. Getting hired is easy enough; just ask Liarri about the position you'd like. Chances are she's in need of someone in that spot.

Notes
This organization is meant for casual and perhaps goofy threads, and while more dramatic plots are certainly welcome, just realize that most plots won't be very serious.

Some potential ideas if you're making a fresh character for this might be a chef, a clerk to help with paperwork, a host/hostess, or really anything you think might belong in the inn (just run it by me first if it's something odd or outlandish :) )

The Thunderblacks / Oh, uh... Hi....
August 10, 2016, 07:44:11 AM
(( @CherryFlare ))
Rain was nothing new to Shamgar. It was just another part of nature, another thing that came and went whenever Fate decided. That didn't make it any less tolerable for the gryphon as his paws and talons trudged through the muddy trail of the mountain path. Thick sheets of water pouring down kept him confined to the ground, each drop that impacted his wings adding just that much more time he'd have to spend preening and drying his plumage before he'd be airworthy again.

Visibility was nil to none that night. The moon was hiding behind a thick sheet of clouds and the downpour made it seem the world at the moment was wearing a veil to hide itself from him; the only light Shamgar had was the occasional flicker of lightning in the night. The gryphon began to regret not listening to the innkeeper when she said there'd be a bad storm within the next few days, because she was more than right about that. Regardless of how stupid he felt, staying out in the deluge was not an option...

Whether through just blind luck, or fate, Shamgar soon found himself looking at the entrance of a rather sizable cave. With nothing to lose other than the rain, the soaked gryphon hurried inside his newfound sanctuary of stone, huddling down in a large ring of stalagmites and flowstone as his bed for the evening. While he would have done better to have first analyzed his new surroundings, Shamgar, drenched with rain and weary from travel, soon found himself drifting off to sleep to the voluminous echoes of the storm outside.

La'marri / Take a seat, good fellow
August 08, 2016, 04:46:11 PM
(( @Valyras  ))
Rays of sunlight filtered through the open shutters of Pippin's small cottage, gently illuminating the quaint central room as the griffon gently flipped through the pages of an open book, a half eaten quince sitting next to it on the low lying table. A single talon slid daintily across the parchment as the red feathered creature's eyes pored over the page in front of them, only stopping to make a note on a spare quire. He hardly read anything other than magical texts and treatises, but a recent trip to the library found him walking out with a history of La'Marri and it's surrounding area.

Taking a bite out of his quince, Pippin looked up from the pages of his book and peeked at the water clock he had sitting across the room. His eyebrows raised in shock. Five o'clock already? Dâlaoki! he cursed silently, closing his book with a dejected sigh. Dinner would have to be one of the left over puddings his neighbor brought over. He tossed the quince out the open window and walked over to the cabinet in the corner, rumaging through it without a thought as to what might be behind him.

QUICK STATS
Name: Demosthenes
Age: 320
Gender: Male
Species: Mountain Griffon
Height:    3'7" at the shoulder
Occupation: Enchanter and Scholar
Residence: An old library just south of the main ruins of Fell

IN-DEPTH STUFF
Physical Description
Demosthenes is on the smaller end of the scale for a griffon, at 3'7" at the shoulders, but like the rest of his kinfolk, has a body built like that of a lion, and a head, a pair of wings, tail feathers and talons that resemble those on an eagle with pointy ears similar to those of a horse. The feathers on his head and neck are a dark brown which fades to creamy white the closer one gets to his belly, blending in with the tan fur of his hind quarters. On his wings, the covert and tertial feathers are the same colour as his head, while the primary and secondary feathers start out brown at their base, but transition to dark beige towards the tips. The griffon's beak, talons, and tail feathers are all an inky black hue, and his large eyes are deep, glimmering silver.

Personality
Demosthenes has lived a long while, long enough to have seen several squabbles in Adela over the crown, multiple Grand Dukes rise and fall in Connlaoth, and all too many explorers trying to venture into the ruins that lie beyond his storied hall. He's never one for talking about his past; a lot of it is stained in blood, and would bring back memories the griffon would rather forget. He was a warrior, a scholar, a celebrator, a mourner, a friend, an enemy.... So many roles Demosthenes has played over his life, it weighs heavily on him when he has to remember all the faces of loved ones he has lost, all the people who have since been buried in the dirt.

Demosthenes is cynical and bitter with life, an old fool, if you will... But a level headed and empathetic old fool. He is not one to turn down a stranger in need, but his outward kindness to travelers is limited to superficial courtesies. One cannot fault him for that; a thick layer of emotional scars surround his heart, making it hard for him to take any attempt at connecting with him on an emotional level at face value. While Demosthenes has grown to disdain violence in general, he concedes that ultimately there are cases where words and reason alone cannot attain the desired outcome.

Powers/Abilities
Demosthenes has no magical ability in the traditional sense; he cannot cast spells or incantations, nor can he directly control magical energy. What Demosthenes does possess, however, is an extensive knowledge of magical runes, signs and sigils. Years of living in ruins covered in ancient carvings have has given the griffon insight into the hidden, magical power behind the symbols, and through years of concurrent experimentation has overcome his lack of casting ability with the powers of enchanting and scroll-making using runes. Both offer the benefits of actually casting spells in their full power, but have the downside of usually being either being timely to create (in the case of enchanted objects such as jewelry, swords, etc.) or one-use items (in the case of scrolls).
