CH. I – Painting a Portrait
A man of moderate height, Caelwyn has always been a slender man of a lithe build.  His heritage extends from Connlaothian, Serenian, and Essyrni descent, and one quarter elf from his maternal grandmother’s side.  He has little of his Connlaothian father’s barrel-chested figure and has more of his Serenian and Essyrni form, with tanned flesh, dirty blonde hair, and a leanly built body.  He is strong however, for his size and weight.  Hair length falls approximately to his shoulders and is usually pulled back in a loose ponytail to keep it out of his face.  He does not grow any excessive amounts of body hair on his person save for a little on his chest, arms and legs, and bits inbetween, a token of his Elvish blood.  His hair has a slight wave to it, curls a little at the ends.

Caelwyn is not always as delicate as he looks.  He doesn’t often care about how he looks, as long as he’s able bodied and relatively healthy.  The only thing he really worries about the upkeep on is shaving, as he doesn’t like to look like caveman as much as he likes delving into them.

+ NOTABLE MARKS +
Being prone to jumping into dark ruins without regard isn’t without its rewards.  While Caelwyn doesn’t have many scars, he does have a long cut on the underside of his left forearm from a gash and falling on a sharp stone.   It runs from his wrist to just an inch short of his elbow, and a few other scrapes along his left side, also from the fall.

CH II – Mental Make-up
Curious to a fault, Caelwyn is an ambitious scholar who doesn’t let anything stand in the way of his academic pursuits.  While not as mousy or bookish as might be expected of a young man with his interests, Caelwyn has always preferred a more hands-on approach to learning.  And by that, I mean, he loves to delve deep into dark cavernous ruins without caution or care of his own. He’s fascinated with history, language and the study of lost and ancient cultures, finding ancient artifacts, and anything and everything to do with it.  When on the scent of a great find, can be prone to manic behavior.

He’s literate and well-read and just a bit of a show off.  Even in ordinary conversation, he could go on and on about his findings, notes, studies, or theories, or even random knowledge he’s collected and stored away for ‘just-in-case’.  He has an awkward sense of humor and an eye for detail.  As nice as the attention is, he doesn’t do it solely for that reason; he is well-aware of his intellect and what he’s capable of.

However, he is as foolish as he is brilliant.  Caelwyn’s intellect does not usually lend itself to anything practical or sensible, and he can often come off as quite arrogant, and insensitive.  He is polite as can be, raised to be a gentleman, but that doesn’t mean he’ll always say the right thing; easily coming off as a jerk, whether he knows it or not.  It isn’t necessarily on purpose, but those that are willing to tolerate his behavior and attitude are few and far between.  Admittedly, it can be quite hard to resist the urge to punch him in the face otherwise.

+ FAITH +
While not a vocal atheist, Caelwyn isn’t exactly outspoken about his devotion to any deity in particular.  His study into ancient cultures doesn’t allow him the luxury of being able to deny them completely.  He enjoys discovering what people saw in worshipping gods and what those gods provided for their people.  His mother was a devout follower of Kia and a few nature spirits, and he will on occasion give an offering to mother nature and even Kia.  Though this is more out of respect for his mother than for any real devotion on his part.

+ HABITS +
Caelwyn is a part-time smoker when he needs to relax or think more on something.  It is a habit he’s been trying to kick for at least ten years, but he always seems to fall back into it.  He is not much of a drinker, however, and will on occasion, enjoy a glass of wine or a pint of ale.  He prefers to drink alone, or with close company – if such a thing even exists.

CH IV – Abilities / Skills
+ BOXING +
Cael has never been much of a wholly skilled fighter, and was never one to willingly jump into the fray.  He took an interest in boxing when he was younger, mostly for exercise and to fend off those more violently, but less intellectually inclined than he, when he was a boy.  While it’s not his first choice, and if he can avoid a fight he will, but he can at least adequately defend himself.

*Additional skills include slight athleticism, quick reading, affinity for languages, and being a big fat jerk.

CH V – Gear / Equipment
+ RING OF ILLUSION +
Because fighting is not always his first choice, Caelwyn has found a clever way of avoiding enemies in his enchanted ring of illusion.  While it is not complete invisibility, it places a chameleon like effect on its wearer to allow them to blend into their environment and allow them to still manipulate physical objects.  It creates a semi-visible blur around them, cloaking them from obvious sight.

+ DAGGER +
A ‘Just-in-case’ item that he carries on his belt, often beside his bag where he also carries his journal, spare parchment, ink, quill, charcoal, and an inspection glass.  It is quite sharp and very plain, and measure just under a foot in length from hilt to tip.

CH VI – Reflections of the Past
Caelwyn Caye was born squashed between 9 sisters, the only boy in a household of 12.  As the middle child, Cael didn’t have the easiest of childhoods, but at least there was almost always something interesting to do.  Up until the age of five his older sisters pretended he was one of them and dressed him up in girly clothes and their mother’s powder and lip-tint.  His father, though Connlaothian, was a good-hearted man with a sense of humor and encouraged this behavior at least until Caelwyn was old enough to understand the concept of humiliation.

Weiland Caye was a man of comfortable wealth after finishing his service in the Connlaothian army and decided to travel south to see the world.  He took some of his wealth with him and put it to work by buying a farm and put it into a derelict mine nearby his new homestead.  Varna Caye was an alchemist and professor at the local college in the midsized city of Ashton where they had met through a mutual friend over an unusual sample of ore.

Caelwyn was always as a smart lad and was taught by some of the finest private tutors in all the province, like the rest of his siblings.  It was much easier however for him to make friends with older mature people than with children his own age.  It wasn’t all too uncommon for him to run home from a mob of boys wanting to make themselves feel better about who they were by taking their misery out on him.  They punched, kicked, shoved, and threw rocks at him and many other things.  At least he could often rely on his older sisters to defend him and chase off those bullies foolish enough to get too close to his family manor.  Theodosia in particular, with whom he was closest too of them all.

When he was approximately thirteen, his father urged him to take up boxing as a sport, and Cael quickly fell into it both a means of practicing his focus, and unleashing his frustrations.  He became quite good at it and between that and his studies, he had little time for anything else.  One day when he and Theodosia, Sorena, and Rowena decided to take an excursion to their father’s mine, after business hours, Caelwyn had gotten lost inside.  For hours his siblings had searched for him in vain until, in the last place they expected, they found him sitting in a corner transcribing the contents of a newly excavated chamber into his notebook, claiming to not have heard their calling his name or cries of alarm.

Weiland was furious at the boy, having planned for him to grow and take over the family farm and business, but quickly saw that he could not sway his son from his thirst for knowledge, and soon supported Caelwyn in his academic pursuit.  Caelwyn had grown into an awkward young man when he went off to study at the college in of Darken Vei and three other subsequent universities.  He was kicked out of three of them for various reasons that spanned from proving flaws in research, complaints regarding incompetent management, nearly destroying sections of a building on school grounds with unstable experiments, disturbing the study of other students, and being just an all-around pain in the ass.  He eventually earned his certifications, believing his professors came to terms with him being right and them being wrong – though the reality of it was they just didn’t want to deal with him anymore and concluded it best to make him someone else’s problem.

If there was anything, Caelwyn truly inherited from his father, it was his wanderlust, and he’s since traveled the world always searching for the next great find.  He’s published works on his research into the ancient world and magical history from the tribes of Adela to theories on Fell.  Most of them, although well written, are on benign topics and perceived to be dull by the wider academic community.

But he’s paid little heed to them.  All that matters to him is the pursuit of his knowledge, and nothing can stand in the way of that.
