Lorin craned his neck to look over the crowd of gathered guests, but did not see Rhonwen anywhere.  Not that he knew exactly who he was looking for, only that she had red hair.  Their parents had been in talks of an arrangement for nigh a month now, but this was their first time meeting each other.

Nothing had been decided yet, nor would it be until they had met and courted for a time.  Even if an agreement were to be reached soon, they would not wed for a year or two.

He was here alone, at this party held in Arca's own palace, while his parents had had to stay behind in Ravensway.  It was unnerving, being the one and only representation of his province here.

And still no Rhonwen!  He ventured out onto the balconies and looked down into the gardens below for her.

"Tarlaka!"

Akkiel knocked on her door, but entered right away.  They'd stopped any attempt at being formal with each other ever since returning to Adela.  Ever since the journey back when things had been said that tore down the walls of formality between them for good and all.  He came and went from her rooms freely now, and she from his.  They let the rumors—not rumors anymore but fact—run where they willed and paid them little mind.

"Tarlaka—"  He hadn't expected her back in uniform and armor.  He hadn't seen her in it for so long.  A grin broke out on his face.  He always loved how she looked in Adela's colors, armor-clad and fierce.

He got so caught up in just looking at her he nearly forgot why he'd come.

"Oh!  The eggs!  The eggs are hatching!"

For about a week, maybe a bit longer. Will still try to post if I can.

Unwise though it was, Hashasa ventured from the outpost alone, picking her way down a trail that was nearly nonexistent until she reached a hilltop.  There she could stand beneath the young maple and look back and see the entirety of her outpost, two small buildings and a cluster of tents.  Beyond, the sea crashed upon low cliffs.

Her warriors fretted overmuch for her.  True, she alone could open the gate, and if she were careless and got herself killed or worse then they would be stranded and no more mages could be sent back to the city. She understood, yet she was not defenseless and they were safe enough out here.

From her vantage she could not see the distant road, but travelers would kick up a dust cloud to herald their approach.  Further east lay La'marri.

How many have we taken from that place?  She had warned her...hunters to avoid taking mages from the village.  It was too close and the community there too solid.  It would go badly for them if La'marri turned its eye upon their little hold.

Though they had met with great success and sent many mages to the city thus far, a sense of foreboding nonetheless gripped her as she stood, clutching her cloak about her shoulders, looking out upon a land that would kill her should she venture too far into it.

Oh noes! Someone's been going around kidnapping mages!  O:  And this here is our plotting thread for it!  With info on what's going down and where.  Here's the deets:

• The mage hunters can be anyone, from anywhere.
• They are being paid to do this.
• Their employer is a woman named HashasaMenRah. She has not revealed her origin or motives to anyone yet.
• No one knows what happens to the mages or why they are being collected, but someone is sure to find out!
• Hashasa maintains a small, guarded outpost on the Tuor coast, almost directly west of La'marri. The mages are brought to this location by the mage hunters.  They are paid per mage they deliver.

Technically a lord in Serendipity, but difficulties have him needing to travel and leave home.

Word may have preceded Angelo to the village up ahead, though he dearly hoped that was not the case.  He was getting entirely too well known in this part of Connlaoth, which was partly why he'd taken the road south, into regions he'd never had occasion to visit.  One had to avoid attracting too much attention, lest one draw the mordecai in to investigate certain claims of divinity.

His appearance and name had grown some rumor around it, rumor he was hoping to avoid as he rode into the village upon his chestnut mare.  He traveled light—a religious devotee must maintain a certain level of humility to maintain credence. The peasantry might still believe he was a messenger of the god if he rolled down the street at the head of a parade, but people saw excess and became naturally covetous. Above all else he required their trust and their good will.

He was rather tall for a Connlaothan, and his hair was dark, falling down just past his shoulders, but he received only a few curious glances as he passed the first few houses.  That was good.  He couldn't abide the desperate crowds mobbing him for healing.  If fortune was with him, no one in this village would recognize him from the stories.

SETSURRI
A wandering elven warrior!  Setsurri is serious and calm, and holds himself to a strict, if sometimes unfathomable code of honor.  He wields a poisoned glaive in combat, and would definitely interfere if he saw someone in need or saw someone trying to hurt another.

NELL
Nell is a young librarian in Serendipity.  He's sheltered and naive, and often isn't even wise enough to know when he's in danger.  Oblivious and absorbed in his books, he also has several ancient and dangerous enchantments dwelling in his mind, just waiting to be triggered.  They latched onto him from the old, arcane tomes he is often studying, and he doesn't even know they're there.  Needs to have his world shaken up!

A bandit leader currently harassing southern and western Serendipity.  He could lead raids on villages, caravans, and travelers or have it out with some other bandit over land.  He also demands tolls of travelers trying to use the southwestern mountain roads between Serendipity and Adela.  If not doing his bandit thing, somebody could always stumble upon his camp or he could find himself involved in an adventure that starts in Serendipity. ^.^

ZEPHANIAH BLESSING
Zephan is a Serenian male, age 21. :3 He's a traveling mage so he can pretty much be any place.  He goes all over.  He's a compulsive liar, and likes to make up extravagant stories about himself and his exploits.  He's flippant and doesn't take anything seriously, even when he should.  Believes he can talk himself or magic himself out of anything.  He's up for absolutely anything, good or bad. Could easily cause trouble for someone with his magic or his lies, or get into trouble himself because of them.

CROW
A holy warrior who, yes, protects people and is serious about it, but is also kind of a jerk and more than a little cruel to the creatures he hunts—these being things like vampire and demons, basically anything that preys on mortals.  He's based in Serendipity but travels widely!

The doors opened for him, pulled apart by a servant on either side, and Crow stepped from sunlight to the dim interior of the manor.  A herald announced him, not by his true name, which he would always hold as Crow, but as his given name, Lian Keist.  Sir Lian Keist, which he didn't care for either, but he was a knight—in title least ways—and when in the manor of one's lord, certain protocols must be observed.  For harmony's sake.

His already thin dedication to decorum would only stretch so far though.  He ignored everyone else in the entrance hall, servant and nobility alike, brushing through them without making eye contact.  He was here for Lucian only, and would be gone again the moment their business was done.

He was travel worn.  Dust from the roads clung to his hair, usually a pristine white bled of any color.  The same dust coated his boots.  He would avail himself of some inn's services after this.  After he managed to track down his lord, wherever he was.  Not here in the entrance hall apparently.  Crow started up the stairs.  No doubt the Lord of Moonspear already knew he was here.  The man didn't miss much.

History:
Hashasa is a well-respected priestess.  She has not spoken of her origin to anyone.  She has been charged with the collection and delivery of mages to her home city, but maintains secrecy as to the reason for this.

Abilities:
As a priestess, her power derives directly from her city's patron diety, an ancient demigod that sleeps half-buried in the ocean floor.  Among other things, this gives her access to and from her city by way of teleportation circles.

She's the girl from the banner. :3

The chill air awoke Nell at last, and he opened his eyes to darkness, the lamp having burned through its dregs of oil, the window open and a sharp winter wind billowing the curtains in.

He raised his head off the desk and a piece of paper came with it, stuck to his cheek.  Probably ruined the ink, he thought, plucking the page from his face and blinking at it in the dim light of the moon, but with no lamp he couldn't make out the words nor tell if they had smudged.

He rubbed his cheek and sat huddled at the desk for a bleary moment before rising to shut the window.  What a place for the latch to fail.  These old tomes couldn't take bitter, cold air eating away at them.  Most of them were near to disintegrating as it was.  This particular room of the library was his favorite, holding more shelves of ancient texts than he could decipher in a lifetime, a fact both exhilarating and sorrowful.  Most of the books were of a purely historical significance but some few guarded arcane spells and yet others were dangerous even to touch.  They were all incalculably valuable, worth sums of gold he could scarcely guess at.  That was part of his job here, night after night, to find those books too perilous or too precious to remain here in the library proper, those that needed a more secure resting place.

Nell pushed his glasses up on his nose and spared a glance out the open window at Arca below.  The lights of the city glowed lovely at night. As he closed the window, he caught his dim reflection in the tinted glass—he looked fire-touched, hair a bright crimson and eyes glinting gold back at him—but it was a shadow of movement behind him, seemingly at the other side of the room, that caught his attention.

A trick of my eyes.  Sleep yet weighed them and fogged his head, though the cold air was spurring him to full alertness quickly enough.

After checking the latch and pushing the curtains back to provide a bit more moonlight, he hugged his arms about himself and sighed at the desk with its stacks of books and half-finished translation.  Hunt down more lamp oil and continue working, or find a bed and catch the rest of his sleep?  He hadn't the slightest idea what time it was.

"Well, I'm awake," he said aloud.  "Might as well stay that way."  So he started down the dark, tight spaces between the shelves, making his way by memory toward the door.

Appearance:
Nell has an attractive, smooth face hidden by spectacles and untrimmed red hair.  His eyes are gold.

Personality:
His lack of a variety of social interactions for the whole of his life has left him oblivious and naïve.  He has a sweet disposition, is accommodating and kind, but often doesn't have the sense to be fearful or hesitant, even when he should be.  Having never experienced real danger, there's a certain recklessness to him.   

History:
Nell has spent much of his life as a scribe and historian, shut up in libraries from a young age as he trained as an apprentice with the royal scholars in Arca's palace.  He has never left the city. Currently at work deciphering the oldest hide scraps and stone tablets within the royal libraries.

Strengths:
He can read, write, and speak many languages, including several ancient and long-dead ones.  The magic in his Serenian blood manifests itself through his writing and speaking.  Words he writes or says can often channel magic through their meaning.  This has rarely activated, for he has rarely had a need beyond the occasional intellectual curiosity.

Weaknesses:
Unbeknownst to him, a certain collection of old books written in a language predating Old Serenian have burned arcane enchantments into his mind, some of them benign, some of them wildly dangerous, and some of which ambitious individuals might covet for their own use.
