Saber-Five

A merchant vessel bearing the colors of Adela found itself boarded on of its sides by two pirate ships. The Adelan crew had been fighting the sea brigands for half an hour, giving fierce resistance expected of their countrymen. Even so the pirates used their numbers to overwhelm the Adelans. Rubin Morrell, one of the few Adelans still alive and fighting. They formed into a circle in the center of the ruined ship surrounded by pirates. Both sides were battered after having fought for an hour, the attackers lost over half of their hundred membered group while the Adelans were down to a dozen men and women.

With sword and shield in hand Rubin stood at the ready. His armor was blooded and his body ache with constant pain still he refused to collapse.

To think this is my first trip at sea. Sir Morrell thought to himself. The irony was enough to make him grin despite the grim situation. The pirate captain, a baldish man in tattered clothes looked up at the knight with a frustrated gaze, he and his gang never expected to suffer such losses in taking this ship as the great multiplie of bodies and pools of blood all over the deck.

Frankly the pirates hoped that the loot here was worth all the trouble they endured today. "Lay down your arms and I promise that your lives will be spared." The sea dog declared, to the Adelans.

"We're pass that point scum and beside we rather take our chances with death than to be in your hands."

Rubin answered with a defiant gaze and then spit in front of the enemy. The Adelan crew laugh in amusement, knowing this could be their last moments.

Little did both sides realize however that another combatant from beneath the waters was about to enter the fray.

Rising up out of the sea-green waters of the Hivan Ocean, came a total of fifty or so warriors, some with green skin, others with blue. Some even had white stripes on their bodies to complement the green or blue tinge to their skin. They were sea elves of the Shark Clan. They quickly boarded the ship and swarmed the place taking down the attackers with ease and focused power, leaving none alive.

One such sea elf warrior armed with a black trident as many of her kindred did, others who wielded spears, made her way on board the ship with a huge leap and in one swift circular movement, disarmed the pirate captain while another ran him through with his spear. Lorelei then turned to block an incoming strike with Ocean's Fury, and then when seeing an opening, she lunged forward and punctured her weapon into the abdomen of one of the pirate scum. As a result, not only did he start to bleed profusely, her weapon had the power to fill his lungs up with water, drowning him from the inside out. He lay there sputtering and coughing, meanwhile Lorelei had moved on to another pirate opponent who had decided to take a swing at her, Lorelei finishing him off as well.

Both pirates and the Adelans were taken completely off-guard by sudden appearance and attack by the strange people from the waters. Of course the raiders seem to recognize them and were horrified. For a second, the Rubin and the rest in the Adelan circle stood and watch in shock and awe at these sea themed warriors. The woman with the trident especially caught Rubin's eye with the way she slew the enemy captain and dishing out her wrath any other pirate nearby. It was obvious to the knight that these newcomers had no love for the brigands but did they mean to do same to him and his countrymen.

Could the sea people tell the difference between them and the pirates? Would they even care and just turn on them next?

As quickly those thoughts came, Rubin shrug them off and looked to the collection of sailors and soldiers beside him.

"Do not engage these other warriors unless they attack you first. Go after the brigands only." He commanded and the Adelans nodded in acknowledgment.

Once that was clear, Rubin and his few remaining comrades broke formation and joined the melee. As ordered they went after the pirates and avoided fighting the sea people. Rubin spotted a female raider wielding a mace coming up behind the trident warrior and about smash her weapon for the back of the head. Acting fast he rush forward and thrust his sword into the lady pirate's stomach, who scream out in pain and fell backward a moment later, dead.

Seeing this, Lorelei turned her head quickly to the Adelan knight captain and nodded briefly at him before she was forced to turn back to the melee at hand. Parrying a downwards strike towards her legs, Lorelei then slashed her trident upwards while kicking out with her foot towards the pirate man's kneecap, making him stumble and cry out in pain. Another of her clansmen pierced through his throat with their spear, making him gurgle to death on his own blood.

Yet she could not savor the victory as a sharp blade pierced the top of her thigh then, and Lorelei whirled around to lunge at the attacker, another female raider, this one a pirate rogue with dual kukris. Whirling her weapon in a dizzying motion, she dealt several large cuts and gaping wounds on the woman's abdomen and arms. Soon taking her down, the latter falling dead in a pool of her dark red blood.

Another parry from a bald scruffy pirate wielding two scimitars. Twirling them around expertly he did, but Lorelei was quicker and had far more experience under her belt. And he was down too, choking before letting out a strangled gasp as he died.

All around the sea elf, her clan were fighting the sea raiders, these people who had kidnapped some of her own kin. And they would pay for that with their lives they would. The cut on her leg dripped blood but it did not faze her much as she had had to deal with much worse in the past. So on she fought, taking more and more of the thugs down in a whir of body and trident moving as one entity.

Out of the corner of her eye, Lorelei saw the Adelans had resumed the battle, and were helping to mop up the rest of the attackers. Soon they would prove victorious. Her clan had yet to ever be bested, and these pirates would not have that win, now or ever. They would regret ever messing with her people, as one by one they all succumbed to spear and trident from those they dared to harass. Just one more mark on the victory post it was.

Rubin chopped off the head of another foe when he noticed the fighting was stopping. He watched the remaining pirates try to beg for their lives or jump into the sea to take their chances. Both course of action were futile as they were slaughtered on deck or pursed in the water by some Sea elves and finished off. When it was finally over Rubin dropped to his knees in sheer exhaustion while holding onto his sword. He looked around and saw the crew suffered no further deaths and smiled. Still over half of the Adelan survivors including himself were injured.

Turning his gaze over to the Trident warrior and her followers, awaiting his crew's fate.

(OOC: Sorry it took so long Ethereal-Star but I finally repiled.")

Pretty soon within the span of ten minutes or less, the battle was done and over with. With the rest of the pirates dead, now Lorelei's people could free their clan folk who had been taken prisoner on one of their ships, one of whom was a close friend of Lorelei's. As half of the sea elves went off to go do just that, Lorelei stayed behind along with several others of her clan including the Clan Leader, Nerone.

The latter went over to Rubin then, and said in a voice that commanded respect and sheer dominance, "Now that that is over with, I must take my leave now. It was an honor to fight by your side, but now I must join the others to rescue my people that were captured."

Without waiting for a response, he jumped off the ship, back into the blue waters again along with the rest of the sea elves, making their way to the pirate ships where their kin were being held against their will. All except one. Lorelei stayed behind, looking at the Adelan knight with his bloodied tabard over thick chain mail armor holding a sword and shield. He looked weary and battered, and so Lorelei went over to him then, nodding and extended a hand in greeting.

"A victory for both of us, don't you agree?" Looking around at all the dead bodies of his crewmen, she added. "A shame about your people, but that is the way of battle after all." The female sea elf stood there looking ever fierce with her trident, her weapon of choice she has trained with for many, many years.

It was finally over, Rubin thanked whatever spirits that were watching over them. When the sea elf came over to him and extended her hand, Rubin sheathed his blade and then grasped the offered hand firmly.

"For whatever reason you came your people have earned our gratitude."

Rubin repiled with glee in spite of his wounds. He added further comment.

"I am Sir Rubin Morrell of Adela. May I have the honor of knowing your name warrior?"

Shaking his hand with a strength that seemed to oppose the lean build of the female sea elf, the ocean warrior then withdrew her hand, letting it fall back to her side once more, her other hand still firmly gripping her trident. "Your gratitude is duly noted. My fellow clan as already mentioned, came to liberate some of our people from the vile clutches of these seedy pirates. Many of my kin had been taken hostage, and I too must go to see to their freedom. Any other pirates on board the other ship must be eradicated, none will be left alive. None." she repeated, a certain fire dancing in her dark green eyes, letting the Adelan man know she was not bluffing and meant every word.

Looking the knight up and down, Lorelei noted his black hair and dark skin, clearly marking him as one of the Adelan people her kind sometimes came across. His red and black armor was bloodied with the life blood of both his own people and those of the pirates they had just defeated. "I would be glad to come back here after the rest has all been taken care of, Sir Ruben Morrell of Adela. Perhaps we can share a drink at a nearby tavern. Work off the edge that has no doubt built up."

Before she left, the warrior said one last thing to him. "The name is Lorelei, of the Shark Clan sea elves." And with that, she leapt gracefully over the edge, and back down into the deep blue-green waters of the ocean. The sea elf swam quickly over to the pirate ship to help aid her people, a line of ripples moving outward towards the other vessel, yet the sea warrior herself could no longer be seen.

Normally, Rubin would object to killing any suriving foes who want to surrender but considering everything he and his comrades been through he didn't mind at the moment. Beside even if he object it wouldn't stop the Sea Elves who outnumbered him and were in better shape than his fellow Abelan

He quickly noted the way that the elven woman was examining him. Attempting to conceal his pleasant surprise, Rubin smaintain his knight's discipline as best as he can mange while to new ally's friendly suggestion.

"Of course, it would be an honor."

He watched her leave with admiration both as a warrior and a woman. He shook head, trying to stop that last thought from going any further. Sure Rubin was attracted to beautiful woman, but he wasn't foolish to assume Lorelei would be interested, considering they just only met. Perhaps because it's she only wants to interact with a fellow warrior and that fine with him if that be the case. Beside he rather curious about these Sea Elves.

Afterward, Rubin and his group tend to their wounds then spent half an hour, throwing the pirate corpses overboard. Once that was done, they proceeded to clean the decks while preparing their honored dead with a proper mass burial at sea. Rubin by this point, wore a dirty torn pants and boots was naked to the waist up, with bandages wrapped around his chest and left shoulder. Despite being a knight and temporaryily ship captain, he help cleaned alongside the men.

Where else many knights around the world even some in Adela would take their responsibilities for granted and abuse others, Rubin was raised not to follow such a disgraceful path. With that mind he scrubbed and washed the decks until they were done minutes later. Then as they were about to begin the funeral service, Lorelei had returned.

Sweeping her trident down towards the pirate, Lorelei ended his life quickly and efficiently. As promised, they left none of the scum that were left alive. Resuming her full height, Lorelei only spared a brief glance down at the sea raider she had just killed. He was rather young for a human, perhaps in his early twenties and wasn't much of a fighter anyway. Still her people could not take the chance of leaving him or any of the others alive. They would turn out exactly the same as those they fought previously. And Lorelei's clan always sought to set an example to both friend and foe alike. Rubin and his crew would also no longer need to worry about these pirates. Even the pirate cook had been killed, his throat pierced viciously at the jugular, his life blood intermixing with all the rest of his people. It was good riddance as far as Lorelei was concerned. She did not see her actions, or those of her people as evil, it was something that simply needed to be done. It was their way of things after all.

Nerone, the sea elf Shark Clan leader, walked into the small cabin room then, other sea elves trailing along behind him as well as there being other sea elves in the room already and looked around in satisfaction. "I believe that was the last of them, sir." Lorelei indicated with her trident at the poor sap she had just offed.

Nerone nodded his head grimly. "Good. Let this be an example to other pirates that we are not a people to be messed with under any circumstance." He paused, before continuing. "Our people have been rescued from captivity, there is no need to linger here any longer." All the sea elves nodded in assent, and one by one they all left the ransacked ship, bloodied bodies strewn all around.

The female sea elf headed back to the Adelan ship as promised, and swiftly jumped over the edge of the railing, landing smoothly on her feet. Noticing this was a private time for Rubin's men and women as they disposed of their dead properly, she only nodded at him and stood back, watching as they carried out all the funeral arrangements, not getting involved. The wind coming off the ocean blew through her choppy black hair, but other than that slight movement, Lorelei was as still as a statue as she waited for them to finish.

Rubin nodded back to Lorelei, then back to the service. All of the Adelan dead were wrapped in blankets and were rowed in a line. His fellow crew members looked to him, being the last senior in rank among them it was his duty to say a few words for the fallen. Sighing in sadden resignation at this bitter burden, he cleared his throat.

"Today we few who remain bear witness the passing of our countrymen who gave their all in defense against those who threaten us. Our captain, Gewan Saeler and the others who lay here, fought like dragons to the end, buying time for unexpected help to arrive, saving us all in the process."

Rubin Morrell, paused, in sorrowful silence, as he struggle with the words to say next.

"None can ask for more from such valient souls, who fought for their comrades and their loved ones back in our homeland. It is for us, the living to honor their memory, not only remember how they died but also how they lived as proud Adelans should."

With tears streaming down an otherwise stoic face Rubin finished, looking at the covered bodies.

"To you the victorious dead, we commend your souls to rest. Farewell my brothers and sisters in arms...till we meet again."

With the speech finished, one by one, all of the wrapped corpses were gently thrown overboard to the sea's embrace.

Ethereal-Star

Such was the nature of battle and bloodshed, the sea elf thought to herself. While her clan had their own rituals for the deceased, theirs tended to be quick and with less ceremony to it. In most cases only a few words were ever spoken, or just simple acknowledgement as to their passing. The whole philosophy of the animal in which they revered wasn't known to be sentimental about death and warfare, it was always about the strong versus the weak. Those who perished either proved to be the latter or ceased to be the former. Of course, this outlook really only applied to the warriors of their clan and not the commoners and servants as naturally the fighters were the best the Shark clan had to offer. Still, Lorelei's people were often seen as cold-hearted, but they could care less about how others perceived them, whether they be other sea elves or not.

After the bodies were all thrown overboard, Lorelei took that moment to walk up to the Adelan officer, looking him straight in the eyes. "Come, let us go celebrate our victory at one of the local drinking houses on land. Just you and I, warrior to warrior." she said, before looking out at the horizon. The shore was not too far from here, about two and a half miles away. "I'll meet up with you again on land." But she did not take her leave just yet, awaiting Rubin's reply first.
