Stepping out of the temple, Chandra walked down the steps, her weapon positioned on her back. Her goal that day was to practice her fighting in an outdoor environment for two reasons. One, there was simply more room to maneuver. And two, she needed to practice her tumbling where there were obstacles about, obstacles such as trees and rocks. That way, she would be better prepared for anything. Some shurikens were also attached to her hip, magical ones at that that would ignite upon contact with the enemy after being thrown. Aptly named 'Flaming Stars', Chandra felt she would have need of them today.
Soon, she reached a small clearing and began her drills, flipping and twisting over rocks and other such barriers, landing smoothly on her feet as she did. Reaching for her staff, she began twirling it expertly around in a dizzying fashion, as though to strike at an invisible enemy, moving it this way and that, forwards, backwards and to the sides too. After a short while of doing that, she stilled and placed her palms together to center her energy again, closing her eyes as she focused on the chi around her. Then lashed out abruptly to the left, gathering the chi in her arm, palm open as though to deliver a slash at some enemy using a technique that was strong enough to break a thin piece of wood. It wasn't one of the more powerful attacks she knew, but she would get to that soon enough.
As the monk warrior practiced in the field, she heard the sounds of a commotion from somewhere down the street. Whatever it was drew nearer, and so she stopped in her training to see what was going on. However, she couldn't get a clear enough view so cautiously she moved closer, while making sure she had all her weapons with her.
The coppery scent of blood soon reached her nose and Chandra hurried that much quicker. If people were in danger she had to help! Rounding a corner, she noticed the lack of citizens around here as most were running away back into their homes, banging shut their doors and latching them securely. Stopping short, as she came upon the dead body of a fellow warrior. A soldier of lower rank to be more exact. His chest had been brutally sliced open, blood spilling out heavily, his dead eyes open in horror. Chandra took a moment to kneel down by his lifeless form and say a quick prayer to Inima for a life lost. Getting up, she walked on still searching for the source of this disturbance, finding more and more dead bodies lying around, some of them had even been citizens. What had caused this? she wondered with growing trepidation.
Another soldier, stomach slashed open to reveal guts spilling out in a gruesome display of death and bloody gore lay on his side, mouth open wide in a never ending silent scream of agony. Chandra had no more time to ponder this or do anything else for that matter, as the source of all this bloodshed soon came into sight. Her mouth went dry as she realized this was the foe she had seen in her dream. The one she would fall to. No! she corrected herself. No, I shall not.
Putting on a brave face and gathering her courage, she stood straight and tall in the face of this great evil and looked at him right in the eyes. Those eyes of malice and unholy intent to wreak utter destruction. For what purpose, she knew not. But she would find out.
"What is the meaning of all this?!" she demanded, trying to keep her voice strong and steady.
