ooc: My first thread/post for my character Ari. She has the ability to communicate with and understand butterflies.

In a secluded wooded part of the village, sitting amongst the tall grasses and flowers, was the young girl Ari. As usual, she was seen talking quietly with her winged companions, laughing softly here and there. Anyone passing by might find this sight strange but Ari rarely pays anyone else much attention. She has been viewed to be quite the odd ball.

Ari was currently in the midst of a conversation with one butterfly, a really pretty iridescent blue and silver one that the creature told her its name to be Sparkle. Sparkle was currently telling her about a practical joke she and her sister Violet had played on their cousin named Mist, a transparent green butterfly.

"And so the coward flew off in such a fright!" Sparkle exclaimed. "The sight of the little kitten scared him so! It was rather funny, actually. The kitten couldn't hurt even a pesky fly!"

Ari laughed at that. "That is silly. Most of the other butterflies around here aren't so afraid!" She pondered a bit. "I like talking with all of you. I mostly feel misunderstood a lot and that no one will talk to me much. So I don't bother talking to them."

"Well, how do you expect people to get to know you if you don't try to talk to them first?" Sparkle told her.

"I-" Ari stuttered. "I don't know. I just feel more comfortable talking to you guys."

The butterfly laughed, a quiet tinkling sound like bells emanated from her. "Well, Ari I cannot give you much advice except this. You need to spend more time around your own kind otherwise you'll be too alienated from everyone else. It's not healthy for anyone, especially someone of your age."

Ari pouted and crossed her arms childishly. "But I don't want to!" she exclaimed. The butterfly slowed down its fluttering of wings and gave her a look that might be deemed comical. "Ari, dear, in time you'll see what I mean. I cannot force you to do something you don't want."

"Hmph." was all Ari said in reply. Sparkle rolled her elongated eyes. "Well, it's been nice chattin' with you dearie, but I must fly home now to my children and and see what mischief they are up to. Heavens knows that they are up to no good....again!" Ari giggled at that. "Ta ta now!" And off Sparkle flew. Ari sat and gazed at all the butterflies around her, feeling very much at home. She knew she was considered strange, but she didn't care. "I'll do what I want." she thought. Another butterfly perched on her nose.

"Heya there! Whatcha' doin'?" this one asked, a shimmery grey butterfly with white specks asked Ari. Ari stared cross-eyed at the butterfly on her nose. "Oh sorry," the butterfly replied, "this probably isn't the most suitable spot to talk." Ari shook her head no.

"Well, alright then." said butterfly fluttered its wings, took off and landed on the grass next to her. "What's up?" it looked at her pointedly, its eyes looking at her with wide curiosity. Ari thought this was so cute and laughed. "What's your name?" she asked it.

"Oh, right my name. That would be nice." The butterfly straightened up and stated proudly, "Me name be Butterjacks!"

"That's a weird name, but I like it." Ari told Butterjacks.

The butterfly motioned with its wings toward a grove of trees. "Come, I wish to show you something." it said.

"What is it?" the girl asked curiously.

"I'm not telling you, it's a surprise, silly!"

"Well...okay then. Show me what it is." Ari stood up and straightened out her sun dress.

"This way!" the butterfly chortled and took off quickly. Ari ran after the fleeing butterfly to see where it would lead her.

ooc: And sorry if this was long. I hope I did the scene justice, it was a tad bit challenging to write. Anyone wanna join in? Ideas are welcome here, as long as the butterfly does not lead her into danger intentionally.

Cuckoo Pepperwizard, the dream fairy, saw a girl running. He chose to be seen on this particular day. This girl was a friend of his friends, the flutterbys. He appeared, with a smile on his face, a hint of mischief sparkling in his deep blue eyes.

(OOC - Now add my name after the title as so - "Amongst the Butterflies [SanguineBlade]"

Ari was running after the butterfly when she noticed a small creature nearby. She stopped, and eyed the creature curiously. He had brown butterfly wings, was very short and wore an outfit of green that seemed to evoke the essence of nature itself. While Ari had seen various peoples amid the village of La'marri, some non-human, she had no idea what this creature was though.

Curious, she went right up to him and said in a friendly voice, "Hi. I'm Ari. Who are you? What are you?" As she expectantly awaited a response, Butterjacks came fluttering over to her, wondering why she had stopped following him. "Aren't you comi- Oh, hi Cuckoo! Long time no see! I was just about to show Ari something, but it's all very hush hush, oh yes, it's a surprise it is yes!!"

A dragonfly, or, in this forest, a flagondry, buzzed up to Cuckoo. His name was Jolts.
"Cuckoo Pepperwizard, Dream Fairy extraordinairre," The flagondry explained, as if the fairy was a king. "He cannot speak in the mortal world. He needs to ommunicate using his mind to the fairy spawn, the flagondrys, flutterbys and hassgroppers." Maybe... you have spent enough time with us, your mind could attune to his."

Hello there girl, what is your name? Cuckoo frowned. It didn't work.
Jolts. Tell her she needs to attune her mind.
"Sorry, but you need to believe he can communicate. Let's try again."
Hello there. What is your name?

(OOC - I think it'd be cool if they were flagondrys and flutterbys and hassgroppers - fairy spawn hahaha)

Ari pursed her lips in confusion when the fairy creature didn't say anything and looked to Butterjacks for help.

Butterjacks, being somewhat air-headed, had temporarily forgotten that Cuckoo only mind-spoke in the mortal realm. "This here is Cuckoo Pepperwizard, Dream Fairy Extraordinaire!" he explained to Ari. Then silently in the butterfly's mind, Butterjacks continued. He is only able to communicate mentally, so ya need to attune your mind to his and talk to him that way. As my fellow flagondry friend here also says. Go on, try it! Butterjacks urged her.

Ari thought on this for a second and nodded. In her mind silently as well, she thought Well I can try, but I have only talked to butterflies. Looking at the dream fairy, Ari furrowed her brows trying to establish a link similar to that of her butterfly friends. After all, this wasn't that different than communicating with her flutterby pals.

Hello, Cuckoo! My name is Ari. It's nice to meet you. Why are you here then? The girl paused, and expectantly awaited an answer.

Codestar7

Cuckoo smiled gaily. This is the forest in which I descended when I first discovered this world. I reside here when I am not twisting fate in people's dreams. I see you have attuned properly. That is because you have been with my children for so long. Nice to meet you, Ari.

Ethereal-Star

Ari was temporarily confused by the mention of twisting people's fates in their dreams. What do you mean by that? she asked, sending another telepathic message to the small winged creature. The girl wondered where the dream fairy lived then. A lot of fairy beings tended to live in the Niahi Woods near her home of La'marri, but that didn't mean that all of them did. So she asked him that too. Where do you live, then? Ari was very curious to know.

Codestar7

Oh, I don't live anywhere. I drift in and out of reality depending on my mood - Usually I am in someone's dream, changing what they do in waking hours by manipulating their sleeping thoughts. I have saved lives, lost them, even drove people mad. I can change a dream whenver and however I like - I am a dream fairy!

Ethereal-Star

Really? That's interesting. But a little scary too. Ari admitted. Thinking a moment, she asked the fairy, Is that why you are named Cuckoo?

She glanced at Butterjacks fluttering in the air besides her, before turning her attention back to the dream fairy, awaiting his response.

Codestar7

The flutterbys who were in hearing distance went blank. The pattercillars stopped coccooning. The flagondrys and hassgroppers all stopped, mouth open.
"Nobody calls Cuckoo scary! And nobody asks him why his name is so.
Cuckoo did not respond, and flew deeper into the forest.
Silly girl. Too many questions. She must not know my evil intent. BE IT THAT WAY. His own voive boomed in his head, ecoing through his mind.

Ethereal-Star

To say Ari was confused was an understatement. She was both confused and hurt when the dream fairy angrily fled into the nearby woods, without another word to her. So she looked at Butterjacks for help and to clarify. Did I do something wrong? the girl asked hesitantly.

Butterjacks looked at her sadly, and told her, Do not worry about it. Cuckoo doesn't like being asked those kinds of questions.

Ari frowned. "I didn't mean to upset him." she said aloud but in a quiet tone of voice. Looking around she did not see Cuckoo anywhere and glanced down at her feet.

Come this way, I still want to show you something. the butterfly flew over a little ways and looked back at her to see if she were following. In the meantime, other butterflies were also following the two of them, wanting to cheer up Ari as they sensed she was sad and bewildered and they wanted to comfort her as best they could.

Codestar7

Cuckoo flew in a ring of leaves in the ground. He landed on the ground, and closed his eyes. He had visions of the woman Ari, and showed that she might help him in his quest. She would provide a vessel for his goals.
Even in this reverie, he could sense the butterflies approaching, with a girl named Ari following them. He could sense her astonishment as colorful and vibrant lights swirled magically into the surrounding forest. He could tell this was unlike anything any mortal would ever witness. Thousands of tiny tiny butterflies mingles with the magical light, creating a vortex of twisting color. Cuckoo started flying upwards, the cavalcade of color following him. With a sudden shatter, it ended.
Cuckoo turned to face Ari.
Are you prepared to help me?

Ethereal-Star

Butterjacks had led Ari to a magical grove in the nearby woods. Granted the entire woods were enchanted, but this area in particular was especially so. Bright opalescent and pastel colors twirled about in the form of flowers, plants and various fruits on silver-barked trees, their golden-colored leaves rustling softly in the cool breeze. The scent of magic was all around.

Ari stopped in sheer awe and just looked over everything in pure bliss. She had never seen anything of this magnitude of beauty before and that was saying something. Everywhere there were butterflies, bees and birds of many colors flying and hopping throughout the area collecting honey from flowers, resting in the branches of trees or soaring through a calm blue sky just barely seen through the tops of the trees. There was a real sense of wonder and joy to be felt from all this and Ari felt like she could stay here forever, and never leave. The comforts she found here would make her happy well into old age she thought.

A myriad of tinny bell-like voices sounded in her mind then as all butterflies present greeted Ari in welcoming and the teenage girl happily greeted them all back, swaying her arms about in pure happiness as she began dancing to a silent melody, butterflies swirling about with her.

Spotting a circle of dark green leaves on the ground, she went over there and laid her head down and closed her eyes momentarily as the peaceful vibrations evident everywhere seeped into her being. Soon, the blonde-haired girl fell asleep and was dreaming. In her dream, she was one with the woods and all the creatures within it. Glancing behind her, she noticed she sported a pair of soft white wings and gasped in astonishment. Looking into a small puddle of water, she also saw she sported pointed ears as well, her features definitely more fae in appearance. She couldn't help but feel further awe and disbelief at this, wondering if this were all a dream. However as in dreams, one could only go where the dreamland took them and so it took Ari with it into an ethereal, shimmering haze of enchantment that was common to Fae and Elven creatures.

It was here in this otherworldly place of magic and color that the dream fairy Cuckoo made his presence known to her then, asking her a simple question. "Are you prepared to help me?"

Ari could only nod yes, so awestruck and joyful she felt in that moment she simply could not have said or done any different. And so the dream continued...
