__________________IN-DEPTH STUFFPhysical Description:Porcelina Juárez is an impossibly short woman with dark, ashy skin. She's rather heavyset, but she retains a noticeable hourglass figure. Her black, beady eyes are magnified by her horn-rimmed glasses. Her dark brown hair is kept in two long braids that reach all the way down to her thighs. Porcelina's dress is stained with paint- mostly watercolor. She has very large boots, and wears multiple layers of socks so they'll stay on her feet.
Porcelina's voice is high pitched and nasally, and most people find it ear-grating. She goes
*tch* a lot, especially when she's aggravated.
Personality:Pretentious and condescending, Porcelina is a top contender for the position of "least likeable person in Zantaric". No matter what people do or how they do it, she always seems to have some snide comment about how they should really try doing it
her way- she knows best, you see. Her obnoxious behavior tends to drive people away from her, which in turn has made her a bit clingy towards the few who'll actually put up with her.
Porcelina is a surprisingly moral person, and butts heads with many of her Friends because of this. She's
really not okay with things like murder and thievery, and is only part of the gang because they pay her.
Porcelina loves art, and could go on for days about it. Paintings in particular are her forte, and their isn't a day that goes by where she doesn't paint at least
something.
Relationships:Porcelina is a member of
The Friends, but she isn't particularly well liked by any of them- only Hildegarde and
Sarah seem to genuinely like her.
Porcelina is on good terms with her mother, and sends half of her salary to her at the end of each month.
Narlis Thordane is Porcelina's father. She's never spoken to him, and is unsure if he even knows that she exists.
Magic/Abilities:While Porcelina's skill as an artist is astounding, her paintings also have a very unique quality to them- a person can
jump through them to get the landscape they represent. A painting of the Grand Duke's palace, for example, will take you just outside the palace gates.
One downside to this ability is that Porcelina needs to have been to the location in order to paint a portal there- it's powered by her own memory. Another is that anybody can jump through these portals, meaning if she paints a picture of her room to get back home, somebody could easily follow her there. The biggest downside is that- for whatever reason- the paintings
need to be watercolor. Oil paintings do nothing.
Interestingly enough, a portrait of a
person will create a portal to wherever that person is. As long as she's met them and knows their name, Porcelina can basically teleport to them. She's painfully aware of how creepy this has the potential to be, and never does it without a person's explicit permission.
Porcelina doesn't know how to fight, but she
is a very sturdy person- a result of her dwarven heritage. An anvil could fall on her head and she'd probably get right back up to yell at whoever had dropped it.
History:Porcelina had to work very hard to get to where she is now.
The child of a destitute single mother, Porcelina grew up impoverished and hungry. Ms. Juárez desperately wanted her daughter to be a prodigy of some sort, and used what little money she had to send her daughter to different lessons in hopes of finding something she was good at. It was painting that the girl enjoyed the most, and soon all of the family's spare money went towards art supplies for the girl.
It took the both of them working five part-time jobs each, but the Juárez family managed to save up enough money to send Porcelina to an actual art school in Serendipity. After four years she returned home with a degree and a sense of superiority- despite the obstacles she'd faced, she had managed to accomplish her dream of becoming an artist.
Too bad there aren't many jobs available for an artist in Zantaric! She ended up meeting a girl named Sarah who introduced her to a gang leader, Hildegarde Von Musel. As Hildegarde offered free rent and a weekly salary in return for her services, Porcelina agreed to join The Friends.
Now, if they would only appreciate her paintings for their artistic value rather then for their magical properties, then
maybe she'd stop bitching them out constantly. Only time will tell if her fantasy will become a reality.
