Out in the fields of Arca amid all of the flowers and grass there emerged from the soil a fluff ball.  One fluff ball that grew from so small as to be unseen to as large as a dandelion.  It floated  up from the earth sleepily, weaving from side to side and then stopped in mid air and seemed to stretch. 

A sound like a humming bird or a fairy emerged from the fluff ball, one tiny little yawn and then a burst of giggling.  The fluff ball began to move from side to side, getting faster and faster.

"Puca slept for a looooong time" she mused to herself, "I'm so hyper now I think I'll stay awake for at least TWO millenia this time!"

Puca was a shifter spirit, having the ability to shift to the form of any animal she wishes as well as a few other magical qualities.  Over all benevolent and not very harmful, Puca was however extremely mischievous and liked to poke fun at others for her own enjoyment.  Anyone she met was her 'friend' and when she found someone she particularly liked she followed them around 'playing' with them for as long as was her fancy, which could be an entire lifetime or only five minutes, it really just depended on Puca.

The sun was out but it was a bit chilly, the wind was blowing, and Puca's odd fluff ball shape fluffed up even more. 

"Brrrr, it's cold!  I need to find some place warm" Puca mused and then began zipping around the fields, looking for somewhere warmer than a handy log.

In the night, Aki had slipped off into the village to steal some clothes, considering he lost his during his last shift. And that just wouldn't do, for it made visiting the human places quite inconvenient. With a new shirt, fresh pair of breeches, and well-made leather boots, he shifted back into human form so he could wear them back, for it was easier to carry them that way than it was trying to figure out how to best bundle everything so he could pick it all up with his mouth.

By the time he returned to the fields, it was morning, and a nice breeze stirred the grass and blew the fluffy white dandelion seeds all about. He wound up walking into a small cloud of them and sneezed, swatting at the things.

Never would he have guessed that one of those fluff balls was not dandelion down at all, but something far, far more sinister.

Puca spotted the man walking through the field she ogled him for a while and then zoomed into his clothes.  After just a few seconds she shifted from a dandelion ball into the form of a small white squirrel and began running around Aki's middle and back and then up to his neck to sniff at him gibbering the whole time.

"PRETTY! PRETTY! Pretty, pretty, pretty, and WAAARRRMMM oooooooooh Puca is going to have so much fun with this one!  I found a pretty, I found a pretty, Puca did goooood"

She scrambled up from his chest to his shoulders and pushed her little paws in his hair and began trying to burrow into it, rolling around all over him like a cat in a grove of catnip.

For the first time in Aki's life, he found himself assaulted by a squirrel.

"Wah!" he yelped, in a rather undignified manner, when something furry with tiny, pokey nails began running through his clothes and about his middle. Soon, however, that yelp turned into a snarl and he clawed at his clothes, trying to catch whatever it was--which was chattering madly and sniffing at his neck.

Argh!

With a growl, he grabbed for the creature, but then it was up in his hair--and that was when he finally caught the little rat, reaching up and grabbing it in both hands and tearing it off of him.

He stared down at the squirrel with narrowed yellow eyes, lips pulled back in a snarl that bared fangs that were far sharper and longer than a human's. "I ought to eat you, you little pest."

Puca smiled a very sweet smile and answered him very clearly in the same language.  "Eating sounds good what do you have to eat?" and then abruptly changed into a large bear rearing up into her back legs and roaring with large impressive fangs in his face.

Puca of course didnt mean it and was giggling madly in her head.  But big meanie heads shouldn't yell.  Plus this was fun!

She changed into a bird a second later and flew into his shoulder pecking at his hair.

This was one of those embarrassing, undignified moments Aki would try hard to forget later.

When the little squirrel abruptly became a roaring bear, Aki fell backwards with a snarl, heart lunging into his throat. His mind instantly leaped to fight or flight mode--and his first impulse was fight. In an instant, he was no longer a human, but a wolf, which was quite unfortunate since the problem of clothing didn't enter his adrenaline-crazed mind until it was too late.

Growling, a wolf trapped in a mess of human clothing, Aki scrambled about trying to shake the cloth off him, pawing at his face and head to try to get his head out of the shirt. But even as he struggled to free himself, the danger passed--now the bear was a bird, pecking at his fur.

He was going to kill this thing!

Whipping around, Aki snapped his jaws at the bird--and fell over when his feet tangled in the clothing.

"I am going to rip you apart and crush your bones until there is nothing left to tear, whatever the hell you are," he said, mental voice annoyed.

As soon as he freed himself, that is.

Puca flew in circles around his head, chirping and singing away, always evading his snapping jaws.  Yes, it was a beautiful day to be Puca, as it always was.  "I like you so much," she told him in her high pitched fairy sing song voice, "I'm going to stay with you forever and ever and ever."  She then burst into a fit of giggling as she transformed back into her natural state, a minuscule little dandelion seedling and settled into his fur, singing loudly about falling in love with a pretty wolf man.

"Oh, no you're not!" Aki growled and, shaking off his clothes, he lunged for her, intending to catch her right out of the air. Oh hell no, he was not dealing with this...with this whatever it was...for more than five minutes longer! Already it was driving him out of his mind, and forever? No. No, no, no.

But before he could catch the bird, it transformed into dandelion fluff again--and burrowed into his fur.

And sang of falling in love with him.

Oh. No.

With a snarl, he spun around and snapped at his fur, like he was snapping at a particularly pesky flea. "Get out! Get out, get out, get OUT!"

Puca slithered through his fur and giggled every once in a while hopping out teasingly before burrowing back in.  To her, this was a fun game, and she could  be entertained with it for hours. 

"Can't catch the Puca, can't catch the Puca!"  She sang out to him, followed by a raspberry noise and another giggle.

"GET OUT!" Aki growled, thoroughly, 100% done with this little beast! Coming to a stop, as he'd had no success reaching the fluff ball with his teeth, he flopped over onto his side and began to roll around in the grass.

"You had better pray I don't get my jaws on you."

Bored of this game Puca crawled onto his belly and transformed into a female wolf, pure white with icy blue eyes...and sprawled across Aki like a Puca wolfy blanket. 

"Catch me if you can!  Maybe if you catch me, Puca will leave you alone?"  She taunted with a giggle and then, stepped indelicately on his abdomen she shot forward and began racing through the grassland yipping and howling with excitement.

Aki's lips pulled back, baring all his sharp teeth. Pretty female or not, he knew what that thing was!

And those were stakes he was willing to play for. Already he had had more than enough--oof!

Aki let out a wheezing grunt, like the sound of air escaping, when she stepped on his belly and raced off through the grass. With a growl, he rolled to his feet, shook the grass from his coat, and bolted off after her. His long legs ate up ground quickly, and it wasn't long before he was gaining on her.

"Only maybe?"

Puca laughed delightedly.

"Of course!  Puca does change her mind a lot you know."

She got faster and faster with each leap.  This was her favorite thing to do.  Running was fun

She focused long enough to transport behind  Aki moving silently.

She got to his flank and nipped at his flank hard enough to hurt but not enough to injure and then flew by him like the wind, pure joy rippling through her making her coat glow with a white light.

Aki let out an audible groan.

"No maybes," he said, and poured on an extra burst of speed. He was gaining on her fast, just within nipping distance, but as he stretched his neck forward and opened his mouth--

"Ah!" Aki let out a surprised yelp when just like that, she was gone, and then there was a sharp pain at his flank. He whirled around just in time to see Puca barrel past, and with a snarl he lunged, aiming to tackle her.

Puca turned when he lunged, meeting his lunge with her own.  As they fell to the ground she transformed into a humanoid form, her wolf tail and ears still in tact, and her body quite naked.  She embraced Aki, clutching him to her as they wrestled.

"I like you pretty thing, very very pretty.  Do you like me?" she asked lips close to his ear, the smirk quite clear in her voice.

Aki reeled back and struggled to wrench free. "Let go!" he snarled, though the human in him definitely appreciated the sight of her and made no secret about looking her over. Even though he knew it was a trap--he just couldn't figure out what kind of trap or why. Usually traps had a purpose, like to catch something to eat it, or catch someone in a criminal act.

This? He had no clue what this creature's motive was.

"You think I'm stupid enough to fall for this?"

Puca was confused, and hurt, after all they had been getting along so well!  She let him go and transported a good six feet away from him, her emotions swinging from happy, to lusty, to crushed as easily as winds blowing.  Large fat tears poured down her cheeks and her wolf ears flattened on her head, her tail tucked close to her legs as she crossed her arms across her chest and cried.

"You don't like me?"  She sobbed the question out, her lips quivering.

Aki stared in horror as she began to cry and then, with a groan, he simply flopped over onto his side.

"I find you annoying," he growled into the grass. Pretty in that form, that was true, but he had seen her other forms and didn't trust her not to turn into a bear and bite off his head, or into a flea he couldn't scratch.

Puca walked over to him and sat down next to him crying in earnest "Puca only wanted to play.  Puca likes you, a lot.  Pretty thing."  She reached out to pet him, unable to stop more big fat tears from rolling down her face.  Puca wasn't annoying, puca was beautiful and wonderful and great, and she liked this pretty thing and how could he find her annoying?  She was distraught at the thought that her pretty thing she had found didn't like her.

As she sat next to him--something Aki felt and smelled rather than saw, since his eyes were shut--he tensed as though expecting more insanity. But when she only continued to cry and pet him, he sucked in a deep breath and let it out in a heavy sigh.

"No more...going into my fur or turning into bears, then," he grumbled.
