Kyori paced the floor of her cage, tail lashing like a striking snake and claws clicking along the dirty floor. It was a busy day at market, and there were too many people crowding around her confines--but very few people bold enough to get too close. She had almost gotten her claws into one foolish human who had pressed in for a closer look, but his reflexes had been solid. Not solid enough that she hadn't taken a chunk out of his tunic; the tatters were crumpled on the floor of her cage.

Her ears rotated, listening. One of the men who had captured her was talking about her in an effort to sell her, listing off her "good" qualities. She was inhumanly strong, great for manual labor, and intelligent enough to follow directions--with the aid of whips and prods, at least. She was also an unrivaled huntress, good for using on game hunts and able to taking down animals far larger than herself. She was also an oddity for personal collections of exotic beasts, capable of turning at least a few heads with her ability to camouflage herself--though one must also take caution with that, considering she could be easy to lose. She could also be a decent guard, if kept on a leash and properly controlled and tamed so she didn't turn on her master.

Oh, and as for the muzzle. Yeah, she spits poison. Best take care with that.

Kyori rolled her eye as she listened but smirked a little, even as the muzzle chaffed. He was doing a terrible job of selling her, since those points only made her sound scary--which she was, and which made her puff with pride. One of those squishy humans would have to be insane to think they could handle her--for she would kill them the first chance she got, and she didn't need her teeth or poison or even her claws to do that.

She would kill this man, too, and his friends, for capturing her. And she would make it a slow death for boasting about it, when in reality they had caught her in a moment of weakness, half dead and nearly frozen in the snow of  her homeland.

And when she returned to her homeland, she wouldn't be there long. She would come back with her people. And they would reign hell on this damned village, if she had anything to say about it.

Which, as their leader, she did.

Another human inched in a little closer to look at her, and she hissed like the savage they thought she was and launched herself at the bars, claws lashing out, the bars trembling as she slammed against them. The human fell back on his ass with a strangled cry, and Kyori nearly doubled over with laughter at his pitiful response, so like prey.

But instead she just growled again, low and deep in her throat, to hide the laughter bubbling up.

Idiots.

It was a beautiful day outside, and Ketra's market district was bustling with activity. Hoss Goodheart wandered down the busy street, coin purse in hand. She'd just gotten payed for slaying an overly agressive ogre, and she'd decided she deserved to treat herself to something nice. "Maybe I could buy a mask!" the teenager thought excitedly. "Then I could call myself 'The Masked Mistress" and get a reputation for being a mysterious badass! That'd be cool! Or maybe I could get a-"

A panicked yelp broke Hoss out of her thoughts. Looking around quickly for the source, she saw a crowd of people had gathered around a cage holding some kind of... Person? Hoss squinted, unable to tell what exactly was on display. She moved closer, but abruptly stopped when she was maybe ten feet away. The bars of the cage were made out of iron- Hoss could tell. Being near it made the girl feel pins and needles, an unfortunate result of her curse. "God..." she muttered, eye twitching. "That thing's fucking oppressive."

Steeling herself, Hoss pushed through the crowd until she could see the captive properly. It... wasn't quite human, but that didn't really mean anything. There was malice behind the creature's eyes, but there as intelligence as well- clearly, it wasn't the savage beast it was being marketed as. The teenager wrinkled her nose. "Well that's dumb!" she thought angrily. "This is, like, false advertisement!"

Feeling annoyed- and just a little queasy from being so close the iron- Hoss approached the man who had been discussing the being's qualities. "Aye Ma'am, she'd make a fine babysitter!" he told a sharply dressed woman who'd been eying the creature intently. "You'd have to train her not to eat the young ones, but-"

"What'd she do?" Hoss interrupted loudly. "Is she evil?"

The man stared at the teenager, a single eyebrow raised. "Ah... Well, we captured her in a hunt." He grinned. "A fierce battle it was, many a man was felled before we could-"

"I don' care about that!" Hoss exclaimed, waving her arms above her head. "I wanna know if she's an evil criminal!"

The auctioneer blinked. "Um..." he began, unsure what answer was more likely to make him a sale. "...Not necessarily?"

The girl groaned- both out of exasperation and because the cage was causing her immense discomfort. "Then puttin' her in a box makes you evil, dumbass!" She shoved the man angrily, pulling a bronze battleaxe out of the tattoo on her back. "You distressed a damsel!"

"Wait! What are you doing!" the man cried out as he fell to the ground, the crowd dispersing in a panic. "Guards! Guards!"

Ignoring him, Hoss staggered towards the cage. Doing so caused her chest to seize up, but she powered through. Raising her axe dramatically, she brought the weapon down on the lock that kept the cage door shut. With a harsh *snap*, it broke in two...

Oh my. It seems I got here just in time for the rush. Inachos Madereel had been traveling for many days, finally reaching his destination of Ketra. It wasn't that he had any business in Ketra; he just wanted to see something new. Even in his long years of traveling, he had never set foot in Ketra.

Inachos looked around, his eyes glistening in the sunlight as people peddled their wares for a living. He saw numerous shops dealing with the meat of wild animals and the tools necessary to kill said wild animals. It seemed there was an odd ratio of those to other shops within the market, but it didn't bother Inachos. He knew that this was how people lived, so who was he to judge?

As he moved further into the marketplace, he saw a mass of people gathered around something. Curious, Inachos edged closer, until at last his eyes beheld the rather disturbing sight before him. It was a cage, containing something that looked sort of human, but also looked like a feral beast. Inachos wasn't sure what the name of this particular race was, but he felt a bit of disgust creep up in his throat. This wasn't due to the person inside the cage being revolting or anything. More of that Inachos didn't like the idea of slavery. It didn't sit well with him.

He knew that he couldn't judge though. Perhaps she's some kind of criminal... As if she read his mind, a well built but stunning red-headed woman approached the seller. She inquired as to the state of the prisoner, whether she was evil or not and a criminal. The seller, obviously flustered at this question, said that the person in question was not a criminal or evil.

Inachos bit his lip, his fists curled into balls. So they just took her huh? Just because they could. As he thought about this and what to do, the red head walked towards the lock and sliced it open. Inachos was stunned, but only for a moment. She's got some gall. Guess maybe I should help.

Inachos moved forward, pulling his shortsword out as he went. He quickly assessed that a number of guards had appeared due to the cry of the slaver, and were closing in on the cage. He leapt forward, the pommel of his sword coming down upon the heads of the guards that had reached the cage. They slumped down almost immediately as Inachos slid past them.

The rest of the guards fell back a little, wary of this newcomer to the fray. Inachos ignored them, his back towards the cage and his sword raised in front of him. He turned his head ever so slightly to look at the young woman and the caged person. "Figured you could use some help getting out of here." He smiled, a soft smile that came naturally to him.

Like a cat that had caught sight of a mouse, Kyori's head snapped around at the sound of a girl's voice--a girl that was arguing with the slaver. Her pupils dilated with interest, her ears rotating forward, and her tail flicked with excitement and curiosity. This was the first time she had heard one of the sheep give lip to their own, and if it worked out in her favor, all the better.

Her pacing slowed when the girl pulled out an ax from gods knew where, but it didn't matter. Kyori didn't care about the logistics. Instead she stilled, watched, and every muscle in her body went taut with anticipation when the ax raised--and fell.

Ka-chink!

The lock split, and that was the only signal Kyori needed.

With a snarl, she slammed herself against the door, bursting from the cage, and paid no attention to the foolish girl that had freed her nor the armed man now with her. She had a single goal in mind as she launched past the two and sprang onto the slaver before he had fully registered what had happened, slamming him to the ground hard enough that his head cracked against the floor. Her clawed hands kept him pinned, sinking through his clothes and deep into flesh of his shoulders.

"I made a promise to you, did I not?" she growled into the man's dazed face, teeth grit and voice mumbled; she couldn't fully open her mouth with the muzzle in place. "Thank your gods that I must be quick."

Quick, before the other humans reacted.

She raised one hand, claws shining with blood, and swiped for his throat.

Hoss had never been known for being particularly smart, or for making good decisions. "God fuckin' damnit!" she muttered under her breath as the creature sprung from its cage towards the slaver. The beast pinned the man to the ground, growling something incomprehensible.

"No! Please!" the man screamed in terror. "I-I'm just doing my job! I have kids to feed!"

"Hey! Cut it out!" Hoss yelled. Ignoring the armed newcomer for the time being, the girl pulled a rope from her arm and would attempt to to lasso the beastwoman's arm. "Revenge ain't what good guys do! Ain't you ever read "Kate Danger and the Emerald Forest"?"

Rhindeer

Something wrapped about her arm just as she brought it down to finish the man, and Kyori let out a feral hiss and whipped around. It was the girl. The girl who had freed her--and now she was using rope on her.

Her eyes narrowed. Ah. So she hadn't been freeing her after all. She intended only to capture her for herself.

A fresh wave of rage rose in her chest as she grabbed at the rope with her other hand and yanked, hard, to either tug it free or pull the girl closer. Fine. She could deal with the whimpering male behind her later--the coward would be easy to track--but this girl...this girl seemed intent on being a nuisance.

Success! The rope wrapped around the woman's arm, preventing her from dealing the man a killing blow. "Ha!" Hoss laughed triumphantly. "Let that serve as a- yikes!"

The beastwoman had yanked on the rope, causing the teenage adventurer to stumble forward. The slaver had managed to squirm out of her grasp as she did this, and was now limping away as quickly as he could. "Great." Hoss thought. "Now the bad guy is getting away!"

"Dumbass! I'm trying to help you!" Quickly jamming her axe back inside her back, Hoss would attempt to use the momentum from being pulled to tackle the woman to the ground...

Inachos had been watching the scene, almost dumbfounded. He watched as the now freed "slave" went straight for her captor's throat. It had been almost in the blink of an eye that a rope had been whipped around the arm of the former captive.

What in the hell is happening? His confusion was immediately snapped in half as he heard that the slaver was getting away. He looked at the girl and the beastwoman, afraid of what would happen but understanding that letting this villain get away would be uncalled for.

"Don't worry! I have him!" Inachos turned to the limping man, his body sideways as he breathed in and out. "Come forth! Brilliant Bow!" Almost instantaneously, a bright light appeared in Inachos' hand in the shape of a bow. He pulled back the string, an arrow of light appearing notched on the bow. He let loose, the arrow flying straight and true to the limping man's bum leg.

Inachos knew that his bow wasn't really meant for dealing that much damage to humans, but he figured it would be enough to surprise the man. Sure enough, as the arrow hit its mark, the man yelped and fell down, his voice now moaning. That didn't even do that much damage... What a wuss.
