Rubin Morrell thrusted his blade through a fur coated raider's chest. The opposing fighter, gasped in sharp pain and collapsed once the sword came out. Rubin then dodged a mace attack from another raider, an elven woman and swiftly cut off her hand and then the head went next. The knight, much of his armor was covered in blood stared out into the chaos all around him within a battered village. The village of Gara that sat at the border between Adela and Serendipity had came under attack.
For two weeks, raider bands had been terrorizing settlements of both nations. Rubin had been tasked with a party of twenty knights assisted by local militia and set up an ambush in Gara. Thankfully the citizens who couldn't fight were hiding in a nearby cave, so there was no danger of them being harmed. The brigands had been successfully lured into the trap, but now it was fight for survival for both sides in the village square.
It had been going on for thirty minutes Dozens of men and women with weapons been locked in savage combat, neither side giving quarter or asking for it. Yet the Adelan garrison were actually only stalling for time until their reinforcements arrived and cut off the raiders' chance for escape. Ruben heard a roar up in the sky and looked in its direction and smiled.
The dragon riders had come!
