Jozal sat on the dusty ground, taking out a crumpled up paper from his front pocket. The paper read that a group called the "Sunchasers" were looking for members. This alone placed a very bad feeling in Jozal's chest. Although he was very trusting, he was able to sense a cult from far away. He felt his blood start to boil and his black wings twitched. Jozal took a deep breath and put the paper back into his pocket. He wanted to find these suckers and take them out. He knew that they were somewhere around the area, as the paper very clearly stated they were located near Zantaric. Despite knowing the dangers of Zantaric, he was willing to take the risk and talk to the locals to see what information he could gather and to see if anything similar had happened here in the past.

The Character

Some choking, and a snap...
The golden-scaled hybrid released his grip on the throat of the corpse in his right hand. It slid lifeless down the brickwork of the alleyway wall on which it was propped up. The hybrid only huffed as the young boy lay there, feeling no remorse. In his mind, it had been a stupid decision for them to spring around a corner and pull a knife to mug the first person that was there. Now they had paid for that stupidity with their life. The golden scaled man exited the alley, leaving the boy's body to sit the way it was.

He made his way down the streets of Zantaric, silver spear tapping on the stones like a walking staff. The half-dragon came here only rarely, when he needed something the mountains could not offer him. It was not a nice place, but it was the only civilization he knew other than Adela. The hybrid was wanted there, and his bright golden scales were not easy to conceal. As strong as he was, the constant conflict would either wear him down to defeat, or at the least hinder him from buying necessary supplies.

The gold-scaled hybrid made his way with a brisk, efficient pace. Ke kept his guard up, looking or listening for any problems his scales would attract. Adela was not present here, but mercenaries and bounty hunters working for them could be. There were also those stupid enough to pick a fight anyway, foolishly mistaking his natural armor for real gold. He continued on, making his way to the marketplace.

Jozal took a deep breath in and made his way into the marketplace of Zantaric. He kept one hand wrapped around the hilt of the sword which was at his side. 'Hopefully I'll find some leads soon, or maybe somebody looking to hire a mercenary,' he thought to himself. After about fifteen minutes of traversing the marketplace, he decided to leave. However, he did notice a person with golden scales out of the corner of his eyes. Jozal shrugged this off and continued his way through the town when he stumbled over something.

"What the-" Jozal said, looking to see what had caught him off guard. To his horror, he discovered that he had tripped over the corpse of a young boy. The winged man carefully checked the body to see what could have possibly caused the death. On the neck of the corpse, there were bruises. "Asphyxiation? Maybe a broken neck," he mumbled to himself. Jozal's mind immediately suspected that it was one of the cultist's responsible. Feeling his blood start to boil, Jozal took a deep breath. He carefully picked up the boy's body and laid it somewhere out of sight. He then did what he could to pay his respects to the life that he believed was taken away too soon.

Jozal walked back into the marketplace, this time he was intent on finding the man with the golden scales.

"You must be kidding! That's triple what they were worth last time!"

The golden scaled hybrid was causing a scene, arguing with the woman behind the market stall. It was clear that his mood had grown much worse than when he arrived. He did not even care about the attention that he was drawing to himself.

The half-dragon had very little. His only money was that taken from random thugs and soldiers who tracked him in the wilds. Now, he was convinced the stall owner was trying to take it all from him. Despite his boisterous protests, the woman stood firm. This was not the first time she had been in such a situation. She held her own, defending her product and demanding full payment.

The hybrid slammed his clawed hands on the wooden edge of the stall. This triggered a brief moment of frightened shock in the woman's eyes, before continuing her stoic facade. He was losing his temper, and she was coming closer to relenting.

A loud commotion caught the winged boy's attention. He looked around and there he saw the golden-scaled man arguing with a lady working the stall. He listened in and then proceeded to walk over to the stall. Jozal pulled a bit of money out of his pocket and slid it to the woman, turning to the gold-scaled man and saying "Let me pay for that".

'Hopefully this will gain his trust, and then I can get some information, besides, if he's not a cultist, I could have a potential ally,' Jozal thought to himself. He himself didn't have much cash other than what he made on missions, but he did what he could to get as much info as possible.

The half-dragon snapped his head to look at the boy. However, there was no gratitude in his eyes. They only showed anger, as if insult had been offered instead of kindness. His heavy golden hand fell on the coins to intercept them. Golden eyes glared at the winged boy. Slitted pupils narrowed with intensity.

"What... is this...?" he growled menacingly.

The occasional flash of static electricity flickered through the strands of the hybrid's hair. This did not appear intentional, but rather a side effect of the rage that was noticeably building within him. Claws scraped ruts in the wooden stall around the imprisoned bits of metal.

"Do I look like a charity to you?!"

Jozal drew back in shock, but spoke in a stern and somewhat-annoyed tone, "Jeez, I'm just trying to help you out, accept it."

The hostility of the half-dragon caught him off guard, causing the feathers on his wings to puff up, but most people around these parts were hostile, so he scolded himself in his head for being surprised. He was still set on his goal, however, and didn't plan to let this hostility deter him. He needed to get leads from anybody he could interact with.

An audible growl escaped from the back of the hybrid's throat. His sharp teeth were clenched in a scowl, as his piercing eyes remained fixed on the boy. The marketplace was eerily quiet as all attention was focused on these two now. Not a soul spoke, fearing that the slightest sound would break the building tension. Eventually, it was the scaled man who broke this silence.

"Bullshit..."

His surroundings did not matter. Right now, there was only one in his sights. His rage ceased to build, but neither did it wane.

"You want something..."

Jozal leaned back in shock. He pondered how the guy could have been onto him this soon. The tan-skinned man took in a deep breath.

"Yeah, as a matter of fact, I do want something," Jozal's temper took him over "I want you to tell me if you're one of those "Sunchaser" cultists or not!"

Jozal's wings twitched and his eyes widened as he realized what he had just done. He had the sinking feeling that this was not going to end well.

The dragon man, who seemed to have a retort for everything thus far, fell silent upon the exclamation. He was genuinely taken aback, something that did not happen often. His hand slid away from the coins absentmindedly. The woman seized the opportunity to swiftly accept the payment and replace its presence with a small cloth sack. The hybrid did not care, or even really notice. Eyes that once held insult and rage now reflected confusion and bewilderment.

"Who?" he asked, breaking awkward silence.
