Following the river, Esderand made his way back to the place where he had seen the towering obelisk a few weeks prior. He had been wandering, when he stumbled upon the great marble slab jutting up from the ground, unreadable characters gracing it's towering figure. After returning to the Tower, he had asked around, trying to figure out what language had been written there, but to no avail, as the script was a mystery to all the Scholars he asked.
Until he had stumbled upon a book in the library. Chronicled inside was the notes of one of the Tower's Scholars, who had been researching the dragons of ancient history. Within the book was a section describing the characters of Ancient Draconic, A language of the old Dragons, that died out centuries ago. He had spent the past few weeks studying the language, with nary a wink of sleep, until he could at least understand the words.
And now he had returned to solve the mystery he had left behind. He would translate that obelisk, and add it to the great library, hopefully learning something new in the process. Or so he had planned, but when he finally came into view of the obelisk, a large lizard-like creature stood before it, speaking in a language he had never heard before.
