The forest was alive with the sounds of birds chirping, bugs buzzing, and various other animals going about their day. The sound of water tumbling endlessly over rocks and sand also managed to fill the quiet air. However, the sound of crackling electricity and the smell of burning wood was something that probably wasn't too familiar in the forest. A small grouping of trees had an unfamiliar glow to it, dark lavender light emanating from strange symbols burned into the trunks of the trees.
Arcing from each symbol was a strange purple electricity, that crackled and zapped as it connected with a significant other rune. Soon fifteen different arcs of electricity connected to each of the runes and symbols, the unmistakable sounds hissed through the air. A swirling portal of crimson red and darkened lavender began to form in the middle, until something exited through the portal. Landing with a roll, the figure was soon on its feet, glowing white eyes warily looking around at its surroundings.
The portal gave a hiss and a shudder before closing, the electricity dissipated quickly while the symbols and runes turned black and stopped their burning, leaving only to smolder and smoke.
The figure was garbed strangely, in a sea of coarse black material. It was wool of some sort, durable and flexible oddly enough. A pair of thick leggings tucked themselves neatly into his thin leather boots. At least the boots weren't fur lined, he'd die of heatstroke no doubt. A simple long sleeved shirt adorned his upper torso, the material clung to him perfectly, allowing movement to be unrestricted. The sleeves met an untimely end, being tucked underneath a simple pair of very thin leather gloves. The gloves were meant mostly for show, allowing him to still have full use of his hands without being restricted by them. Around his elegant shoulders was a strange cloak of some sort. The fabric was black on the outside, made of the rough wool, but a crimson red silk on the inside.
Topping it all off was a large ornate fedora with the brim pulled down over the eyes. One could barely see the odd translucent skin of the man, which seemed to have sparkling dots underneath the surface. They seemed to twinkle and glow almost like stars, an odd enough sight if anything.
At the figure's side was a rapier, a long bladed weapon with an elegant cupping over the hilt that would remind one of tree roots, ever twisting amongst themselves. He grabbed the hilt, his hand covered by the strange cupping.
This wasn't where he was supposed to be.
A sneer formed on his thin lips as he looked around at his surroundings. The first thing he noticed was the small river, which caused him to move away from. Water. He hated water. The blasted thing didn't exist in the Abyss, and he'd only seen it a few times. Vile element. One gloved hand came up to his fedora to push the brim up so he could see better. He had a gaunt appearance to him, high cheek bones made his cheeks seem shallow, sunken eye sockets made him seem as if he skipped one too many meals.
The eyes were the strangest, as they resembled reptiles. Slits for pupils amongst white corneas. He kept his sneer on as he deemed the world safe for now. No one was about as far as he could tell. Now the trouble was to find out where he had gone. Reaching around his back to a small satchel, he opened it up and reached in. He pulled from it somehow a rather large ominous looking tome. The face of the book was black and charred, bumpy like burned skin. Crimson red letters, the same letters that adorned the trees were printed on it.
Kneeling down he opened the book and flipped through it for a moment. This wasn't his book. He had been tricked! Out of anger he let out a harsh sounding word, his fist striking the book which burst into a brilliant green flame. He let it burn until nothing was left, simply staring at the pile of ash. He had been betrayed. Just as he had betrayed his own people.
He now walked the traitor's path.
