It had been rough, especially when Evangeline had found out she was pregnant. The more she began to show, the harder is was for her to survive in the capital, or anywhere near it. It had also made it impossible for much progress to be made in rescuing the remainder of her family. She was by no means helpless, but she had more than just herself to think about and protect.
She knew who the father was, the only man she had slept with. When the child was born though, it was undeniable. Born with a head full of dark red hair, only a couple shades lighter than Dekka's own hair. The child also had one green eye that was the exact shade of Dekka's the other the same shade except for a hint of yellow around the pupil, making it match Evangeline's own green eye. She could see Dekka in her son beyond that, even some of the expressions he made.
Evangeline wouldn't tell her son, who she named Wesley, about Dekka though. Dekka wasn't ready to be a father and wasn't exactly the type of man she would want to raise her son. It was hard though, she had no idea what she was going to tell her family when she returned with a bastard son but without the rest of her family. It all weighted heavily on her.
She carried her son in fabric sling tied around her body that held Wesley securely against her chest. She had on a heavy cloak that was a muted grey, using it to help protect herself and Welsey from the harsh elements of a Connoath winter.
She rushed down a street, the hood of her cloak pulled up. Wesley was silent, comfortable against his mothers chest. Evangeline had to go to the market, she might be able to do without many things, but she now had a child to look after.
