Physical Description
Ilia is a slight woman, with a round face that makes her appear perpetually younger than she is. Her hair is a deep, chocolatey brown, and never quite as well kept as a proper lady's should be. Her eyes are somewhere between emerald and leafy green, and always with a tiny spark behind them that gives her features a rather mischievous cast.

Personality
Ilia is a naturally playful young woman who has spent years honing her ability to appropriately adapt to just about any situation. She has a sharp wit and a sharper tongue, but her jabs are easily smoothed with a smile and a well-delivered compliment.

When left to herself, Ilia will always find a way to entertain herself, be it with a good book or an elaborate prank.

Magic/Abilities
Though she has no apparent inherent magical skill to speak of, Ilia is a surprisingly adept practitioner of blood magic. Typically she only uses spells for warding and protection, or occasionally to supplement her natural strength and agility.

Well trained in the "feminine arts"--music, dancing, poetry, etc.--she is also an accomplished fencer and a formidable opponent in hand-to-hand combat, thanks to her father's training.

Relationships
Varyyn Amaranth, her adoptive father.

Twyla, a small cat companion who never seems to grow any older. In her true form, Twyla is a flaming hellcat

History
Ilia was born with a target on her back. Not for slaughter, no, but for a fate many would consider worse. Her parents, a minor Connlaothian merchant and an Adelan socialite, had no idea what the union of their bloodline would create; but really how could they, when the legends about such a child existed almost exclusively in the demon community?

Through coincidence or fate, the marriage of Astor Cartwell and Charlotte Stone brought into contact two entirely unbroken bloodlines from two very distinct demons who were, according to legend, the most powerful rulers of their species. Of course, these god-like creatures passed into history, and then myth, thousands of years before Ilia's parents ever met...but the belief in their bloodlines still held strong in pockets of demonic communities.

A prophecy almost as old as the story of the great demon lords themselves claimed that the result of a union of their bloodlines would "create the next great Demon Liege". Naturally, this made an infant Ilia a prime target for all sorts of unsavory characters.

Ignorant of their child's supposed destiny and unprepared to defend themselves, Astor and Leana were slaughtered within days of the girl's birth. Demons from seven different sects, each serving one master or another, had come to claim the child, and they fell to squabbling over her.

In the confusion, one demon managed to sneak away with the baby: a demon prince of moderate power who served his much stronger brother. Varyyn's King had commanded him to take the child and bring her to the demon realm, where she would be raised as his brother's ward. What Varyyn was not told, but learned from context of the other demon's argument over the child, was that eventually she would be expected to mother this great Demon Liege everyone was so excited about.

But Varyyn never much liked his brother. So when he arrived at the scene of slaughter and found a perfectly normal human baby sobbing in her crib with the bodies of her parents in the next room, some half-dozen demons snapping at each other like rabid dogs...he just couldn't do it.

He told himself it was to spite his brother, but honestly the baby was just too innocent. He couldn't leave her to her fate. He would never leave any creature to such a fate.

So he took Ilia, purchased a big house in Uthlyn, and set them up as long-lost aristocracy, a minor lord and his baby daughter whose mother had unfortunately died in childbirth. It took the best of his arts to keep them hidden from prying eyes--but luckily a mordecai's influence has little effect on demonic power.

So he became Varryn Amaranth. When Ilia was deemed "old enough" (about nine), he told her the truth of her origin and the reason he must train her to defend herself. Regardless of if the two of them believe the prophecy about her, many others did, and Ilia was raised with the knowledge that they would one day come for her.

However, aside from her rather unorthodox training, Ilia has lived much the same life as many other Connlaothian noble girls.
