[MOVED THREAD! Author: YBNRML778 as Alba]

Alba walked into Connlaoth, heart pounding. She was covered by a cloak that hid everything but the bottom of her face, but she still didn't feel safe. Not for the first time, she cursed her need to explore.

She'd heard stories about what the people of Connlaoth did to mages. And her being a fire elemental...

Shaking her head to rid herself of such thoughts, Alba continued on into the village. She brushed her hair out of her face and sighed. "I can't turn back." She whispered to herself. "I want to see... What it's like here..."

She continued on into the village of no magic, wondering what was to befall her.

After enough travel through the village of Connlaoth, three individuals slowly approach the palace gates. Two Mordecai, supporting one guard. The ninjesque Mordecai, Kuro, signals the guards at the gate with the bloodied arm he used to not be able to move. Peculiar.
"This one needs medical attention as soon as possible." He notes, gesturing towards Rizzen. Hopefully, their pace was fast enough to get him to the palace on time to save his life.

Whew...finally, finally, they'd made it. And what a familiar situation this was. Yep...seemed she was always dragging someone to the infermary, which was, in itself, pretty sad.

At least this time that someone was fairly conscious.

...or so, she thought.

"Hey, you're still there, right?" she asked, shifting the guard a bit roughly in order to shake or jolt him. "You better be. Remember what I said about kicking?" Her tone was nonchalant, as usual, but in truth she was concerned. Nonchalant and uncaring was simply the image she liked to project and, in times of crisis, it really came in handy. Panicking did no good for anyone; stay calm, keep a clear head, and you could tackle any issue. Even if she didn't really feel so calm, if she at least pretended to, it could sometimes lead to manifesting the real emotion...or, at least, a cheap copy of it, which was sometimes all that was needed.

She could see a group of people rushing in their direction, carrying a stretcher between them. Good. The guard Kuro had flagged had been fast...

When the group got to the palace Rizzen was starting to wonder why everything around him was starting to look like a bad watercolor painting. Everything was so damn blurry, and how come he seemed to be moving without much effort. For some reason he thought that some girl with oddly colored eyes shot him. Odd.

From the outside, Rizzen's eyes were open, quite glazed over, but still open. He was still half walking, a few drops of blood leaking from the coat-bandage every other step. His breathing was also erratic, he'd be barely breathing for a few moments and suddenly suck in several loud panting breathes.

When he was shaken he glanced over at one shaking him. A blob of skin and hair color, the hair color was a bit long, a woman. Yeah, it was a woman. She was saying something confusing though, something about him staying here and that he knew something she said about kicking.

"Where else would I go?" he asked softly, watching the colors from the sky and some new color start bleeding into her coloring.

After Kuro signalled to one of the guards the others hopped to opening the gates so the medics could get out and the Mordecai could assist the guard inside.

The guards were akwardly fast right now. Kuro stood his ground to support Rizzen until the guards with the stretcher reached them. Kuro released the wounded guard when the medics got ahold of him and laid him down on the stretcher. Kuro still stood his ground as Rizzen was hauled off to be taken care of. He glances at his blood soaked arm, wondering how well it's healing.

   Heh.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Who knows?" she replied to Rizzen, shifting him over to the medics so they could load him onto the stretcher. The sooner he was on it, the sooner he could get the help he so badly needed. That wound never had stopped bleeding, from the looks of it. Crap. "Just hang in there, or else. You'll be fine."

Glancing over at Kuro as the medics went off on their way, her gaze hardened a little, becoming more stern. She didn't know Kuro well, but she knew him well enough to know he was foolishly stubborn, and therefore thought she could make a prediction as to what he was about to doâ€"act macho, like he wasn't in pain, and tend to his wounds himself. "You too. Go with them, Kuro. You need to get taken care of, too, y'know."

She perked an eyebrow, looking him over. Yeah...what an understatement. He was shot up in more places than Rizzenâ€"though, luckily, no vital areas, unlike the unfortunate guardâ€"but was standing his ground like it was nothing. Beatrid frowned slightly. He was a good actor, but nothing he said would make her believe that those wounds didn't hurt.

"Go on. Those could get infected. You'll need to get the...ah...bullets out of them, too." She winced slightly.

Rizzen was glad to be put into the stretcher and carried away. Not having to walk on his hurt leg was a relief, and the sky wasn't half as distracting as the view he had while standing. The blue-grey sky and white/grey clouds smeared together rather nicely...

At least until a green smear capped with a long smudge of dark chesnut appeared in it. He had a feeling it would be quite angry from the way it seemed to move a bit before stopping suddenly and then moving along with the stretcher.

It didn't say anything, at least Rizzen didn't think he heard anything. He wasn't deaf, he could hear the shuffle of footsteps and other little minor palace noises. If this one decided to say something he definitely would have heard it.

Then, as sudden as it appeared the it was gone. Though, it seemed to stomp off in quite the huff. Rizzen could only hope that his good luck would extend to the healing of his leg...

To those seeing with eyes that weren't fogged over with anemic dizziness Rizzen's green smear topped with a chesnut smudge was a woman. She wasn't noticeably tall or short, was wearing a green and brass military uniform similiar to Rizzen's, and was scowling, muttering to herself and stalking towards the Mordecai with her arms crossed and feet stamping angrily against the ground. This was Sergeant Fahmida, a woman most Connlaothian soldiers pointed out as an example to their children when they were explaining how appearances could be deceiving.

"You two! Mordecai," she ordered once she was within five feet of them, stopping and uncrossing her arms to plant a hand on her hip. "The brass needs all those available to report to the village ASAP, you'll be accompanying me."

Kuro's gaze soon turned to Beatrid when she began to speak. He places his right hand on the area where his side wound should be.
"I'm fine, Beatrid. The bullets passed on through. Nothing to worry about." Kuro explains in a slightly emotionless tone. That's about the time the Sergeant approached. Kuro glanced in her direction and felt a bit disgusted. He didn't like Fahmida much.
"No arguements here. I'll meet you two at the village." Kuro finishes, turning about to walk in the direction of the castle gates. He didn't want to linger around Fahmida long.

Well, actually, he can  do pretty much any dirty job anyone's willing to hire him for. If the price is right, he'll do it! He loves him some money (and wimmen XD). Ahem.

It's Keina, a "professional" thief/bandit/whatever. He was hired for another job to kidnap a gal and return her to her husband, but since the player of that gal has vanished, he is once again out of work and disappointed because of it. He needs a joooob! So, if anyone wants to hire him for anything...go for it! XD He needs something to do.

And I want to get him involved in plotty goodness, darn it!

So, for that matter...if anyone has any plots they wanna throw up that he'd be welcome to...I'm listening! ^_~

"Yours is, too," Sunni told Sumarai between bites of porridge, the simple flavor pure heaven to her starved tongue. Of course, she made sure to swallow before speaking; it had been drilled into her for ages that speaking with a full mouth was rude. "And thanks!"

It wasn't her full name, though, but a shortened version of the original: Sunniya. But it was a belief among her kind that if you gave someone your name, you also gave them a piece of yourselfâ€"enough of yourself that you could be controlled, even, if the wrong person got a hold of it. For those reasons, names were highly important among her kind, and also highly secret. Not even Sunni's parents knew her full name. Naming was a complicated process: the parents would bestow their child with a name, but when the child grew old enough, the child would complete that name by finding the other piece of their name through a naming ritual, and that new name would be known only to that child, and to no one else. And only whole names could be used to gain control.

For those reasons, full names were rarely given out, and when they were, they were given out to only the closest of friends and lovers, and it was a traditional part of any marriage ceremony. But not even the Emperor knew her real name. She wasn't about to give it away so easily, even though by law she had to if it was asked of her. And the Emperor was to know the true names of all his concubines. But Sunni had given him a false name: Sunnika.

Worked well enough...how was he to tell, anyway? She wasn't married to him, anyway, and didn't love him. She didn't want to be with him in the first place!

And he hadn't loved her, either.

She gave a small shiver, but it wasn't for the cold. So much time...she'd lost so much during her time as...as...well, as a slave, basically. Three years. It wasn't as long as it could have been, but was long enough.

Finishing her porridge, hunger finally sated, she finally got a chance to take in her surroundings, and the newly revealed features of her rescuer. Sumarai was a pretty girl...she couldn't quite understand why she would want to cover so much of herself up. Well, except for that scar...but a scar wasn't a big deal. Speaking of which...that was a pretty odd and lethal place for a scar to be placed. And it was long and thick.

But, Sunni held her tongue and didn't mention it, even though she was itching with curiosity. She didn't want to be rude, and since she didn't yet know Sumarai very well, it might easily be interpreted as such. "Thank you so much for all you've done for me, Sumarai," she murmured gratefully instead.

"You, too," Sanyu answered with a smile, a great deal of his nervousness leaving at her own warm smile. Yeah...she certainly didn't seem all that bad! But he still couldn't help but feel shy. She was the first other demon aside from he and Mahath that he'd come across! Heck, not too long ago, he hadn't even known demons were real, much less that he was one!

"So, you're gonna teach me stuff? Mahath already taught me howta fly..." The question was left unspoken. Of course he was deathly curious about what she'd teach him! He was just too shy to outright ask!

"Mmm-hmmm," she enunciated. Boy, was she glad she didn't have to teach the kid how to fly, she would have just tossed him off a cliff and hope he learned on the fly, so to speak. While she was recovering in hell the half-demon took the time to ponder just what she could teach a demon kid that wasn't of her band. It surprised her, just how much she could possibly teach someone that wasn't even a eryine to begin with.

"So-o," she drawled glancing up at Mahath, "When do we begin?"

"I won't be around while you train him, though. I have other business to attend to." Mahath said, standing. "I should be back before nightfall," he added, tossing a look to Sanyu and grinning before turning and walking off. Eerie how his figure always seemed to vanish as it entered the shadows, was it not? As if he became a part of such darkness...

"Alright," Valefa punctuated her sentence with an 'ok' sign. She watched Mahath as he exited, raising an eyebrow. That was pretty cool, then again Demonlords always managed to look cool whenever they made an enterance or exit, no matter how subtle they were.

She sighed and turned back to the little demon. "Oh well, no rest for the wicked. I suppose we could start off with something easy, unless you feel like doing something more challenging."

Sanyu watched Mahath leave, until his figure was no more, and slowly let his gaze drift back over to Valefa. He shifted his leathery wings along his back as he watched her expectantly.

He had no idea what would be considered "easy" by this woman. By Mahath's standards, "easy" had been pretty darn life-threatening and downright painful! If she had the same standards as Mahath, a "challenging" exercise would kill him off!

"Um...maybe something easier?" he ventured.

Easier worked for her too, best to start at the bottom of the ladder than jump for the middle or the top.

She picked up a table knife and looked over it. Kinda dull, it might do though. Giving the smaller demon a fetching smile she fidgeted with the knife a little. "Can you regenerate kid, most demons can?"

As Valefa was speaking a black spot materialized just behind her chair, and slowly began to stretch out in steady increments.

"Regenerate?" What did she mean by that? And what was with the knife!? What was she planning to do with that? He eyed it warily as she toyed with it.

"Um...I dunno...maybe?" he answered cautiously, slowly. "...Why?"

So intent was he on keeping that knife in his sight that he didn't yet notice the growing black "spot" behind Valefa.

Hopefully it'd work this time. She kept smiling and lowered her eyes slightly. "It's terribly usefull, especially when fighting. See-"

Valefa drew the blade of the knife across the forearm opposite the one that held it, bringing a trickle of deep crimson up from the tanned skin. The wound bled a little before stopping and...didn't do much else. An eyebrow arched. She tried to remain calm, even though fury was starting to build up within her. Geez, why'd this have to be one of the times her own regeneration screwed up, she didn't need to look like some kind of crazy self mutilator in front of the kid. Maybe it was just taking a long time, it sometimes did. She lowered her eyebrow and waited.

And then, there were times that it didn't. She gritted her teeth slightly, trying to think of some way out of the mess.

The spot expanded, eventually growing large enough for a head of shining lilac hair to slip through. The hair belonged to a creature that looked like a woman with glowing alabaster skin, the long bangs hiding her eyes, curvy red lips twisted into a smirk. She wore a sleeveless silver shirt that ended just beneath her prominent breasts, a pair of thin black suspenders attached to a black miniskirt, her feet garbed in wraps of silver cloth and what looked like a long black folding fan in one hand. This woman reached a hand and cupped Valefa's chin, her smirk growing wider. Valefa's reaction was to freeze, even though she had the knife in her hand.

The other woman chortled. "No wonder your attacker got you so easily. Poor little alu, still recovering from his attentions?"

   Ummm...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With wide-eyed fascination, he watched her draw the blade across her arm, wincing as blood began to seep from the self-inflicted wound. Alright. So, then, it was supposed to automatically heal? That was...interesting. He'd never even known that was possible!

Yet, as he watched...nothing happened.

He looked up at Valefa uncertainly, and noticed that she looked pretty surprised by this, as well...aw man...she was probably crazy. Mahath left him with a crazy demoness. Oh geez...she wasn't gonna try and cut him with that knife to see if he could "regenerate", was she!?

He scooted back a little in his seat, his wings hunching around his shoulders.

And then he jumped in surprise when, out of nowhere, another lady appeared, one who cupped Valefa's chin and spoke to her. Sanyu's eyes darted to her, watching her closely. Well...apparently they knew each other...but who was she? Was this part of his training or...?

Valefa glanced at Sanyu, whose eyes were focused on the newcomer. Good...good. She readjusted the hold on her knife, flipping it so the blade was facing her and whipped her arm to the side and around the chair.

"Bitch!" the woman growled, taking a step back and almost falling, courtesy of the knife in her thigh.

Valefa turned around and smirked, raking a section of hair away from her eyes. "Oops," she said airily. "Guess that attack made me a little jumpier than usual."

The woman scoffed, pulling the knife out of her leg and throwing it into the ground. She crossed her arms and began sinking back into the earth, another black circle spreading underneath her.

Valefa raised an eyebrow and nibbled her bottom lip a moment before turning back to Sanyu. "Where were we," she mused. "Ah, regeneration. If you have it it shouldn't take long for you to heal. I'm only half demon, so it's... not quite as effective for me."

Sanyu didn't think his eyes could get any bigger.

He was wrong.

A blade was suddenly in the other woman's thigh, which was quickly wrenched free after a lovely exchange of not-so-nice language. And it was obvious how it got there.

A few moments later, and the mysterious woman had vanished from wherever it was she'd come...and Sanyu could only blink slowly, eyes impossibly wide and unblinking, his body unmoving. And Mahath...trusted this demon? And had left him alone with her?

Aw geez...

His attention whipped back to Valefa when she spoke again, and it was apparent that he was now even more attentive than he had previously been. And who could blame the kid! Valefa had just stabbed a random person without even looking!

He listened to her speak, drawing in every word studiously. He had better pay attention to her! "Um...and...uh...how do ya know if you can...self heal...?" he ventured very slowly and cautiously after she had finished.

The hell got into the kid? Valefa tilted her head to the side and perked an eyebrow.

He must be squeemish, or something. Come to think of it, he didn't look too thrilled when she cut her arm. After this lesson it might be worthwhile to desensitize Sanyu to violence. At least enough so he could fake that it didn't bother him.

"It's simple," she chimed, folding her arms on the table so the cut one was facing Sanyu. "Just make a little cut on your arm somewhere and if it starts closing up after a moment or so then you can regenerate."

As she was talking, the cut on her arm began to slowly knit itself up at the ends.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Oh...okay..." Sanyu muttered, though, this time, his eyes were filled with wonder rather than worry. Whoa...so the lady wasn't entirely crazy. Right before his eyes, her cut was starting to knit back together.

Crazy...

As for Sanyu, well, he was pretty skeptical as to whether or not he had the ability. Whenever he'd scraped his knee in a fall, it had always healed just like the other kids, scabbing up and eventually falling off. But...well...it had also been only recently that he'd gotten his wings. And the strange markings on his face. And now, even more recently, his ears had started to grow pointy! So...well, maybe he'd also be able to regenerate, too!

Worth a shot. And he didn't think the lady would let him leave if he didn't try, anyway. Best to do what she said...

Using a sharpened, almost claw-like fingernail, he made a quick little cut on his arm. The smallest possible incision he could possibly, humanly make, only just breaking the skin.

Then he watched. And waited. And waited some more...

"...Um...it's not doing anything..." he said at length. And hoped she wouldn't decide that was because the cut was too tiny!

   Hmmmm...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Valefa's eyes narrowed a little when Sanyu scratched his arm. She leaned forward to get a good look at the nick, didn't want the kid to squeak out of cutting himself.

He didn't. He held back though. Valefa had seen paper cuts worse than the scratch Sanyu put on his arm. No matter, even a little scrape would heal if he had the ability.

Which... it didn't look like he did. If he was a full blooded demon, which she was sure he was having no information to direct towards any other solutions, he would have healed that nick soon after inflicting it.

"Congrats kid, now you've got a bigger reason to avoid taking idiot risks." Valefa smirked and sat up straight.

Seeing Sanyu's worried face gave Valefa an idea for another lesson, one she assumed she would have to give him. It wasn't a useful combat ability, par se, but it was a generally useful bit of information she was certain he was never taught.

"You'll like this next lesson," she purred. "No knives involved."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sanyu frowned, staring at the little scrape, which hadn't changed a bit. He had really been hoping to have the ability...that would have been pretty cool...especially considering Valefa's comment.

Yeah...that was for sure. But he hadn't planned on taking idiot risks to begin with! He was no dummy...

Valefa spoke up again, and Sanyu tried not to eye her too warily. Something in her tone of voice worried him a little. But, then again, he'd been pretty jumpy ever since coming to this village! This was his first time among other demons. This was his first time not being around humans. For most of his life, he'd even believed he was a human! It was only recently, in the past year, that he'd realized he wasn't.

He was a demon.

Maybe he should start acting like one...

Shifting his wings behind him, he forced himself to lean forward, feigning interest and trying hard to mask nervousness. "...what is it?"

Eh. He was only partially successful. But, hey, it was a start!

   The basics
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Valefa glanced around. No one seemed to be listening in on them. Good.

She leaned forward a little and her smirked widened. "Listen close Sanyu, most demons have to find this out on their own but I'm going to tell you straight up. Demons come in all the forms and colors and temperaments that you can imagine but at heart there's only two kinds: The ones you can sort of trust, and the ones you can't.

The type you can sort of trust are the ones in the same situation you are - like me. While I'm in debt to Mahath and have to serve him you can trust me because we serve the same lord. If I were to hurt or betray you, Mahath would more than likely take me out before I realized what I got myself into.

It never hurts to be suspicious. But, you can't let anyone know that you're suspicious of them, or they'll be on their guard and start covering their tracks better if they ever decide to stick a knife in your back. That means having control of this," she reached out and tapped the end of Sanyu's nose. "It's not easy to control your expressions, but I can help you."

   Ohh!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sanyu's eyes crossed as she tapped his nose, and he blinked back over at her as everything she said sank in...

And, in light of her words, something else clicked in his mind. Demons came in two varieties, the ones you could sorta trust and the ones you couldn't. He and Valefa were the first type, though Sanyu always thought of himself as someone highly trustworthy but...well...he was a demon, not a human, so he guessed he really wasn't. Not completely. Right? His expression wilted slightly as this new information embedded itself in his mind. No demon could be trusted completely...not even himself. And the more he ran this over in his mind, the more it began to make sense. The more true it seemed.

He hadn't been completely trust-worthy. Not ever.

Especially not recently.

He'd left Vernados and Lilith. He'd betrayed their trust. Now he was here...because he didn't trust. Because he couldn't be trusted. That was why Ahlekk hated him...why Vernados at first hadn't wanted him...

He was a demon...

And it was better for him to be here...away from Lilith...otherwise...he'd just betray her more, and Ahlekk and Vernados would hate him more. And...and they'd...Mahath had said they'd...they'd kill him...

He could never go back. He could never see Lilith again.

He blinked suddenly as he felt sudden moisture gather in his eyes, and he quickly averted his eyes. Sniffing, he struggled to think about something else, and snapped his mind back to what Valefa had said, and forced himself not to think any deeper.

"Expressions...?" he asked when he finally thought he had tamed the tears that had threatened to spill, and he looked back up at her. The tears had indeed receded with some effort, but his eyes still had that glassy look to them, easily giving him away now if he hadn't been given away earlier. Oh geez, what perfect timing her lesson had, too! "How...can you...?"

And then, right then, another thought blinked into his head. "...And...what kinda demon is Mahath?"

Valefa perked an eyebrow when Sanyu turned away from the table and sank back into her chair. That was a pretty... human reaction. Maybe he was reared around humans. Valefa nodded, some things were starting to make sense.

It was a little odd though, that humans had taken in a young demon and treated it no differently than one of their own. Maybe it was because he was full bred, some humans could be generous and loving to all things. Gave everyone an individual chance and the like.

When he turned back to her she kept her face neautral, little smile, no arching eyebrows, chin propped on the backs of her hands. No need to have him feeling guilty, the point of this lesson was not letting emotions run rampant. "I'm going- "

She blinked, just now registering Sanyu's second question. A little voice just behind her ear warned that it probably wasn't a breed question either... Damn, apparently the kid took the fact that she was somewhat trustworthy to heart.

Telling him what she thought of demons that possessed any amount of power over others probably wouldn't sit well with Mahath. That kinda thing was better learned than told, mainly because telling him would probably win her a free vacation to some nice, out of the way torture chamber. The trick to answering his question would be to give him a satisfying answer without making him doubt what she'd said before...

She smiled playfully. "It should be you telling me the answer to that one. You've probably known him much longer than I have."

   Oh! Okay! ^_^

Valefa's response soothed Sanyu a little. Of course, he wasn't aware she had told him that out of self preservation, and he was too young to realize that Mahath held other beings under his thumb, weilding his power and influence over their lives. He didn't know what punishments disobedience would bring, that such could result in death or tortureâ€"sure, he knew it was bad to misbehave, and that doing so would result in a good scolding, just as any other kid knew. And he had indeed taken the fact that Valefa was trustworthy as very, very true.

His first smile in a while fell into place as he looked at Valefa, nodding, and clearly soothed by her statement. "Yeah...you're right. He's the kind you can trust. Er, sorta trust," he corrected, remembering Valefa's words. "He saved me. I lived in an orphanage, and me 'n' my friend were adopted by an angel. But..." His tone suddenly changed, turning dark and hurt. "But...but he didn't really want me...he just took me 'cause my friend wouldn't go without me...'n' Mahath told me he was gonna end up killing me..."

A shudder ran through him. To think...he'd been living with someone that wanted him dead. All that kindness...well, he'd know he wasn't wanted. He always knew that. But Vernados had been nice to him, even if he always seemed to prefer Lilith and Ahlekk. To think...it was all fake...

He was a demon. That was all that seemed to matter...only Lilith saw him for who he truly was. And Mahath. But he couldn't go back to Lilith...he really hoped she'd understand...

"But Mahath got me outta there," he continued, pushing a crumb he'd found along the tabletop absently with a finger. "I miss my friend...but...but it's better here. Mahath treats me better..." And then he brightened up a little more. "You, too." Sure, she was scary at first...but she was also really nice, now that he was beginning to get more comfortable around her.

Mahath entered the tavern quietly, going unnoticed by the others within the building. He weaved through the tables as of hovering over the floor until he reached where Valefa and Sanyu sat. He came from behind Valefa, standing just behind her.

"I hope we've learned some valuable lessons," Mahath said, glancing at Sanyu before taking a seat. He had no need to look to see if Yokanil had followed--he knew the fae had--though he assumed the fae might be confused as to whether he was supposed to be a part of the conversation or to just follow Mahath. Mahath would let him make that decision

Mahath was intrigued by Sanyu. He valued what he'd seen here, being with Mahath and Valefa, than what he'd had over in the Light Mage Village. Perhaps he'd forgotten about his leap into training--the task to make his wings stronger--or perhaps he saw the value of these tasks and understood why he was to be brought through them.

"I would hope you've at least taught the young lord how to go for the heart; how too tear the throat out and watch the beauty--or at least to wield... fire?" He asked, glancing at Valefa, but keeping his attention on Sanyu. While he spoke, a small flame began to weave through the fingers of his right hand--the one resting on the table. He did it purely out of boredom, but also as a taste of magic for Sanyu.

   This is...awkward...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Following a little ways behind Mahath, Yokanil made his way into the tavern, broken, shredded, and almost skeletal dragonfly wings folded tightly along his back, so as not to knock anything over. Actually, the wings were no longer really brokenâ€"they had healed that way, tattered and bent in places at unnatural, seemingly painful angles. But they no longer felt any of the old pains that had plagued them before they had healed. This was just as good as they were going to get, and he no longer really cared about them. They were too far gone to ever be healed, so there'd be no more flying for him, ever. But that mattered little. So long as they were still attached, his magic would also be intact; the wings were the source of a fae's magic, at least in his tribe.

Long blonde hair, usually free of any bindings save for a few random braids, was currently pulled back from his face in a single long braid, leaving only his bangs free to frame a delicate-boned and almost feminine young face with large, dark brown eyes. A face which came in handy time and time again when it came to gaining people's trust. Of course, the wings balanced that out...his wings were often the subject of wary glances. But he had also learned to use those to his advantage, concocting tales of tragedies that had never happened. At least, fictional tragedies in which he was the victim. In truth, it was his own fault his wings had been nearly lost.

Coming to stand a few feet from the table where Mahath had just seated himself, and where two other demons sat, one a young one, Yokanil shifted awkwardly. Erm...alright. Mahath had hinted at wanting him to follow, but the conversation he was engaged in sounded pretty exclusive. He had no idea what they were discussing, and, seeing as he hadn't been invited to join in, decided he wasn't meant to take part in it. Probably some demon stuff.

Annoyance flickered vaguely within him, eyebrows knitting together slightly. Did Mahath enjoy this little guessing game or something? He could have at least told him a little of what was going on or something...

Pulling out a chair at a nearby table, he sat down and leaned back in the chair, wings pressed against the backing and arms folded as annoyance faded and a look of boredom passed over his features.

Good, he bought it. Teaching the kid would be much harder if he started distrusting what she told him. Hell, most of what she had to teach him would rely on him being receptive to what she said.

She honestly listened to him talk about Mahath and then about his life before meeting the demon, nodding sagely when he got to the part about the angel wanting to kill him. Full blooded angels could never be though of as trustworthy, they only thought of ill towards demons.

Sanyu's next comment made her stomach feel light and made her want to smile. Weird... she caught herself before her face mirrored any internal shock. It... was probably because the kid trusted her so easily. Had to be, it was the novelty of the situation.

Then, she got a shivery feeling up her spine and heard a very familiar voice from behind her... Her eyes widened a bit and she clamped her jaw shut to keep from yelping in surprise. She was fine by the time he sat down, that was good, he'd seen her slip up enough when they first met.

Learned some, that about summed it up... a little. Maybe... kinda. Two could be considered some. She smiled confidently and folded both hands on the table before her.

At least until he began the checklist. Valefa kept smiling but the confidence faded a little as Mahath went on. Especially when he referred to Sanyu as 'the young lord'. She'd have to cut to that checklist... if she got a chance to.

"I've just begun teaching him the chinks in others' armor my Lord," she purred. "Though," she glanced away from him for a moment. "He wouldn't get far learning to weild fire from me. I," she grinned in a wide, defensive kind of way. "am not very talented in that aspect."

That was a delicate way of putting it...

   Say what!?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sanyu looked up in surprise as, right on cue, Mahath came onto the scene. And right after he had just finished speaking about the demon, too!

Valuable lessons? Sanyu sure thought so. He'd learned about different kinds of demons, and that was pretty good to know. It all made a lot of sense, as well...though he couldn't say he liked everything he learned about other demons. Mainly because, well, it also applied to himself. And, in a way, it hurt...yet in another way, it simply reinforced all the doubts he had held about himself since learning of his heritage, though now those doubts were warped, changed into a sort of new understanding, realization, and acceptance of what he was. All demons fell into the categories Valefa had described. He was no different.

That was comforting in a way. Nobody but himself might realize it, but that simple lesson had done a world of wonder for Sanyu, lessening his anxieties considerably.

But...it seemed Mahath had had other lessons in mind...

Lessons which Sanyu was definitely not prepared for.

Blanching slightly in a mixture of both surprise and fear at Mahath's words, Sanyu's eyes darted over to the demon, and so surprised was he that he didn't even notice the fire Mahath was casually running between his fingers. "Tear...the throat out...?" he repeated, blinking large eyes slowly. Was Mahath saying that he was gonna...kill...people? Or was he saying something else? Because if he was saying that he was gonna be trained to kill people, that he couldn't do! He could never do something like that!

Demons...but didn't demons hurt people? And kill people? He'd already hurt someone...but kill?

Yeah, he was a demon, but that didn't matter! He could never...he couldn't even think of...

From the table nearby, Yokanil shifted slightly, watching the group with half interest. Mahath seemed really interested in the kid from what he could see...but he couldn't really begin to wonder why.

Mahath glanced at Sanyu and, for Sanyu's sake, his face expressed the deepest expression of seriousness. As if killing was no laughing matter.

"Yes, Sanyu. Tear the throat out." He said slowly, to let the words sink in. "If you came face to face with someone who wanted you dead--Why? Perhaps simply for the fact that you are a demon--what would you do? If there was no way to escape this hunter; if there was absolutely no other way but to face your killer and to confront him... What would you do?"

Mahath let the scenerio sink into Sanyu's head. He'd let Sanyu draw his own conclusions as to who might hate demons, or even become defencive over his demonic heritage and thus hopefully feel a need to protect himself in such a scenerio.

"If I was in that situation, I'd kill my attacker before he killed me. No questions asked." He said, looking right into Sanyu's eyes. "Sanyu, you were born into a horrible world. I assure you you will come into that scenerio and I can even imagine you being ganged up on by many others who detest us simply for our demonic heritage. And when you come into that situation you have two options: kill or be killed.

"Do you want to die Sanyu? However will your friend feel if you left her and never returned, not even to say goodbye?"

He'd let his words sink into Sanyu. He wanted Sanyu to see that the art of combat and the ability to take one's life before your's is taken is very valuable and that he needed to accept that.

   Don't mind me...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Valefa sat quietly, watching Sanyu's reaction to the checklist and then listening to Mahath assure the kid that sometimes, it was necessary to kill.

Listening, because she decided to glance around at the other patrons of the tavern. If Mahath needed to tell or something, or wanted her input he'd demand it. Cutting off a demon of higher rank could be considered an insult, Mahath was definitely higher than she and since Sanyu was a 'young lord' then he was as well. Hells, in some ways he was her better because he was a pureblood...

Valefa watched a serving girl for a little while and let her eyes linger on the patrons at the tables she stopped at. Then her attention was arrested to a delicate, bony something at the corner of her eye. A something that was pretty close to their table matter of fact. She turned towards it slightly and found the creature it was attached to as interesting as his wing (she assumed it was a wing of some sort). And he was looking towards the table, how nice.

She smiled a little and tilted her head so it was partially facing him.

(Argh! Ahaha...I just looked at my ancient stat page for Sanyu. Duuude...I forgot I had aged Sanyu to age 14. *twitchy* I thought he was younger...and I've been making him act younger... *slumps* Oh well...erm...from now on, he shall act more his age. O_o)

Biting his lip, Sanyu looked down at the table. Yeah...that was right. He'd forgotten that there'd be people that would want to kill him, even though he'd just gotten done explaining about Vernados to Valefa. Still, it was somewhat unreal. Prior to this whole ordeal, when he had still been living at the orphanage, his life had never once been in any sort of danger. He hadn't liked the orphanage, he'd always wanted a family, but now that he thought of it, things were so much less complicated back then. And safer. Even when he'd suddenly and painfully grown his wings, he'd still been accepted, because there were other kids there that weren't human, either. And at the time, he hadn't ever thought he was a demon...

But he would have had to confront all these issues eventually. Just never in his life had he thought he'd be put into a situation remotely similar to this...

"Yeah...I know..." Sanyu muttered. Mahath had told him all that before, but still...he wasn't so sure if he liked it. Mahath had a point; if it came down to it, if that was the only way, he'd have no choice. Kill or be killed...and...he'd kill. He'd have to kill. And...it'd be justified.

"Only if I had no other choice..."

Lilith...if he died...she'd be crushed. Wouldn't she? Unless she...unless she believed in whatever that angel must be telling her about him...

Yokanil started as the female demon smiled and turned her head partially toward him, eyes refocusing. He had lapsed into a daydream out of sheer boredom, but the realization that someone was staring back at him whisked him back to reality. Wait, had he missed something? Had someone addressed him, and that was the reason she was looking at him?

A quick glance at Mahath and the young one proved they were deep in their own conversation, one that apparently didn't involve anyone else, so that option was ruled out. Hm. Seemed that female demon was as bored as he was, perhaps. Or perhaps not. Yokanil tended to have a short attention span when a long one wasn't necessary, and here in the tavern he couldn't even entertain himself with his pipe flutes.

Still resting back in his seat, a small smile curved his lips. Demons didn't really unnerve him a bitâ€"unless they were Mahath, and any demons Mahath considered high ranking over Yokanil. But this demon didn't seem to be such; she seemed to be on the same level as he was, except for the obvious fact that she was a demon and he was a fae, of course.

Mahath nodded. He'd let Sanyu accept things at his own pace--he'd just be sure to give him a little push in the right direction every now and then. Mahath let the fire in his fingers slowly disappear until nothing was there, and he finally set his hand down on the table.

"Right, well I've been thinking about a few things," Mahath said, now not only addressing Sanyu, but Valefa and Yokanil as well.

All of a sudden, their surroundings changed. The darkness of the tavern became more and more black until the three could see absolutely nothing infront of them. The darkness was so pronounced because there was absolutely no source of light. The humidity in the air changed and it was evident that now, wherever they were, was very damp and humid. Not only that, but they would notice that there was nothing around them except the three chairs of which they sat. The floor was now stone--like a cave--and to make matters much more eerie, there was the faint sound of breathing and the slow woosh of a large, padded foot hitting the stone floor with preciseness and silence.

Mahath was no where to be found but he indeed was there. He observed the three, seeing the scene with the clarity the three below lacked.

A test, yes. It was a test for Sanyu, but Mahath also knew that Yokanil needed some.. training, as well. And Valefa? She was of no concern to Mahath, but since she was influencing Sanyu, she was best to be a part of this task.

"I need you all to be alive." Mahath's voice hissed through the cavern with a shallow volume, but one still audible. There was no escape. If Yokanil, Sanyu and Valefa all ran in opposite directions they would all find walls. They could climb, of course, but that too came to a stop. Their task was very simple--kill whatever was enclosed in the cavern with them. Working together was no criteria--but the beast within the cave was no weakling. Yokanil's flutes would not have much effect, and any one person's magic might buy them time but... Well, it would be quite the sight to see!

   Oh... crap
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Valefa's smile lengthened a little when she noticed the blonde guy's attention was on her. She laced her fingers together and stretched her arms above her head; taking a deep breath and making a soft, throaty noise when she exhaled.

Then Mahath began speaking again, and a little voice in the back of her head advised that she pay at least partial attention. He was... thinking about a few things.

What sort of things? She lowered her arms slowly and looked back at Mahath.

And that's when the lights went out. Valefa tensed a moment, until she began feeling her other senses. She felt the chair beneath her and a sudden mugginess that pricked at her skin. Whereever she was now definitely didn't smell like the tavern and when she pressed her feet into the ground it resisted more than a wood floor should have.

Then there was the breathing. Was she hyperventilating? She held her breath, and continued to hear the breathing sound and even eerier a soft padding sort of sound. A big, sort of padding sound. Valefa dug her nails into the wood of her chair and tryed to breathe as softly as she could.

Her nails dug gouges into the chair when she heard Mahath's voice. You all alive? That meant that at least Sanyu was there. If only she hadn't heard that padding noise, she would have deluded herself into thinking that it was Sanyu's breathing she heard. If he took the same trip she did, she was certain he'd be hyperventilating.

Which... considering there was something making that padding sound, one that more than likely was hostile, wasn't a good thing. Valefa sat up as straight as she could and gripped the chair even tighter, feeling the wood against the tips of her fingers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yokanil perked an eyebrow slightly at Valefa's little show, not quite sure what she was trying to do, exactly. But, fallen or not, naivete was often a vice that loved to show itself often enough in fae bloodâ€"

The lights went out.

Sanyu nearly toppled over as the table, which he had taken to leaning on, suddenly ceased to be, and if he had been able to see, he might have been able to right himself. But, now that his sense of direction was lost in the pitch black of total darkness, his attempt to right himself failed. With a thud, he landed on his side on the ground, the chair soon following and clattering to the ground noisily.

A sound which made Yokanil nearly jump a mile into the air. But, rather than do that, he gripped the only solid thing that was available to him nowâ€"the chair's seatâ€"unknowingly following Valefa's example. The hell was that!? That wasn't helping the situation any, considering he was already tense from the sudden darkness...and the addition of something that was breathing and moving around in the dark. Something big, by the soft padding sound. What just happened? He hadn't been paying attention to that conversation over at the demons' table! He knew he should have been listening! He'd probably missed something important that explained what was happening now!

Oh...okay...that crash was the kid, it seemed, since he thought he heard a quiet groan. That was a little...comforting to know.

So...was Mahath and the other demon here, too?

Mahath's hissing voice answered that question nicely. He assumed by "I need you all to be alive" that "all" meant the others were here. That was nice to know. Except for one thing...

That one keyword: alive. He wanted them alive.

In other words...that big-sounding thing...Mahath was apparently applying they were to try and survive that thing. In the pitch black. Unable to see their own hand in front of their face.

Sanyu, meanwhile, was indeed breathing heavily from where he now was on the floor, the strange sounds he was picking up, combined with the total darkness, adding to his fear of the unknown...thing...that seemed to be inhabiting this place. Shivering, he pushed the chair off him, and sat up a little. At least...he thought he was sitting up now. The darkness was messing up his senses horribly. "Va...Valefa...? Are you...are you here...?" he asked softly, a small tremor in his voice. He knew better than to ask if Mahath was here. This was a test. He could tell that. And Mahath wouldn't answer.

What...what was that thing...?

Mahath returned to the Inn around noon the next morning and entered Sanyu's room, the windows immediately opening to let in the cool breeze and all the candles int he room illuminated. He'd expected the boy to sleep late, having arrived at midnight, no less.

"Get up and wear what you wish. Today we will look about the village and give you knowledge of the past events and events sure to come." He said, turning around and before exitting the room he added. "I'll teach you to ride, but don't expect a horse. I've also arranged for another demon to train you, as well."

And with that he was gone and waited for Sanyu in the shadows of the trees. This art, too, he would have to learn. A demon had to have the ability to use the shadows as a cloak.

With a little groan, Sanyu eventually managed to, literally, roll out of bed, though he twisted in time so that he landed feet-first on the floor. Running his hands through his hair, he gathered what clothes he had in a daze, and changed into them just as automatically. Was it really morning already? This had to be a joke.

Stretching out his wings and rubbing his eyes, he clumsily made his way downstairs and outside, and by the time his soft boots touched the earth, his eyes were open enough to register their surroundings. And his brain was functioning enough to remember last night.

His body gave an involuntary jerk. What was he doing here!? Was he crazy!? This was the Dark Mage Village! Full of vampires and demons andâ€"

He stopped himself. What was he thinking? He was a demon!

He just had never thought of himself as one before...he wasn't evil, though. He was just...doing what he had to do. It was either this or die.

Sanyu made his way to the woods, and as he gazed around looking for Mahath, another thought entered his mind. Mahath had said he arranged for a another demon to teach him? He could feel his heart begin to race, with a mixture of fear and anticipation. Soon he was going to meet another demon...another one of his kin. Not a vile creature like he had once believed, but one of his own. Demons weren't vile. He didn't think he was vile, and he was a demon. So, he reminded himself to start acting like one, and accept who he is, instead of wincing every time he heard the word.

Mahath stepped out of the shadows and appeared right behind Sanyu. He looked over the boy before clearing his throat to gain Sanyu's attention.

"You had little progress with flying before," he commented. "But perhaps a change of scenery will help you," he said with a smirk.

The forest around them suddenly changed and Sanyu and mahath now stood on a cliff like structure which remained only four metres in legth but was endless miles from the ground. If Sanyu were too look down he'd find nothing but an empty blackness. Set all around them was something more of a course. The farther Sanyu was away from this center pillar of which they stood the smaller the pillars would grow in width.

"This will teach you the fight or flight situation. Each of these cliffs will only remain usable for five minuts, by which time you had best fly off of it, or plunge into darkness and what awaits you there only time will tell--but believe me you do not want to fall." Mahath instructed as his own leathery wings sprouted from his back with the greatest of ease.

"Also waiting for you on random pillars will be creatures you can fight. I want you to pick your battles very wisely. Will you fight or take flight? However I will not allow you to run from all, some you cannot fly from and a new cliff will onyl appear once your opponent has fallen."

A sword was suddenly conjured into Mahath's hand and he let it float to Sanyu. "That will be your only defense, but I hope you use your own strengths to aid you. Once you've flown to fifteen different pillars your course will end and we'll see how you've progressed."

And with that Mahath was suddenly gone and the clock began to tick away Sanyu's time on his starting pillar, six metres away other pillars, but Sanyu would have to fly to get to them.. However, on this forst cliff there was no creature for Sanyu to fight, only time.

When Mahath vanished, Sanyu's wings wilted, drooping disbelievingly at his sides. He had to be kidding! Mahath wouldn't just leave him here! He wouldn't let him fall? Would he? He couldnâ€"

Sanyu let out a yelp when the ledge he was on vanished beneath his feet, and he felt himself plummet. Quickly, he snapped open his wings and desperately struggled to the next pillar; the extra weight from the sword made this all the more difficult. Panting, he pulled himself and his sword up onto the pillar and looked around. There were no beasts on this one, either, but Sanyu's fear was no less. Especially when his eyes fell on the next pillar, the closest one to him, where some kind of giant spider-scorpion-beast prowled, fangs dripping with venom and tail lashing dangerously.

I'm gonna die...this is it... Sanyu thought miserably, trying hard to beat back the fingers of panic that were groping at his throat, making it hard to breathe. This had to be a joke! Or a bad dream. Or something other than reality!

Then the pillar he stood on vanished, and Sanyu was forced to take wing again...and land on the next pillar, directly in front of the deadly creature. Staring into the eight poisonous green eyes of the monster, Sanyu didn't really think falling for eternity would be all that bad. But that was the only thought he could get in, because then the creature's razor-tipped tail was lashing at him, and Sanyu was doing all he could to defend himself with his sword. Why couldn't Mahath have given him something better!? Like magic. Or...something!

With a loud clang, Sanyu's sword was knocked from his hands and he dove instintively for it. If he lost that...well, he couldn't lose it! He quickly snatched it up, but just as he was scrambling back to his feet, the creature's flailing tail struck him in the chest, sending him tumbling across the pillar's surface. Luckily, he hadn't been struck by the stinger, but it still knocked the wind out of him. And it made him very quickly decide that this definitely wasn't a creature he could beat.

Just as a sharp claw slashed out at him, he gripped his sword tightly and leaped off the pillar, flying as quickly as he could to the next one, which was luckily a monster free one. He landed heavily onto it and collapsed in relief. He was alive. So far. Mahath wouldn't let him die, would he? If he got into a fix...he'd stop it, right?

He hoped so. The next pillar sported a horned, wolf-like creature with knife-length claws.

And Sanyu planned on taking advantage of the five minutes he had left on the pillar by saying a long, pleading prayer to every god and goddess he knew of.

Although Mahath was absolutely no where to be seen in the wide expanse of the training field, his voice still rang loud and clear and with an uncharacteristic encouraging tone.

"Keep moving! If you calmed yourself and got your head straight you'd see the simplicity of it all! Use what you already have to your advantage!"

Mahath had hoped Sanyu would realize he held flight over all the other creatures. If he used his wings to defy them and fight instead of fleeing he'd discover it was easier and he'd be granted more time of the pillar before it crumbled to the ground. Even confusing the beasts to falling from the pillars would work. However his wings wouldn't help him at his final task, for his opponent would have wings aswell..

"What I already have?" Sanyu repeated. Well...what did he already have before the sword that could help!? Well...he did have wings. That helped in this task, certainly...kept him from falling and stuff. But...how would that help against a giant wolf-monster of death?

He leaped as the pillar below him faded, and headed regretfully toward the wolf creature.

It lunged at him before he even landed, so Sanyu instinctively stayed airborne to dodge it's long, knife-like claws, and swung his sword at it. Wait...maybe thats what Mahath was talking about. Flying instead of fighting on the ground. None of the beasts so far had wings...that was it! He just had to fly, and everything would be fine! They couldn't reach him up here!

It was using this strategy that he was able to finally defeat the creature, though it was more a fluke than him actually defeating it. Sanyu stayed near the edge through the battle, and the creature at one point lunged at him...and toppled over the edge, dying by its own mistake. And Sanyu continued on to the next pillar, feeling a bit more confident. Maybe he would come out alive...in one piece, at least!

As Sanyu began to fly, the next pillar began to move away, farther from Sanyu to enforce him to chase the pillar to rest, but at the same time wield a more powerful sense of flight and more powerful muscles for his wings. After he reached that pillar he could fly to the last one a rather far way away...

Sanyu's muscles screamed with pain from exertion as he chased after the pillar, which was moving farther and farther away from him. With a determined burst of speed, however, Sanyu soon reached it, and very nearly collapsed where he landed.

He panted heavily, wiping beads of sweat from his brow. One more pillar to go...he was gonna make it!

He took a deep breath, stretching his sore, aching wings as he prepared to make the final leap toward the last pillar, for he knew his moment of rest was almost up. Drawing another deep, calming breath, he leaped forward off the pillar before it could vanish beneath himâ€"he didn't so much like the sudden sense of free-fall that the pillar vanishing beneath him gaveâ€"and opened his wings in a fluid movement and, beating them lightly, propelled himself forward and onto the last pillar.

He landed lightly on it, trying to catch his breath. Okay...so it was over now, then. The trial was done. He was on the last pillar, after all! But...nothing was happening...

That's when he heard it, the tell-tale sound of powerfully beating wings, the rush of air...he instinctively looked up, then gasped aloud. Great. Just...flippin'...wonderful.

He didn't have time to ponder further, though. With a yelp, he leaped aside as the black, demonic looking beast crashed to the ground where he had once been, it's wings large and leathery with barbed spikes at the tips, it's fangs dripping saliva, its eyes a brilliant, blood-red. It looked almost like a giant bat...except that its body was disgustingly twisted and deformed, and sported long, jagged claws. And that, unlike the others, it flew.

ACK! How was he supposed to beat THAT!?

With a cry of alarm, le leaped backwards as it slashed at him...and toppled backwards off the edge of the pillar.

Snapping his wings open painfully, he beat them as powerfully as he could and soared upwards and over the beast, clutching his sword like it were his lifeline. Which, in a way, it was. And, to his horror, the beast gave a rasping hiss and launched after him, large, powerful wings easily gaining altitude far faster than Sanyu could hope to.

In desperation, Sanyu watched the beast, trying hard to find any weaknesses he could use. The beast's flesh was soft, he could tell, so...stomach, throat, eyes...but all those were in the front! The thing could easily grab him that was and tear him to bits!

Then...another thought struck him as he watched those powerful wings beat, gaining on him. Of course. His wings! The membranes on them were thin and leathery...if he could jab a good hole in themâ€"without tearing his own wings to pieces.

Gripping the sword, he folded his wings and dove down toward the creature, which lashed out at him, but, thankfully missed as he dropped down below it, snapping open his wings and soaring back upwards and behind the beast. As quickly as he could, he thrust the sword upwards.

A loud tearing sound met his ears, a horrible sound, and the beast gave a great howl of pain. Something wet and hot dripped on Sanyu, and he cried out as it stung his flesh, but knew enough to get out of the way as fast as he could as the beast began to drop, it's wing sporting a large, gaping hole.

Just as Sanyu moved out of the way, it fell, turning, and lashed out at him with one clawed hand, snagging Sanyu's wing and tearing a diagonal slit down one of the membranes...

And just like that, Sanyu felt himself begin to fall after the beast, beating his wings desperately to keep airborne. But he could feel himself slowly falling, despite his efforts, as he struggled to reach safety...

Sanyu landed in a rathe soft bed of grass, his fall having not even been a real fall and the tear on his wing had vanished. Mahath then appeared, walking casually towards Sanyu with a pleased look about him.

"Well done," Mahath said, coming to a stop and looking over Sanyu's very much exhausted form. "That's probably the most work you shall have to do with your wings, but that's only hoping." Mahath added.

Mahath thought for a moment. "Hungry?" He asked, looking behind him to the village.

He stared in wonder as the tear in his wing vanished, then grinned pleasedly at Mahath's praise, flashing the beginnings of fangs. "I'm starvin'!" he exclaimed, wiping sweat from his brow with a hand. His multi-colored hair, usually spikey, was plastered to his head, matted down with sweat. Geez...that had been freaky! He hoped he didn't have to do anything like that again...though he didn't openly admit it.

Folding his wings, he took a deep breath, trying to stabilize his breathing. He couldn't remember a time he'd been more exhausted! He hoped his shaking knees weren't that noticeable; he felt like they should crumble beneath him if he stood much longer!

Mahath's hand slapped Sanyu on the back in pride as he lead the young demon into the village and towards a tavern. "Remember everything you are taught, Sanyu." Mahath instructed, his voice sounding almost fatherly, but at the same time darkness surrounded it. "And know that as you train, so does Ahlekk and your friendship with Lilith only grows weaker with him around. Lies will corrupt her mind and she will hate you once the angel and Ahlekk can currupt her thoughts. Every memory you share will be manipulated until they draw you out to be some horrible monster. Remember that," he said levelly. "Remember all that is being done against you, and remember how this all makes you feel, how much it angers you."

Mahath let it all set in with Sanyu as he told the waitress to bring out the breakfast specials, knowing Sanyu would be hungry. The waitress returned soon after with plates of eggs, sausage, bacon, toast and other foods and layed them out on the table. Mahath didn't eat, but keeping his young demon healthy and strong was one of his top priorities.

When Mahath slapped Sanyu on the back, he staggered a little despite himself. Gads, he was tired...but he was even more hungry!

As he sat down to eat in the tavern, shoving food hungrily into his mouth, he idly thought about what Mahath told him, his mind digesting his words just as his sto,ach digested his food. He didn't like to think that what Mahath said was true. Lilith would never betray him! Mahath was wrong about that. But...but then...what if she started believing them? Vernados would certainly be trying to make him out to be a monster, and Ahlekk would be quick to believeâ€"he knew Ahlekk had hated him! What if Vernados was brainwashing Lilith?

Swallowing a bite of eggs, he looked up at Mahath. "When...when this is all over...um, how'll I make Lilith believe that I'm good and Vern and all them were lying?" he asked quietly.

Mahath kept his usual composure, but he was deeply pleased with Sanyu's question. Mahath's answer would only help Sanyu dwell on his uncertainties. "You claim to be the best of friends, let that be all you need. If she denies you the friendship you've had for so long, than it would be of her doing and her betrayal." Mahath answerred smoothly. "If she is truly your friend, everything lie they speak of you should not even dwell in her thoughts." He added.

"And I do assure you: they will lie and manipulate the truth. You, Sanyu, are chosen to be one of the leaders of the darkness, muchlike myself. Very few come close to having such power. I've been alive for.. well, let's just say I've seen the earth's rebirth many times over and it seems it always ends in our rule. The only problem is keeping it. This is where you would come in. You will help lead an army of demons and others like us. Those who defy us will perish and those who accept it will live with us in peace. I have no doubt that you and your friend will be reunited once again, though that day will only come when you can bet your life on the deaths of Ahlekk and the angel and only then." Mahath informed him. Sanyu now knew his purpose, his calling. He knew that if Lilith accepted him, which by all means she should, she would be spared death and would live with him in paradise. Those who defied the "unity" of darkness and light would be killed. Ofcourse, Mahath knew all of the light would openly defy it, and thus darkness would reign. Sanyu's mind was still young and easy to shape and mold. He would believe that the intentions of the poor, misunderstood demons were nothing put pure. Darkness would reign as long as Sanyu remained strong and could defeat Ahlekk, Vernados and Lilith.

Yes, that challenge he would face. Mahath knew that once years passed, Lilith would believe everything Vernados and Ahlekk told her. It was only natural to believe those who cared for you. And why shouldn't she. All she knew is that Sanyu left her and never returned. The demon slayers would be dead, the Guardian of the Earth would fall and once again darkness would reign. It's reign will be eternal.

Sanyu listened, noding in understanding, eyes lowering. Yeah...if he and Lilith truly were best friends, she'd believe him. So, she would believe him, in that case, 'cause they are best friends! They always had been, and always would!

...right?

He couldn't quite supress the voice of uncertainty that challenged that thought, and grimaced slightly. No! She wouldn't betray him! She wouldn't! That just wasn't like Lilith! They were best friends, and...and...

He chewed his lip nervously, and winced slightly as he was quickly reminded of his newly formed fangs. He pushed thoughts of Lilith quickly from his mind and focused on the other stuff Mahath had said. Lilith wouldn't betray him...he didn't need to dwell on that anymore! Because they would stay best friends forever...

"Wait...ya mean...we're gonna kill people!?" he asked suddenly. Perish...that was another word for die, he remembered! Deaths of Ahlekk and Vernados!? Wait! He didn't like 'em, but he didn't plan on actually killing anyone! "I-I don't wanna be a murderer!" he gasped. "I mean...I'll do everything else, but...but...I wanna do everything else! But I don't wanna kill no one! An' I especially don't wanna hurt Lilith!"

Mahath shrugged. "Sanyu, think about it for a moment. When you left, what was Vernados teaching Ahlekk and Lilith to do while youw ere outside? He was teaching them to fight, am I correct?" Mahath asked, though did not wait for an answer. "The angel will be training Ahlekk just as much as I will train you. Ahlekk will have one goal on his mind, and that is to kill you and all others of demonic descent. It's not as if you will be killing randomly, Sanyu. it will be in defence or yourself and all others who can not defend themselves."

"Sanyu, look around you!" Mahath said, raising his voice to gain a more dramatic effect. "One village in all this earth where demons are not persecuted and how many for Ahlekk and the rest of them? The entire earth! Do you want to stay here for the remainder of your life? If you and Lilith are together again, would you want to stay in one little village when there is an entire world out and just beyond your reach? I believe I saw you both at the beach once, would you want to give that up because Ahlekk and the angel do not understand you? It's a war that has raged since the beginning of time, the light against darkness."

Mahath looked at Sanyu closely and in the eye. "You would be a hero among your kin if you restored their freedom, if you restore the freedom for yourself and your friend." Mahath said. Yes, his words had been directed to what Sanyu would have wanted to hear. What would be worse than never being able to be with Lilith unless in this village? What would be worse than never again going to their favourite hangout at the beach? What would be worse than having his entire kin live without freedom? And because of Sanyu's relationships with Lilith, Ahlekk and Vernados, he was the chosen one. He could bing the entire demonic race out of the shadows and allowed to live in freedom among others.

He frowned, looking down. He didn't want to believe it. He really didn't want to believe any of this! But...but Mahath was right. Much as he hated to admit it, every word he spoke was filled with a truth that Sanyu secretly already knewâ€"but tried to avoid. But he could no longer avoid it any longer. Mahath was right...

"Why do humans judge us demons so badly?" he asked after a long moment. "I mean...what'd we ever do to them? I never did anything wrong, not to Vern of anyone!" He hardly noticed, but that was the first time Sanyu had ever referred toâ€"or thought ofâ€"himself as a demon and all others as humans. He had never made that distinction before, even after learning his own heritage. He had been vehement about not accepting it, about believing they were all the same.

Mahath's words were starting to affect him already. Already that barrier was breaking down.

"I don't wanna hurt anyone," he muttered. "But...if I have to...if I gotta to defend myself...guess I can't help it..."

"Well, we are sorely misunderstood." Mahath explained. "This war has always waged and those of the light feel it is entirely our doing and yet we've never been given a chance and only supressed and hated." He added levelly.

"Sanyu, the ability to fight is within your blood. Actually, your race is quite strong--very strong," he corrected himself. "And you have been chosen to help lead your kin to greatness. No greater honour could have ever found you, Sanyu. Once you defeat those who defy our freedom, you will be reunited with your friend and this world will be in peace as long as those who defy us are not alive." Mahath said, the more he repeated Sanyu's meaning in this whole war, the more it would drill into his young mind--all children, and adults for that matter, wanted to be a hero, to do something extraodinary.

A dark portal opened in on of the Dark Mage Village's many alleyways and from it stepped Valefa, who was all but fuming with anger. Not only was Sargatanas upset with her but, the Mistress of the thirteenth had also assigned a partner for her. A partner, Lady Sargatanas said, that would rendezvous with her shortly. How lovely. She took a deep breath and raked her auburn bangs away from her eyes, trying to keep the anger from sprouting in her expression or movements. Another deep breath and she stepped forward.

Neseraph's katana destroyed the dress she'd worn during her primier excursion in 'operation: find Enki'. And since most of her second excursion would be spent working off her debt to Mahath, which she hoped hadn't mutated much farther from training the student of his, she decided to go for clothing that wouldn't hinder said task. A white halter top, snug fitting black slacks, and heelless white shoes that clung to the contours of her feet.

Now to find Mahath, the last time she saw him it was he who came to her. This would be a little difficult. Well, if anything she could ask around, most that had dealt with the demonlord probably wouldn't forget much about him, he had a powerful presence after all. The half succubus turned a corner and, as luck (or the Devil, or God or whoever decideds such strange little matters) would have it happened to round the side of the restaurant said demonlord happened to be in.

However, Valefa nearly missed seeing Mahath, as she wasn't paying much attention to the inside of the building and more on the streets. She caught sight of him out of the corner of her eye, and stopped suddenly, clinging to the wall for support and peering in at him.

Staring was rude, at least for humans, and so she walked inside. It looked like he was talking with someone. The pupil perhaps? She'd been taught not to directly interfere with anyone's business affairs and with that in mind took a booth a respectable distance away. Tha half succubus picked up a menu and looked over the top of it, golden eyes full of interest.

Valefa blinked when Mahath addressed her without even looking in her direction. Was the demonlord somehow angry with her? Great, chalk up another one on the fast growing list of people fed up with her.

Sighing softly she rose from the table she was at and walked slowly to the table Mahath and Sanyu were at. Slumped into an open chair propped her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her palms. Not the most elegant of positions but hell, the only ones she was dealing with now were Mahath and the kid. Mahath didn't seem interested and the kid was, a kid, and just not interesting enough to her. As a half succubus it was almost blasphemy for her to think such a thing, but now all she wanted to do was complete her task, so she could finish her intial task. Talk about complications.

"Sure, better now than later," she muttered, bringing her hands up to massage her temples a bit. Her head was now the latest of her worries, it throbbed, the pain starting at her ears and flowing back into her skull. As she put her hands back down she smiled, well more like perked one side of her lips, at Sanyu. Kid, she thought again, not interesting

Valefa tried very hard not to try listening in on what Mahath whispered to the kid, Sanyu. A hard task for one practically raised with one ear ever at someone's door.

She failed. Oh well, she just kept a straight face and pretended to look at a guy ordering his food at another table. That is, until Mahath began talking to her again.

"Mmm-hmmm everything of importance, gotcha." She nodded, bringing her full attention back to the table.

Then the kid addressed her, and wasn't he precious. Little guy seemed awfully nervous for a demon spawn being trained by a figure such a Mahath. Her expression got a little colder, cute naive demon kid being mentored by a significant older demon, it was almost similar to...yeah. No need to take a trip down memory lane though, memories were for over emotional mortals.

She smiled a little, her expression warming up a bit. "You must be Sanyu, pleasure to meet you," she purred.

They take interest in this sorta stuff, since it'll also involve one of their own...especially since Yokanil was also from their tribe, so they'd be wanting to uphold their honor and whatnot. Stick Raijah and Makyo on the Light side. They don't believe in good or evil, and would only be doing it to get Yokanil and save the eeeearth! XDD But they'd be most at home on that side.

 No one understood what happened.

There had been rumors of Serendipity's upcoming downfall, yet- the day before the proposed attack Mina had just.....disapeared with her daughter. No one had been left in charge of the army, no messages had been left about Mina's wherabouts. Everything just..crumbled.

It had been hot then. Summer.

Now it was cold. Autumn.

No one feared the Dread Army anymore. It was gone; extinct. Everyone thought Mina dead.

Fools.

A well-dressed woman walked through the village, what looked like a little four year old girl clinging to her skirts. The woman had red and black hair.

Gold eyes.

She paused outside of the abandoned Dread Army headquarters and looked up at the looming facade. She raised a too-pale arm and pressed her palm against the door. "Home sweet home," she murmered coolly, fingers curling as she dug her nails into the wood and drew them briskly through the wood- drawing rivlets of blood from the surface itself.

Wait. Wood didn't bleed. Or, did it?

The woman opened the door and walked in, gesturing for her daughter to go sit at the abandoned bar.

The little girl went to do as she was told, but squealed when she saw the dead dwarf chained there; loyal to Mina's command even after her departure. He'd starved to death, unable to get to food or water from his shackled position at the bar.

The beautiful woman meerly smirked at the girl before she went to the table and looked down at the dusty scroll there:

"I hereby call the Dread Army," she spoke in a firm voice, laying her palm on the parchment, "Come, my warriors, it's a new day. A new time. Come to me, your Commander. Come to me, your Mina." The scroll began to glow..the names there becoming illuminated.

Mina's back. Different, yes. But, she's back.

The Dread Army has been ressurected, who dares return to it? And yet, who dares not to?

   Been so long...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"...Mina...?" The voice came from the doorway, a few minutes after the woman and child had arrived.

Holding the door partly open and glancing inside with wide, almost eerily blue eyes, a young man with red-gold hair stood motionless. Along his left cheek, standing out light against his golden skin, a scar ran from nearly chin to temple, and an assortment of many earrings and necklaces decorated his body. Even more clicked together unseen, bracelets hidden beneath the sleeves of his dark overcoat.

He'd always had a slight fascination with shiny things, what could he say?

Staring, silent for a moment, he slowly left the doorway to move further inside...and it was also then that his eyes fell upon the child...

Damn...that wasn't...couldn't be...

Yeah, he was floored, to say the least, and for the life of him couldn't think of what to say. All he knew was, something had told him to come here...and now...damn.

It had been just too long...and yet, it seemed like only yesterday that they had both vanished...

The little girl's eyes widened as she looked upon the man who she knew right away was her father. Her mother had told her such wonderful stories of this man, stories of their love, and how they both loved her so very very much. Her surruel eyes focused on the ankh necklace at his throat and she let out a squeal, leaping from her stool and racing toward him with arms outstretched. That was her daddy, no doubt, her marvelous brave daddy! "Da!"

Mina whirled in a billow of skirts, amber eyes widening very slightly at the man who had appeared first. Oh, and she'd known he would be the first! This is how she wanted it, so that she could allow herself a few moments to just...hold him. "Nakaris," she murmered his name, the word almost quivering. Oh, she knew he would hate her for leaving him, knew it deep in the bitter recesses of her cold heart! And, what if-? Oh Gods, what if he'd found another woman to be his? The Archmage suddenly found her legs couldn't quite support her, so she sunk down into the nearest dusty chair.

For a moment, Nakaris could only stare, as though expecting the two figures before him to vanish if he looked away, just as they had so abruptly vanished months ago. This might just be a cruel trick of his eyes, or yet another dream. But it was so real, and yet...who knew? After all, if there was one thing he was certain of, it was that anything was possible.

It was Vai that snapped him back to himself as she squealed suddenly and rushed toward him, and without even thinking, he met her halfway and swept her up into his arms. Gods, it was real! It had to be... "Vai..." If being separated from Mina had been painful, a pain such as he had never experienced before, being separated from his only child, his little daughter...he couldn't even begin to fathom putting it into words, nor did he think he'd want to try, actually. Besides, he was having a hard enough time organizing his thoughts at the moment, as it was!

But now that he was finally able to hold her again...all that was gone.

"My...ya've certainly grown, kiddo. Quite th' li'l lady, eh?" he told her affectionately, smiling softly at her. "But no boyfriends yet, alright?"

It was then that he heard Mina's voice, and he glanced up from Vai just in time to see her sink down into a chair...

Crossing the room quickly, Vai still in his arms, he went to her...and, though he wanted nothing more than to talk to her, to hold her after so longâ€"anything else could wait...where she had been, why...it just didn't matter right now, he didn't careâ€"he didn't want to let go of Vai yet, either.

But, he did, gently lowering her to the ground as soon as he was near Mina. "Gotta give yer mum some attention, too," he explained, before turning toward Mina. Relief and light-heartedness soon turned to concern, doubt...what if she had left because...ah...he didn't know. It didn't matter. Did it? Unless she'd left because...because...well...there were many possibilities...

But he chose right then and there to stop thinking about it.

Slowly taking a seat beside her, he turned and reached out a hand to take one of hers in both of his. "I...I missed ya, Mina..." he confided quietly, not knowing what else to say. But it was a start.

Vai giggled at her father's words, the sound driving over the room like bell-chimes. She hugged him tight, mumbling in his ear, "I missed you too, Daddy..I didn't like it at all! I wanted to come home. It was scary there." After he set her down, the little girl pranced about the room to peer out the dirt-streaked windows, sensing with some odd un-childlike intuition that her mother and father needed some time alone.

Mina's lower lip trembled as she looked at him, hands in his trembling to almost the same rhythm. She looked stiff and unnatural in the tightly laced dress- perhaps because it was fit more for a Duchess then the leader of a rogue band of misfits. Her amber eyes gleamed unnaturally in the dim light, the only emotion shown being that quivering lip. For a moment she just sat there and looked at him. Afraid, almost. Afraid he would refuse her. She didn't say a word, and after another moment of hesitation she moved. Vacating her chair, the commander slipped into her sub-commander's lap, pressing a powerful kiss against his lips...

Nakaris blinked at Vai's words. Scary there? Where had they gone? Well...no matter. Answers could wait, for now.

Watching Mina, that thread of uncertainty and doubt that he had been avidly repressing started working it's way through him, Mina's silence encouraging it, egging it on. She had left without a word to him, taking Vai with her...and he had been so afraid she wouldn't come back. But...why had she left to begin with? If she had told him, given him a reason, at least, he would have been reassured, but he'd been given nothing. He had...ugh...maybe he'd been a bit too overbearing and demanding. He hadn't meant to be, nor would he even dream of being soâ€"she was her own, strong person, and Nakaris always loved that about her. He'd just been concerned for her...especially so soon after her pregnancy...

But after she'd left, he'd been half-afraid that she'd perhaps taken his concern the wrong way. An irrational fear, but...it was really the only explanation he could offer for himself.

Whatever the case, there was yet another, perhaps irrational fear facing him, spurred on by her own look of...fear, maybe? He didn't know what it was, exactly, or why the thought came to him, but...well, he just couldn't help but fear that, perhaps, she had only returned to say goodbye. For whatever reason...

That all faded when she suddenly slipped into his lap, his arms automatically banding around her gently to hold her close as she pressed her lips to his, and as he gratefully, willingly, reciprocated. And if he had had any doubts, well...this effectively cleared those away. Just as he hoped the manner of his own kiss would address any doubts she herself had been suffering.

Thank Gods Vai was looking away. Wasn't exactly a family friendly kiss.

"Love... What is love? It is a pathetic emotion that disgusts me so. I would rather walk ten thousand miles through the flames of Hell, than allow such an emotion to linger around me. I will only put up with your feeble feelings towards one another as long as I get to spread death throughout this cursed Earth." Came a monsterously deep voice. The voice came from a black beast of demonic proportions. Xurlaq currently stands at a towering eight feet, not including the added height of his twenty or so horns. His massively muscular form leans against the frame of the door with his arms crossed, dark violet stripes barely visible. His enormously long tail waves around behind him with the wickedly bladed end of the tail barely missing everything behind him. He glares at the lovers with a constant glow of pupiless, blood red eyes. He seems to be ignoring the child.
"In the meantime, I will be outside. You people sicken me with your emotions." With his words, the hybrid demon stomps out of the room and outside of the building all together. Each of his steps cause the building to shake a bit. It's odd how he could enter the room, much less the building, without making any noice whatsoever, but leave with quite a racket. There's something peculiar about the demon's movements. If Mina would remember, she first recruited him when he was standing at twelve feet. Did he shrink?

Mina heard Xurlaq. Heard- true- but didn't give care. She meerly waved a hand behind her back at him, indicating she heard him. Rather then lessen her kiss she deepened it even further, almost biting off Nakaris' lower lip with her ferocity. Definetly not a family-friendly kiss..

Vai's eyes turned toward Xurlaq- recognizing him just as she recognized everyone. She trotted out the door after him, grabbing hold of his tail and giving it a little tug, giving him a mischevious look.

The only hint Nakaris gave that he had heard the demon's spiel was a soft, amused chuckle. A second later, and that brief interruption was forgotten as the kiss was deepened.

Damn, he'd missed her.

Drawing a hand up her back, he brought a hand to the side of her face, his other arm still around her, holding her against him as his mouth explored hers. And he didn't at all mind her ferocity...not when his own was no soft, gentle thing. Eyes closed, he kissed her deeply, as though he had been starving. And, well, he had.

Xurlaq noticed the little tug he recieved. He didn't care though. He continued to travel outside, even if it meant dragging the little girl with him. He found a spot by a tree and sat down, curling his tail around in front of him to see if the girl was still attatched or perhaps slipped off, being injured by the bladed part. He hoped for the second one, but it would be considered an accident. It wouldn't matter. Blood is blood.

Vai was still holding onto his tail, her hands positioned so as to not be harmed by the blade. Colorless eyes gleamed as she looked at him. This was no ordinary child, obviouslly. The little minx continued holding onto his tail firmly, her eyes meeting his and not dropping, "Xurlaq.." she muttered his name slowly, the strange little girl pronouncing it as if she was reading it from a book and had never seen it before.

Mina pulled away from the kiss after a moment, her lips slightly swollen. "Oh Nakaris.." She touched his face, fingers trailing down the path of the old scar and down the length of his neck to rest on his shoulder, "My dear Nakaris.."

A small grin formed on his lips as he looked at her, simply taking her all in. The woman he had missed so much. Despite the differences that were apparent on her now, she was still, at her core, the same Mina he had shamelessly fallen for.

Brushing hair back from her face and trailing his hand back down to rest lightly but firmly against her back as he held her close to him, kissing her brow gently. After she'd been gone, he just didn't want to let her go just yet, not for awhile. He'd missed the feel of her. Missed her.

"Gods...so glad yer back..." he murmured, his voice not at all angry. Just relieved. He wasn't angry that she left...he was just happy she and Vai were back. And curious as to where they'd gone. But, he didn't bring that up yet. That wasn't really important at the moment.

Xurlaq would have found Vai cute and adorable if he wasn't such a heartless demon. She was cute, to say the least, just not to him. He continued to glare down at the child. In his mind, he regretted letting the little girl tag along. He wanted to cause his tail blade to spin and get the little abomination stuck in the lethal thing, but decided to break his gaze on her instead. He laid back on the ground to glare up at the sky. He hated this world so much.

Vai kept her little hands firmly on Xurlaq's tail, giving it a little tug, Xurlaq," she said again, "Xurlaq. Xurlaq."

Mina smiled at him, "I'm glad to be back. I never meant to be gone so long. I never meant to be gone at all." Her face darkened, nestling closer to her love. She let out a sigh, and began to tell her story- slowly, all emotion drained from the words:

"Foxfire came to me one night and begged to speak with me. He wasen't drunk for once, so I oblidged. He told me bring Vai with me, which made no sense at the time but I did anyway. He led me outside and here he attacked me. Now, I could easily have taken him on my own, but Vai was in my arms and I was forced to protect her instead of using much offensive magic. Somehow, I'm not sure how, he knocked me out. The bastard knocked me out.
I woke up sometime later with a nasty headache and the realization wasen't in the village anymore. Foxfire had brought me somewhere on Sirena Island where my people are from. I was...naked, and tied to a tree. Oh, he hadn't touched me. No, he hadn't laid a hand on me. Anywhere.
Vai was missing. I started to scream for her, but then Foxfire appeared in his human form. He lit a fire..and he started to chant. Oh god, the bloody nag was doing magick. Then, my brother Palin appeared. The two did some sort of spell on me, and.."

Without another word, Mina undid the first two clasps on her gown's bodice to reveal the ruby implanted into the flesh between her breasts.

"They took the stone I had once treasured and forced it to bond with me. They took its magick, you will remember it as the magick that made me ill, and fused it with my own. I went through thirty nights and days of torment as my blood ran through the ruby. I spent those hellish days screaming and writhing in my binds. And, those wretches made Vai watch me scream..they brought her in around day three and made the poor girl watch her mother suffer.
By the last day I mastered the art of feeling beyond the pain. I managed to lay still without writhing, I managed to keep the screams behind closed lips. Foxfire let me free of the binds then...
He told me that he owned me now. He told me that he and Palin had done something with the ruby so I would be his slave. So that I would be his forever. Oh gods, Nakaris..he was so jealous of you.
He made me his slave. I could not help doing everything he said. If I did not he would make me scream and scream and scream. I became too tired by it to not bow my head and oblidge whatever he wished of me. He wished things I will never speak of aloud."

Mina's eyes were blank, but her fingertips dug into Nakaris' arm.

"Of course, I eventually freed myself from him. I found a way to harness the power he had over me, and use it against him. I was more adept then a miserable kelpie could ever hope to be. I made him slit his own throat. Then i found Vai and I left...
I stayed in Connoloath for a few weeks so as to try to forget everything. There I did not think of magick. I was just a normal barmaid with a normal menial job with a monotonous life.
Then..I came back. I'm ready to start my conquest again."

    *TWITCH!*
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nakaris listened to her story as she told it, a growing feeling of illness increasing within him as, with every word, the story grew grimmer and grimmer. From the way she had first started to tell it, he had felt right then and there that it wasn't going to be pretty. The way all emotion drained from her spoke volumes, giving him fair warning. But nothing could have prepared him for what she was now telling him.

God damn...he soon began to fervently wish her disappearance had been of her own accord, for whatever reason. That would have been infinitely better than this...than being taken somewhere against her will...he couldn't stand that thought...

His body was tense as he listened, and, in addition to shock, a sense of guilt began to build. Why hadn't he heard? She'd been attacked right outside...he should have heard it, shouldn't he have?

But he hadn't.

That should have been bad enough. But, indeed, it got worse as Mina explained the stone that was now embedded in her chest. And spoke of her days and days of torment. As she spoke, he drew closer to her, stroking her hair softly and soothingly as he listened.

Foxfire. Foxfire had done all this? Foxfire!? What. The. Hell!? And all in front of Vai.

And he was...jealous of him? Foxfire...was jealous of him!? That's why he did this!? He wanted Mina?

Nakaris had never seen that coming.

His body tensed more with every word Mina spoke, though he managed to keep his expression and touch soft. God damnit, he wanted to KILL the bastard! He and that fuckin' brother of her's! No...not kill. Killing was too quick. He wanted to make them scream and scream and scream like they'd made Mina, make them suffer for hurting Mina and hurting Vai. Vai...she'd said the place was scary. Gods, he would have never thought up this kind of scenario based off her words! She had been so calm...it was bad enough what they'd done to Mina, but to include Vai...

He held his anger at bay and focused on listening to Mina and comforting her as best as he could. When she had finished, it was a few moments before he could find his voice, for his mouth had turned dry. Finally, though, he swallowed and spoke.

"...Where's yer brother?" he asked, voice deathly soft, but then winced. That wasn't the first thing he had intended to say; he had meant to say something comforting. But it had been the first thing that had formed on his tongue once he regained the ability to speak. Foxfire had been killed...but Mina had said nothing of her brother. And as far as Nakaris was concerned, he was equally responsible. If not more for putting the spell on the jewel to begin with.

Vai held onto his tail- didn't let go. "Fillet! Fillet!" It sounded oddly like she was taunting...

Mina watched Nakaris' reaction throughout her whole story, eyes gliding along the strain in his muscles. She rested a slender hand against his shoulder, lightly massaging his tense muscles with her fingertips. "Palin..i don't know. i haven't seen him since.."

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nakaris hadn't been aware that he had tensed up until Mina's fingers found and began massaging his shoulder and, reflexively, he forced himself to untense a little. Though that proved a bit difficult. And understandably so! He was pissed. Not at Mina, by any means; none of this was her fault, and even if it had been her doing, he was just too relieved to have her back to be angry. No, he was angry at Foxfire for doing this to her and including Vai, at Palin for helping, at himself for being able to do nothing about it. Why hadn't he gone and looked for her? He probably wouldn't have been able to find her, anyway...but he had been convinced she had gone of her own will for her own reasons...

"Yeah...figures..." he muttered. The coward. Of course he wouldn't show his face now. "He best stay away, too. I'll kill 'im." He said it simply, as though stating a well-known fact.

He hadn't even known Mina had had a brother until just now, either. She'd never mentioned it to him, and the idea had never crossed his mind. But that didn't matter. He hated the bastard already. He didn't have to know about him in advance to know that he hated him now.

But...something told him that now probably wasn't the time. He should be being more supportive, as he wanted to be. Unfortunately, that never was his strong point. He never knew the right words or appropriate actions.

Taking a deep breath, he shook his head slowly. "Mina, I'm...I'm sorry. I had no idea..." he said quietly, regretfully.

Xurlaq shot up from where he laid with the urge to backhand the child. Instead, he grabed her by the back of her shirt and plucked her away from his tail. His pupiless, red glow of a gaze glares at the girl.
"You are lucky you are the child of my current commander. Otherwise, I'd take pleasure in gutting you." The monsterous beast growls at the little girl before placing her back on the ground. He lays back on the ground to glare at the sky.

Siyavash appeared back in town within a matter of minutes, taking the Shadow Roads immediately after the call from Mina had awoken in him. So...she was finally back and ready to get things back on track.

Actually, he was quite annoyed with her sudden disappearance and almost ignored the call. What type of commander would leave her plans half finished? Simply disappearing without a word along with her daughter and any trace that she had been here. But something had urged him to come back and he was willing to give this army thing one more chance. After all, he had no luck in finding Sahirah in the time he had been away...it was almost as if she had disappeared off the face of the earth with his amulet....and oh how he would love to have it if the siege were to take place soon. To have an entire army of shadows would be to their greatest benefit.

With a small puff of shadows he appeared beside the building where the commander now sat. With a sigh he stepped out of the shadows and entered into the house, his ebony staff clicking pointedly on the wooden floorboards.

Mina didn't reply to Nakaris, for that was when Siyavash appeared. She got up from Nakaris' lap calmly, running her hands down the bodice of her intricate dress so as to smooth out the wrinkles. "Siyavash- welcome back." The Archmagus inclined her chin slightly, offering the other a sinister smile. "All will be explained in due time." She seemed to be able to read his facial expression; she would tell the story to them all. They would all know of the transgressions that befell her.

Vai giggled, "Silly silly.." Her bright eyes gleamed, and she sat down, looking at him with her devilish eyes. She grinned wildly and touched his tail again. Oh yes, she was taunting him..

Da-hjok sighs loudly upon reaching the outskirts of the Dark Mage Village.

Why do the Earthians have to space their settlements out so far? Do they enjoy taking long journeys to get to them!

He sighs again, raises the ground behind him a bit and sits on it. He crosses one leg over the other and examines the bottom of his shoe, by some miracle it still looked sturdy. That couldn't be said for the foot inside it however which, if throbs of pain could be translated into music would be playing 'Swing low sweet chariot'. He twirls the black and red ring around his finger about a few times out of habit, another sigh follows the ring twirling.

Earth is so banal, he thinks mentally sighing after that.

To the eyes of an outsider Da-hjok looked like a teenaged kid with a funky hairdo and an interesting scar. But, in truth he was an extraterristrial outlaw on the run from the minions of the largest empire in the cosmos, Felinonia. The Earth was such a backwater planet and it's close proximity to Saturn, the homeland of the Saturnari who just so happened to be allies of the Felinonians, made it the perfect ironic place to hide. At least it sounded good in his mind, he had no idea it would be this dull.

Da-hjok sighed for the fifth time and attempted to vent his boredom by watching the Earthian mages go about their duty.

Tala sprawld face fist , the claws on her gloves digging into the ground, and her blue hair fanned above her head.
" ouch"
She yanked er claws from the ground then turned around, a goofy grin on her face.
" sorry about that, I wasn't watching where I was going"
She said getting up, she felt something drizzle down her neck, she put her hand to it, and quickly pulled her hand back.
" I lost my scarf, great, now the stupid vampire bite will bleed freely...."
She looked up and grinned again , showing off her fangs, she quickly stoped
"uh..yeah well I'm Tala and I gotta go find a healer ,see ya later, bye !"
She waved then began to walk away, one hand on each side of her neck.
'thats the last time I mouth off to vampyers'
She roleld her sun set eyes and kept going.

Da-hjok scowled when the blue haired girl tripped over his leg. "You might want to get into the habit of it," he sneered in response to her remark about watching where she was going. The movement of her hand towards her neck caught his attention, and his curiousity about it is sated moments later by her comment about being bitten. Heh, figures someone that wasn't aware of their surroundings would get bitten, but by what did she say it was, a vampire? Sounded like a viscous animal, especially if it aimed for the neck. A grin perks at the side of his face when she makes her hasty introduction. In search of a healer eh, he thinks.

He stands up, and places his feet apart, spreading his weight evenly among his feet so they wouldn't hurt. "I could heal you, if you want," he says in a slightly louder tone, hoping to catch the fleeing woman's ears.

Neviko watched the antics of Tala amusedly, though when her eyes saw the blood dripping down Tala's neck, her stomach suddenly lurched in hunger. It had been a while since she had fed last...and she could practically smell the metallic, bittersweet scent of the precious liquid...

Yet...as she listened, she instantly became turned off. That girl had been another vampire's prey, then? Instantly, she reconsidered. Bah. Neviko never took sloppy seconds; where was the fun in that? She'd rather miss a meal...she was a woman of high standards, after all.

Tossing her long black hair, her cold gray eyes instead moved to the one Tala had so gracefully tripped over, who looked bored to death. A small, amused smile curved her lips at that figure of speech.

"You look so bored, I could almost pity you," she murmered silkily, walking toward him slowly, her eyes sweeping over him. Hmm...not bad. A little on the short side, but blood was blood, and he looked a good catch, all in all...

Tala stoped in mid step then turnd around, her hands still on her bleeding neck.
"huh?"
She began walking towards Da hjok, then noticed the woman beside him, she wiped her silver blood off her neck, then put her hands to her sides, She glared at the woman with her sunset colored eyes.

She looked at Da hjok and greatful smile on her face,She glared at the woman, then began to speak to Da hjok
" I think we should do this somewhere else"
She moved her hands so the eight-inch claws on her gloves reflected the light.
" I would go away if I we'er you vampire, I just got bittin by two of them, I can tell your one too."
She said coldly her oddly colored eyes flashing.

Da-hjok raises an eyebrow a bit when Neviko approaches him. That eyebrow arcs downwards when her comment registers though. "It'd better stay that way," he snarled. Pity was for weaklings, and he didn't consider himself weak at all. Sure he was running away from all those that wanted to see him imprisoned or worse, but that was tactical. Only an idiot would think they could defeat so many opponents.

He ignores Tala's first plea to get out of there. There was no way he was going to slink away from her with his tail between his legs. Her second comment however really piqued his interest. So that was what a vampire was, some humanoid thing that bit people. How pleasant. Again he lifts his hand, his ring loose around his finger, but this time not out of habit.

Neviko glanced over at Tala, feigning a hurt expression. "Why, deary, just because I am light-skinned and beautiful does not automatically make me some undead freak. In fact, I am offended that you would even assume such a thing!"

She smiled sweetly, in a learned way that kept her fangs concealed behind her lips while looking perfectly natural, and returned her gaze to Da-hjok. "Goodness, you do not have to be so testy," she pouted, drawing closer. "I swear I don't bite."

Da-hjok raised an eyebrow, Tala seemed hysterical, Neviko seemed to be rational. Perhaps the bitten woman was just being overly paranoid.

The corners of Da-hjok's lips raised involuntarily when Neviko smiled at him. Even if her fangs had been visable the alien wasn't familiar enough with vampires to be overly worried about a humanoid with fangs. Her pouting and later statement about not biting picked at his brain. Either she was truely offended by being called a vampire or she was one and was trying too hard to cover that fact up. Hmmmmmm.

"What is it that drew you here then miss?" One side of his mouth perked higher than the other.

And a good-looking face, at that," she said with a wink, a charming smile curving her red lips as she drew closer.

"Now, what is it that drew you here?" she asked politely, and looked down at the raised ground her was seated on pointedly. "Care if I join you?" she added, idly toying with a long lock of her black hair.

The quickest way to Da-hjok's sliver of a good side was by appealing to his ego. Which wasn't overly hard, since the thing was about the size of an ore hauler and tended to choke out others if both happened to be in the same room. Of course there was the nit-picky little detail of all his other little personality quirks, a variable feild of land mines around him. But, so long as one knew not to move after hearing the 'click'...

A little grin slithers up one side of Da-hjok's face and he beckons more earth to rise up, widening the little dias he already sat on. He pats the little improved seat and glances up at Neviko. "Even enough. I was wandering around and happened to run into this little establishment. What do you residents call your little home?"

She smiled again at him, her smile brightening, as he spoke. So far, so good. He was grinning, and thus trusting her, thus far. And he had accepted her presense. "I see. Aye, I was a wanderer myself, until I ran into this place, and found it to my liking. Perhaps you shall stay, too, for at least a little while?" She grinned, her fangs still carefully hidden. "Oh, by the way...I'm afraid I don't know your name. I'm Neviko."

One eyebrow again perked at Tala's behavior, maybe she was saying something legible. But she was still alive how bad could they be? Unless vampire bites made people go crazy...
He glances casually at Neviko's leg, she certaintly was friendly not that he minded in the slightest.

"Mages," he muses aloud, trying to make sense of the unfamiliar word. Cycling through his Earthian vocabulary mentally he manages to come across a somewhat similar word, Magician. Must've been a slang term. Oh well, he puts the matter aside and starts paying attention to her again just as she ends her talk on staying here. "Eh? Ah yes, I'm sure I'll be staying here a while. I'm no particular hurry to be anywhere." He nods once she introduces herself, leaning towards her slightly and crossing one leg over the other.

"My people call me Da-hjok, but you may call me Akarsis Raë."

"Pleasure to meet you, Akarsis Raë," she said softly, a near purr, smiling at him. "It pleases me that you shall be staying. It's been so long since I've seen someone handsome and charming as you..." she continued pleasantly.

She ignored Tala completely, and focused her attention solely on Da-hjok. Thankfully, Da-hjok didn't seem to know much about vampires, and thankfully he seemed to ignore her, as well. He seemed to think she was crazy, which was good! Now that that annoyance was out of the way, hopefully she would able to get her meal.

Well...she could have bitten him already; he was close enough, and it wouldn't be hard, but that approach, in Neviko's mind, was sloppy. There was an art to luring the victim to you...the other way was just messy, though, sometimes, she did have to resort to it, such as when she was too hungry and impatient to play the seduction game. Or when said game failed. But that method, in addition to being just plain sloppy, was also far from failure proof. Outright attacking someone was a big risk, as they could in that instance retaliate. But gaining the person's trust first before gently taking their life away...that had a better success rate, all in all.

Ah well. So far, so good.

If one had the means to sense the ego of a person and just so happened to turn those means towards Da-hjok, at this particular moment in time they would notice it billowing out from his rather modest form and spreading to wreath the earth in a vast corona, with the ends licking the surface of the moon.

"Likewise Neviko," he drawled. "It's been quite a while seen I've been graced by the presence of such a fine woman." One side of his lips curved upwards and he began to spin his black ring again. More out of habit then out of any suspicion or paranoia.

OOC: Sorry! ^^;; Ahh! Bad Rhi! *slaps wrist* BAD! Neglecting threads...ahh!

IC:

She actually allowed herself to giggle and blush. Blushing, for an undead creature such as herself, was quite the art, and she had mastered it. Using whatever blood still remained in her body from her last feeding, she let it rise to the surface, heating her cheeks, making her appear even more attractive than she already was by adding a dash of color to her light skin. She always made sure she fed before she got to the point of starving; feedings always made her appear more...alive and vibrant...and if she let herself go as some of her kind did, feeding only when she absolutely needed to...well...that would just be...unpleasant.

"Goodness, but you are a charmer!" she exclaimed. "It surprises me that you should be alone! I should expect to see women throwing themselves at your feet as you pass! Guess I was just lucky, hmm?" she mused aloud, absently emphasising her words with a casual carress against his chest with a hand.

One golden eyebrow arched upwards and the side of his lips pulled out further at Neviko's comment and touch. A soft snigger passes his lips followed by a quick sigh. "Maybe in an ideal world. Though this one is becoming more ideal by the moment," he muses.

A sudden yawn almost bursts from his mouth, he quickly raises a hand to dam it up though. Damn bodily needs. Then again falling asleep while being talked to isn't a healthy course of action anyways. "Please pardon me Neviko," another soft laugh escapes his lips. "My body's trying to tell me something. You wouldn't happen to know a good place to stay in this village would you?"

Neviko quickly repressed the wave of sudden annoyance that rippled through her. She absolutely loathed playing the silly, flirtatious strumpet and this guy was making it a lot more difficult for her! Of course, she made sure to show none of her actual emotions, and kept her outer appearance pleasant and interested. And she truly was interested...in his blood.

She was careful to make sure her voice held none of the tightness and edginess she was feeling at this particular moment. She was all sweetness! "It's alright," she told him, laughing softly. "I'm sure you've traveled much this day, and it only stands to reason you should be exhausted! Aye, I know of a place. There's an inn not far from here. I can show it to you, if you like. As long as I get a good night kiss!" Once again, blood heated her face, making her blush deeply, as though the words had slipped out entirely on their own. She gave a sheepish laugh, clearing her throat. "Ah...I mean..."

Inwardly, she cringed.

Da-hjok smirked. Earthians had a term for Neviko's last statement, and he couldn't remember it for the world. Curses.

He stood up, crossing his eyes a little when his feet protested. "Sounds reasonable," he said in a teasing tone. "Right now I'd give anything for a soft bed and a drink," another yawn peirced through his mouth and he flipped a hand up to cover his mouth. Once the yawn passed he stretched both arms a little and put them behind his head. "Lead the way."

Neviko couldn't help but grin a little when Da-hjok mentioned the word "drink". Heh...same here..., she couldn't help but think.

"Well, then, follow me. Lucky for you, it's not that far away. Poor dear, you certainly look exhausted!" she commented with feigned concern as she rose gracefully to her feet, lightly and absently brushing her fingers against his chest as she passed by him. After seeing that he was ready, she smiled softly back at him over her shoulder and started off ahead of him in the inn's direction. And, of course, the temptress in her made sure to remember to twist her hips a little more than usual when she walked.

All rather innocent forms of flirtation. Nothing too direct. But she had learned over time that sometimes the more subtle you were, the better the results.

And, when all else failed...there was always the less graceful and more desperate act of actually throttling your prey. But was just so tactless.

Maybe there was a greater benevolent power that looked out for the well being of the hapless members of the universe occasionally. He was having quite a bit of luck this day

He would have a roof over his head, sleep in a proper bed, perhaps get something stronger than water to drink, and maybe, just maybe have a little company.

He was on his feet soon after Neviko stood and followed close behind her. At the most a pace and half. He couldn't help but to look around at the village a little as they walked, taking a glance and looking back to make sure Neviko hadn't turned.

Woah, was she. what did that old servant of his say humans called it, switching? So that's what it was! It certaintly was a fascinating feat. Suddenly, the surrounding village didn't interest Da-hjok so much...

Neviko grinned to herself, and every once in a while glanced over her shoulder to peer back at Dah-jhok and offer a salacious smile. Good, good, he appeared to be right where she wanted him. For that matter, it took a good effort not to laugh at his fascinated expression. Heh. Amazing what a difference a little "switching" could make.

Silly males.

Before too long, they had come across a small two story building appropriately labeled as one of the village inns. Turning to face Dah-jhok, Neviko allowed an expression of disappointment to spread across her face, her full bottom lip poking out just a little in a slight pout as she regarded the inn. "Well, darling...I suppose this is where we part ways?" she asked ruefully, yet in a way that she hoped implied that she wished this were not the case. Which was partially so, though in a different way than what was implied. Even at night, the village was busy; she couldn't just take him right here in front of everyone, like she truly wished, and even if she could...well, she still didn't know his strengths and weakness; she could pick up nothing, though she could see he was clearly exhaustedâ€"a good sign. And as for herself...hunger was gnawing at her insides now, making her feel a bit drowsy. She was not at her strongest...and thus had no leeway to take chances.

Of course, if she wanted to, she could always look for another victim...but she didn't want to! That would take more work, and she had already come so far with this target.

Besides, though she would never admit it and would vigorously disagreeâ€"even with herself!â€"she truly did like the thrill of pursuing more difficult victims...

Now, if only he would pick up on her hint...

The ever present smirk that almost always graced Da-hjok's lips stretched a little wider. Ah, there was never a sight quite as great as an inn at the end of a long day. Except perhaps, a girl in front of the inn saying goodbye, but meaning 'wanna spend more time together'.

"I would think not. It wouldn't hurt me to have a companion this evening."

There was a nagging little detail wailing at the back of his mind. Money. He didn't even know what sort of money system Earth was using! And what an excellent time to realize that. Blast, he wasn't an Artificier for nothing. He stooped and snatched a few pebbles from the road, palming them in the cuff of his robe before standing again.

A soft smile curved Neviko's lips, that same careful smile that kept her vampiric fangs concealed beneath her lips. With a happy laugh, she reached up to brush long fingers lightly against his cheek. "No...a little company never hurt anyone..." she murmured, almost on the verge of purring. Heh...that is to say, it never hurt her. Whether or not it hurt her victims...hm. She couldn't say. She imagined most didn't feel much pain...most seemed to die with at least pleasant thoughts.

"And you, dear, look like you are in need of companionship. As am I...I would love to get to know you better." She gave a little chuckle. "I must admit you fascinate me, Da-hjok."

She blinked as he bent and picked up some pebbles, sticking them in his robe, but quickly smoothed her confused features. Hrm. He was an odd one, indeed.

   When Da-hjok sneezed...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Da-hjok raised an eyebrow and smiled suggestively. It was then that a little paranoid corner of Da-hjok's mind woke up and began clamoring for attention...

Don't you think she's being too nice?? It plea- whined.

No. What do I need to worry about an Earthian for anyway.

You already had an Earthian a week ago! Focus! Focus! You aren't here to dally with Earthians!

Da-hjok ignored the little corner. Only insane people had debates with their own minds.

"I have that sort of effect on people," he said smoothly.

The corner's train of complaints and warnings was halted then by a flash of inspiration. Almost every place Da-hjok had ever been accepted gems as payments for services. Earth couldn't be backwater enough not to see any value in the stones. He held the pebbles before him and looked down at them, narrowing his eyes slightly.

The stones reddened, their surfaces becoming smoother until they reflected light. That ought to do it, even if they were small they should be enough for a night in an inn out in the middle of nowhere. He put the gems into a pocket and smiled roguishly at Neviko before stepping toward the inn's door.

   It rolled off the taaaaaable...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Mm...so I've discovered..." Neviko purred, smiling softly up at him, somehow managing to hide the sudden flash of amusement she felt. Heh...how she so loved the egocentric ones. They were among the easiest to snare. All you had to do was stroke their pride a little, and they were as good as yours. They loved themselves so much, that in turn they loved those that would place them on a pedastal. It was way too easy.

Unfortunately, Neviko knew this from experience. She herself was shameless in her pride. But, she also had a safe-guard; after playing on people's egos for so long, she figured she'd be able to see the warning signs if someone tried to play her the same way.

Glancing down as Da-hjok's attentioned dwindled from her and shifted over to those rocks she'd seen him pick up, another carefully concealed flash of annoyance replaced amusement. What was he doing, anyway? She didn't have all night! She just wanted to weaken him and drain him and be done with this, and he was certainly taking his sweet time playing with rocks when most men would be hurrying to play with her! Damn, she was hungry...she actually thought she was beginning to grow a bit light-headed. Argh...

But then, as she watched, they began to...change significantly. Enough to, soon, resemble gemstones.

Whoa...some trick. Not that she cared much for such trinkets; she had no need for money beyond what was required for shelter and clothing, not when she hunted her own food. And even money for clothing wasn't always required when she could procure it from one of her victims. But, regardless, she had to give him credit for thatâ€"especially since it had only recently dawned on her tha she had forgotten her own money.

Nice save.

As he stepped toward the inn, she returned his smile with a suggestive smile of her own and stepped up to him so that she could loop her arm in his. "Lead the way, dear..."

   And onto the flooor...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Da-hjok smirked and marched into the inn with Neviko. Renting a room on Earth couldn't be much different than getting a room anywhere, only he didn't have to worry about being recognized. Anonymity was simply fabulous.

At least it would be if the inn's headmistress wasn't slumped against her counter and staring forward with glassy, unfocused eyes. Da-hjok's eyes crossed slightly and he knocked on the woman's forhead with his free hand. Her eyes focused somewhat and flickered up to look at them.

Earth wouldn't have carded locks, too advanced. What were those little gadgets called that opened a clockwork lock again? Keys, ah keys. "Give us the key to your best room."

The woman stared... blinked and stared somemore before she pushed herself away from the counter and reached a hand inside it. When it appeared again she held a little silver key with a leather tab embossed with red numbers. "This 'n?"

"Is it the key I asked for?"

A few moments of silence. She looked at the key, nodded and dropped it on the counter, slumping on it again soon after.

Da-hjok grinned and perked an eyebrow in amusement. Maybe it didn't cost anything to stay at an inn on Earth. Handy, something to remember the next time he was wandering between Earth's far flung settlements. He took the key and looked at the tab. Some of the paint was worn off, but the number read more or less: 14.

Da-hjok clicked his teeth and scowled a bit. "Hopefully the room won't be in the same state it's key is..." he grumbled.

   And then my poor meeeeeatbaaaaaaall...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Neviko couldn't help but perk slightly in interest as the entered the inn and the first thing she saw was a clearly very out of it woman. Immediately, her first initial instinct was to ditch her current victim and take the more vulnerable one. She didn't look like she was in a state where she'd put up a fuss, and if she struggled, she'd be easy enough to subdue. It would require little to no effort, and Neviko was hungry enough not to care if it would be sloppy form.

But then, pushing hunger aside and forcing herself to think more clearly, she was able to further assess the woman. She looked...a wreck. Who knew what she'd done to get herself into that kind of state. No, Neviko preferred healthy, rich blood, hence why she tended to target more...lively victims. She in no way wanted to risk picking up what that woman had.

Besides, even if the woman was up to par with Neviko's standards, there would be the issue of ditching Da-hjok...

Ah, the woes of having finicky tastes. Sometimes, she wished she could be more like her brother in that regard. The kid didn't care who he drank from. But, then again, he also drank very seldom, letting his body go without for as long as it could stand. So, he probably drank from anyone he could find out of sheer desperation. She could never do that. She hated feeling hungry and deprived; she'd felt that enough when she was alive, she didn't need it when she was undead! But, Kujin also possessed those silly things called morals...and had a strong aversion to killing. Silly kid.

Smirking in amusement, both at her thoughts and the current situation, Neviko stroked Da-hjok's arm soothingly, and simultaneously set to stroking his ego. "I wouldn't worry, darling...as long as you're in it, it matters not what state the room is in," she commented teasingly.

   Rolled out the dooor...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Da-hjok smirked. "I suppose you have a point. The right company can make any room bearable ... at least for a night."

Actually, any room with a raised surface he didn't have to create would be fine. His feet had been steadily complaining since the afternoon, begging and pleading to be taken away from the ground for a few hours.

Now to find that room. The inn's headmistress, or whoever that was working the counter, didn't look like she could tell them where her face was, much less the room. The counter was set in the center of the room, a door to the left lead off to what looked like a tavern area and just behind the counter were two staircases and further behind the staircases an open corridor with doors spaced at even intervals.

Da-hjok walked beyond the counter and noticed a little sign perched on the handhold of the staircase closest to him. It had a black arrow pointing up and the numbers 8 - 14. He took a step toward it, stopped, and scowled.

"Give me a moment," Da-hjok pulled a thin, silver, rectangular thing from his robe pocket, unfolded it and glowered down at it before folding it back and shoving it back in his pocket. If Neviko was looking she would see that the bottom half of the thing had rows of black squares with silver glyphs on them arranged in a smaller rectangle and the top half held the picture of a pale face with brown hair held up in a bun. This person opened their mouth to speak when Da-hjok before it was closed and put back in his pocket.

He smirked at Neviko and started for the staircase again.

   It rolled in the gaaaardeeeen...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Neviko looked questioningly over at Da-hjok as he stopped suddenly, pulling a silver, rectangular something from a pocket, which her gray eyes traveled to. Her eyebrows pulled together slightly as she took in the odd symbols, none of which were familiar in the slightest. She could readâ€"she'd had all the time in the world to become literate, as such came particularly in handy now and thenâ€"but those shapes were just that...shapes to her. But Da-hjok seemed to understand them, whatever they were.

Hmm...vaguely, she wondered where exactly he was from. But it was only a vague thought. She really didn't care; it was just a passing curiosity.

Even odder was that she thought she saw a picture of someone, shortly before he closed that thing back up. A picture that seemed to have moved.

Weird.

She followed after him again as he put it away and started up the staircase. "What was that thing?"

Heh. So much for passing curiosity. The question had bubbled out before she had even been aware of its formation!

((Ach, I forgot the rest of the song! Noooooooooo.....! Making up lyrics is fun though ^____^))

"This-" Da-hjok took the silver thing out of his pocket again and unfolded it, holding it forwards some so Neviko could see it as they climbed. The screen was now a flat grey-black and the glyphs, delicate curving signs with ends that tapered into points. "-is called a Com link. It lets people talk across long distances.

"I told that one specifically not to call me, and she's usually obedient," he shrugged, putting the Com link back into his pocket now that they were through going up the stairs. The room in front of them had a '12' painted on it in gold leaf. "I'll just call back in the morning, whatever she's calling about can't be too important or she would have called back by now."

Da-hjok looked down each end of the hallway. There were four doors to the left of the '12' door and two to the right. Hmm, fourteen, was it before twelve or after twelve? Fourteen... four-teen... Sendant... after, it was after. Unless the Earthian's counting was as awkward as their number system. He turned right.

Door '13' and there it was door '14', good. He fished the key out of the pocket he got the Com link from and unlocked the door after turning the key the wrong way, realizing that it wouldn't open and turning it the other way.

The room was a decent size and simply furnished. There was a tiny window and an average sized armoir on the leftmost side a wide bed and a little stand on the rightmost side and a door in the back that more than likely led off to a washroom of sorts. The entire room was drably colored; medium grey for the textiles and dull, dark wood on the wooden parts.

Da-hjok perked an eyebrow. "Could be worse," he quipped, stepping into the room.

   And jumped over the moon...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Bwahah, yes indeedy it is! Darn...can't remember the lyrics, either! O_o Craziness...)

"Ohh...interesting," Neviko exclaimed as Da-hjok explained, even though she really hadn't the slightest idea what he was talking about. Or, at least, she had an entirely different idea of what it was. Hmm...so, it was...kinda like telepathy, then? People who used telepathy could speak over long distances. Hrm. But, they also didn't need little fold-up...thingies...to carry around with them in order to communicate. Which was why she supposed it was like telepathy, only...not.

Or something.

Another time, if she had already been fed and she hadn't marked him out as a potential victim, she might have asked him to explain further. He was rather intriguing, in some ways; that hadn't been a lie. It was a shame, really. But not a big enough shame for her to feel the slightest bit of regret over her decision. Not that she had the capacity to feel regret, to begin with. Vampirism had destroyed many such useless emotionsâ€"though her brother still clung onto them foolishly. Silly kid. Life was so much easier free of attachments.

She smiled with hidden amusement as he continued to speak. Heh. Call her tomorrow, huh? Too bad there wouldn't be a tomorrow for him if things went her way...

Eventually, they found their way to the room, and Da-hjok's fumbling with the lock brought a soft chuckle from her. Charming. No...on second thought, though she was fatigued, she didn't think she should have much trouble with this one...

"At least it's clean," Neviko remarked optimistically, gazing about the room as she walked inside, turning as she went to take it all in. Ick. Drab indeed. But she supposed it went with the general decor of the village, though Neviko herself preferred brighter, more aesthetically pleasing coloâ€"

Gragh! What was she thinking about decor for!? Damn, she really was out of it.

Spinning to face Da-hjok, she grinned and held up her hands, as though framing him in her vision. "Mm...it looks better from this angle, I think."

   Said 'hi' to the Martians...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Da-hjok grinned, and his feet rudely informed him that any conversation or whatnot with Neviko could take place while he was sitting or even better lying down.

He decided to humor his aching feet and walked to the bed. Sitting, taking of his shoes, and swinging his feet up to the foot of the bed. Which was somewhat stiff, stiff for Da-hjok's tastes anyway. Once that demand was taken care of his mind decided to push its luck and suggest that a bottle of wine might be nice.

That plan was vetoed. This place more than likely didn't have room service. It'd be something for later, maybe in the morning. Human wine would be an interesting drinking venture.

Any other thoughts that didn't concern Neviko he now ignored. Late night think sessions were only for nights when he didn't have company. "It's even better from here," he purred, leaning back on his arms and smiling suggestively.

In their pink, polka dotted kilts...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was a good thing Da-hjok vetoed the plan for wine, too. Well, a good thing for Neviko. In Da-hjok's case, wine might have very well saved his lifeâ€"if Neviko had chosen to play along and drink some. Some types of vampire could drink the stuff with no problems, but in the case of Neviko and Kujin...it could result in a pretty nasty backlash, especially if they had little to no blood in their veins. In the state Neviko was currently in, even the smallest sip would go straight to her head, as she had scarcely any blood in her veins to filter the alcohol, and what blood was in her was being used to make her appear alive and healthy.

And it was also working hard to keep her body heated. Her body stayed warm naturally after feeding, but once her store of blood began to deplete, her body's temperature dropped, as well. Heat wasn't actually all that necessary. Mostly, it was just there so that others didn't freak out if they touched her or she touched them. Cold, dead feeling skin wasn't really all that pleasant to the touch.

Making her way over, and remembering how wonderfully "switching" had worked for her earlier as she applied the technique now, Neviko took that as an invitation and crawled up onto the bed once she'd reached it. A small wave of dizziness washed over her unbidden, making her sway. But rather than fight it, which she knew would make her fatigued condition obvious, she rolled with it, letting it bring her down to lay on her side, where she nestled in close to Da-hjok, propped up on an elbow, her free hand trailing lazily along his chest and one leg draped over one of his.

And their closeness, she soon found, was pure torture to her senses. This close, with hunger rearing its ugly head, she could feel his heartbeat beneath her hand, hear the blood running through his veins...

A small, salacious smile touched her lips as she leaned in closer to him. "Indeed it is, Akarsis Raë," she replied silkily, deciding this time to use the name he had originally suggested to her.

   They all danced the hu-laaa...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Switching wasn't half as fun to watch from the front as it had been from the back, but Da-hjok wasn't about to complain since she was headed for the bed.

And, once she was lying down, he remembered something. Back on the street she offered to lead him to a hotel room in exchange for a good-night kiss. Now seemed like a good time to pay her back.

A sudden mental scenario, albiet one quite out of place, tried to flicker across his mind. Da-hjok let it zip across but didn't pay any attention to it. He had a faint idea of what it was, so he could ponder over it another time.

He raised a hand and trailed the tips of his fingers lightly down her face. Once they were nearing her chin he leaned forward and kissed her.

[*nodnod!* Sadly, I get the same feeling... ;_; Oh well! Just means I can put my li'l kidnapper up for hire again. XD]

"Beer? Probably, but..." That had been a random question. After all, the voices were growing louder, coming closer, and though Keina didn't visibly display the emotion, he was starting to feel a tad uneasy. He had no qualms about tailing a mob to find out what all the fuss was about, but to have a charging mob heading in your direction...eh, that wasn't too good a position to be in. All things considered, Keina didn't exactly have a squeaky clean record, either. Sure, he'd been hired by a noble family to stage a kidnapping, but that didn't make the act any more lawful if he was caught, nor did it nullify his past exploits.

He wasn't too keen on being recognized, and when people were pumped up and suspicious like in mobs, it was easier to be recognized.

Hell, when people succumbed to the mob mentality, they weren't beyond lynching anything that moved that wasn't part of their little posse. People were crazy like that.

"Hm..ya up for a drink on the go?" Keina offered with a wry grin, lowering his feet to the ground and walking around, seemingly unhurried, to what was once probably a pretty nice bar, but was now literally falling apart. He vanished behind it for a moment, crouched down as he shifted through the rubble. Bottles clanged together as he moved them out of his way, frowning. Erk. Seemed like someone had had the same idea, only long before they. Ah! Well...there was a bottle of wine...it was half empty, but it still looked good, not that Keina was good at telling these sort of things. He'd never been a drinker; you had to keep a clear head if you ran the kind of business he did, if you could call it that.

Reappearing and walking back around toward the door, Keina smirked and held up the half-filled bottle, turning a little to glance at his companion. "There's some wine, at least. Some wino beat us to it, seems. Catch!" With that as his warning, he tossed the bottle over toward the man, then turned to peer carefully out the door. "Dunno about you, but I'm splittin'. Those crazies are almost on us. Comin'?" Casually, he reached back and tightened the leather tie that held his red-brown hair back in its messy ponytail. Hair could be such a pain...no use having it come undone and get in his way while he ran. It'd probably be a lot easier if it was shorter...but the women always seemed to like it.

Lycansea frantically searched for a place to hide. The villagers behind him were getting closer by the second. He couldn't possibly out run them. He was panting heavily and his legs felt like they were on fire. His long bluish green hair kept flying in front of his ornate mask. He almost screamed in frustration. As he turned into a dark alleyway, he almost gagged at the incredible stench the wind brought. Horse manure! Was there anything as disgusting and foul as that?
"He ran into that alleyway!"
With a rising sense of panic, Lycansea put on an extra burst of speed. He could hear the footsteps right behind him. He burst through the alley and headed towards an old, burned down bar. He noticed that the walls looked like they were once a bright red. Of course, it was pure laziness on the human's part that they never took the thing down. He glanced back to see that they hadn’t made it out yet. The stupid humans were probably fighting each other to fit into it. He was laughing at the thought when he ran head-on into the old bar.

A large chunk of the roof fell mere inches from him. Lycansea was knocked off balance and landed squarely in the foul manure.
"Where is that bastard?!" a man's voice bellowed.
Lycansea was a bit stunned from the fall. He tried vainly to collect his muddled thoughts. Loud pounding feet surrounded him. The noise they made was almost deafening to his sensitive ears.
"I think that is him!"
The clamor rose to an unbearable pitch. Were they talking about him? Lycansea thought he was a dead man. Closing his eyes tightly, he prayed. His prayers were quickly answered and the noise slowed died away. He waited a moment before moving. He fought drunkenly through the manure. He stood there for a second wondering what had happened to him.

Then it came back in a flood. Damned humans! He came from across the land to buy new clothes. He now only had a filthy rag around his loins. It chafed so unbearably against his sore thighs. He had thought about leaving it, but his modesty wouldn't allow that. Plus, he couldn’t go into the village butt-naked. The sun had burned his sensitive back mercilessly. His skin had turned a horrible red color and was peeling everywhere. He was so thirsty he thought he would die.
Stupid boy! If that little bastard didn't steal his clothes, he wouldn't have had to come here. He wished he could find that boy and throttle the life out of him.

After "weeks" of traveling he had finally made it back to a cornfield. A young girl had taken pity on him. She gave him food and clothes. He only had a few coins to give her. She deserved more than that. She was a virgin... Her family thought he should marry her. He said he would rather die. Bad choice of words he supposed.

He vainly brushed at the manure. It had ruined his nice new clothes. Luckily he still had his money. He counted it silently, when he his ears picked up a noise...

(OOC: Hey! That is your cue!)

"Where the hell am I?" was the question I had been asking myself for nearly two hours. Tania said to go past the cornfields then take a right then I would be at their campsite, the old bar. God, why do I always listen to her?
"OK" I said to myself "Calm down. I'm sure that I haven't passed this field before."
Well ok, I was lieing to myself. I seemed to be doing that alot lately, I thought. My mind continued to march on its angry routine as I walked along. Well, on the good side it was a beatiful day and....There was the old bar!
"Oh please don't tell me thats where I'm sleeping tonight..." I mumbled, feeling that all too familiar feeling of annoyance with the last of the triplets. I surveyed my surroundings. There were some broken in windows, the roof definately didn't look safe, and there was a man sitting in the grass counting his money and very sunburned. I had a brief image of a lobster with blue hair, but quickly put it to the side. Maybe I should go investigate this man and see if he was alright...I took a step then started walking towards him.
ooc- ok post was a little hurried, but thats ok.

"Hi Daine! How d'you like our new campsite? I'll admit it's not much of a sight to look at, but it's better than paying some high price at an inn. Do you want to come in? I was thinking you could call Crystal---Hello! Who do we have here? If I could hear your name, please." I spot the strange man in our campsite. He looks drunk. I lean away and let Daine deal with him. He stinks and has horse gunk all over him. Of course, if somebody really liked the smell of horse gunk, then it wouldn't stink for them now would it? Speaking of wood, I'd better clear off a space for us to sleep. I mosey off.

I pretend to be calm and brush my blonde hair out of my face with a patience I don't have.
"Oh yes. An inn would really be terrible right now. I'm sure glad you picked the first pig sty you found!" My voice slightly rose as I reached the word pig sty.

Tania seemed to ignore my comment and continue on with her questioning. I felt like pulling out my sword and stabbing her with it, but then I remembered the man and decided that it wouldn't make a very good first impression on him. I decided to join in on the conversation or else Tania might say something weird(which she did very often.)
"Yes a name would be very nice, sir." I say politely. There was a small tinge of anger in m voice, but I did my best to put on a nice smile.

"Lycansea. I was just... Walking and... I slipped in some..." Lycansea mumbled softly. He was humiliated to be caught in such a situation. Two girls finding him covered in horse crap! What luck he had. He thought about making some excuse to scamper off, but quickly brushed it aside. They probably have food. He couldn't turn down free food. Perhaps they even knew where he could clean himself off.

Hopefully they didn't want to start a fire. He hated fire. Water was a far superior element. Humans always seemed to love fire. Who needs it? To cook food? Bah. Meat was better when it was fresh off the bone.

Lycansea fixed his ornate mask, self-consciously. The millions of sapphires and emeralds caught the light wondrously. They were shaped in a pattern of a face. Though, one had to be in the right light to see it. A horrible thought flittered through his head as he adjusted the mask. If they saw his face, he might have to kill them. He watched the two sisters as they prepared the campsite. Could he kill again? Did he have it in him anymore? It was such a long time ago.

I smiled at him, forgetting my anger. He looked very flustered about the whole thing. I looked down at my own clothes. They might as well have been covered with horse maneur. My green dress had turned a dusty brownish color and the leather bits on it looked like they were starting to tear a little at the ends. My boots weren't in that bad of shape though.
"We are pleased to meet you. I'm Daine and this is my sister Tania...or that was my sister." I added, glancing back where she had been. She was now walking away towards the old bar, probably to do some clearing out. I wondered about my other triplet, Crystal. She had been gone awhile. Perhaps Tania had given her the wrong directions as well. Crystal can take care of herself, I assured myself and turned my thoughts back to the man.
"You don't look too well. Would you like to share some of our dinner? Crystal should be returning soon with some food."

"Diane. What a lovely name! Similar to my sister's name, Daynassea. I would love some food."

Lycansea eagerly lead her to a nearby bench. It wasn't much of a bench, though. It was just some old wood that was left carelessly aside. It looked like someone tried to fix the bar up once, but had to leave quickly. He sat down gracefully. It almost seemed like he had some royal blood in him. Only royalty and nobles could be so graceful.

Oh, he thought to himself, I should probably help. They searched the bags Tania had brought. Soon a campfire was roaring, despite Lycansea's protesting, and they were eating merrily.

It didn't take long until the roar of the angry villagers reached Lycansea's ears. Panicked he ripped off his shirt and smothered the fire. Diane looked a bit surprised at his behavior. He grabbed his shirt and easily lifted Diane up. Though he was lean and sinewy, he was quite strong. He quickly sprinted to the bar. Lycansea hurled Diane unto the roof. He waited a moment to make sure the roof didn't collapse. He looked for the other sister, but it appeared that she wandered off. With catlike agility he grabbed the roof and swung himself inches from Diane. He put his masked face inches from her. His sparkling blue eyes had a calming effect. Diane didn't appear to be as angry anymore.

The villagers swarmed into the area. Lycansea and Diane ducked down cautiously.

Tania

I look around for my sis and that guy...what's his name, Lycansea. Speaking of him and looks, I thought he might like this hide I was bringing him so he could clean up, along with some herbs to ease the sunburn. But now he decided to hide from me. Well, if that's the way things are, then--What's with all the yelling? Those villlagers better not disturb our meal. Where was Daine, anyway? Maybe she's bedding down for the night.

Speaking of down, I wish I had thought to bring along a nice pillow. Well, when Crystal gets here she'll fix us up nicely I suppose. I wish I had learned more magic. I go to the campsite, and notice something on the roof. I can't really see it with my eyes open, but maybe if I try with my eyes closed, because you know some things you can see just as well with your eyes closed. Aha, it's Daine and what's his name. They must have decided to sleep on the roof. Of course, to a bird a roof is the floor, so maybe it's not so odd. It all depends on your point of view. I swing myself up. "What's going on?" I hand the hide and the herbs to Lycansea.

I lay on my stomach on the roof, wondering who was down there. I thought I recognized a couple of the voices from the village.
"Why are they chasing you?" I whispered, but before he could answer my sister was on the roof, asking in a loud tone "Whats going on guys?" I felt a little panicky. For once I wasn't angry at my sister, I was just worried about her. I grabbed her and yanked her down, but it was no use now. The men had heard her and were now yelling up to the roof for us to come down.
"stay." I say quietly to Lycansea and I grab my sister's hand and we walk to the edge of the roof. I jump down off the roof then extend my hands to Tania. When we are both down I move to the entrance and stand there in defiance. The biggest ugliest man of the party(definately the leader) confronts me. He looks amused.
"Let us go by!" he says in a rumbling voice.
"No." I say, looking very calm.
"Do you want to get hurt? It would be such a shame...You and your sister are such pretty little things."
"I'm not moving."
"Move out of the way!" he seems to be getting very angry now.

(OOC: Daine. Right... I knew that! *shifty eyes*)

Lycansea was a bit upset when Tania jumped up on the roof. So much for hiding from the villagers. He should just give up. It wouldn't be so bad marrying that ugly guy's daughter. She apparently inherited her looks from her mother. But she was a bit stupid, and he only slept with her because he pitied her. She explained that her father was a bit of a tyrant. He should have realized right then and there that no good would come from sleeping with the guy's daughter.

He watched with fascinated horror as the two sisters jumped down. They might get killed! That guy definitely looked like he wouldn't think twice about murdering them.

The wind changed direction once again. The darkened sky gave warning to a storm of some sort is brewing. Using his natural echolocation abilities, he sent out a quick click. The reflected sound came back after a few moments. There was a busy market not too far from here. A quick plan formed in his mind.
Lycansea heedlessly jumped on the nearest villager. Luckily it was a scrawny, blonde guy. Looked to be her brother. He obviously never did an once of work in his lifetime. The scrawny man cried in dismay. His screeches sounded like a young girl who had her candy taken away. Lycansea quickly detangled himself from the man and started running. He glanced back to see the sisters were right behind him. And right behind them the villagers charged in renewed fury. Lycansea was already slowing down. He was tired from all the running earlier on. He hoped the sisters had some sort of plan.

I puff along, wondering what just happened, and what we should do about it. Lycansea better not have dropped those herbs. They took me a while to find. Now we'd better find Crystal, because I don't think my theiving skills and Daine's warrior skills can take on all these crazy people. Of course, by their point of view, they may not be crazy. They may think that we're crazy. Maybe we are. Maybe Lycansea is crazy, and we're crazy for helping him. I should ask Daine. "Hey Daine!!" She does not answer me, but then again maybe she couldn't hear me. Speaking of here, here is Crystal! Just in time! Lycansea better not have dropped that thyme herb. "Hey Crystal!! Are we crazy!?"

Crystal

"Tania!! You gave me the wrong directions! I can't find the stupid bar! Hey, what are all those villagers so angry about?" I examine the shouting mob just as Tania, Daine, and some guy reach me. "Are they chasing you guys? What did you do now?? And who's this?"

Tania

"Crystal! You gotta run! I don't know why! Why do we exist?? Ask Daine, she knows what's going on."

"Yeah. I didn't do anything! I have no idea why they're chasing us. Thats Lycansea." I panted. I realized that I wasn't going to be able to tell my sisters everything that was necessary so I closed my eyes for a moment and reached out to their minds.

Tania- Ok Tania. You hafta sneak up from the back and distract them with something then I'll come from the front and attack a couple of them.

Crystal- You have to do some magic...Anything will do. Just slow them down.
I take a moment to decide whether to speak to Lycansea. It was easy with my sisters, but it was definately harder with people you have just met.
Lycansea- Can you fight? If so just help me... I toss Lycansea one of the many weapons I carry and hope for the best.
Tania-Go now Tan!

(OCC: This site won't refresh for me. Sorry, if this post is a bit late. If it is, ignore it.)

Lycansea was a bit surprised when he saw the new comer. It was obviously the other girl's sister. He suddenly wanted to see his own twin sister. He had been away for a while now. The ocean would call to him at the strangest moments.
Gah! Was it ever boring there. Now, he was getting some action. He loved it! He loved the adreline rush when he leapt on the other guy. He wished he had some sort of weapon and there wasn't so many villagers. He could kill them all. But that was the problem. He could, but he couldn't. Oh well! It wasn't as fun when they were all dead.

He laughed beautifully. He was the foul trickster once again. He ran suddenly into one of the a hotel. People looked up drunkenly at him. The rooms must have been on top while the bar was on the bottom. What is with these humans and their bars? He checked to make sure the sisters had followed him.
"Hey! Can I have this drink? Thanks!"
Lycansea grabbed a picter of water from the bartender and threw it on himself. As the sisters ran in Lycansea threw some money at bartender. Winking wolfishly, he quickly hurried the sisters upstairs.
He quickly explained to the sisters, "Okay! They are fat, lazy, and stupid! All we have to do is jump a couple of roofs and we are at the market! They will search for a couple of moments and then leave. Then we could go somewhere else..."
His clear, shining eyes watched the sisters. They didn't seem to like the plan. Well, no matter. The villagers were pouring in downstairs. He could hear the bartender and the ugly man get into a huge arguement. Good, that will buy them some more time.
"Well, out we go!" Lycansea sang as he swung open the bedroom window. He looked back briefly at the bare surroundings. Looked like a whore house. There was nothing but a stained bed on the side. He didn't want to think what it was stained with. He grabbed a clothes line and gracefully walked across to another window sill.
"Now, you try it!"

I wonder why we are fighting them. Maybe we should be fighting us. Maybe somebody could answer my quesions. Probably Daine.
Daine! Why are we fighting them? Maybe we should just escape! Maybe Lycansea did something really bad! Maybe...I trail off telepathically as I sneak into the shadows and wait till the mob passes. How should I distract them? Maybe...I take a dagger from my belt and think while the villagers catch up to where I am.

font face=Chaucer size=5]Crystal[/font]

Ok, Daine. But you don't know what you're getting into. Those villagers look particularily violent tonight.
Hmm..what kind of magic shall I do? I should first shield everyone. ~~~I hope nobody in the mob has any dispelling weapons, or else the sheilds won't do any good.
Now to wait until they get here. I jump off the road.

Might not be able to get on for a few days (Leyla either cuz shes off to camp) becuz we're destroying the window and dont wanna get crap on it.
Daine
I follow Lycansea into the whore house and into the back room. What was he doing? He started venturing out on the Clothesline and I undertood. Slowly I ventured out onto the window sill. The clothes line didn't look to sturdy...Oh the hell with it. Gracefully I climbed onto the line and pulled myself to the other windowsill.

Tania

I run quickly after my sisters, hoping I would get some answers soon. Of course, as they say, Hope is the denial of Reality. I follow them onto the clothesline, my balance of a thief a great help. On the way I grab some trousers for Lycansea, as he seemed to have dropped the hide. Speaking of dropping, I land lightly on the other rooftop, wondering where we were to go next.

(OOC: I am feeling horribly sick today. So my imagination just died.)

Lycansea was afraid for a moment they wouldn't follow him. They didn’t seem to hesitate too much. Sometimes humans can be scared of heights. Lycansea felt a mood swing into giddiness hit full throttle. He could barely contain his excitement now. Most creatures tended to hate Neocia for their frequent over-emotional ways. He tried not to be too overbearing, but it was his nature to be this way.
Lycansea skipped merrily over the assorted junk on the ground. This place looked to be a home for hobos. There were dirty rags all over the place. The walls and floors were slightly blackened from campfires put in the middle of the stone building. Some rotting food was hidden under the rags. He could smell the mold. He turned to see the sisters made it across the line. He swung his new weapon playfully at them. Though he didn’t hear their plans, he did manage to grab the dagger. They looked slightly annoyed, but not terribly so. He could easily kill all the villagers with this. But what is the fun in that? As Tania gave him new trousers, he bowed majestically. She smiled at his display, but he could tell she was getting impatient. He gestured for them to turn around while he put them on. He didn’t want them to see him naked. He tried to forget modesty with the villagers behind them, but he simply couldn’t.

He quickly ripped off the old pair and slid into the new ones. They fit so comfortably! He felt momentary regret at taking them. He will come back and buy the owner new ones, he thought to himself.
He skipped over to the window again. No one had made it up yet. The bartender and his goons were still giving them Hell. It sounded like a royal battle was going on downstairs. The police were starting to converge on the scene below. Don’t want to be caught in the crossfire.

He ushered the girls to the window across the room. This was the last building before freedom. The swarm of the market was directly below the other building. The sisters gleefully ran across to him. They were almost there! Daine almost slipped on a nasty, old bedroll. Lycansea steadied her and lifted her unto the windowsill in one smooth motion. This clothesline looked even worst than the other one. She climbed across again with more little hesitation. Crystal was next. She seemed to sense the robe’s untrustworthiness. She motioned to Tania to be careful. He watched intensely as Tania as she gracefully raced across. Now, that’s the spirit, he thought to himself. He tested it carefully. He could hear the fibers in the ropes began to slip apart. He motioned for the girls to go downstairs. If it broke, he didn’t want them to see him fall. They stayed almost to spite him. Lycansea climbed unto the windowsill and put a steady foot on the line. The rope creaked ominously. He took a deep breath. Lycansea took the line in two bounds. It snapped while he was halfway across. His arms flailed out in the air before he grabbed the rope. It swung downwards at the wooden building’s wall. He braced himself for impact. The sisters had just enough time to hear Lycansea crash through the walls below. They rushed downstairs to see if he was all right.

The moment Lycansea reaches ground I spring to action. Looking around for inspiration, my eyes rest on a tough looking empty clothes line, but it was far away and the only way to reach it would be to go along the gutter.
I take no time to think about the consequences of my actions thinking instead about our situation. Yes, I had no choice but to get the clothesline. Taking a deep breath, I step lightly onto the gutter. It creaks uncertainly, but I take another step then another till I’m there. I take a moment to gather myself together, but in the distance I begin to hear the sound of angry voices so I cut it short and start cutting the line with the extra knife I keep in my boot. The nearer the voices got, the faster I cut.
Suddenly the whole line breaks off. I congratulate myself with a grin and stick the knife between my teeth then, without a moment’s hesitation, I hurry across the gutter again. Just as I am almost to the other end I hear a particularly loud creak and the gutter begins to bend. I know it will break if I don’t do something. Looking down at my hands, I spot the rope and gingerly tie it on one of protruding beams then swing to safety.
Finally, I’m to the side I need to be on. In relief, I throw the rope down with one hand and stick the knife back into my boot with the other.
“Grab the rope! I yell. I could hear them coming. In moments they’d be upon us.

Lycansea was a bit stunned from the impact. He had made a sizeable dent in the wall, but he luckily didn't break through it completely. He cringed slightly when he heard the voice screaming at him to grab the rope. Humans had a tendency to forget how sensitive his ears were.

He pushed himself from the wall and moaned softly with pain. Great! Just great! He better not have broken any bones. Lycansea grabbed the rope and the sisters dragged him up. He was about to reprimand them for helping him when he heard gunshots ring out. The police were desperately fighting to get the two gangs under control in the whorehouse.
They had to leave now. He gathered the girls together and rushed them downstairs. The stairs moaned as if in pain in their flight downstairs. They burst out the wooden door into a very over-crowded market below. Lycansea could barely keep himself from laughing. Marching in front of them was the police and the angry villagers that had chased him. Lycansea realized how easy it would have been to kill them all. The deadliest weapon they had amongst them was a pitchfork. Though they had quite a few daggers and hatchets. The bartender was trying futilely to explain the whores. They were just "very friendly guests."

Lycansea waved cheekily at the leader of the villagers. He smiled as the ugly man tried to break free and was beaten to the ground by the police. The police weren't the friendliest sort. He figured it would be a good time to slip away while they were busy with the villagers. The girls followed him through the market. Lycansea tried to duck and weave through the market. Brightly colored cloth was the only walls for these "stores" that surrounded the twisting road. He liked these girls, which was exactly why he didn't want them to get hurt because of him. He preferred to be alone anyway. They continued to follow him. His head started to spin now. The bright colors began to form a large swirling mass. He must have gotten more hurt than he thought. The bright light of the noonday sun dimmed and finally went out.

Daine
I come running up behind Lycansea, smiling. I feel so full of adrenalline that I could run miles. I laughed out loud.
"I haven't had that much fun since who knows when!" I exclaim and look over at Lycansea. There was something wrong with him and a small look of worry crossed my face.
"You don't look to well," I say then steal a look towards Crystal "maybe you should sit down and Crystal can do something."

Crystal
I run up behind Daine, Tania trailing behind me. I hadn't seen Daine this excited for a while. I had to smile in spite of myself. She looked almost childish as she ran after Lycansea. When she finally stopped there was worry written on her face. I came up behind her to see what was wrong. Lycansea definately didn't look too well, but maybe it was just the darkness. I frowned slightly, thinking then held up four fingers.
"How many fingers am I holding up?" I ask .

Tania
We had been running for some time now through the market place following Lycansea. I was quite happy when we stopped, They were asking how many fingers Crystal had or something. Now that was a silly question. Everyone knows people have seven fingers....or was it toes?
Speaking of toes, my feet were killing me. My boots weren't in very good shape either. I head off into the marketplace to go steal some new boots. Theres a peddler there who has a large cart of various leather workings. I'm pretty sure I recognize him from somewhere. Maybe I've seen so many people like him that it is actually one person that is in many places. I decide to go find out, my curiousity wouldn't be quenched otherwise.
"'S'cuse me. Do I know you? Or maybe its do you know me. Its all very confusing you see because you could possibly be--"
The man rudely cuts me off.
"I'm sorry miss I--" he stops and a look of comprehension passes over his face.
"Hey I know you! Your that tramp whos been stealing from everyone around here! Guards!" he yells . Hmmmm..That definately didn't sound good. I grab a pair of boots and run back to where my sister are. I can hear the guards behind me, shouting to stop.
"Hey guys! I think we should get out of here!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lycansea opened his eyes and groaned softly. He lay in a soft bed with sweat stained sheets. He could just barely remember flittering dreams of killing. He was back at his underwater Kingdom. His twin sister stood by his side fighting desperately against the Dyla. They were huge creatures. Ten feet tall was the average height and they had arm muscles that were the size of Lycansea's chest. They relied mostly on strength to over-power their opponents. But the Neocia were a species built for endurance. They fought furiously to push the Dyla into the hallways from which they came. A simple lever could close the hallways then the walls would open. And the Dyla would drown in the ocean. A fitting end for enemies of the Neocia.

Those bastards! It wasn't enough that they had to kill each other Lyastá. Now, they came down to the sea to kill. He knew it was his fault. Once the Dyla King had seen his face... He wanted to conquer the Neocia people. Fighting the winged Ciri and their hybrid allies took many Dyla warriors lives. The Neocia, Dyla, and Ciri were part of the sub-species of Lyastá. The Neocia would make the perfect mates...

Lycansea nearly shook with rage as he remembered the old battles. It took him a few minutes to remember the triplets. Where was Tania, Daine, and Crystal? Lycansea slowly crawled out of bed. A kindly old woman tried to stop him. Her face was so full of wrinkles he could barely see her eyes. She had given him new clothes. He briefly wondered why until he saw a large blonde man standing in the corner. The trousers Lycansea was wearing previously had fit this man perfectly. What a horrible coincidence!
The old woman tried to coax Lycansea back to bed.

ââ,¬Å"I am so sorry! My clothes were coming offââ,¬Â¦ Hereââ,¬â,,¢s some money. No, no. I have to go.ââ,¬Â?
ââ,¬Å"No, young man. Keep your money. This region has been hit with hard timesââ,¬Â¦ It is not my place to take money from those that are less fortunate.ââ,¬Â?
ââ,¬Å"What happened?ââ,¬Â?
ââ,¬Å"I found you out in the street. My son here brought you in. Pleaseââ,¬Â¦ Stay.ââ,¬Â?
ââ,¬Å"I canââ,¬â,,¢tââ,¬Â¦ I have to find my friends.ââ,¬Â?

Lycansea smiled warmly at the woman. He put the money pouch in her hand and sprinted over to the only window. Without looking back he gracefully jumped down and landed in a huge blanket. It was a roof for one of the many stalls in the market. Lycansea wrestled himself from the blanket and fell to the ground. He lay there in pain for a moment. He thought briefly about the consequences if the blanket didnââ,¬â,,¢t hold him up. Then he went off in search of the sisters.

Daine
I turned at the sound of Tania's voice. She was clutching a new pair of boots, apparently stolen, and was running towards us with full speed. I heave a sigh.
"What have you done now?" Crystal and I say at the same time.
"Get Lycansea. We have to get out of here!" Tania said hurriedly. I looked rather surprised. For once Tania was being serious, but the last bit didn't make sense. Lycansea was right here. Wasn't he? I turned around, my eyes searching wildly, but he wasn't there.
"Wheres Lycansea?!" I ask
"Where did you put him?" Tania asks, her eyes dancing.
Crystal
While Daine and Tania are searching for Lycansea I walk towards the guards. I decided not to use my magic, but to save my energy and misdirect them. I can hear them running up the road, yelling up a storm. People were so loud around here.
"She went that way!" I say, pointing down the opposite alley. They immediately turn and head down the alley, running at full speed with swords drawn. I try very hard not to laugh.

Tania
This was all very silly. Daine seemed to have lost Lycansea and now she was questioning me about what happened to him.
"Are you sure you didn't see where he went?" she asked again and again. It was quite obvious that I had no idea. Speaking of ideas I had one.
"Hey, maybe hes back in the marketplace. Maybe his boots gave out as well." I point out, but no one seems to be listening. They are all to busy searching the alley in all the obvious places. Honestly, if your going to find someone you have to know where to look, but if you know where to look then wouldn't he already have been found? Apparently my sister knew all the wrong places, but I was pretty sure I knew the right places so I slink off back into the marketplace. Many of the guards weren't there. They are probably off chasing me I think proudly, but nevertheless I stay in the shadows. Speaking of staying I hope that my bag I left at the old bar hadn't been stolen. It took me awhile to collect(*cough* steal) all the things in that bag.

(OOC: Sorry, I didn't respond sooner. I honestly don't know where to go with this. I am thinking about posting in other threads to get a better feel for this place. But I need my character and I don't want to break the storyline.)

Lycansea searched desperately for the sisters. Perhaps if he waited at the old bar where they met, he might see them again. But that might be a very long wait. He questioned some store owners, but none of them saw the triplets. What if they left the city? If he left this village and they were still here and in trouble...

While Lycansea was deep in thought, a tall, muscular merchant ran by with a sword. He had some police and other merchants chasing after him. What now?!
"Did you see a girl run by with a pair of boots?"
"No... But I would like to find her. She...uh... Stole some clothes from me!"
He smiled to himself as he ran with the swarm of humans. They seemed a bit upset at his mask. Well, no matter. As long as he could find the sisters first. The swarm quickly hit a junction in the road.
"Hey! You go that way and I'll go this way."
Lycansea sprinted off to the right. He glanced to see the others running down the opposite direction. They were glad to be rid of him.

Lycansa ran back to the old bar one more time. He kept praying they would be here and not being throttled by the merchants. Some figures moved within the shadows. Lycansea slowly drew his long dagger. It would be enough to scare away some young would-be thieves.

Lycansea was more than a little disappointed to see that the figures were nothing more than a couple of young boys. A matronly voice yelled for their return. The boys left searching the packs and ran off through the alleyway. Lycansea sighed softly. There was nothing he could do, but continue searching. They will come back here eventually.

(OOC: Basically what I just said in the title. Once others come I will come back. When I do come back the hunters would be waiting there. Okay?)

   Muah! I finally arrived!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The roar of angry villagers and the sound of many boots pounding against the pavement caught Keina's attention--which had previously been dedicated solely to the voluptuous, blessedly well, ah, endowed serving wench on the other side of the tavern. And that was saying something. After all, her bodice was rather tight, strategically tight, so that her pale, plump bosom--

Oh, wait, the villagers. Right.

Peeling his gray eyes away from the pretty wench for a moment, he cast his gaze out the window and watched the crowd rush by, brushing his chin-length brown and blonde bangs from his face to better see. Yep. They were pissed. And excited. Definitely a mob in action.

Huh. Wonder who's getting the noose this time...? Keina pondered absently and, out of sheer, morbid curiosity, rose to exit the tavern and get a better look. Before he left, though, he made a point to stop and slip the serving wench a few extra coins. "Thank you." He was amazed at his self-control. It had been very tempting to add, "for the pleasant view".

Walking out into the alley, he stood by the wall so as not to get trampeled as the last straggling villagers rushed by. Then, once the street was fairly clear, he casually tagged along behind, his worn boots thumping softly on the ground and loose ponytail swaying slightly behind him.

Ah...he knew he really shouldn't be wasting his time being a snoop. For that matter, he shouldn't be wasting his time succumbing to his lecherous ways. He had a job to do, after all, and he was being paid to do it! But he couldn't help it...he had to know what was going on...

Better not be someone I know. That'd be a shame.

This was starting to get ridiculous. Tania, Crystal, and I had been searching for Lycansea for a half an hour and the sun was starting to go down. Personally I wasn't going to stay up all night searching the shadows. I turn towards Crystal. Maybe she would understand.
Hey Crystal. I think we should give it a rest for awhile. We can find a nice Inn and....Hey wheres Tania?
I thought she was with you. Crystal says with a frown, but now I was more then frowning. I felt like yelling. All day my patience with her had been tested and it was starting to mount up.
We'd better find her before she steals something else. I say and start walking towards the plaza with Crystal.
Tania
So far my luck had been good and I hadn't run into those raging villagers, but as I slipped by an inn I heard someone shouting about an evil bootnapper. They could at least learn my real name...People these days were so ignorant.
I decide its time to leave. The yelling was getting louder and people were starting to come out of the inn to see what was happening. Anytime now they'd see me here. So I pull a cloak over my head and duck into the alley behind the inn.
Once I am inside, I breathe a sigh of relief. No one would likely come here. The place smelled like sewage or something equally nasty. I scrunched up my nose and scan the alley for a place to exit. If I stayed here to long I knew that my nose would never work again.

Lycansea stumbled back to the old bar. Smoke fumes from his clothes were making him nauseous. He really shouldn't have gone with that elf to go drinking. What kind of man was he? Leaving these girls...

He absentmindly searched for the girls' packs. A stream of curses burst from his lips. There was nothing here. Those girls really did leave him. There was no reason for them to abandon him. He wasn't as "annoying" to them as he usually was. Fine... I will just go back to the bar! Even being groped by 40 year old males was preferrable to being ditched by little brats. He vainly brushed back his fine blue hair from his stunning face. He will have to get his mask repaired. The great, oranate mask looked so pathetic now. Stupid elf!

His ears picked up a sound. A visitor?

OOC: XD I thought we'd been abandoned, too! WHOO! Welcome back!

IC:

A man Keina hadn't before noticed brushed by him quickly, stumbling into a building just ahead of him, and Keina's attention instantly turned from the mob to the man. The guy seemed in hurry, and from the curses resounding from the building, seemed to be frantically searching for something. Waitaminute...that was just a bit suspicious. And Keina made a point of being intuned with suspicious occurances. After all, it came with his job and lifestyle.

What if that guy was the one they were after?

If that were the case...hmm. He imagined he could earn a pretty penny turning him in. A little side-job and extra money would be a nice, extra bonus...

If that were the case, that is. Which Keina was about to find out.

He casually walked the rest of the way to the building at an easy pace--mobs were unpredictable, and if he acted like he was in a hurry, there was a tendency for suspicion--and, once there, leaned against the doorframe just as nonchalantly. "Havin' trouble?"

Lycansea nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard a voice behind him. He was so furious at the thought of those girls abandoning him, he had stopped paying attention for intruders. This wasn't a rare thing for him to do, though he could hear an intruder from a mile away. (Give or take a couple of hundred feet.)

"Don't sneak up on someone like that? What if I was armed and paranoid? I might have shot you in the foot!" Lycansea paused a moment. He appeared quite outlandisih with the look of mock indignation on his face.

"No trouble at all!" Lycansea kicked the ground in a nonchantlant manner. The creature didn't appear too taken aback by Lycansea's beauty, which was always a good thing. "You haven't see any triplets lately, have you?"

Voices started to rush into Lycansea's ears. Great, the villagers are back...

   Triplets?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm...thus far, the guy hadn't given him any further reason to suspect him. And, aside from his initial alarm--which was natural, considering Keina had snuck up on him--he seemed nonchalant. Unconcerned, if irritated by something.

Definitely not the attitude of a hunted man.

Not in most cases, at least.

Aside from blinking in surprise as he finally got a good view of the man's face, which certainly wasn't what he expected, Keina appeared equally unconcerned, even as the sound of the villagers returning reached his ears. Glancing briefly over his shoulder, he quickly moved further into the building and took a seat on a table near the man. Mobs were dangerous, and even though he wasn't known in this village, he didn't wanna take any chances of being swept up by the mob action.

"Hmm? Triplets? Nope, can't say I have. Huh...crazy townspeople you've got here. What's worked them up into such a frenzy, you know? I just got here, and this is what greeted me..."

 Crystal-
I watch Daine. She was looking particularly ticked off and was walking fast enough to be running. I try to keep up with her.
Where do you think she went? I ask, but she glowers over at me and continues walking. Anyone else would've thought she was being rude, but I knew she was just stopping herself from saying something that would be a little far beyond rude. We were approaching the plaza now. Daine and I stopped and looked around for signs of Tania. I saw nothing, but Daine suddenly gave me a sharp look and started walking towards one of the streets. I followed. She was heading towards some sort of side street at the back of the inn. As we approached a terrible smell rose up. If Tania was hiding here it was good thinking. No one in there right mind would ever come here.

Daine-

I peered into the shadows around the street. Something was telling me Tania was here. It was our triplet sense most likely. We approached what looked like a dead end. Dammit. I had almost been sure that...A movement behind one of the large piles of garbage caught my eye. I swiveled around. Crystal immediately ducked behind one of the crates. That had always been our defense stragedy.

Straining my ears I heard something like 'No not at all' Immediately Crystal and I recognized the voice. Anyone who talked to themselves had to be Tania. Crystal immediately left from her hiding place and bounded towards Tania.
Its us Tan! she yelled. I remained where I was. I was still mad at her for running off.

Tania-

Oh great they were back. Now we'd never find Lycansea. Crystal had run forward all happy and hugged her. If there had been reason for hugging I might';ve not have minded but there wasn't and I was busy.
Come on Crystal. We have to find Lycansea. Honestly you two get so easily distracted. Crystal wasn't listening though. As usual. I still hadn't gotten answers about all those things I'd asked about earlier.
Daine. Can you tell Crystal that I say we should go. Daine gave me an annoyed look and turned to Crystal.
Come on. We've found her. Lets go and find Lycansea. At this we all turned and headed out of the alley. Boy that place stunk. I'd have to come back later and learn what was causing that stench.

"Oh lots of things... Humans are always runnin' around screamin' for no reason. I swear it seems most of them just spend their lives in the most horrible moods! Sometimes they need to just lighten up a bit.... Gah, don't tell me you are a human? I was just talking about humans in general!"

Lycansea blushed a bit as he tried to explain his rant. He wasn't some prejudiced old fogey like his Lyasta brethren. He was better than that...

"Anyhoo, what brings you to the bad side of town?"

Great, he was probably a thief or murderer and he had been talking to him with his back turned most of the time! He had to stop being so trusting. Smelled a bit like beer though. Perhaps he knew a good bar...

OOC: Picture I did of Keina! www.deviantart.com/view/10914756/

IC:

Keina grinned in unchecked amusement at the man's little tirade, especially when it seemed to dawn on him that, yep, he was complaining about humans to a human. He canted his head to one side a little when he had finally finished. "Mhmm...no offense taken. Heh...I happen to agree, actually. I just hope I don't fall into that category; I always took pains to avoid sheep mentality."

Well, it wasn't too difficult to do just that. After all, he was a thief by profession, and just that simple fact alone set him aside from all the honest, hard-working...naive lambs.

"Bad side of town, eh? Heh, coulda fooled me. This whole town seems messed up," he quipped, then shook his head. "But, nevermind that. Ah, anyway...actually, I'm lookin' for someone. A girl." He tilted his head to the other side. Wouldn't hurt to ask. "Maybe you've seen her? Blonde hair, last seen in a green dress...? I really need to find her...I lost track of her a while back. She's my cousin. Yeah, I know, there're prob'ly a million blondes in green dresses runnin' around here...but, yanno. Can't hurt to ask." He shook his head, appearing to be genuinely concerned.

That was an outright lie, of course. He had no ties to the girl save that he had been hired to find her and drag her back to her husband. But pretending to be a relation of hers might help prevent any suspicions.

OOC: Hey, you are on DeviantArt too? Well, someone did fan art for one of my characters, Lycanseawww.deviantart.com/deviation/7471427/

I wish I could draw that well.  It is funny how that link has so effectively lured me back here.

IC:

Lycansea smiled at the human. Good, he wasn't offended by his little tirade. He had seen tons of blonde girls in green dresses, but something about the creature's casual voice gave him pause. He had met many a shifty fellow during his travels, this one had that shifty "air" to him. Of course, Lycansea immediately liked him for it. He was attracted to danger like a moth to a flame...

"You got that right!" Lycansea replied. "I would have to see her first. Humans look so incredibly alike to me. No offense. Of course, everyone looks alike to me!"

As he was talking, he couldn't help but notice the screaming growing louder. Well, perhaps this group wouldn't recognize him. I mean, the other villagers were caught... Right?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 OOC: O_O That's AMAZING! *staaaaares*

IC:

"No offense taken. Again," Keina replied with another grin, though this one was a bit less enthusiastic. Darn, he didn't know a thing. Pointing him in the direction of any blonde in a green dress would be a start, at least; Keina would be able to decipher from there whether or not it was the right girl. After all, he'd been shown an image of what she looked like, and Keina had a photographic memory.

"I see...hmm..." Where could she be? The last lead he'd gotten had been what had brought him here. He'd already scoured the better parts of the village with no luck. If she wasn't there, she had to be here. Unless she'd moved on. But, then again, this area, though bad, was perhaps the best place to hide. It was the most undesireable and unlikely...and fugitives tended to be attracted to such areas.

With a soft sigh, he stood up. "Well, if ya see anyone likeâ€"" The heightened screams cut him off and, instinctively, his hand reached for the hilt of his dagger, then relaxed and rested on the pommel. "What are they doing?" he muttered, more to himself as he watched outside. Erk. Didn't look like he was going to be going outside anytime soon. They were in a frenzy, and he didn't want to get caught in it.

Crystaly!-

Looking over at my sisters, I noticed how tired we all looked. Daine kept on stumbling while she tried to walk and make sure Tania didn't run off again, my eyes were starting to droop, and Tania--well Tania was being Tania. I stopped in the middle of the street. My sisters stopped too. They looked at me in unison.
I think we should rest. All this running around is draining me. I said gently. Daine nodded solemnly, too tired to argue.
Ok! Lets go back to the bar! said Tania excitedly. Daine looked at her and raised an eyebrow. She looked like she wanted to argue, but I quickly cut her off.
Great idea Tan. Lets go. We started walking again, this time towards the bar. No one said anything as we approached.

Daine-

The first thing I noticed as I approached the bar was the sound of voices. I made a sign to the others to stop and went ahead towards the voices. I peeked out from a bush. Villagers were clustered around the place yelling there lungs out. Grimacing, I headed back towards Tania and Crystal.

I think we found Lycansea. I said.
Where?! Tania asked excitedly. I ignored her.
What are we going to do? Crystal asked, looking worried.
Whatever we can. Maybe we can lead them away from him. Crystal nodded and we set off towards the building.

We were now as close as possible and wondering what to do.
Hey Daine! I got an idea, said Crystal soundlessly, We should find out first if hes in there though, I'll try and send him a telepathic message. It might be hard cause hes so far away, but I think I can do it. I nodded.

Crystal- Crystal reached for her power, tired as she was she wasn't sure if it could reach him, but she'd have to try.
Lycansea? Are you in there? We're outside. Give us a signal if your in there.

(OOC: Sorry for my late reply. I had to study for midterms for two weeks and immediately afterwards I was so... meh. I couldn't bring myself to RP. But DeviantART is down right now, so I pretty much have nowhere else to go!  )

Lycansea was growing increasingly annoyed at this town. All these humans were constantly causing trouble for him. Chasing him all over the place. Sure, it could be fun to be chased, but he really wasn't in the playful jester mood right now. It was extremely rare when he wasn't playful, but he was dead tired.

He let his emotions get the better of him for a moment and almost seemed to squeeze the life out of his dagger. Get a hold of yourself!

He glanced over at the human to see that he tensed up for a moment at the increasing clamour outside. A voice popped into his head at that moment and nearly scared the crap out of him.

"Crystal?! Where in the heck are you?"

He looked around vainly for Crystal. It sounded like she was right beside him. He could feel an eerie sensation now. Magic, perhaps? Ugh, he hated magic. Signal... What could he use as a signal that wouldn't attract unwanted attention?

He looked around for a moment and decided on a piece of wood on the middle of the floor where the fire was supposed to be. If there was anything he hated more than magic, it was fire. Picking it gently off the ground, he crept over to the burned down door and dropped the piece outside so it looked like a piece of wood just fell from the door.

Hopefully they will figure out that he was giving them a signal...

Keina raised an eyebrow at the man's sudden outburstâ€"which was the type of outburst you could expect from someone who had just been surprised by a friend jumping out at them.

Blinking slowly, Keina tilted his head a little, watching as he went and placed a piece of wood outside. Strange man...maybe he was one of those people that claimed they could speak telepathically or something. Personally, Keina couldn't help but view said types as a wee bit crazy; he knew that if he started hearing voices in his head after hanging around a bar too long, he'd be a little concerned...well, unless he had a good reason not to be. He knew true telepathy existed. Well, believed it, since he knew he didn't have the ability. But when it came to bar-room folk...that was a different story. Those types got wasted enough and they'd say anything.

But, then again, this man seemed sober enough. Hmm.

"Who's Crystal?" Keina asked conversationally as the man finished, once again returning to his seat up on the table.

(OOC: I get the feeling our friend isn't coming back. Well, I am not waiting for her any longer.  Though, I think I am going to start to try and back my way out of here so I can RP Lycansea at other places.)

Seemingly waking up from a trance, Lycansea looked up at his friend. "Oh, no one. Well... You wouldn't believe me if I told you."

Lycansea almost burst into a fit of laughter. Ever since he came to this town, he had been fighting or running for his life. This was one of the most exciting days of his life. Wait... There was that one time running through the battlefield. Lycansea smiled to himself as he mentally went over his past adventures. Sooner or later, he must retire from all this running. It was starting to get a bit much at his age.

"I don't suppose you can find any beer in this rubble? I love how humans always leave buildings to decay. They never take them down like some species..."

He smiled charmingly at his companion as the voices were growing louder. They were definitely coming this way now, he thought. He should just leave before it is too late...

   Separation
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
<font color=red>Neseraph couldn't sit down; there was simply too much going through his mind for him to remain static for too long. As a result, he was pacing methodically around his and Vivante's round table in the Inn's bar room. He would pace one way for several minutes, stop for a few seconds, then turn around and start pacing the other way, and this process had been going on for a couple hours now.
His mind was plagued with myriad thoughts.

--Neseraph was a tall man with thick white hair down to nearly his shoulders and eyes that were an uncomfortable shade of blue. His boots, trousers, and sleek longcoat were all black in hue, and he wore his gray tunic tucked into his pants.--

The few others that were in the Inn's dimly lit bar room paid the pacing Neseraph little attention, save for the red-headed female barkeep who was alert; one too many a bar fight broke out due those brooding types.
And Neseraph, of course, was too concerned and preoccupied with housing his thoughts to pay any attention to them, and much less drink his own ale that was sitting unappreciated on the table.
It had been several days since Bishop had died. After teleporting from the burning museum, Neseraph, Insera, and Vivante had spent a few hours roaming around Serendipity looking for a cemetary to bury him in. When they failed to find one, Insera made a quiet suggestion to bury Bishop where it all had started: In the Nomads Forest. When the travel, burial, and last respects were done and over, the aimless trio found their way back to the village of Serendipity. At least between Neseraph and Insera, a lingering and growing air of despair, apathy, and loss of purpose was settling in. What could they do? They had failed in their mission to protect Bishop Keller, and he was central to Grizrend's plan to rectify the nasty situation in the present...their time. They still hadn't told Grizrend what had happened either; he attempted to contact the two once, but his call was ignored, and so far, he hadn't tried again.
They were damned to their fate now and they knew it.

Neseraph and Insera still hadn't seen or heard from Nazune either. It was no stretch of a possibility that she was dead as well, probably found and killed by the Hellsend or even the Godsend. If it were so, that would leave them as the only two remaining: They would only have each other, and they were slowly falling apart and breaking away from one another.
And Neseraph knew it too. After Bishop's burial and the trio's subsequent return to Serendipity Village, Insera had been growing quieter, colder, and more reclusive; she was gradually spending less time with Neseraph and Vivante and more time locked away in her own room. Hell, he had been talking more with Vivante the past couple days than with Insera.
This sort of behavior was highly uncharacteristic of Insera; something had deeply affected her, and tonight, Neseraph was planning on finding out just what it was. He couldn't afford to lose Insera, and he knew that she couldn't afford to lose him.

Neseraph arrived at that part in his cycle of pacing and stopped for a moment. His eyes trailed down to his neglected mug of ale on the table, and he couldn't help but contemplate on whether or not to drink it. On one hand, getting plastered right before confronting Insera about her issue had its benefits: if she blew up on him, at least he'd wake up sometime later and think it was just a bad dream and that he fell out of his bunk. On the other hand, getting plastered right before confronting Insera about her issue had its downfalls: he'd probably waltz into the room smelling like a drunk, talking like an idiot with a bad slur, thinking like a hormone driven high-schooler, and teetering like an unsteady tower.
....
He decided that it was best to go into that room with a clear head and healthy liver.
Neseraph slipped a hand into his longcoat pocket; he might be drinking before going to speak with Insera, but he'd be god-damned before he stepped in there with getting a few smokes in first.
He felt the pack of cigarettes in his pocket - his last pack, he knew. Neseraph withdrew the pack from his pocket with the matches already in his other hand.
....
Neseraph was disappointed at what he saw inside the pack: Not a single cigarette to calm his nerves. Damn.
He crumbled up the empty pack in an annoyed fashion and slipped the trash back into his pocket along with the matches, then began pacing around the table again.

The red-haired barkeep caught eye of Neseraph and his failure to procure a cigarette. She shook her head slightly as she was cleaning a mug; all the drug addicts came in at night, and they all had one thing in common.
They were hopeless. </font>

   <- Vivante
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Vivante watched Neseraph stalk around the table, occasionally taking a drink from his ale. It'd been a long time since he had something to drink, but since they got back to Serendipity after burying Bishop he and Neseraph had been in a bar every night. Every night Vivante would get one ale and slowly drink it down while watching Neseraph or the other patrons. Sometimes he would talk with Neseraph, though Vivante wasn't exactly the best conversationalist.

During their trip to the Nomads forest, Vivante braided his hair (which was, to his mild dissapointment, now white with two stripes of cyan again) to keep it from getting snagged in the foilage and now it was coiled once around his neck, the end piled in his lap. The buriza was next to the ale on the table, ever since the incident at the museum Vivante was a little edgier than usual. That long haired woman killed Bishop so easily and he couldn't think of a reason she wouldn't eventually target Neseraph and In-Sera. When that moment came he didn't want to be caught unaware...

Neseraph and In-Sera didn't seem to think that way though. In-Sera just wanted to be alone, which really seemed to bug Neseraph, causing him to pace around in bars. At least he was prepared though, he could protect them when the long haired woman came after them again. He still wanted to learn a few combat techniques from In-Sera and she needed Neseraph, they were a team.

He took another pull from his ale and watched Neseraph stop and look at his own mug, which had been ignored since it was served. Vivante would have ignored his own if Neseraph hadn't bought it for him. Neseraph wanted him to drink, if he didn't want to drink the ale he bought himself that was his business. Neseraph then pulled a paper box and some matches from his pockets, got annoyed with the paper box and shoved both back in his pockets before resuming his pacing.

Vivante felt it was an oppertune time to clean the daggers he carried. He pulled one out of his boot, then pulled a rag and a little bottle of clear liquid from a pocket in his black longcoat. He drizzled a little of the clear liquid on the rag and set to cleaning the blade.

<font color=green>Sikle gently shut his eyes at the kiss, and felt all four paws again touch the ground. What was she thinking now?
...!
Sikle blinked at her form as it suddenly dashed away from them. His calls echoed Fiora's.
"No, wait! You do not know where he is! It is dark out!! Liannen!!!"

Then, with an aggravated sigh, he dashed off after her, to guide her path.
"Watch my rabbit Fiora!" He called back to her as he too disappeared into the forest.

With the speed of both cat and dragon, and with the senses of each as well, Sikle found and caught up to Liannen.
Follow me...
He changed direction slightly and bolted through the underbrush, keeping a few paces ahead of Liannen to lead her to Serke's stationary form.

Coming upon him, Sikle came to a silent stop and sat, letting his tail curl about his paws softly. There he was....and now what was to happen??

Serke lay where he had when his companion had left. His free hand cushioned his head as he stared up into the sky. In his other hand, the necklace lay clutched and embedded, no longer bleeding. A long cloak again covered his form, though his face and hands were free from it's shelter. His emerald hair was a bit longer, hanging more freely on his forehead.
His eyes were as vibrant and deep as ever, and the diamond shaped emerald still held it's characteristic crack... </font>

--

Fiora glanced at the immobile, very dead rabbit. I doubt it's going anywhere! she called after him. She shook her head in amusement and went over to the door, curling up on the step to wait. She knew that Sikle would take good care of Liannen. Besides, no matter how much the Flitten had changed in the past year, she still hated racing through forests.

Liannen changed her path when Sikle did, secretly relieved that she now had a guide. She hadn't considered the fact that she didn't know where Serke was when she had started running. She had just wanted to see him again...

She almost tripped over the cat when he stopped. Already out of breath from running, taking in air suddenly became even more difficult when she spotted Serke.

She let the flame in her palm die away, and nervously ran her hands through her now-short hair, making it stick out more than ever.

There he was...the person she had longed to see for so long, right in front of her.

She took a tentative step out of the shadows, then another. What would he do when he saw her? She would die if he rejected her again...

--

<font color=green>At first, one could not be sure if he even knew of their presence. But it was soon confirmed.
Serke's face turned into a gentle grimace, and his hand convulsed around the necklace, digging it in further and reopening the wound.
It began to bleed thickly yet again.

Sikle shifted uneasily, and glanced up at Liannen. He could not anticipate what might happen...

Serke sat up suddenly, and was just as soon on his feet. His gaze immediately locked onto Liannen's face, seeking out her own eyes and holding them. He struggled to keep everything under control, for his breath threatened to come in gasps, his heart to thump erratically, and his emotions to burst forth into the open.
But key to his character, he managed to subdue it all.

And all he could do was stare at her form, changed from before.
"Your stone has grown dull..." He stated suddenly.
Sikle groaned and shook his head.
"A nice hello would have done better!! Ugh, you are hopeless Serke..." He lamented, and Serke shot him a sharp glance. </font>

--

Liannen gasped when he caught her gaze. She found once again that she couldn't look away, even if she wanted to. Which she didn't.

He broke the spell when he broke eye contact, taking in her appearance. She did the same with him, frowning at the object lodged in his bleeding hand. So that at least hadn't changed.

Her frown deepened at his opening statement. His blunt cluelessness hadn't changed either.

Well, what had she expected?

"Yes, Serke, it has," she replied slowly, irritation evident in her voice. "And do you know why that happened?" She was suddenly very angry. She took a step towards him, face flushed. "It happened because the three people I cared about most abandoned me. It happened because I was left all alone, feeling as if no one cared for me, as if I didn't mean anything to anybody." She took another step. "I've already forgiven two of those three people. But I'm finding it very hard to forgive the third person, mostly because he is not showing any remorse for what he did!"

Her last words were a shout. It was suddenly all too much. Fiora's return on top of Serke and Sikle's, and Serke's cold detachment from it all on top of that. Her rage melted away, to be replaced by tears.

A sob broke from her throat, the first one in who knew how long, and she sank to her knees.
She was suddenly very cold. She hadn't noticed the temperature while she was running, but now she was shaking with it. She tried to make the shivering and the tears stop, but that only made them worse.
Curse her lack of control!

<font color=green>Sikle was mumbling to himself as he stood, re-arranging his disgruntled wings against his back. Next time he would remember to land as a cat should, and not flat on his back.

His black head snapped up at the tentative voice, his pupils now widening considerably. Oh good lords above, it was Fiora! Not five feet from him, Fiora!!
Without warning Sikle all but tackled her, carefully restraining the excitement, disbelief, and relief that rose to threatening levels within his heart so as not to hurt her.

As was his custom, Sikle rubbed his head against hers gently, purring loudly.
Fiora! You are here, right here!
He shouted, voice filled with unusual glee.
And Liannen is just inside! I cannot believe I found the both of you! I might just faint with relief and pure happiness!!

This was too amazing...HE HAD FOUND THEM! </font>

--

Fiora gave a small yowl of surprise when he tackled her, but then relaxed after a moment and returned his head rub. Yes, Sikle, she replied with a touch of amusement at his enthusiasm, we're both here. At least, she added with a frown, mostly here.

Liannen listened to their telepathic exchange, holding her breath while she anxiously waited to hear a third voice. After a while, she couldn't stand the tension anymore and rose from where she was sitting. Brushing past Embany, who was still standing at the door, she stepped outside.

When she came to the corner of the cabin, she halted. What if he wasn't there? She felt suddenly sick with nerves. Or, even worse, what if he was? How could she ever face him again?

She forced herself to walk around the corner. She absently noted the two felines, but her eyes were busy searching for a third figure.

He wasn't there....

A wave of disappointment crashed over her, so hard that it hurt.

He wasn't there...

--

<font color=green>Sikle sighed softly, and, having gotten most of his affection out, finally stepped back from her.
Yes...I know what you mean...
He glanced towards the forest from whence he had come. Serke was back there still...ignorant to his discovery. But...would it make things better? Or...would it only make everything worse?
Should Serke know???
The thought haunted his mind.

Sikle staggered with the crushing wave of dissapointment. His gaze flitted to Liannen then.
Gently, he loped over, leapt up to her shoulder with the aid of his wings, and gently rubbed his head under Liannen's chin.
He is in the forest...
Sikle stated softly, knowing she would understand whom he spoke of. </font>

--

Liannen absently stroked the dragon-cat, fighting with all the new emotions that had sprung up at his soft pronouncement. Hope, excitement...dread. "Thanks, Sikle." She kissed his head before gently setting him back down.

It was starting to get cold outside, but she didn't want to waste time getting her cloak from the cabin. Her mind racing, she set off at a run, magically calling a ball of yellow flame to her palm for light. She didn't think she could live without him for another night.

Liannen! Fiora shouted. You can't-- It's dark! You'll never find him now. Wait until morning!

Her cries went unheeded in Liannen's mind as she left the clearing. She had to find him. She had to.

<font color=green>How was it, no matter how far off he went, no matter how much ground he covered, he always came back here? This damnable village had been a new fixture to his nightmares as of late. And why?

Because he had met her here...

Sikle, the sleek ebony cat with the aspects of a dragon, sat calmly on his shoulder. His leathery wings were folded, glittering amber orbs slowly surveying the scene. It brought back so many memories, and the two companions sat and shared them silently.
She is not here Serke...
Serke winced lightly, but nodded. Of course she wasn't...
His heavy black cloak covered the whole of his form, though as his head hung slightly against a sharp gust of wind, hair of emerald green could be seen for a brief moment.

Why do I always come back here? Why, when I know there is nothing to find? He questioned himself mercilessly, and they were always 'why's. But never could he find an answer within himself, so always he turned up here yet again.
Odd...he had never really realized he had cared so much, but he obviously had. He had also had the grace to figure out just how old he was. He had been 18 when he knew her, and was now 19. His form had changed little since then, for he was still tall and strong, though never bulky.

So, silently he stood on the ridge overlooking the peaceful village, letting his mind wander but his emotions were capped tightly. </font>

--

About a day's walk from the village, in a part of the forest where the sun could barely stream through the thick leaves, was a small cottage. Next to it sat an even smaller shed, and a huge granite boulder that was bigger than both put together sat behind them, forming their back walls.

A young woman, pale and slender, appeared at the open door of the cottage. Her hair, once long and silky, was cut short so that it formed a dark blue, ruffled aura around her head. The lapis stone set in the her forehead no longer shone with the luster it once had, its teardrop shape ironically expressing an emotion that her eyes no longer could. Those eyes, such a bright sapphire color, used to sparkle with life, but now were cold and hard.

Where was that dratted Embany? The centaur was never around when she needed him.

Just like him....

At the thought, her hand unconciously went to her neck, feeling for the necklace that no longer rested there.

She felt the familiar tightening of her throat, though she knew the tears wouldn't come. She had cried her last long ago. She didn't even think she was capable of crying anymore.

Why could she never push him out of her mind for good? No matter how hard she tried, the memories kept coming back. She longed to see his eyes again, dreamed of staring into them and never looking away....

In the village, a middle-aged woman walked the streets, doing her daily shopping. There was a fine silver necklace around her throat. The dark blue stones set in the silver caught the light, mimickiing the now-silent laughter of the young girl who used to own it...

--

<font color=green>As they surveyed, though Serke looked more at the ground than the town, Sikle had spotted something. With a sharp hiss, he lept from his master's shoulder and bounded away into the heart of the village.
Serke blinked, then followed at a calm trot. A growing hope that it might be her was crushed when Sikle instead stopped and began snarling viciously at a common lady.

Serke's sharp eye caught the reason for this, and without questioning Sikle's judgment, reached out swiftly and tore the necklace from about her neck. He then turned on his heel and stormed out of the village amidst shouts that he stop. Sikle hissed at them all and followed Serke as fast as he could on ground.

Serke clenched the necklace as tight as he possibly could until his fist stung and bled. He did not release it as he moved, allowing blood to trickle onto the earth below his feet. He walked aimlessly, anger boiling hot and red within him. It crushed his emotional barrier and exploded out into the world around him, and he did not care.
But then the the thing mutated into a horrid sorrow, and Serke collapsed to his knees and ceased movement.

Sikel came up to sit by his side, gently purring to comfort. But there was no comfort. Not for him. A year ago he had hoped to gain it, but he had wrenched it from his own grasp like the idiot he was.
"I am sorry..."</font>

--

The centaur trotted around from behind the boulder, carring something small and black in his cupped hands.

"Liannen," he said, with a touch of urgency, "Get the water boiling."

The young woman quickly ran back into the cottage. Embany was a skilled healer, using both natural techniques and magic. Ever since Liannen came to live with him, she had become his assistant of sorts, helping him to heal people, animals, and any other injured living thing that wandered into their part of the forest.

As Liannen released a heating spell on the cauldron hanging in the fireplace, Embany set down the tiny black bundle of fur he had been carrying on the table. The water in the pot started boiling, and Liannen used a potholder to grab the cauldron by its handle and carry it to the table.

As Embany began his work, Liannen surveyed the...thing that lay before them. At first glance, it seemed to be no more than a blood-spattered ball of black fur. But as she looked closer, she saw it to be a kitten, with...butterfly wings??

Liannen stepped back in shock. A Flitten....That opened up so many painful memories.

Suddenly she felt faint. Air, she thought, I need air. She stumbled to the door and sat down on the steps, holding her head in her hands.

Oh, she missed Fiora so much! Worse than the longing for her old companion was the wondering, never knowing where the gray Flitten was, what she was doing, or if she was even alive.

She sat there for hours, until the sun went down and the old centaur's soft voice broke into her thoughts. "Liannen, you should see this."

She followed him back into the cottage, where a warm fire roared in the fireplace, and the little black Flitten now rested on a pile of blankets next to it. Except....

"It's not black anymore," Liannen murmured. Sure enough, the little cat's fur was now a pale tabby gray. "What happened?"

"Your friend's fur was dyed," Embany replied.

Liannen nodded, then what he had said hit her. "What do you mean 'my friend'?" She asked slowly, her eyes never leaving the cat.

The Flitten's eyes shot open. Hello, Liannen, its familiar voice echoed in her head.

--

<font color=green>Night had fallen, the stars slowly wheeling their way overhead. Serke lay where he had first knelt and stared at them, the necklace still embedded in his palm. He never once considered removing it, for it was a physical ebodiment of his internal pain.

Sikle watched his companion with surprisingly gentle eyes. A lot of Serke's guilt was his as well. If only he had not run when Serke had learned of him...then Serke would not have sought to chase him, and thereby would not have left Liannen behind.
They had both acted with stupidity, and now they both payed for it.
Seeing Serke would not move from his place all night, nor would he sleep, Sikle finally moved off to hunt.

Moving silently through the brush, the cat dragon immediately began stalking a large rabbit, nearly the same size as himself. And he was no small creature.
For every pad-footed step forward, the rabbit seemed to take two and was always just alittle too far for a good pounce. Suddenly, they were in a small clearing before a cottage, and Sikle knew he had no choice.
He bolted.
The rabbit jerked out into the clearing, huge leaps seeking to bear it away from it's pursuer. But Sikle was sleek and fast, and in a puff of dust the two crashed into the earth together. There was a split second for the rabbit to give off it's peeling cry before it was silenced forever.

Sikle sat not five feet from the door to the cabin, panting and guarding his prey as he tried to regain his breath. He had not the time to identify all the smells around him just yet, and could not know that the two so sought after by himself and Serke were just behind that door... </font>

--

Liannen's legs buckled, and Embany just barely managed to catch her before she hit the ground, unconscious. The old centaur was unfazed. scooping her up in arms that were unaffected by age, and carrying her over to her bed in the corner. "I suppose I should have warned her," he said, both to himself and to his small visitor.

Fiora jumped up, now fully healed of her wounds, and ran to the girl's side. No, she said, voice full of pain, It's my fault. I never should have left her...

Liannen moaned, moving her hand up to her face. Liannen! Fiora nosed her cheek. Slowly Liannen opened her eyes, turning her head so that she could see the Flitten.

"You came back," she whispered, hardly daring to believe it.

Yes, Fiora answered. Liannen, please don't be mad at me. I know I deserve to have you hate me for the rest of my life, and I wouldn't blame you if you did, but....please. Her telepathic voice dropped to a whisper. I need you.

Liannen sat up, swinging her legs off the bed. A small smile twisted the corner of her mouth. "I don't hate you, Fiora. In fact," her face grew sad, "I need you too, so much more than you know." She swept up the little kitten in her arms, holding her close. Usually, Fiora would have protested, but at that moment, she didn't mind at all.

--

<font color=green>Sikle finally caught his breath, and was leaning down to scoop up his prey when two excruciatingly familiar smells wafted into his sensitive nose. His head snapped up, slitted pupils narrowing sharply.
That...that couldn't be...

Sikle completely forgot about the rabbit, and moved toward the door, sniffing under and around it. Yes, the smells were there, right there! Liannen, and Fiora!
The hair on his back stood rigid with surprise and excitement, and he dashed around to the side of the cabin and onto the ledge of the first available window. It was small, but he only needed to get a glimpse to be sure.
His heart fluttered for a moment as he set eyes upon the two females for which he and Serke had suffered so much at their own hands to find.
Dear Lord, Liannen!!!
He shouted mentally before falling off the narrow window-ledge and landing with a thud. He had forgotten to land feet-first. His shout could not have reached Serke, but it would have been plainly evident to those within the cottage. </font>

--

Everyone inside the cottage jumped with surprise at the sudden shout inside their heads. Liannen and Fiora looked at each other in shock, both recognizing that voice.

Liannen bit her lip, her whole body starting to tremble. This couldn't be. That was one of the voices she had dreamed of hearing for so long...she had wanted to hear those voices so bad it hurt. But...the voice that had just sounded in her head was not the one she would have given her life to hear.

Fiora, realizing that her mistress was frozen in place, lost in her thoughts, jumped off her lap and ran to the door. Embany already had it open, his head stuck outside. The Flitten darted through it and around to the side of the cabin, where the shout had come from.

She stopped dead in her tracks at the sight of the dragon-cat. Holding her breath, she took a tentative step forward. Sikle? she breathed in disbelief.

The village was quiet and peaceful as the afternoon was coming to a close. The fallen leaves from the trees ignited the appearance of the streets, littering them with nature's fire. Though the wind was cool, it blew gently and was not quite as intimidating. Though winter would be coming soon, the fall weather was absolutely beautiful and, considering the events of the spring, Cordelia was happy with the peace all around her.

One of the elements around her that made her feel so much at ease was Dokuja who had become her white knight. She may have known it all along, but so much had blinded her from seeing him as something more than a friend--until he came through when no one would, when no one could.

Still, though the wounds of the physical fight had healed, the scars her emotions had suffered were still very much alive, though... If she tried, and could be able to place her thoughts on better things, they vanished for a while. She knew she adored Dokuja, but she did not know exactly what he thought of her. Over the past months they'd stayed at an inn and had just enjoyed being away from the utter chaos they had been in earlier.

"It's so pretty," she said gently to Dokuja, referring to all the fallen leaves. She had her arm linked with his not only for warmth but for the simple fact that she liked to be close to him.

   Beautiful...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
With the coming of fall and cooling of the weather, Dokuja was forced to layer on the clothing, already resorting to wearing thick, woolen cloth and heavy boots. Unlike most of the other villagers, his body didn't regulate heat in the same way; his serpent side made him cold blooded, and was fully dependent upon his environment to grant his body the heat it needed. Now, as the weather turned colder, he had been forced to wear winter clothes in fall in order to hold in what heat his body had gathered.

Normally, this would be the time of the year that he would spend mostly indoors, huddled contentedly around a fire in a warm, sheltered place, only coming out when he needed to. He practically hibernated! But those had also been lonely, solitary times. He had been a loner. And he hadn't known any different.

But now...now he had Cordelia. Now he no longer had to be alone, and now that he knew what company was, he had begun to realize just how miserable he had been, and could hardly believe that had been his life for so many years! And if fate hadn't intervened, if he hadn't devoted his lfie to the same mission Cordelia's family had, if they hadn't crossed each other's paths that one fateful day...nothing would have changed.

He was forever grateful for that...

And for that, he didn't mind the cold at all. Being out here with her was worth it; and being out here with her had also exposed many small wonders he had never before noticed. There was no place he'd rather be.

Hearing her comment, Dokuja couldn't help but grin. "You're prettier," he told her quietly, almost shyly.

Cordelia looked to Dokuja's eyes and saw his expression as he replied to her. He was such a sweetheart. She was lucky to have him, otherwise.. She didn't know where she'd be. How things would have played out without Dokuja was a complete mystery. Things definitely would have been different, but whether any of it would have saved Aren would be left untold. Perhaps she herself would have died?

"You're prettiest," she told him playfully with a grin. She knew he was being sweet, but he couldn't help but toss him that line back. She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and smiled at him.

"Where should we go?" She asked, looking about. For all the time they'd spent in the village, they definitely had not covered all the grounds!

   Well...you're prettiestestest!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dokuja laughed at her comment and gave her a playful nudge, then returned her kiss, brushing one of his own against her cheek. "I know," he teased back good naturedly, grinning mischievously. He had by now learned her sense of humor...and he couldn't say he didn't enjoy it. It was a fresh change from the seriousness that seemed to run rampant everywhere nowadays.

And...it was cute, anyway.

"Hmm...I dunno!" he answered. "Anywhere with you is fine, really. But...hmm...well, we could always explore, right?" Indeed, there were so many places they hadn't yet been...

Only one way to discover said places, right?

   <--Corwyn drops in...literally
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The small boy climbed the tree with as much speed as he could. His cheek was already scratched from previous falls but he wasn't about the give up. Not yet, not when he was so close! Biting his lip in concentration he moved slowly out to the end on the branch and stood up, balancing precariously on the thin limb.

"I can fwy!" he cried out before springing into the air. The little fiery wings that protruded from his back flapped helplessly in the air offering little more than a few seconds worth of flotation before their feeble flapping meant nothing to the gravity pulling him down.

With a shout the red headed boy fell from the tree right on top of the two people walking underneath. He was completely oblivious that they had been coming, and now had no way to warn them of his fall.

The comedy of the situation hit Corwyn in mid fall and he giggled as their heads grew bigger and bigger.

   Oof!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dokuja blinked as, from above, he heard a voice cry out in excitement...

Looking up in surprise was all he had time enough to do. A second later, and something had collided with his face, in turn bringing him down to the ground with a groan. Ohhh geez...that had not felt good...

For a few moments, he just laid there, dazed, unable to really think, his face and head sore. Finally, he began to move, slowly shoving at the weight that was atop him. Sure, it was a child's weight; that much even he could tell in his disoriented state, by adding that with the voice he'd heard. But a child...falling on top of your head from a good height...

That bloody well hurt.

"Ow..."

What had he been doing up there, anyway!? Trying to fly?

Cordelia heard cry and heard it was close, but as she turned her head to check behind herself and Dokuja shesaw nothing and--SMACK both Dokuja and Cordelia went down. Cordelia did not get hit as direct as Dokuja did--being shorter than him and so close, he too most of the impact for them both.

Cordelia landed half on Dokuja's legs and the rest on the chilled ground. She brought her hand to her forhead and tried to get herself levelled and grounded. She sat up and saw Dokuja. He looked alright--shook up, but alright.

She then looked over to theboy who'd hit them and was... laughing?

   <--Corwyn, mwahaha, I win!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
 WOOMPH!

He landed directly on top of the pair, completely unhurt because of his cushioned landing. If anything his small wings stung from attempting to hold up too much weight then they were able to, but that didn't deter his laughter. After all, how often did you jump off of a tree and LAND on someone!? It really was humorous!

Corwyn rolled lightly on the ground as the man pushed him off, adding to the fun of the moment. Yet, as much fun as it was, there was so much more that he had to try! Perhaps he hadn't climbed high enough onto the tree? Maybe it was wind that lifted his mother off of the ground?

Scrambling to his feet he raced back to the tree and shimmied up the trunk again. He had to keep trying. After all, his wings were bigger than before! Maybe in the last few seconds they had grown some more?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Syntyche screeched to a halt when a little winged kid fell on two sweethearts walking down the road. After a few seconds it seemed a tad funny, but now was too late to start laughing.

Actually, the general weirdness of the situation hadn't yet bled out of her system.

Come to think of it, standing and staring at two, three rather, unknown people was kind of weird too.

She put her hands in her pocket and tilted her head to the side. Before she was just meandering down the street taking in the autumn scenery. That seemed boring now, quite boring. Some little corner of her mind started nagging about whether the sweethearts were alright.

Stupid corner. Of course they weren't alright, a freaking child just fell on them. They couldn't be in any perilous harm though, maybe just a little sore and irritated. Boredom didn't seem quite so bad now...

And the corner struck again. This time wanting her to make sure they were going to be ok. Well, as long as she didn't approach them with a dumb question like 'are you alright?' they wouldn't have a reason to get ticked. Unless they were-

Syn scowled a moment, driving the thought from her head, and approached the tree. "You... need a hand up?" she asked, smiling a little and offering the sweethearts a black gloved hand.

   Ugh...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dokuja felt the laughing weight of the child who had landed on he and Cordelia leave and, rolling his eyes upwards, was able to make out the winged form of the child as he shimmied his way up a tree. A tree that was very close to he and Cordelia, and very likely the tree the boy had fallen from in the first place. Dokuja gave a start as all this registered in his mind. Doh!

"HEY! Hey you, kid, hold up! Get down from there now! Gah! NO! No, don't get down from there! Stay put! Stay right where you are a sec!" And then, with another start, he made to lurch to his feetâ€"but was held firmly in place by yet another weight on his legs. Blinking in surprise, he looked over his shoulder and saw Cordelia was there, sitting on his legs. Apparently, she'd been knocked down, as well.

"Cordy! You alrighâ€"?" he began, but stopped when he heard yet another unfamiliar voice. A feminine one.

Following the sound of the voice to its source, the first thing he saw was a black gloved hand. Raising his eyes, he met the girl's eyes, and embarrassment flushed his face as he grinned sheepishly where he was pinned. Heh...seemed they had a little audience...

But he couldn't get up until he was disentangled from Cordelia, and even if he wasn't pinned, he'd have let her take the offered hand first, out of politeness. "Go ahead, Cordy," he told her, glancing back at her with that same sheepish smile.

For the moment, at least, the kid's ascent up the tree was forgotten.

Cordelia looked over at Dokuja and smirked. "You don't like me where I'm sitting?" She asked, just playing. For some reason, she just had to say that. Half to see Dokuja's reaction and hald just to get her mind off having been fallen on!

"Thanks," she said, taking the hand offered to her to help her up.

"Better hurry up, 'kuja." Cordelia warned, glancing up to see the child in the tree.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The small redheaded boy barely glanced over his shoulder as the people he landed on called to him. Pfft, they didn't mean anything to him! It was THERE fault that they were underneath him when he jumped! THEY should have seen him! Well maybe they'd learn this time? Perhaps they'd move out of the way so he could actually fly instead of falling on something.

Jeez....

stupid grown-ups. Always got in the way.

Taking the tree branch that was higher than the last one he jumped from, he slip fearlessly out across the bow, his legs straddling the tree. This time....this time for sure.

He looked down and frowned. They were still there....wouldn't they move?

"Get outta my way!!!" He cried, bouncing up and down on the branch in a slight tantrum, "You is...you is gonna make me hit you again!"

"You're welcome," Syn replied, looking up at the boy in the tree. Going up again, damn... the kid was suicidal or something.

Then again, weren't all kids a bit suicidal. At least enough to drive their parents out of their minds. Syn breifly remembered trying to climb into the well outside her childhood home, falling inside and being pulled out by her father. Where was the person that was supposed to flip out over this kid's antics?

Syntyche shrugged her train of thought away when the kid demanded they clear the area. Getting landed on didn't appeal to her at all... Though, just sprinting off wouldn't be right. She could help this man get to his feet and maybe attempt some small talk out of the way of the tree.

"Here," she held a hand down to the man. "I'm sure you don't want to get flattened again."

He tapped impatiently on the tree trunk with his feet, bouncing the branch up and down. Why weren't they moving!? He had already warned them that he was going to jump! Were they that stupid!?

GAH!

Angrily he made his way back to the trunk and slid down again. If they wouldn't listen to him then he would have to make them move! Gods, this was ridiculous! It was like he was dealing with 3 year olds who thought they were better then him.

Sliding down the trunk, the little boy marched over to the three people and began to push roughly, or as roughly as a 10 year old can, against the man.

"You've...gots....ta...MOVE!" He grunted as he attempted to shove them out of the way. Giving up he turned to the lady who had just arrived.

"Lady? You seem to help lotsa people...couldya pwease make 'em move?"

   I feel old, suddenly.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
He was sorely raising up enough to take ahold of the girl's offered hand when, suddenly, he was being shoved and pushed roughly by a smaller form that grunted angrily and demanded that he move, and move fast. And the voice was ever so familiar...

Hissing involuntarilly with a mixture of soreness and irritation (which was, not surprisingly, induced by the achiness), he clambered to his feet with a soft groan. Ouch. His shoulders and back were sore from the impact, and he rotated them upon standing to lessen some of that tension. "Thanks," he told the woman that had helped him, before turning his yellow, serpantine eyes on the boy, slitted pupils dialated in the dappled light. Well...at least he was back down on the ground...

So, he was trying to...fly? That was about as much as Dokuja got from his little rantings while he was still trying to get his bearings straight. But, looking over his wings...Dokuja didn't know much about birds and the like, but he could tell those wings were not ready for flight. As if that wasn't obvious, since the kid had fallen of them. And it was lucky he hadâ€"for the kid, not for Dokuja and Cordelia. If he hadn't...he could have gotten hurt...

Damn, what a mood-breaker that had been!

Irritation slowly burning off as amusement took its place, he suddenly became aware of the hilarity of the situation. Which was only built upon as the kid continued to throw his little hissy fit...which, oddly, began to remind Dokuja of a baby bird hopping up and down, wings flailing, as it demanded food from its mother.

Dokuja nearly burst out laughing at the sudden mental image.

"Heh heh...there, there, I'm outta the way..." he said finally, stepping aside and smirking. "But, uh...you might wanna be careful..."

[MOVED THREAD]

<font color=red>The sky was painted with the warm colors of red, yellow, and orange as the sun was setting, and a few small clouds hovered over the earth.
A slight breeze kicked up on the outskirts of the Light Mage Village, causing a few loose leaves to rustle up and swirl about in the air.
Then a heavy bootfall crunched down on the mass of leaves, followed by another and another...
Nazune was stepping at a steady pace towards an old, abandoned, and ruined courthouse on the far outskirts of the Village. She held a steadfast straight and grim face and grasped her bladed staff tightly in her hand, as a warrior prepared for war would his sword's hilt.
She finally reached the stone steps leading down into the depression that was once the floor of the destroyed building. Inside, waiting for her amongst the decimated and crumbling walls that no longer held a roof, was the Archangel Elial.

--Nazune had long, blood-red hair that ran down to her tailbone, and her eyes were hidden behind a blindfold. All of her attire was black and included boots, leather gloves, pants with three belts on each thigh and shin area, chestwraps, and a longcoat.--
--Elial was tall with a strong build, having silvery hair that was pulled back into a ponytail and shiny, platinum-hued eyes. He was no longer clad in his battle armor, but instead in a gold colored long-sleeved shirt, silver-colored pants, and polished black shoes.--

Elial the Splendor smiled the victor's smirk. "Nazune, you have come."
She stopped, the distance of the old courtroom floor still separating them. "Vengeance has come, Elial."
He closed his eyes and lowered his head, retaining his smirk however. After a second, he extended his arms out to his sides and inclined his head up high, looking at Nazune disparagingly. "Do you still believe that what you are doing has any justification at all? Are you still unable to accept the consequences of your own actions?"
Nazune hefted her double cresecent-bladed staff up and planted one end of it forcibly into the stone floor, causing the entire foundation of the building to rumble conspicuously. "Your own tongue bleeds from the words you speak." She pointed at the Archangel with her free hand and recited with conviction, "It is you who is at fault. You have passed false judgments, and condemned an innocent soul more than once. On this day, I will bring you to Vengeance.
"While I Breathe, you are Suffocating: You lack the soul that makes you true.
"While I Move, you are Restrained: You are bound behind bars of false righteousness.
"While I See, you are Blind: You cannot even see your own actions destroying you and others.
"And while I Fly, you will Fall: This day, I will see to it."
Elial's smirk slowly dropped from his face and he lowered his arms. He spun his sword of light around in his hand once and pointed it back at Nazune.
<font color=gray>I will save you as I have saved the man Bishop Keller, Nazune. That I promise you.</font>
"I will save you as I have saved the man Bishop Keller, Nazune. That I promise you," said Elial.
Nazune's face degenerated into a battle-ready scowl of contempt and growing rage. She yanked her bladed staff from the stone and whirled it around to the offensive ready.
<font color=gray>Your twisted vision of righteousness ends on my blade, Elial the Splendor.</font>
"Your twisted vision of righteousness ends on my blade, Elial the Splendor," challenged Nazune dangerously.
The Archangel raised both of his arms into the air as his sixteen large, ethereal, ghostly wings sprouted from his back. "Then come!" he challenged back to her. "Let the great storm commence!!"
Elial bent over and crouched down for a second, then gave all his incorporeal wings an almighty thrust. The Archangel was launched high up into the sky at a breakneck speed, with all the unbridled power of a hurricane-like updraft causing a mass of debris to rocket upwards as well.
As the debris fell back to the earth and the broken sound barrier came back into balance, Nazune slowly lifted her head up to see her adversary as a tiny dot extremely high in the sky.
"You cannot escape me. I'm coming..." she said softly.
!!!!
Black, feathered wings burst out violently from Nazune's back, causing her to stumble forward some. After regaining her balance, she looked back up to the sky. Like Elial, she gave her own wings one forceful flap and soared upwards like a lightning bolt, the updraft wind nearly tearing the old building apart and almost uprooting plenty of nearby trees.
The great storm had come. </font>

"Really?" Sunni asked, watching as the girl traced her fingers along her leg, feeling as she then traced them along her face. A small shiver ran up her spine as the cool feel of frost against her skin, frost which the girl's strange abilities left in their wake. And then she shivered again as she watched in amazement as the wounds on her legs began to knit together, until before long, no cut or scrape was left behind. Only healthy, fresh skin.

"That's...that's amazing..." she murmured softly, violet eyes wide. "I...my kind can't do magic unless we have a special crystal...the crystal channels the magic within us, but without it, that magic can't be brought to the surface..." She had long since learned that there were other ways of channeling magic since coming here. She hadn't seen a single person useâ€"or needâ€"a crystal to pour forth their magic. Perhaps her kind's way was the minority?

It still amazed her, nonetheless. Magic was far more commonplace in this strange new world.

She was still staring at her healed legs when the girl spoke up, bringing Sunni back to herself. "Hm? Oh! Oh, yes, please," she said quickly, politely. Man...did she ever want more. She was starving! But common curtesy kept her from outright expressing her desire in blunter terms...and it also kept her from asking for more on her own.

Old, engrained habits died hard.

"Thank you so much for all your help...ah...but...I'm afraid I don't know your name. I'm Sunni." She offered a genuine, if sleepy and dirt-rimmed, smile, and gave a little seated bow.
