Sunrise. I have to make it to sunrise. Tears gathered in Usagi's eyes as crawled forward. Pained by the rough ground. The spiky thorns and pointy branches. Walking was a thing she was too exhausted for. A trail of blood was left behind by her cawling. And stark naked as she was, the wounds only grew brigger with each thorn that was hooked in her flesh. Or it tore a brand new one.
With a soft breath, she reached a clearing in the woods, raising her hand to the rising sun. Smiling faintly. She made it. There was nothing she achieved here. Just a goal she had set for herself in this maddened and weakened state. If she could make it to sunrise, she could make it. And she kept telling herself that.
A slow shiver pulled thriugh her body and she slumped down to the floor, drifting into unconciousness.
Blood. Puck picked up the scent easily, head jerking up and tilting to the side as he frowned in some combination of curiosity and concern, though the latter wasn't nearly as prevalent.
Jumping down from his perch in one of the higher branches of an oak, he took the form of a small wildcat and followed the scent.
The fae creature almost tripped over the injured woman, and his eyes went wide. Great spirits, how was she even still alive.
Was she alive? He bent to sniff at her face, listening carefully and nodding to himself when he heard a heartbeat, faint but there. Puck nudged at her hand.
Her eyes shot open and widened as she felt the nudge against her hand. She immediatly curled up in a fetal position, sobbing faintly. "Please.. No.more.." She sobbed.softly as she hugged her knees, shivering in fear. Eyes squinched shut. "Don't hurt me," she begged with several weak sobs.
Puck's eyes narrowed in concern and he nudged her hand again gently, then flicked his tongue out to rasp over her skin, starting to purr deep in his chest. He'd noticed humans tended to like the sound of a cat's purr.
Trying to get a better look at the girl's injuries, he nudged his head against her cheek in an attempt to get her to uncurl a little.
Usagi sobbed softly as she looked up to the rasping tongue and the purr. Her red eyes faint and lifeless. Obviously in physical and mental pain.
She held her hand out weakly for Puck, leaning back slightly. Her woundsbmore visible now. A plethora of thorns still stuck inside her skin. The other, bigger wounds didn't seem deep, infoicted purely for pain, and not to kill her. Several whiplashes on ribcage and back.
The fae creature gave a rumbling growl and nosed her shoulder. Tail swishing back and forth, he tried to push her up into a sitting position, rasping his tongue over her shoulder comfortingly.
If he could at least get her moving, maybe he could guide her to someone who could help. He wasn't a great healer, but he knew enough of herblore to make sure she'd survive long enough to get real help, at least.
Usagi softly tried to push his head away. She was too weak to sit up. The pain was crippling. While the only danger the wounds posed was becoming infected or succumbing to bloodless, they merely were flesh wounds. Even with a limited herblore knowledge, she'd live through it.
"Go on.. Kitty cat.. Don't.. B.. Bother.." She murmured weakly as her raised hand slumped back down against the floor.
Puck huffed at her and pressed his head into her hand, then slipped away to twine around her, rubbing up against her back and purring again.
He'd seen animals like this, wounded and scared and ready to give up. While it was heartbreaking enough watching a deer succumb to such a fate, he knew he couldn't leave the girl, not if he could do something to help her.
C'mon, get up, he thought, wishing he had the ability of telepathy that some of his kind possessed.
She let out a soft sob as she curled up against the touch again, curling up ever so slightly. "Please.. Don't hurt me.." She murmured faintly under her breath.
Okay, she wasn't going to move. He'd have to think of something else then. Puck purred louder and leaned up on his back paws to lick at her cheek comfortingly, then pressed her back to encourage her to lay down again.
Taking a few steps away, he gave a soft meow and nudged his head against her leg, then bounded back into the forest. Once he was out of sight, he took bird form and soared away to find a clearing he knew of that had a fair amount of dock and a few other herbs he thought would fight infection.
Only a soft shiver went down her spine at the lick. And she just underwent it, closing her eyes. Usagi's lip quivered softly, her body trembling in fear, not even registering the ither touches Puck made.
Even not the mewl or nudge on her back made her move.
Gathering the herbs he'd thought she'd need, Puck winged his way back to where he'd left the girl. He landed and paused a moment, debating, then took cat form again. She was obviously traumatized, but she'd seemed to accept the cat well enough. He didn't want to risk scaring her off.
Padding back toward her, he dropped the leaves by her head and nuzzled into her neck, trying to get her to at least perk up a bit so he could get at her wounds.
She looed downbat the cat again. She had seen this critter somewhere before. She felt a fuzzy head againdt her chin and closed her eyes, before she tipped sidewards, having slipped into unconciousness.
Well. This wasn't ideal. Sighing, Puck took his human form, looking down at the girl. "Please don't wake up," he muttered as he grabbed a handful of the leaves and started crushing them into a sort of paste, spreading them over her cuts.
She indeed didn't seem to wake up. Having fallen asleep due to sheer exhaustion. With those wounds, she had to be very tired to just dift off like that. She stirred at his touches letting out soft, scared whimpers.
"Shh, shh," Puck soothed automatically, turning her onto her side to get at the wounds on her back. not really knowing what else to do, he started to sing softly, a faerie song that was usually used to lead wanderers in the woods astray, but he managed to make it almost comforting.
Her wounds cleaned and healed to the best of his ability, Puck leaned back and let his voice drop to a hum, then a purr as he shifted to his cat shape again, curling up against her back.
It did seem to have some of the desired effect as she settled slightly. She looked so small and fragile in this state. Naked, vulnerable, wounded, frail. It was hard to imagine she was a professional killer as she sat there.
After an hour, a cold shiver woke Usagi from her shallow rest. She looked down to see her wounds tended to, arching a weak eyebrow.
The fae creature felt her stir and raised his head, chirping a questioning, "Mrrow?" He sniffed. The scent of blood had lessened some, at least.
She glanced down at the cat, before closing her eyes again. "Did you rescue me, mister kitty cat?" She inquired weakly. Not sure why qhe expected a cat to answer that.
Though cat's couldn't smirk, Puck gave her his best effort and nodded quite distinctly. Leaning forward to sniff at her, he rubbed his head against her arm, then her side as he tried to subtly check her wounds.
She arched an eyebrow. "How?" She croaked out the question weakly, raising her arm for the cat.
Puck rolled his shoulders in a feline shrug and twined around her, purring. Her skin was uncomfortably cool- the poor girl needed some clothes.
Circling her one more time, Puck turned and padded a few paces away, then looked back at her and jerked his head, indicating that she should follow him.
"You're clever, aren't'cha," Usagi murmured under her breath as she weakly pushed herself up, standing rather wobbly on her feet.
She took a deep breath and closed her eyes to regain some sort of balance, before she nodded, following the cat weakly.
Puck led her on a winding path through the trees that wound up in a small glen centered around a large Hawthorne tree. He jumped up onto a low branch and perched, waving his tail from side to side and purring at her.
His nest was near the top of the tree. If she could make the climb, he could at least help her warm up a bit.
Usagi looked up at Puck as he jumped into the tree, arching an eyebrow. "You want me to climb?" She asked, almost an amused undercurrent in her voice.
With a slow sigh, she jumped up, and pulled herself up on the branch with a groan of pain, several of her wounds starting to bleed again.
Puck's eyes narrowed in concern and he nudged his head against her, purrs turning into little grumbles of concern.
"I'm fine.." She murmured weakly, putting herself up on the rough branch. Comfortable wasn't really appicable now. Rough bark against her naked skin. But, those were the least of her concerns. All she had to do was not sit down on the tree.
"I had worse," she explained. Wich was true, but then she also still had her powers.
He huffed at her and climbed a few branches higher, then a few more, leading her to a nest made of leaves and tufts of other plants, as well as a good number of scraps of cloth he'd stolen from human dwellings.
Usagi tried to keep up, and even managed to do so. Though, pulling open several more wounds before she reached the nest. "I didn't know cats lived in trees," she murmured.
Puck shrugged again and flicked his ears at her, then started hunting around in the nest. Finding an oversized tune and what was left of a blanket, he dragged them over to her. "Mow. Mow-wow."
Usagi pulled the blanket over her shoulders with a soft shiver. "Thanks," she whispered.
The cat nodded, waiting for her to settle in a bit before he butted his head against her shoulder and started to make his way back down the tree. He was sure she was hungry.
She softly pressed her hand against Puck's head, before slumping slightly as she fell asleep. Not only hungry, but completely exhausted.
Puck was gone for just over an hour, and when he returned he carted two hares in his mouth. Clambering up into the tree, he laid the dead rabbits to the side of the nest and padded over to the girl's side, checking her wounds again before nuzzling his head under her arm so he could better hear her heartbeat.
Steadier than it had been. That was good. He huffed in satisfaction and wriggled away from her again.
Usagi stirred in her sleep, trying to push Puck away with soft and scared whimpers.
Puck huffed quietly, feeling guilty that he'd scared her. Setting up a steady purring, he pressed into side again and licked at her cheek with a sandpaper tongue, trying to soothe her.
She tried pushing him away weakly again, still letting out scared whimpers, "please.. no," she murmured in her sleep.
The cat sighed out another sharp breath and wriggled away from her, giving her some space. Hunting around the nest a bit, he found the remains of another blanket and drew it over her, then slunk away to rest a few branches below.
Maybe she'd feel better if she didn't think he'd been hanging around while she slept.
Her eyes shot open the instant she felt the blanket being pulled over her, sitting up frantically and immediatly trying to get distance between herself and Puck, letting out a painful whimper as some of her wounds opened again.
Puck gave a little growl that was half concern and half exasperation, sitting himself a few paces from her and waiting for her to calm down so he could check her wounds again.
Usagi blinked at the cat, but, she didn't seem to calm down. Panick and distrust in her eyes. Warily looking at him.
Puck lowered himself to rest his head on his paws and batting his eyes at her innocently, starting up the purring again.
Usagi still looked at him with a curious gaze. "What are you.." She murmured to herself. "Not a normal cat," she concluded.
He sat up a bit, still purring, and nodded slowly, ears pricked forward and tail draped casually over his paws.
"Then.. What are you?" She asked as she still silently backed up.
Well. It was unlikely he could scare her anymore than she already was.
With a soft sigh, Puck let himself shift to human form- well, as close to human as he could get. He crossed his legs in an attempt to offer some modesty, shuffling back to the edge of his nest.
"I believe your kind call me fae," he said, tilting his head to one side.
When she witnessed how Puck changed to his human.. Or fae form, her eyes went wide. Usagi clutched tighter to the blanket as if it was a desperate attempt to shield herself from him. She was most likely going to get hurt, tortured and raped again.
She curled up tighter in the blanket and shivered softly, pinching her eyes shut in fear.
Puck sighed, running his hand through his hair. "See, this is why I stayed as the cat," he muttered. It was obvious enough that humans had hurt her, and his fae form was close enough to be startling for her.
He leaned back against the side of his nest, legs crossed- then he realized that wasn't really hiding anything and shifted again.
"My name is Puck," he offered. "What are you called?"
She glanced at the other person warily, "Usagi," she answered at his offer. She glanced him from head to toe, before she felt her cheeks flushing before he properly readjusted himself. She huddled up tigther and looked away.
"Usagi." He tried a very small smile. "You hungry?" Puck asked with a nod toward the rabbits he'd caught.
She glanced at the rabbits, shaking her head softly. And at the most convienient moment, her stomach let out a rather loud growl, contradicting the shake of her head.
Puck sighed, shaking his head. "Well, I'm gonna cook those. If you decide you're hungry, you're welcome to eat," he said. He started to move across the nest, then hesitated. He twisted around to grab a scrappy bit of fabric and wrapped it around his waist before he stood up and moved toward his game.
Usagi didn't respond to him. She curled up on the floor and closed her eyes, still trembling slightly.
Quietly, Puck set about building a small fire- not an easy task in a treetop nest- then skinning and cleaning the rabbits.
He rather hoped the smell of cooking meat might coax the girl out a bit.
She was hungry. Just the scent of blood made her hunger even worse. Yet. She tried to steel her nerves and slowly turned her back to Puck, still trembling slightly. Biting down on her finger to draw a sliver of blood. The pain on her finger and from her wounds gave her something to focus on, rather than her empty stomach.
Using a few broad leafs for plates, Puck slid the cooked rabbit toward Usagi's back. "I'm not going to hurt you," he told the girl quietly. If he wanted to do that, he' had plenty of opportunity.
She kept her back turned towards the food defiantly. It could be poisoned for all she knew. She huffed silently at the remark he made. She had heard that before. And they turned out to be lies.
The fae creature cocked his head to the side. "You know, if I meant you harm I could have hust left you to die," he pointed out mildly.
"A living and breathing body is better to fuck than a dead one," she replied coldly. He knew there were reasons that she was still alive. And this sure as hell was the most likely one. She had ceased to believe that there was good in anyone. And always assumed the worst. And this, in her eyes was the worst.
He arched an eyebrow. Ah. So that was it then. "And what makes you think you're my type?" Puck quipped.
He pushed the rabbit a little closer, then stood and stretched. "I'll be back in an hour or so. I'd recommend you don't move, don't want those wounds opening back up." With that he turned into a large crow and soared away.
Usagi let out a soft huff. "That would indicate some kind of preference.. And I don't think rapists have much preference," she answered, venom present in her voice.
And she couldn't even move if she wanted to. So her not moving was a given.
True to his word, Puck was back within the hour. He landed in the nest and took human form again, quickly sitting and covering himself with the remains of what had once been a coat. Probably.
"Nearest town is about twelve miles east," he told her without preamble, tilting his head like the bird he'd so recently been. "If you don't want to stay here, you should at least let yourself heal a bit more before trying to make the trek."
Usagi had slipped into a deep sleep when Puck had returned, the rabbit was completely eaten. So, she didn't hear his words or even notice his arrival.
Puck sighed and rubbed the back of his neck. With a shrug, he took his cat form again and curled up on the other side of the nest. May as well get some sleep while he had the chance.
Usagi didn't wake even when Pit woke. Still asleep. Letting out several scared whimpers and murmurs. Another bad dream.
Puck considered the girl. With a sigh, he decided not to wake her. He leaped down from the nest and took hawk form, banking away toward the human town.
He really needed to get her some proper clothes.
Usagi shivered under the blanket, curling up tighter with another distressed murmur.
It took him a little over an hour, but Puck eventually returned to his nest toting two pairs of breeches and a tunic that might be a little large but was at least better than nothing.
He kept his bird shape and dropped the clothes over the girl's body, then perched on the edge of the nest and clucked at her.
Usagi's eyes opened and widened as she felt the clothes dropped on her, shooting upwards and grabbing for a knife on her hip that wasn't even there. She glanced at the bird. "I guess that's you," she murmured.
He nodded once, then shuffled around to put his back to her so she could dress with some privacy.
Usagi pulled the clothes underneath the blanket, getting dressed slowly.
Waiting patiently, Puck hopped over to the rabbit and clucked in exasperation. She really needed to eat.
Usagi arched an eyebrow at Puck, before looking at the already cold, prepared rabbit, sighing softly. "If it rids me of your insufferable bitching," she said, picking the leaf and starting to eat, keeping a close eye on Puck.
It was hard for a hawk to roll his eyes, but Puck managed. He hopped back to the edge of the nest with a few grumbles, but he was fairly pleased that she was eating at least.
And her cold gaze didn't leave him while she ate. The piece of cooked meat, even though it was cold already, tasted amazing. She couldn't recall how long of a time it was ago she properly ate.
Yet, she was still as wary as ever.
Puck cocked his head at her and clucked questioningly, then nudged the remainder of his own rabbit with his beak, pushing it toward her. She was probably still hungry.
Usagi softly rolled her eyes. She was hungry indeed. "Why a hawk," she pondered out loud, failing to resist throwing jabs at him. "You'd be better off as a chicken. You're bemothering me like one," she murmured, pulling up the remainders of his meal and starting to eat.
He rolled his eyes again, taking a human shape. "You seem to prefer the animal shapes," he answered with a shrug as he pulled a blanket over his lap.
She arched an eyebrow. "I do. Those are less likely to torture me in a shed for several days with no end," she retorted dryly.
The fae creature cocked his head at her, birdlike. "I'm not going to hurt you, lass," he said quietly. After a moment of silence, he added, "You still hungry?"
"I've heard that before," she retorted with a huff. "I'm fine."
He shrugged. "Suit yourself. Want some water then?" Dehydration was bad for humans, right?
She nodded slowly. "It'd be welcome," she answered, with the same stonecold tone.
He nodded and took bird form again, grabbing an old flask as he soared away to find a stream.
Usagi hugged her knees as he left, looking around and sighing softly. She was alive, still. Good.
Gathering water was a much quicker errand than finding food and clothes, and Puck returned within a quarter of an hour. He dropped the flask beside Usagi and took cat form as he landed.
Usagi glanced up at him as he landed, then he shifted to a cat again. "How much animals can you change into?" She inquired as she took the flask andbalmost emptied it in one go.
Puck shifted into human form again so he could answer her. "All of them. Pretty much," he said with a shrug.
"And it takes no effort at all?" She inquired, her curiousity peaked.
He smiled and nodded. "Nope. Easy as breathing."
"I see," she frowned slightly. It was a bother she had lost her powers. She couldn't even use any of her abilities she learned during her time as a shadow ranger. Everything was gone. Only her phsyical capabilities remained. And in this situation, they weren't much.
Puck leaned back against the side of his nest and let his eyes flick over her. "How do those cuts feel?"
"Painful," Usagi replied with an arched eyebrow, "how else would they feel?"
He shrugged. "Well, if they're throbbing or burning they might be infected. In which case I'd have to get you to a proper healer, which may take some doing."
"They're not infected," Usagi replied, cutting him off, before letting out a soft sigh. "I am to go on my way soon. I need weapons, do you know where I can find those?"
Again, he shrugged. "Probably back at that village where I nicked those clothes. I can show you if you like, but only once you've healed."
"I've healed plenty," Usagi replied. Then it dawned to her. She was believed death. The assassination was a ruse. And yet she survived. So she wasn't hunted by shadow rangers nomore. Then again, she still felt naked without a weapon.
"Uh huh." He gave her a skeptical look. "If you can climb down out of this tree without reopening any cuts I'll say you're healed."
She let out a soft huff. "Then I leave, whether the wounds open or not." Usagi said as she pushed herself to her feet, clambering over the edge of the nest and slowly, yet gracefully, make her way down. Leaving several smears of blood on the branches.
Puck sighed and filled his eyes. He rolled over the side of the best and dropped to the ground, taking cat form as his paws hit the ground.
Usagi jumped down.from the last branch and landed with a soft cough, spitting up some blood. Crimson streaks forming on the tunic as she was bleeding through.
She needed bandages for this.
Puck growled, glowering at her. He reached up to paw at her hip, yowling insistently and trying to get her to sit and rest.
Usagi softly pushed him back and got to her feet again. She put a hand against her stomach. A deep breath later, she slowly start to limp away.
Well. If she wanted to be stubborn, he could be too. Grumbling to himself, Puck padded silently after her, keeping a wary and concerned eye on her pace. The scent of blood reached his nose and he sneezed.
Foolish lass, he thought with a huff.
Usagi stopped in her tracks and glanced over her shoulder. "Why are you following?"
Puck stretched up onto his back legs and nudged his nose against one of the cuts on her side and huffed at her, eyes narrowed in concern.
Usagi let out a soft grunt of pain, before grabbing him by the skin at the back of his neck. It worked on normal felines. So, why wouldn't it on him? "I am quite fine, thank you," she stated coldly.
Puck yowled and squirmed in her hold. He gave her a glare and shifted to human form so her grip on his scruff was broken.
"You're not supposed to do that to adult cats," he muttered, rubbing his throat. "We're too heavy- it chokes us." He gave her another glower. "And you're not fine. You're bleeding."
"I'm.no expert," she answered with a shrug. "I killed an entire warband with a spear through my gut, this is fine in my books."
He huffed at her. "Doesn't mean you should be walking around, still."
"Last time I recall, no one was allowed to tell me when I should be walking around," Usagi replied as she went on her way again. "I need weapons, a mask and make contacts. After that, I dissappear. And we never meet again."
Puck stood up, folding his arms and scowling at her, completely heedless of his state of undress. "Fine. If you want to be stubborn, I can be too. I'm not leaving your side until I'm sure you're completely healed."
His nudity didn't seem to disturb Usagi in the slightest. "Good. Let's see how you can keep up after several days of not sleeping."
He actually laughed at that. "Lass, do you know what I am? I guarantee I can handle more than your human body."
"My human body?" A soft chuckle left Usagi. "I assure you. I'm far from having a normal human body." She glanced at Puck. "And don't call me lass."
He arched an eyebrow and smirked. "Why not? It's what you are, isn't it? Unless you're in a very convincing disguise."
"Lass sounds like the type of woman who'd willingly spread her legs for anyone," Usagi murmured. "A whore or slut even," she pondered. "It also sounds belittling."
"Lass?" His eyebrows arched higher. "It's a just a girl. A young girl, usually, but just a girl."
"I know what it means," she answered with a huff. "It just has that sound to it. And again. Belittling. I am no girl." She took a deep sigh as she trudged onwards. "I am an assassin with more kills on my name than this forest has trees," she looked at her hand momentarily before she bit on the stitches of her lip, making up a mental list of the weapons, armour and other things she needed.
Puck shrugged. "Maybe so. But I've more years to my life than you've kills to your name," the fae creature said.
His voice was soft, but somehow immensely powerful. Even the air around him seemed to tremor with it as he spoke. "I have seen this world built, lass. And while I've taken a liking to you, I will not stand for disrespect."
"You've taken a liking. How quaint." She answered, obviously unimpressed by his display of power. "I only respect those I trust. And I do not trust you."
She turned around to him and folded her arms, giving him a cold gaze. "And what are you going to do if I don't respect you? Punish me? Kill me?" She let out a soft huff. "You wouldn't be the first. Let alone the last. Nor the most original."
He shook his head. "No. I told you I will not harm you, and I do not break my word."
He smirked. "But I meant what I said. I will not leave your side until you are healed...and now I'm thinking each moment of disrespect will earn you another additional week of my company."
"Oh. I am very good at ignoring a presence." She answered with a shrug, turning around and walking off again.
Puck shrugged again. "Suit yourself. Lass." He took cat form and dropped to all fours to pad along beside her.
She rolled her shoulder and looked up to the trees. "So twelve miles, huh," she murmured to herself, before she took a running start and took several steps on a stem, before grabbing a branch and pulling herself up with a soft grunt, scaling the tree to get a look on the surrounding area.
Puck huffed, mildly impressed, then jumped up after her, taking the form of a crow as he did so he could perch on the branch beside her.
She hummed in soft acknowledgement, before sliding down several branches, making her way down the tree again. If she had a knife, this'd be so much easier.
Puck was content to follow her, but decided to push his luck a little. Still in crow form, he fluttered forward to perch in her shoulder with a satisfied cluck.
Usagi stopped in her tracks as she glanced at her shoulder. She brought her hand up and flicked her finger against Puck's head, before grabbing him and throwing him up in the air. "Don't get too familiar," she hissed softly.
The fae creature easily caught himself with his wings, cawing at her iritably, though he simply gliding along above her after that.
Usagi shrugged at his cawing and went on her way again.
Puck followed along from the air, keeping a wary eye out as she made her way through the trees.
Usagi didn't even glance up to him. She merely navigated thriugh the woods. Slowly, the sun set and Usagi looked up through the canopy. She decided to keep walking.
As night fell Puck swapped his Raven form for that of an owl. He swooped lower to keep a closer eye on the girl, a little concerned that she hadn't yet chosen to stop and rest.
Well. It seemed her body slowly started to give up. She was still weak from before. But she'd keep walking. Even though it was through sheer stubborness, she was going to keep walking. A swift glance over her shoulder, looking at Puck, only lotivated her further.
The fae creature rolled his eyes. Stubborn chit.
He had a feeling that if he tried to convince her to stop she'd only walk further.
After another solid hour, Usagi stopped in her tracks with a slow sigh. Closing.her eyes as she shivered, before she slumped to her knees, panting softly.
Puck took human form with a sigh and knelt beside her. "Stubborn chit," he muttered, brushing her hair aside so he could feel her forehead.
She felt warm. That was bad, right?
"Don't touch me," Usagi hissed weakly as she recoiled at his touch, before stumbling to her feet again.
"Alright, alright." Puck backed off and raised his hands peaceably. "I won't touch you. But you need some rest, girl."
Usagi let out a feverish sigh. "I'll rest when I have weapons," she replied with a short, yet faint huff.
He folded his arms and studied her quietly for a moment, then offered, "You know, if you're worried about protecting yourself- I can look out for you." He shrugged. "I don't need sleep, and I find myself rather invested at this point."
Usagi glanced at him briefly, before snorting. Almost sounding insulted. "Last time I trusted someone," she murmured to herself.
He stared at her for a long, silent moment.
Then he let out a sharp breath. He may not be a healer, but he knew when someone needed help. And for some reason this little girl touched a soft spot in his heart he hadn't even remembered he'd had.
"You don't have to trust me," he huffed after a while. "Tarren Puck. That's my name. Tell me not to, and I can't hurt you."
Any fae creature had to obey a named command. Normally he would never have dreamed of giving out his name willingly, but somehow he just felt the compulsion to.
"What?" That didn't make any sense to her. She had no idea about fae lore. He could always hurt her. Whether she told him to or not.
Puck sighed and sat down, crossing his legs. "I'm fae," he told her, as though that should clear everything up. "A named command...completely controls me." He tilted his head, then said with a sigh, "Try it if you don't believe me."
"Good, since I don't have time for folklore," Usagi let out a lamenting sigh, "you go over to that shrubbery there, Tarren Puck, and you go fuck yourself," she retorted as she leaned against a tree, slowly sliding down against the bark.
His spine stiffened and he glared at her.
"Please." The word sounded like it was ripped out of him. He wasn't used to actually asking for something. "Take the command back. Tell me to do something else. Please."
His hands started to shake just a little as he resisted the command. If she didn't take it back quickly, he wasn't sure how long he could hold out.
Usagi arched an eyebrow. That was a sudden shift in his attitude, perhaps there was truth to his words. "Fine. Tarren Puck. Don't fuck yourself," she said with a soft sigh. "I don't want to stop," she glanced sidewards. "Carry me, Tarren Puck, to the village," she murmured softly. "And be gentle about it.."
Puck let out a sharp sigh of relief and stood. Wordlessly, he moved toward the girl and knelt to gather her up in his arms. Holding her ac gently as an injured bird, he set off into the trees.
After a short while, a soft tinge of a red blush appeared on her cheeks because Puck was carrying her. Even though it was a command he had to obey for some kind of reason, it still was a rather warm and caring embrace. How long had it been since she felt desired? Very long.
After a while of walking, Puck murmured, "We're almost there." He glanced down at the girl. "If you can manage walking yourself to a healer, I'll shift. Maybe a cat or a bird. I don't much like interacting with humans if I can help it."
Usagi had actually fallen asleep in his arms, resting her cheek against his chest in a subconcious search for warmth.
Puck sighed and shook his head slightly. "Fine then. Human form it is," he muttered. Paying no mind to the fact that he was still naked, he slipped into the outskirts of the small village and made for the largest building. That was probably the inn, right?
Usagi murmured something in reply to the sound of his voice, clutching a bit closer to his chest as she let out a soft snore.
Tarren Puck was actually much stronger than a mortal man, so he could easily hold Usagi in one arm while he knocked at the door to the inn with the other.
"Yes, hello and welcome- oh my!"
The old man who opened the door dropped his jaw and just stared at the odd, nude man holding the obviously wounded girl. Ignoring his surprise, Puck muttered, "We need a place to stay." He shouldered past him into the inn and moved for the stairs, then the first open room he saw, calling back over his shoulder, "And call a healer."
He laid Usagi on the bed gently and sat on the floor with a sigh, legs crossed. What had he gotten himself into?
Usagi was laid down on the bed, but in her sleep, she clutched Puck's arm and murmured something inaudible under her breath.
With another sigh, Puck allowed the girl to pull him closer. He sat next to the bed, his arm gently touching hers.
"You're alright, lass," he murmured. "Shh, it's alright..."
A soft sobbing left her as she was seemingly captivated by a nightmare. Clutching around his arm. It seemed whatever had happened to her becore she met Puck was finally catching up to her.
"Shh, shh..." Not quite sure what to do, Puck reached up with his other hand to brush the hair off her face and gently stroke her cheek.
He wasn't a caretaker by nature, and though at times this girl's arrogance and disrespect grated on him, seeing her like this reminded him why he'd been drawn to her in the first place. She was alone, and she was hurting.
A knock at the door and a voice calling, "Someone asked for a healer?" drew his attention.
"Come in," he muttered, keeping his eyes fixed on the girl. "She's sleeping, try not to wake her..."
Usagi's breath hitched as some blood seeped through the clothes. Still silently sobbing in her sleep.
The healer entered the room and arched an eyebrow at Puck. Being of the female persuasion caused her to blush softly. "Put some clothes on," she murmured.
Puck gave her a very dry look. "I don't have any."
He shrugged, then pulled an extra blanket off the end of the bed and wrapped it around his waist. "This better?" He sat back down and looked at Usagi with concern. "Can you help her?"
The healzr arched an eyebrow, but shrugged softly as he put on the blanket. "I can. Help me undress her." She stated rather pointedly as she walked over to the bed.
Puck hesitated. "I'm not sure that's a good idea," he murmured. "I think she was...attacked. Violated. If she wakes up and a man is undressing her..." He shrugged. "It probably won't end well."
"It's that or her wounds won't heal properly. Besides. The warden explained you carried her in here naked," she let out a soft snort. "I wouldn't let any man I don't trust do that. Come to think of it, I wouldn't in any case." She said as she started to unbutton Usagi's tunic.
Puck sighed but didn't argue, moving forward to help. He was rather clinical as he stripped Usagi of her clothing, but even a creature like him had to admit her form was quiet lovely.
It was a shame people seemed to covet beautiful things.
Usagi was breathing shallowly and shivering as she was complztely naked now. The healer couldn't help but widen her eyes. "How is she still living," she murmured to herself as her hands hovered above Usagi's chest. Her hands starting to glow a faint green. "This is going to scar," she said, glancing at Puck.
He shrugged. To him, scaring was just a story, but he wasn't sure how the girl would feel about it. "I'll tell her," he murmured.
He simply watched for a moment, then sat on the bed with a small sigh and curled his upper body around the girl, trying to share warmth.
Usagi murmured faintly to the sudden presence of Puck's warmth, faintly shifting towards him to clutch at his chest again.
Her wounds closed slowly due to the healer, leaving a plethora of scars on her body.
Puck sighed and looked to the healer with a murmured, "Thanks. Could you ask the innkeeper to send up some food?"
The healer stood up again and nodded, cracking her knuckles, putting her hand on the doorknob. "Tell her to take care of herself," she said, before walking out.
"I will." Puck looked down at Usagi in silence for a moment. Then, with a huff, he shifted to the form of a sandy wolf and curled up against her in an attempt to offer more warmth.
She seemed to push him away slightly the instant he wasn't in his human form, whimpering slightly.
Oh heaven help him. With a sigh Puck shifted back to human form and muttered, "There, happy now?" as he laid an arm gently around the girl.
A content hum left her as she snuggled into his chest again.
Well.
That was interesting.
With a soft sigh, Puck let his eyes close. He didn't need sleep, exactly, but he wouldn't object to it.
A soft knock on the door resounded. "You asked for a meal?"
Puck raised his head sleepily. "Yeah, just bring it in."
"Sorry for intruding, sir," the warden said as he opened the door, putting the tray down. Two bowls of meat stew with several slices of bread.
The oldbman immediatly left again, without a word.
Puck just grunted at the man as he left. The food smelled good, but he didn't want to risk disturbing the girl by getting up.
Usagi's.nose crinkled in the cutest manner, followed by her stomach churning audibly. She opened her eyes and sat up, looking at her scarred and naked body, then at Puck. Before her eyes widened. "What the fuck?!" She called out in surprise as she tried to push Puck off.
Startled, Pucl became a raven and fluttered away from her, cawing irritably.
"I won't hurt you, but clopping a fucking feel is alright, huh?" She sneered, before snorting irritably. She turned around with a huff, deciding to give him the silent treatment. Yet she was interrupted by the growling of her stomach.
He sighed as he took human form. "I didn't. You wouldn't settle unless I was next to you, that's all."
"As if," she replied dyly, leaning over to grab a bowl of stew, starting to eat with her back turned to him.
He shrugged and sat in the bed. "Think what you want. The fae can't lie."
"Sucks for you guys," Usagi replied, shoving a piece of beef in her mouth, naked back still turned to him. Lying was just another thing she did on a daily basis. It saved her more than a few times and by now, it was a second nature.
She glanced over her shoulder, meeting Puck's gaze. "What're you looking at?"
Puck cocked his head to the side and answered blandly, "You. I thought you might at least put some clothes on, but apparently you were hungrier than I'd realized."
"I'm starving," she said with a mouthful of stew. She pulled the blanket over her shoulders to hide her naked back, hunching forward over the stew.
Puck shrugged and drew his legs up onto the bed to sit perched on the bed. "Then I guess it's a good thing I called for a meal," he mused.
No answer came from her. Just a very un-ladylike burp, before proceeding to eat.
Content that the girl seemed to be taking care of herself, finally, Puck flopped back on the bed with a huff and closed his eyes.
The lass was more trouble than she was worth- he was exhausted.
"Thanks," Usagi said after a short while after she finished eating. She pulled the sheets closer over her shoulders and let out a quivering sigh. Now she just needed weaponey and proper clothes.
"Mhm." Puck cracked an eye open to look at her. "Here, put these back on." He tossed the clothes he'd stolen for her back to the girl. "Oh, the healer said you're probably going to scar, by the way."
Okay, maybe not the most delicate way of putting that.
Usagi caught the clothes, dropping the blanket as she did. Not even making an attempt at hiding her body. "Just adds to the collection," ste stated as she bit down on the stitch on her nether lip. She felt very vulnerable without the needle sticking there on the inside of her mouth. Behind the stitches.
She pulled the clothes on again, sighing slowly. "You're also going to need clothes."
He arched an eyebrow and cocked his head, birdlike. "Why? If I get cold I can just take a fur-form."
"You are naked," she answered with a soft sigh.
He blinked at her. "Yes. So? I don't like clothes, they're unnatural." He crinkled his nose and for a moment seemed almost childlike.
"Don't force me to make that into a command," she replied with a snicker.
Puck glowered. "I never should have told you my name," he muttered. "I should've known you'd abuse the power."
"I only used it once," she replied, letting out a dry huff. "That's hardly abuse."
He could have pointed out what she almost ordered him to do, but decided to let the subject drop. "Fine," he huffed. "I'll get some clothes, alright?"
"Good," Usagi murmured as she laid down on the bed, closing her eyes slowly. Surpressing the blush that would appear on her cheeks.
Puck huffed and moved over a bit to give her room, taking his wolf form again as he did. With a soft whine, he nosed her hand lightly.
"What," she inquired with a soft mumble.
He licked at her fingers lightly and shoved his muzzle under her hand, shifting a little closer. One of Puck's guilty pleasures was that he found he rather enjoyed being pet when in canine form- sometimes it was entirely unconscious.
"Fine," Usagi murmured after a short while, turning around to him and sighing. "You're really forcing me out of my comfort zone here," she murmured to herself, softly caressing his head.
Puck's tongue lolled out of his mouth happily and he gave a soft yip, nuzzling a little closer to her. He twisted his head to urge her to scratch his chin, canine instinct overriding higher reasoning for a moment.
Sagi let out a soft huff, "more of a cat person," she murmured to herself, scratching his chin.
Puck's ears perked up at that and he looked at her for a moment, considering. Then he wolf melted away, replaced with large, golden leopard.
The great cat purred and cocked his head, as if to say, Better?
She arched an eyebrow. "Close enough, I guess," she murmured softly.
He chuffed a laugh and turned over to put his back to her, shoulders pressing into her hand.
He easily could have taken a more manageable feline form, but Puck was still a little wary. If something happened, he'd rather be in a shape that could fight back easily.
Usagi closed her eyes again, huffing lowly under her breath. "You're not that bad," she murmured under her breath.
Puck opened one eye. If cat's could smirk, he would have. He settled for starting up a rumbling purr and pressing back against her a little more, hoping the shared warmth might lull her some so she could get some sleep.
She let out a soft hum as she felt the rumbling purr against her chest. Her eyes closed as she softly drifted off.
The fae creature felt her breathing even out and huffed softly to himself, satisfied. Though still wary, he allowed himself to drift off, ears flicking in his sleep to catch any threatening sounds.
Usagi was fast asleep after a short while, pulling Puck closer softly. Murmuring under her.breath.
The leopard chuffed and rolled over in his sleep. He reached one paw up to pat at the air with a soft grumble, dreaming.
As the sun rose again, Usagi opened her eyes, glancing around the room warily. Reaching for the dagger on her hi-Nevermind. Her hand grasped at nothing and she let out a frustrated sigh.
Puck had twisted onto his back as he slept, tail twitching back and forth and purring quietly as he patted his paws into the air and one back leg kicked spasmodically, catching Usagi's hip once or twice.
Usagi sighed softly, getting.ontop of him and folding her arms. She was sat on his belly. "Oi, Puck." She tated coldly.
The cat jerked away with a yowl, squirming under her and glaring balefully. Claws retracted, he patted one paw against her forehead with a soft growl, trying to get her to move.
She scowled, grabbing his paw and pushing it away. "Get up, you furry piece of shit," she said with an annoyed huff.
Puck switched to human form in a breath. "I would, but you're sitting on me," he pointed out wryly.
"As if you'd get off your ass if I wasn't," she retorted almost immediatly.
"Did you try waking me a normal way?" Puck asked blandly, trying to squirm out from under her.
"Again. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't even react to it," she snerked as she rolled to his side again, sitting on the edge of the bed.
That was a no then. With a sigh, Puck sat up and stretched, his body still arching in a rather feline way.
"Do you need to eat again?" he asked, tilting his head to the side. "Humans usually do that in the morning, right?"
"I'm quite fine," she answered as she stood up straight again, stretching her arms. "Weaponry.." She murmured to herself.
"You have a one track mind," Puck noted casually.
"And you are a pervert," Usagi answered, walking over to the window. "I'm gonna go on a pickpocket spree." She stated dryly.
Puck suddenly grinned. "See, now that I can help you with."
And he could shift forms to do it, so hopefully she would get off his back about wearing clothes.
"Meet back in the evening, one to get the most wins. If one of us gets arrested, we never met." She answered with a soft smirk, glancing over her shoulder. A day to play the scoundrel. A long time. But this time, she had some competition. "What does the winner get?"
Puck's eyes glinted, suddenly intrigued. "Alright, you're on." He tilted his head to the side. "Hmm...what do you suggest?"
"Since the entire profit of this will go to buying me new weaponry, no cash reward." A soft smirk played on her face. "If you lose, I give you a named command. If I lose, I do one thing you tell me to do," the grin widened slightly. "On my word." She said, before flinging herself out of the window.
"Deal." Puck took the form of a large magpie and soared out the window after her, circling her head twice before banking east and flying out over the town.
He located what appeared to be the market and took his time scoping the place out, marking possible targets.
Usagi was quicker and more pragmatic about it. She immediatly moved through a group of people and came out with several purses in her hands, before she dissappeared into another crowd. Gathering all the coins in one of the purses and discarding the rest.
When the sun set, Usagi made her way back to the inn, climbing in through the window.
Puck used a magpie's natural affinity for shiny objects to his advantage, plucking earrings and rings an bracelets when he couldn't manage to snatch someone's purse.
By the time sunset rolled around, he'd managed to collect a decent little stockpile. He flew back to the inn in several trips, waiting cross-legged on the bed for Usagi with his little treasures scattered around him.
Usagi glanced at him as she tumbled through the window, pulling several coinpurses from her belt and throwing some bracelets and rings on the ground. She sighed slowly and rubbed her temples. "I guess you win," she murmured. Jewelry with several gems. Some of the rings he had swiped were worth mrmore than her entire haul.
She folded her arms. "Let's get this over with."
"I do?" Puck tilted his head an arched an eyebrow. "But you have more." He jingled one of the coin purses she'd brought back- even just one or two of those must have more shiny pieces than what he'd managed to collect.
"These are just coins, yours are trinkets made of gold." She picked up a ring. "Worth more if you find the right buyer." She said, sighing slowly. "Unless you want me to order you around."
"Huh." He watched her with great interest. "So some of these sparkles are...worth more than others?" Humans were such strange creatures.
Puck shook his head then, his other eyebrow creeping up to join its twin. "I'd rather not, actually." His head tilted to the other side. "Hmm... I suppose that means I can ask something of you now."
She would've gotten away with making him believe otherwise and have her win the competition. She only now realised and sighed softly. Too late now. "They are," she admitted.
She arched an eyebrow. "You know the rules. So, be quick about it."
Puck folded his arm over his chest. "Then I want you to stay in this place another night. Rest. Stop obsessing about getting weapons or whatever it is."
"... What?" Usagi frowned. "I mean. Sure." She stammered. He was one of those caring types she couldn't even argue with. And his words were true. There was always another day and she was believed dead.
But these caring types. They always had an angle. And the most obvious one came to mind. "You just want to get in my pants, huh?" She murmured, more to herself than to Puck.
The fae creature arched an eyebrow at her. "I really don't," he noted blandly. "Look, I'm sure you're very pretty- but you're a child to me. I have no sexual interest in you."
Well- not strictly true, he wasn't blind, and he had to admit she had a nice form. But she was human, and far too young for him.
"A child?" Her eyebrow arched. "Well, fuck you too, I guess." She said, feeling rather insulted by the notion of her being a mere child. She didn't really care whether he had such sexual interest, as he put it, in her. It was being compared to a child that really got to her.
Puck blinked at her, nonplussed. "Are you mad about that?" he asked incredulously. "Really? Considering the state I found you in, I'd think you'd be rather relieved."
"A mere child?" She asked, ignoring his questions. "I couldn't give a rat's arse about your sexual interests. But a child?!"
"Well, how old are you?" Puck asked. "I said a child to me. I'm thousands of years old, lass- most people are children compared to me."
"Good question," Usagi answered. "I never knew my age or when I was born." She stated with a soft shrug. "And besides, even to you, I'm not a child. You're just incredibly old."
He shrugged again. "Two different ways of saying the same thing if you ask me. What's the big deal?" He snorted softly. "Humans are so touchy."
"You calling.me a child is the big deal," she replied with a soft snort. "Come on, get up," she said with an annoyed tone. "We need to gather this up and find a fencer tomorrow."
She glanced at him.
"The day after tomorrow." She corrected herself.
Puck nodded at her with an exaggerated, "Thank you." He cocked his head and smirked. "Does that mean I can stay in bed?"
A soft huff came from Usagi. "I don't care. Just get the jewelry out. It sucks to sleep on."
He chuckled to himself and swept their loot off the bed into a pile on the floor with a chorus of clinks and chimes. "There, happy?"
She plonked down on the bed. "Not at all. I have an overly concerned fae trying to keep my ass in a room as long as possible," she replied with a soft grupble to her voice, laying down on jer side and closing her eyes.
"Overly concerned?" He arched an eyebrow. "I believe I am concerned exactly the right amount, all things considered."
"Too much. I barely ever had anyone worrying about me," she let out a soft sigh. "And now I'm bedridden because you think I should rest." She let out a soft, bitter smirk. "I'm fine. My wounds are healed and I got new scars. So be it. I just have to make sure the right people know I'm alive."
Puck turned onto his side and propped himself up on an elbow, tilting his head to one side so his hair flopped over one eye. "And which people would those be?"
"The people who want to pay me to have others killed," she murmured, glancing over her shoulder. "You've never been introduced to the world of assassination," she smirked softly. "And I'd severly doubt you want to."
Puck frowned. "Why bother telling them?" he asked after a moment. "If they think you're dead- this could be a chance to do something different with your life, don't you think?"
Usagi arched an eyebrow, standing up again. She sighed slowly as she removed her tunic, standing naked infront of Puck. "You think I can have a normal life? After all I've been through?" She prodded the stitches on the right corner of her lip. "Looking like this? All scarred and battered? I have no skills but killing and stealing."
He tilted his head the other way, eyes flicking up and down her form rather unabashedly. He may have claimed she was a child to him, but...well, he wasn't human, but he was male. And she certainly didn't look as young as he claimed.
"You could learn," he pointed out with a quirked eyebrow. "And appearances aren't everything." He pushed himself into a seated position. "Haven't you ever wanted to do anything else?"
Usagi arched an eyebrow and got dressed again. "No," she answered simply, without even giving it much tought. "I killed a man first when I was eight years old. It's what I raised to do and it's what I'll die doing," she added a smirk. "Besides, there's no feeling like taking a life," her eyes glinted wickedly as she raised her arm and pulled down her sleeve, revealing a plethora of tally marks on her forearm. "At first, I carved one for each kill. Then I ran out of space," she looked down on the arm. "Now each represents at least ten. The ones with a small cross are worth fifty," she murmured.
And at least six of the tallies had a small cross on them.
Without thinking, Puck reached out and circled his fingers around her wrist. "Killing leaves a mark on the soul," he said quietly, meeting her eyes. "Believe me, girl. It may feel a thrill now, but this will kill you as sure a a blade through the heart."
His eyes seemed to darken slightly, a bit of that air-shivering power creeping into his voice.
A soft, almost amused huff left her. "My soul?" She glanced to the window. "That part of me is long dead already."
He tugged on her wrist lightly. "No it's not." His head tilted to the side and he gave her a lopsided smile. "You've hidden it away somewhere. It's not dead."
Usagi shook her head. "You don't understand," she replied. "Something stabbed me through the heart. It died back then, along with my powers." She tugged her wrist back.
Puck let her go, frowning. He resisted the urge to reach out with his powers and touch her life force to figure out what she was talking about.
"Get some sleep," he said instead with a small sigh. "I can drop the human form if that makes you more comfortable."
"I don't care either way," she answered with a shrug, lowering her sleeve again, before laying down on the bed again.
He just stared at her for a moment, then huffed and switched forms.
A sandy brown tabby cat sat blinking at Usagi, then padded forward and climbed onto her lap, purring.
"You're trying," Usagi murmured with a soft shrug, resting her head back and closing her eyes.
Puck's purring intensified and he kneaded at her stomach before curling himself up a little tighter and set about grooming himself, paying special attention to the fur on his chest.
Usagi glanced down at him with an arched eyebrow. "If you're gonna clean yourself, do it somewhere else," she snorted. "If you want to sleep in my lap, at least sleep."
The cat grumbled at her but subsided, sprawling over her lap and stomach again and letting his eyes close with a deep, thrumming purr.
"Good," she murmured silently, leaning her head back on the pillow and closing her eyes aswell.
Puck's purring picked up and he decided to push his luck a bit, creeping further up her body until he could nudge his head up under her chin.
"You're really asking to be thrown out of the window," Usagi mumured under her breath, with a sleepy tone.
If cats could smirk he would have. As it was, Puck subsided in his nuzzling and was content to simply sprawl across her chest, still purring.
The rythmic purring lulled her into a deep sleep. She slowly yawned before finally drifting off.
Puck kept up his steady purr until he felt the girl drift off, then allowed himself to slip into unconsciousness.
Usagi woke silently, briefly looking up at the ceiling, before prodding Puck's head. "Oi."
The cat raised his head with a grumbling meow and blinked at her balefully, quite clearly asking, What?
"It's morning," she said, giving him a spiteful look, "so get off, you furry bastard."
Puck smirked, his cat shape twisting and lengthening into a human. He simply laid against her for a moment, then rolled off.
"Better?"
"Get. Off." Usagi hissed as Kit was still completely naked against her before rolling off. "Much.. Better. Much better."
He arched an eyebrow at her. "You seem peeved. Is the human form so much worse than the cat?"
"Sorry, I just dislike the feeling off your dick against my leg," she said with a snort, before turning around to stare at the window. An attempt to hide the light blush that was growing on her cheeks.
Puck shrugged. "Fair enough," he said, sitting up with a yawn and a stretch. With a curious tilt of his head, he noted her blush and asked bluntly, "Do you prefer women then?"
Usagi arched an eyebrow. "I prefer anyone as long as they're not attempting to, or already are, raping me." She replied, venom and spite clear in her voice. Aswell as a hint of fear and pain. "And so far, only men did so."
Puck watched her in quiet for a moment.
"You could order me to protect you," he said eventually. "There are charms, powers my people have. You would never be hurt like that again."
"And become a weak, sheltered pup that can't fend for herself?" She huffed. "As if," she murmured to herself, closing her eyes with a soft sigh. "It hurts me, I feel disgusted even if I think about it. Disgusted and abused. Used like a whore," she grit her teeth. "But I can't do anything about it now. Only move on, regain mt strength and kill anyone in my way."
"I'm not saying you wouldn't be able to defend yourself," Puck replied evenly. "But humans aren't meant to be on their own. You're social creatures by nature, you need a- a pack of some sort."
He shrugged. "I could be that for a while, until you find some of your own kind."
"The last person I tried to connect with broke my heart and left me to my fate," she murmured, still feeling bitter regret with how things turned out with Jynx. "I need no 'pack', I'm no social creature. After I got roken once, the pain was too much. Right now, I am an assassin. Someone who kills for money, without emotions or remorse."
He shook his head. "You're too young to be so sure of what you are," he told her easily. "Everyone has to know heartbreak to know love, Usagi."
Puck paused a moment, then shrugged and added, "I assume. The fae don't really do love."
She chuckled softly. "I was raised an assassin. And I will die one. Destiny is determined and set when you are born. And I'm forced down this lonely path. Love is a mere disease. I just have to avoid it. Since heartache is a garantueed symptom." She shrugged softly, standing up. "No one could love me anyway."
Puck snorted. "Destiny is a mortal construct designed to relieve yourself of the burden of choice." He stood and stretched his arms over his head. "You can be whatever you want."
"I can't," Usagi let out a soft, melancholic chuckle. "Even if I wanted to, I couldn't. It's all I know. All I can do. When I'm out for a target, I feel no emotions." She smirked.
"An escape of all what happened to me. No emotions or memories. Just me and the target."
"Well..." Puck turned to look at her. "You haven't had a target while I've been taking care of you. And you seem to be doing alright," he pointed out.
Usagi snickered softly. "You think I'd show my true colors?" She looked back at the window. "You know nothing."
"You seem awfully sure of yourself." The fae creature turned to her with an arched eyebrow. The air around him thrummed with a gently pulse of power, entirely unintentional on his part.
"I am thousands of years old, lass. Has it occurred to you I may have seen a thing or two?"
Usagi stood up with a soft sigh. "And you are still a man," she turned around as her tunic dropped to the ground. "You might've seen a thing or two with such incredible age," she walked over to him, hips swaying slightly with each step.
She put her chin on his shoulder and took a deep sigh. "I can lie, trick and cheat without you even noticing. A smile, tears, a sigh, shyness, anger," she pressed herself closer against him. "Even arousal. All can be played easily. And you know nothing of a human's mannerisms, which only makes it easier," another soft yet deliberate breath left her. "For all you know, everything I say and do is merely played." She chuckled softly. "I'm as likely as I am to lie as I am to speak the truth. Since I'm not Fae."
"You're right."
His tone was flat, face expressionless. "Mortals can lie, and cheat, an ability my kind lack."
He turned to face her, eyes flaring. There was something positively ancient about him in that moment, all playfulness gone. When he spoke again, his voice seemed to be doubled. "I have given you my trust, Usagi Shizuka. Do not abuse it."
A soft chuckle came from her. "Tarren Puck. You might be ancient and more powerful," she sighed softly. "But you fail to intimidate me," she pressed a soft kiss on his shoulder. "These days, there's nothing that scares me."
She chuckled softly. "Then again, how can you believe me?"
Well, he hadn't really been trying to scare her exactly, just get her to back off a bit. Obviously it wasn't working.
He twisted his head to glance at his shoulder, then back to her. "What are you doing?"
"Humour me," she answered with a soft snerk. "What do you think I'm doing?" She inquired as a dangerous grin spread across her lips.
Puck just stared at her. "You don't really want this," he murmured after a moment. "You're just trying to make a point..."
"Correct," Usagi answered, stepping to press her body closer against his. "Seducing someone.. Just another tool.. Remember it, Puck. I am an assassin, I survive by lying, cheating and killing."
He snorted and leaned away from her. "I make a point not to sleep with people unless they actually want it," he muttered, turning his head away from her. "I don't care how you survive, Usagi. I'm not one of your tools."
"You aren't, seduction is." She snorthed slowly. "People are too unpredictable to be used. They're rather a means than a tool."
She backed up slightly and turned around to pick up her tunic. "I hope I made my point."
"If your point was that you are a sad, broken girl, then yes," Puck said blandly, getting to his feet. He moved to the door of the room. "I'll get you some food."
"If that is a thing I'd want to make you believe, good." She replied, letting out a soft sigh.
Yet, as soon as he left the room, she opened the window and sighed slowly. "I don't want to connect to anyone," she murmured to herself, before hopping down.
Puck wasn't an idiot. That, and by this point he could sense the girl's life-force, so he knew when she started moving away.
He sighed, leaning back against a wall. Well, if she was running off there was no point in trying to get her a meal.
Still...she knew his name. If it struck her fancy, she could do some serious damage with that information. Another sigh and he took the form of a raven, swooping out of a door and circling above the town.
Usagi glanced around warily before entering a store, staying inside for roughly half an hour, before emerging again, heading for the nearest blacksmith and entering his forge. She had costum weaponry she needed built. Nothing in the store interested her. They were too crude.
After her bussiness with the blacksmith was finished, which was several hours later, she left the forge and immediatly headed for the nearest tailor in town. Not only to order a new set of robes, but to make sure all the fittings and sheathes were where she needed them.
When she was done there, she made her way back to the inn, crawling back to her room through the window.
Puck easily tracked the girl's movements through the town, and when she returned to the inn he took human form and walked in through the front door. Once again he got some odd stares for his state of undress, but he either didn't notice or ignored them.
Gathering a tray of food from the kitchen- without asking- he made his way back up to the room.
"It's rude to leave without telling someone where you're going," he noted mildly as he pushed the door open.
"You think I care?" Usagi replied as she was in the midst of cleaning her boot.
He rolled his eyes and slid the tray onto the bed. "There. Food. Eat."
"Finally you drop the false pleasantries," she answered with a soft hum off approval, before glancing at the tray and turning around to start eating.
Puck rolled his eyes again and once more took the shape of a cat. Honestly, he was afraid if he kept a human mouth he'd end up snapping at her.
"My robes and weapons are done in two days," she said. "After those, I dissappear and we part ways. I will forget your name and you'll forget mine," she stated as she finished the tray of food. Not caring whether he was paying attention or not. "You have my word in that." She said, honestly not sure how credible he'd find it.
But despite being a trickster, cheater, liar and a murderer, she only gave her word when she knew she could keep it. And this was one of the promises she could keep.
The cat lifted his head and gave her a droll look. He hesitated a moment, then used on of his little tricks he hadn't yet revealed to her.
As you've pointed out numerous times, I have no real way to trust your word, he projected telepathically.
"You don't," she answered simply. Telepathy was a small spell that didn't faze her. "Yet, thisbis also the first time I've given you my word. Whether you believe it or not, I will be gone in two days and it'll be like we never met."
Her thoughts didn't betray the slighest either, if he was trying to read them. Yet at the same time, her thoughts were a hostile place. Filled with anger, loneliness and sadness. Regrets and sorrows. All buried beneath anger and frustration.
Puck took human form again. "I don't know if I can trust that." He was quiet for a moment, then sighed, "If you are set on leaving, before you go I would ask you to make a vow not to use my name." He fixed his eyes on her. "There's a...spell. A contract. It could literally erase my name from your mind. It's not easy though."
But it was just about the only thing he was comfortable with at this point.
Usagi arched an eyebrow. "Then you should notb have told me your name," she answered. Trust or not, he gave away a weakness. His fault.
"Nobody messes with my thoughts," she replied with a soft hiss as she stood up, body language changing to a rather hostile one.
He stared at her evenly. "Then I'm afraid you're just going to have to get used to having me around," Puck said mildly.
"If you interfere with my targets, I'll kill you," she answered with a casual shrug.
He shrugged in response. "Fair enough." His eyes were calm, almost calculating, planning.
"Good," she replied, sitting down again. "Then I have nothing further to discuss with you."
"Hmph." He tilted his head at her, then arched his back in a stretch and glanced to the window, judging the time.
"You should get some rest. We should get moving in the morning."
"Two days," Usagi said, holding up her hand with two fingers. "Two days and I have my weapons. And on the same day, I will recieve a contract." She said. "You can move all you want, I have my own agenda."
"Fine," he sighed, flopping onto the bed and staring at the ceiling. "What am I suppose to do for two days, huh? It's boring just staying here."
"I got a pretty good idea," she replied, snickering softly. "Find some brush and go fuck yourself," she finished with a cheeky grin.
While her unlikely companion would be bored, she had a plethora of things to do, to scout and comprehent. She needed guards to find a body. The body had to be mutilated enough or from someone very important to have thembimmediatly get to action, yet she had to mark and leave her signature aswell.
So many small details. A soft smile grew on her as the plan grew on her.
Puck arched an eyebrow. "You seem to be fond of that command," he noted wryly.
"It isn't named, be happy," she replied with a soft snicker. "And I do. It's a sentence that paints a clear picture."
"Hrmph." He shook his head at her, but found his lips twitching up slightly on one side. There were moments when the girl's biting humor was almost endearing.
The soft smile widened ever so slightly as shz kept running the details through her head. She wanted to be found, but not identified.
She wanted to be noticed again. Usagi stood up and walked to the window, glancing to the streets. "I'm headed out," she stated as she flung herself through the window.
Puck cracked one eye open to watch get go, then sighed and took bird form, following her out the window.
"Don't interfere," was what she said as she saw Puck flying overhead. More than sure he could hear her.
At that, she started walking. She needed dirt, rumours and knowledge if she was to kill anyone here. Yet the trick was not getting involved. Asking about a target to have it killed a day later makes it conspicious. But first, she needed a target.
The fae creature was more than willing to do as she said, circling above the girl as she made her way through the town. He didn't feel the need to get involved in her mortal squabbles, but he would keep an eye on her nonetheless.
"Have y'heard?" A couple Usagi passed started, she frowned softly as she glanced over her shoulder. "The captain's wife," A soft smirk played across her face. "The poor woman, torn apart by wolves."
Good. A man of high standing with moral loss, possibly seeking comfort. Oh, the sheer amount of luck to stumble across this
Now she just needed to find the man, probably found at the nearest pub. And the town was relatively small, so it only had three.
And the second was the one where she found the captain. Well, she tought it was him. Who else would sit all alone and glum like that.
Without much hesitation, she slipped in the booth infront of him. "My apologies, good ser," she started with a soft and sweet voice. "I couldn't help but notice your, uhmm, sadness," she started as she looked up at him with soft and sympathetic eyes.
Bird form wasn't really conducive to following Usagi into the pub, so Puck took the form of a tom cat and slunk in through an open window, darting between feet to curl himself under the table she had seated herself at.
Usagi prodded Puck repeatedly with her toe, trying to get him to back off.
The man gave her a bewildered look, before downing his pint. "It's my dear sarah" he started.
Usagi nodded softly. "Please, say no more," she offered as she leaned forward to put her hands on his. "What is your name, ser?" She asked with the same soft and compassionate voice.
"George Wheatly," the man replied with a soft sob, she squeezed his hand softly. "I'm Felicia," she replied with a soft smile. "I might be a stranger, but it broke my heart to see a man all alone like that."
Puck scoffed- a coughing meow- and patted at Usagi's toe in retaliation as he listened to her lie. He rolled his eyes and started twining around her legs like a stray begging for scraps.
Usagi's legs seemed quick as lightning when she used them to force Puck down. Foot against his throat. While she didn't cut his air off, she made sure he couldn't struggle too much. At the same time, it was silent, and her upper body didn't move an inch.
And so, she proceeded the conversation. With each pint the man consumed, she became a tad more daring and even flirtatious with her words. The plan was to entice and then kill this man.
Part one seemed to go exactly as planned.
Yowling quietly, Puck wrapped his front paws around her foot and sunk his claws in, not enough to make her bleed but it would definitely uncomfortable.
Oh. So he wanted to play that game. Her foot pressed softly sown against his throat. But soon, she was steadily cutting off his breath more and more.
She suddenly released her foot and stood up again, walking to the side of George. "Come, let's get you home safe," she murmured softly as she offered her shoulder for the man, pulling him up and walking out.
Glowering, Puck rolled to his feet and slipped after the two humans, keeping an appropriate distance that he could be mistaken for any random stray, if the man wasn't paying too close attention.
Havikg finally reached the front door, Usagi took a deep sigh. "Come on," she murmured softly. "You're drunk. You need some sleep."
The man nodded and fished a key from his pocket, trying to fit it in the lock. Usagi put his hand down on George's and assisted him, pushing the door open.
Puck darted forward as the door was opened, keeping himself on Usagi's heels.
She followed his directions and was led to his bedroom, where she placed him down and stood up again, sighing slowly and standing up again. "You sleep," Usagi murmured.
George nodded as he seemed to drift off slowly. "Don't leave," he murmured weakly. "I won't," she replied, "but I left the door open. I'll go close it." She said with a soft smile, before turning around and leaving.
Several minutes later. After finding a weapon and closing the front door, she stepped in again, knife raised. The captain of the guard snoring soundly.
One swift jab in the neck and her job was done.
She leaned forward to make a small incision from the right corner of his lip down, before standing up and throwing the knife down next to the bed. Now to swipe some valuables and force the door so it looked like a burglary. Make it quistionable. She left the room and closed the door, met with a child who yawned and rubbed his eye. "Who are you?" He asked sleepily.
Puck kept close to Usagi, but he didn't want to watch her kill. He scented te child before he saw him and his fur stood on end, wary.
Usagi kneeled down infront of the child with a soft smile, putting her hands on his shoulders. "I'm an angel," she replied with an almost musical chuckle, "I'm here on behalf of your mommy, she wants to see you grow up a fine man from up there." Her voice was light, yet kind and comforting. "But to grow up a fine man, you still need your sleep."
She picked up the child as she started to hum a lullaby, brining him back to his room and tucking him in.
Following, Puck jumped up onto the bed with the child and curled up beside him, putting my comfortingly.
He glanced at Usagi with shrewd, glimmering eyes as the big started to drift off.
Usagi didn't mind Puck. She turned around and walked out to the main hall again, looking around and starting to swipe odd trinkets and valuables around, opening drawers and generally making it look like someone had broken in. Yet, she all did it meticulousky and quietly.
As soon as she was statisfied, she turned to the door with a small silver knife in her hand. She started to enforce the lock. As soon as she succeeded, she put the knife back somewhere along the chaos she organised and walked out, pushing the door against the post. No one seemed to be present, so she slipped into the streets and dissappeared for the inn again.
Once he was sure the boy was asleep, Puck was a bird again and he swooped through a window, catching sight of a flash of red had and following the girl from the air.
Usagi clambered up the side of the inn and pulled herself in again through the window, where she stood and stretched her arms.
Puck took human shape as he came through the window, dropping to the ground and rolling up into a standing position.
"Satisfied?" he asked blandly, staring at her.
"Hm?" She glanced up at him, frowning softly. "He was just a means of getting noticed. I won't get paid for this."
He shook his head and looked away. "You're tearing yourself apart, whether you realize it or not."
"That would indicate I'm still in one piece," Usagi replied with a soft murmur.
Puck didn't say anything, scowling and flopping onto the bed. "Whatever you like." Mortals seemed to be quite adept at deluding themselves.
"Your words, not mine," Usagi replied with a soft sigh.
He shook his head. "Just get some rest, lass."
A soft chuckle left her, "you just want me to crawl in bed with you, huh?" She inquired as she walked over, laying down next to him and closing her eyes.
He cracked an eye open to look at her wryly. "If you object, I can always sleep on the floor. Or be a cat again."
"I'm not going to tell you what to do," she replied with a soft murmur.
"Hrmph." He rolled onto his side to put his back to her. "Just get some rest, lass, alright?"
"You're repeating yourself," she replied as she closed her eyes, huffing softly.
He huffed at her but didn't reply, absently taking cat form again as he curled in on himself to go to sleep.
Usagi didn't reply, she slowly slipped into a soft sleep.
Almost unconsciously, Puck shifted closer to her as he started to drift off, curling up against her side and purring quietly.
She didn't really notice, since she was alread fast asleep.
Puck didn't really need sleep, but he wouldn't object to it on principle. Still, he was in and out of unconsciousness, hovering sort of near sleep.
Usagi was fast asleep and wouldn't wake untill dawn.
By the time Usagi woke, Puck was gone. He was a wild creature by nature, and spending so long in an enclosed space was starting to feel suffocating. He hadn't gone far though, perched above the window as a hawk, preening his feathers.
"You think they noticed yet?" Usagi inquired as she leaned out of the window, having woken and walked in complete silence.
The hawk glanced down at her and tilted his head to the side. Who hasn't noticed what?
"The child, perhaps the guardsmen under him, anyone," she answered with a soft snort. "Because my orders are ready tomorrow."
Puck fell forward, becoming human and swinging himself into the room. "Is that so?" he replied, tone carefully bored.
Usagi stepped sidewards as Puck flung in thriugh the window. She folded her arms and nodded. "Yes."
"Well, the I suppose you must be pleased." He ran a hand through his hair and frowned. "I need to bathe."
"It's just weaponry. It isn't something that makes me happy. Its something.I need to survive," she answered and shrugged. "Then go find a river."
He blinked, giving her puppy eyes. "Won't some of those sparkly bits we gathered buy us a proper bath?" It was a luxury he didn't experience often.
She arched. An eyebrow, before sighing. "Fine. There is a bathhouse here," she replied with a soft shrug, leaning against the window.
He nodded. "What should I bring?" His eyes flicked to their little stash of stolen treasures, unused to human currency.
"You're sticking with me. And you sure as hell are going in with either clothes or as a cat," Usagi replied with a frown.
He sighed a little dramatically. "Fine, fine." He took a cat form and glanced up at he dryly, as of to say Happy now?
She picked up a coinpurse and glared at him. "There is a difference between happiness and keeping a low profile."
He rolled his shoulders in a feline shrug and padded to stand by her feet, twining around her legs.
Usagi sighed and walked towards the door, pushing it open and descending a flight of stairs. She walked trough the streets and at last, reached the bathhouse, where she glanced at Puck, before entering.
After paying a small fee, she headed for the designated dressing rooms and started to strip down.
Puck trotted after her easily, tail straight up and ears perked forward curiously. He waited until Usagi started to undress before he took human form, taking that as a cue that people wouldn't be around.
"I've never been in a place like this," he noted, looking around.
"A first thing to all things," Usagi replied with a soft shrug as she was completely naked, making her way way to the baths.
He trailed after her, still glancing around curiously. "I suppose humans can be rather clever," he mused. "Heating water without magic and such."
"That's what they call fire," Usagi replied as they reached the bathing area. It seemed like they were the only two present.
Puck gave her an incredibly dry look. "I am aware how the process works. I was merely admiring that humans have developed an easy means of doing so." He scoffed. "You'd think you would just take the compliment, they don't come often."
Usagi shrugged as she sat down on a stool, taking a bucket of water that was present. "What compliment? You are generalising humans and clearly underestimate humans and see them as inferior," she poured the bucket over her head and slicked her hair back. "That's hardly a compliment."
"You are inferior." He shrugged and eyed another bucket of water cautiously. "That is just a statement of fact. So it is impressive when you create something like this."
"And as such, I repeat my question. What compliment?" She glanced at him, her face a guise of neutrality. She stood up with the bucket and walked to the small pool, filling it again, there were still some flakes of blood she'd have to get out.
He rolled his eyes. It seemed like a perfectly acceptable thing to say to him, he didn't understand her surliness.
"Here." Puck moved to stand next to her and dragged his fingers through her hair, scratching lightly to loosen any bits of...whatever left. Almost like a bird preening feathers.
Usagi let out a soft hum of approval. "Feels nice," she said as she glanced over her shoulder. She slid the bucket over. "Here," she murmured.
Puck smiled a bit and slowly withdrew his hand. "Thanks."
He glanced at the water, then cautiously tried to repeat what she had done, upending the bucket over his head. A little shiver ran through him at the pleasing warmth and he actually purred, closing his eyes.
Usagi shrugged, leaning forward to slide in the water. She surfaced and started to wash her arms.
Puck smirked, then jumped into the water, swamping Usagi with a wave.
"Graceful," Usagi murmured as she extended her leg abive the surface, leaning forward to wash it.
Either not understanding her sarcasm or choosing to ignore it, Puck grinned. "Thanks." He sent another little splash her direction before ducking under the water, running his hands through his hair in an effort to clean it a bit.
She turned her head slightly to avoid the splashed water, startingbto wash her other leg. When she was done, she gather her hair and rested it over her shoulder. "Care to wash my back?"
Head barely above the water, Puck gave her a curious look, then a shrug. "If you'd like." He moved forward to scrub at her back, expression bland as always but touch gentle.
Usagi let out a soft hum again. "Like that," she murmured as she kept her hair out of the way.
Puck tilted his head and tailored his touch to her reactions, trying to be as gentle as possible. No matter how hardened she tried to appear, he was sure one wrong touch might trigger some sort of flashback, or fight-or-flight response.
Usagi closed her eyes and let out a soft whimper. "Getting greedy, huh.."
"Greedy?" He frowned, confused. "I don't think I understand what you mean by that."
"Your movements are getting more bold," Usagi replied with a soft murmur. "Trying to do wash something more than my back?"
Puck paused. He arched an eyebrow at her back. "Do you want me to?" His hands slid up into her hair, scrubbing lightly at her scalp.
"You'll have to figure that out," she murmured with a soft and seductive smile.
He suddenly stepped back from her. "If you want something of me, Usagi, tell me. I don't want to play this game with you- you have been hurt, and you're not being fair to yourself."
Usagi sighed slowly, turning around to face Puck. "Fair to myself?"
She smirked and closed in on him. "I take what I want, when I want," she put her hands on his shoulders and pulled herself closer. "I'm selfish like that. And I like playing these games." By then, her voice had become a husky whisper in his ear.
He didn't pull away, but he didn't exactly lean into her touch either. "Well?" Puck arched an eyebrow. "Are you going to take what you want or not?"
She rested her arms ln his shoulders and straddled him, granted they were in the position to do so. "Of course," she replied with a soft chuckle as she pressed her body to his. "But you don't know what it is I want."
"Care to enlighten me?" Puck murmured, watching her face. His body was responding to her quite easily, but it didn't seem to bother him unduly.
"Where's the fun in that?" She asked with a soft chuckle. "And your body doesn't seem to lie," she murmured with a dangerous glint to her eyes.
"I can't lie. I've already told you that," Puck said with a small frown, her meaning completely flying over his head.
A soft chuckle came from her. It wasn't entirely surprising he didn't get the meaning of it.
Slender fingers slowly caressed up and down his member, at the same time , she rubbed herself against him with soft and slow rolls of her hips. "Tell me what you want," she asked with a ragged chuckle.
Puck hissed in a breath through his teeth and closed his eyes for a moment. He wasn't exactly willing to admit it, but it had been a long time since he's been with someone like this. His kind may have been near famous for their seduction and lust, but he seemed to have put himself on a personal hiatus.
Which was seeming like a terrible idea right now.
"What do you want?" he turned the question back to her, meeting her eyes.
Usagi smirked softly. "Tut tut, I asked first," she stated as she gave a more agressive roll of her hips to accentuate her point.
Puck twisted his head away from her. "I don't...want anything," he almost-lied. "But if this will make make you feel better, it costs me nothing to humor you."
"Such a blatant lie," she chuckled. "You fae truly can't lie," a soft smirk crossed her face. "If you wanted nothing, this," she gripped his shaft, "wouldn't be as lively as it is now."
She gave him a slightly colder look. "I'll repeat. What do you want?"
"Wasn't...a lie," Puck hissed, closing his eyes as she wrapped her fingers around him. "Not- not really. Bending the truth. I don't want anything."
He looked away from her. "I feel it is fairly obvious by now what I want. You are welcome to take it."
She squeezed him lightly. "I see," she murmured as she leaned in close, resting her chin on his shoulder. "Tell me you want it. Convince me you want it," she said with a breathy whisper.
He tried to twist his head away from her, but there really wasn't anywhere he could go. "Even if I did," he said slowly, "this...probably wouldn't be a good idea." He swallowed. "Fae can be...addictive."
"Yes or no," she started to stroke him softly. "Tough you're saying yes down there," she replied with a soft chuckle. "Then make me addicted. You made me curious." She pressed forward, having gotten him against the side. There was no escape for him now.
Puck closed his eyes and let out an almost resigned breath, reaching up to grasp her hips gently. His head tilted slightly to one side, eyes searching her face.
"Could I ask something of you?" Green eyes glinted at her. "Use my name. Tell me what you want." If she ordered him, it would relieve some of the responsibility from him.
A soft chuckle left Usagi. "Tarren Puck, you know what to do," she whispered softly. "Fuck me," she closed her eyes as she pressed her hips forward.
Puck's eyes flashed and he suddenly bucked up against her, nails digging into the flesh of her hips. One hand slipped between them to stroke her, fingers spreading her so he could lance up into her.
A gasping cry left her, before a soft smile spread across her face. She rested her chin against his shoulder and let out a delicious moan.
She put a hand on the side of his head, pressing a kiss in the crook of his neck. "That's it," Usagi breathed with a soft chuckle. "Just be gentle.. It's been.. Some time."
A soft growl rumbled up out of Puck's chest and he twisted his head to nip lightly at her ear. His hips rolled beneath her, slow and gentle, testing.
He bit down on a groan and smoothed his hands up her back, holding her against his chest.
She arched her back against Puck, closing her eyes with a soft gasp. "Like that," she whispered with a soft rocking of her hips.
He purred against her ear, daring to trail a few soft kisses along her jaw. "I think I was wrong before," Puck murmured. "Perhaps you're not such a child after all."
"At least you're honest," Usagi replied as she bit her lip softly, before letting out a small whimper to his ministrations.
Puck leaned back until his back thumped against the side of the basin. His eyes flicked over her form, darkening slightly.

He slipped away, seeming to disappear around a corner. When he returned, he had once again taken the shape of a cat, sitting primly at the edge of the bath, tail curled primly over his paws.
"It was your choice," Usagi murmured with a soft shrug, leaning back against the side of the pont and closing her eyes. "You decided to stop."
Puck tilted his head at her, but remained a cat, not saying a word. He didn't seem particularly irritated, just waiting for her to finish her bath.
After a short while, Usagi rose from the bath. "Ready?"
He meowed and nodded, brushing up against her legs, and then gave a little yowl and jumped back, shaking water from his fur with a sour grumble.
"Idiot," Usagi said with a soft chuckle, making her way back to the dressing room. She stopped infront of the pile of clothes that made for her clothes and frowned.
She picked up a piece of paper, unfolding it and holding it up, before smirking. "So. The red kiss, huh." She murmured to herself.
Puck rose up on his back paws to see what she was looking at, meowing questioningly.
"An assassination contract," a soft chuckle left her. "So they remember the Crimson Solstice."
He huffed and dropped back to all for paws, twining around her legs and meowing persistently, trying to urge her toward the entrance to the bathhouse.
"Let me get dressed first," Usagi murmured as she tried to push him away with her foot, starting to dry herself off.
Puck subsided, giving her some space to dress as he paced back and forth in front of her.
Usagi dressed swiftly and let out a soft sigh, this was technically a free contract. The weaponry and clothing had been arranged by the client and she'd get the valuables back.
But. It was, technically paid work. Which was a positive note. She made her way to the exit with a soft smirk. That and the client had made sure she and Kit could do their bussiness undisturbed in the spa.
Puck followed after her easily, deciding to just go with the flow for the moment.
When they exited the bath house, the dun had already set with a deep crimson hue.
Usagi trailed off, headed for the inn. After a short while, they arrived. She pushed open the door and walked in, turning to Puck. "You want dinner?" She inquired with a soft sigh
The cat sat back on his hind legs and meowed, ears pricked forward with a pure and an emphatic nod.
Usagi nodded and turned to the counter. "Meat and mushroom stew for two," she glanced.back at Kit. "Also ale." She said to the keep, before turning on her feet and walking up the stairs. The elder man had a bewildered look.
Puck followed her up the stairs with a brief nod for the innkeeper- who did a double take, then shook his head- and pawed at her ankles as they made their way into the room, meowing and tail twitching playfully.
Usagi glanced down at hi, before turning around to pick him up. "If you got something to say," her gaze stonecold, "I don't speak cat."
He would have taken human form, but he didn't want to accidentally crush her, what with the way she was holding him. So instead he just purred louder and batted at her nose playfully, whiskers twitching.
"Don't you attack me, Mittens," she snorted softly, putting him down again. Tomorrow.
Tomorrow was the big day. And she had an assassination to plan.

Usagi glanced down at him. "You're being awfully succesful at being a nuisance to me," she answered with a scowl, pushing his foot away with her leg.
"It's one of my many talents." He smirked at her. "But I make up for it in other ways." He brought his foot back to run up and down her leg teasingly, then hooked his leg around her to pull her closer to the bed.
Usagi glared down at him. Coldly and uninterested. "And you said you were going to finish it yourself," she said, mocking clear in her voice.
He shrugged, sitting up. "I did." His head tilted to one side. "I was rather under the impression that you enjoyed yourself, that's all. And I thought sex helped humans relax."

She squeezed his wrists. "And I want to be held close. And I want to called pretty."
He laced his fingers with hers, head tilted as he listened. Actually listened, taking what she said to heart.
"But you don't just want me to say it," he guessed slowly. "You want me to mean it." He untangled one hand from hers so he could reach up and stroke her cheek.
"You catch on quick," she smirked as she softly pressed her cheek against the hand. She fluttered her eyes and turned to kiss his wrist. "Even more, I want you to mean it without me even asking for it. I want you to admire me, each and every day."
Puck mulled that over for a moment. "I could do that," he mused aloud. "You are quite lovely, Usagi." A smirk tugged at his lips and he added, "Bunny. A strange name for such a fierce girl."
She hummed softly, before letting out a soft chuckle. "You're the first to know the translation," she answered.
His smirk widened a bit. "I'm very old, little rabbit. I've learned a lot of languages in my time."
She sighed softly. "That name is to stay, huh?"
He chuckled, smoothing his thumb over her cheek. "It doesn't have to if you don't like it," he murmured. "I suppose it does suit you though, oddly. When you're not killing people."
"I don't mind," she replied with a soft snort. "Nicknames are just that. And I'm used to being referenced by one," she smirked softly and leaned forward. "Then again, a pet name is different from an assassination profile."
"Quite," Puck agreed, stroking his thumb over her cheek again.
"So, little rabbit it is?" She inquired as she leaned forward to press a soft kiss on his lips.
"If you don't object," Puck murmured when they broke apart before tilting his head and pulling her in for another kiss.
Usagi hummed softly, before leaning back. A soft smirk on her face. "There's dinner still coming for us," she bit her lip softly. "You sure you're going to be in time?"
A small glint lot in his eyes at the challenge. "I think if I put some effort into it, I could get you to come twice before our dinner gets here," he purred, letting his hand slip down to her waist.
Usagi smirked softly. "Aren't you the confident one," she noted as she looked down on his hand, still.biting her lip in anticipation.
"Well, I did say some effort," Puck purred, gently twisting to push her back onto the bed and hover over her. He leaned in to kiss her neck, then trail down over her chest. "If you want me to stop, just say something," he murmured, still a little wary.
Usagi chuckled softly. "So concerned," she replied as she hooked her fingers around the hem of her cleavage and tugged the tunic down over her chest. "But time's running," she teased.
"Would you rather I were otherwise?" Puck murmured, but he didn't really give her time to respond, instead sealing his lips over hers as his hands helped work at the rest of her clothing.
Usagi let out a soft hum against his his lips, grabbing a hold of the hand that was further undressing her. She broke the kiss, but didn't back away from his face. "I'd rather have something I can immediatly pull on," she breathed.
His hands slid to her waist, thumbs rubbing circles over her skin. "As you wish," he replied easily. His kisses trailed lower, dusting over her chest.
A soft gasp left Usagi, yet she still bit her lip, looking down at Puck in anticipation.

"Silly mortals, huh," Usagi asked in a teasing tone, before starting to eat the meal presented to her.
"Well, it does seem rather time consuming," Puck replied blandly, either not understanding her teasing tone or choosing to ignore it.
His head tilted to the side as he watched her eat curiously.
Usagi glanced at him. "A regular human can go roughly three days without water. One week without food. Then they die quite painfully," she murmured, before glancing down at the mess of clothes she was wearing.
With a soft sigh, she slipped the breeches, which was quite stained due to both, off of her leg, followed by pulling the tunic off, deciding to proceed eating completely naked.
"Hm." Puck scooted a little closer, wrapping his arms around her middle and resting his chin on her shoulder. "I would say my kind are roughly the same, actually. We just don't need as much food. A piece of fruit or such could sustain me for a day or two."
She glanced at his face, before sighing softly, proceeding to eat. "Ever saw a man drown. It's quite disgusting," she stated.
"Yes." He raised one eyebrow at her. "That seems quite random though. Sure you're not still a little out of it?"
"Hm? Not at all random, that's how the buyer wishes to see one of the targets end," she replied with a soft shrug.
He frowned. "Why drowning specifically? Death is death, is it not?"
"In this bussiness, death is not enough," Usagi replied. "Some clients pay extra to have their targets killed specifically. This is mostly to exact some kind of personal revenge."
Puck huffed, twisting his head to nuzzle against her cheek almost absently. "Petty," he murmured.
"Mayhaps," Usagi replied. "I just get paid more," she concluded, before casting him a disturbe glare. "I'm still trying to eat here," she murmured.
He chuckled, kissing her cheek. "I know," he purred. "I'm just offering a small challenge. Training or whatever."
Usagi sighed slowly, putting her plate down and turning to face him. "You're exceptionally clingy this evening."
"I like the way you feel," he replied easily, stroking one hand down her side to her hip. "You're soft, and warm. And I can feel the life in you. It's different from fae, it's...intriguing."
Usagi leaned into him, closing her eyes. "I see," she replied with a soft murmur. "Even though I'm a murderer?"

Usagi let out a soft chuckle. "We had this discussion already," she closed her eyes with a soft hum. "And even if you're right and I find that small part," she sighed softly. "I'll kill it myself."
He rested his forehead against her temple. "Why though," he murmured. He still couldn't understand her determination to deny anything human about her.
"It's who I was forced to become," she whispered, resting her head against his chest. "I got a weapon pushed in my hands when I was ten, firdt kill when I was eleven." She smiled faintly. "I wasn't taught to read, to write or even to speak properly. I was only taught to kill. Taught to hide."

He chuckled. "As you wish." Twisting to move the tray from the bed, he snagged a few mouthfuls of food and then flopped back.
"Sleep, bunny," he murmured, eyes sliding closed.
"Don't tell me what to do," Usagi murmured. "I sleep when I damn well please. It just happens to be now," she snickered softly, closing her eyes.
Puck snorted. "Of course." He arched his back to stretch, as as h sank back onto the bed he sort of collapsed into feline form- a wildcat, larger than the domestic type but still quite a bit smaller than a leopard or a tiger.
Usagi snorted and pushed some fur from her face. "I'd prefer if I didn't wake up covered in fur, or with my face clawed open."
He rolled over and pressed his nose against hers, purring, then licked her cheek with a sandpaper tongue before curling up closer to the foot of the bed.
Seemed like she wasn't obbious enough. With a soft sigh, she pulled Puck up slightly. "Can you," she glanced away, voice lowering slightly. "At least be in human form when we sleep in the same bed?"
Fur changed to flesh beneath her fingers and he stretched, moving himself higher up on the bed.
"All you had to do was ask," he murmured, settling beside her comfortably and closing his eyes.
Usagi sighed softly as she turned to face him, or his back, depending how he was lying. "Remember what I said, Puck. I don't want you to only say it," she murmured, pressing her hands against his chest, or back, once again, depznding on how he was lying.
"I know." He settled more comfortably to face her. "But you should learn to ask. It is not a weakness to seek affection."
"It's emberassing," Usagi replied with a murmur.
Puck smirked. "Perhaps." He brushed a few strands of hair from her face. "But it would still be good for you."
"Just hug me," she murmured softly, pressing her hands against his chest.
He chuckled quietly and wrapped his arms around her. "As you wish, little rabbit."
Usagi huffed slightly as she rested her cheek against his chest. "Smug bastard," she murmured with a soft sigh.
He laughed again and kissed the top of her head. "Get some sleep."
"I know, I know," shevmurmured dismissivly, closing her eyes with z soft snort.
Puck gave a quiet rumble and held her a little tighter, curbing his body around her as he closed his eyes to sleep.
Usagi let out a content hum as she drifted off to sleep.
Puck slept easily, motionless, and around sunrise he opened his eyes as though incur, sitting up and stretching his spine.
Usagi also slept rather quietly, yet across the course of the night, she had curled up into a small and protective ball, pressed closely against Puck's chest, seeking not only warmth but protection in her subconcious state, hugging one of his arms closely.
"Hey." Puck shifted her slightly, pulling her up against his chest slightly. "Wake up, little rabbit."
Usagi murmured softly, before taking a deep, snorting breath, cheek rubbing agaisnt his chest as she sat up slightly. "What?"
"It's morning," he replied, carding his fingers through her hair and sitting up, pulling her with him to keep her held gently against his chest.
Usagi snorted softly as she was pulled up straight, pulling herself closer to his chest and yawning softly. "You fucked me into exhaustion.. I deserve some extra hours," she murmured.
Puck smirked. "Did I?" He nuzzled her neck, kissing the slope of her shoulder lightly. "Hm, perhaps we shouldn't do that anymore then."
"No need to make hasty decisions now," Usagi murmured as her eyes fluttered with an approving hum.
Another quiet chuckle and he pulled her a little closer, essentially moving her body into his lap and folding his legs under them both to boost her closer so he could kiss her temple.
Usagi crinkled her nose and closed her left eye at the kiss. "What's on your mind?"
"What makes you think anything's on my mind?" he replied easily, settling back and closing his eyes.
"Because I know you," Usagi replied pointedly, resting her head against his chest and closing her eyes. "I like this," she murmured, still sleepy.
A contented rumble rose up in his chest and he kissed the top of her head. "Then let's just stay here a while."
"Let's," Usagi agreed as she rested a hand against his chest, snuggling her cheek closer. "Your heartbeat is soothing," she murmured softly.
"Is it?" He smoothed a hand up and down her back. "That's odd. It's just a heartbeat."
Usagi smiled faintly. "It's warm, rythmic and soft," she pressed a soft kiss to his chest. "And it reminds me even you have weaknesses, just in case."
Puck looked down at the top of her head. "Are you planning to kill me then?"
"Not at all," Usagi replied, oressing another soft kiss to his chest. "It just reaffirms what I already knew. Everything has a weakspot. And it comforts me to know that."
He frowned slightly. "I'm almost not sure I should tell you this now- but my heart isn't my weak spot."
"Can you fae live without a beating heart, then?" She asked, opening her eyes slightly to glance up at him.
Puck shook his head slowly. Here he was, about to reveal another secret. "No. We cannot. But this..." He placed his hand over his chest. "This isn't my heart. Not really."
Usagi leaned back, slightly frowning. "Oh?"
"Mhm." He nodded and let his head rest back, closing his eyes. "You could cut me open and take it out and it wouldn't make much difference. Burn me, tear me apart, doesn't matter. If you don't destroy my true heart, I will still live."
"So, your 'true' heart.. It's some kind of item or.. Thing, outside your body?" She blinked slightly, moving lightly in his lap.
Puck nodded again, shifting his grip on her as she moved. "Yes, that's the easiest way of looking at it."
Usagi nodded, before leaning back, putting her hands on his shoulders as she did. She was obviously searching his body for trinkets, rings or any of the likes. If she wouldn't find anything, looking for any kind of regularities on his body.
He laughed, shaking his head as she searched. He spread himself out on the bed. "Search as you will, little rabbit, I'm not so foolhardy as to keep it on me. It is hidden away. Safe."
Usagi followed him down, nuzzling against his chest. "I thought so," she answered with a soft sigh.
"Disappointed?" he asked with a bit of a smirk.
"I was curious as to how it looks, so only a little," Usagi answered, drawing smill circles on his chest with her finger.
"You already know my name," Puck murmured, reached up to cup her cheek in his palm. "That was foolhardy enough of me. You'll have to earn it if you want to know what my heart is."
"Do you regret giving me your name?" She inquired, turning her head to kiss the palm of his hand softly.
"I don't know," he answered honestly- as he had to. "I haven't yet, but I suppose there is always the chance you could make me do so."
Usagi smirked softly. "I'll try not to," she replied, leaning up to kiss his chin.
Puck tilted his head to catch her lips. "And I'll try to believe you." He smirked slightly. "Mortals are notorious for breaking their promises."
"Are we now?" She inquired with a soft chuckle, putting her hands on his chest again. "You generalise a lot, hm?"
"Perhaps." He shrugged. "I am simply stating my understanding as gathered from personal experience."
"No, you're just doing it," Usagi pushed herself up, settling on his stomach. "I should head out to get my equipment soon," she murmured.
"Should I come with you?" He clasped her hips gently, thumbs rubbing circles over her skin.
Usagi let out a soft hum. "If you want," she said, putting her hands on his, starting to sway her hips slightly in his hands.
Puck chuckled quietly. "I thought you wanted to leave soon," he murmured, rocking his hips gently beneath hers and stroking his fingers over her sides.
"I want to," Usagi murmured in reply. "I thought you might enjoy the view first."
"Well, it is a nice view." Her leaned in to kiss the curve of her hip lightly.
Usagi let out a soft hum of approval. "Is that whay you're going to leave it to?"
He trailed kisses to her navel, glancing up at her face as he did. "What else would you want?"

Puck smirked up at her, then ducked his head and shuffled down on the bed so he could press quick, light kisses up the inside of her thighs, fingers teasing at her hips and backside.

Puck's finger moved forward to catch the drop of water. He frowned at it, then searched her face. "You're crying." His frown deepened. "Did I- I didn't want to make you sad."
Usagi shook her head, nuzzling against his cheek. "You didn't."
He cupped her face in his hands, brow furrowed in confusion. "Then why are you crying?"
"Because I'm happy, Puck," she smiled weakly. "In a way. You did make me.cry, come to think of it."
"Happy...crying." Still frowning, he wrapped his arms around her and drew her against his chest. "Don't cry. I don't want you to cry."
This was odd. The girl was odd. He could feel something shifting, a subtle change- she'd gone from something that needed help to a sort of entertaining pet to...friend? Is that what this was?
Usagi glanced up at him, eyes widening slightly in surprise, her gaze softened again. She closed her eyes and nuzzled against her chest. "I love you," she murmured softly.
"Oh." Puck blinked and looked down at the top of her head. "That- that's...okay then," he murmured, not sure what else to say. He tightened his arms around her and rested his cheek against her head.
"I think...I care for you too," he murmured after several moments.
Usagi pressed a soft kiss against his throat. "Just say the word, Puck."
"I...don't want to." He stroked her back. "Not- not because I don't, necessarily. But I think it...it means something different for my kind and yours."
"Then what does it mean for Fae, Puck?" She inquired, looking up at his face. Usagi moved out from underneath him, preferring laying next to him, rather than underneath him. She grabbed his arm and hugged it closely, resting her head on his shoulder.
"I'm not entirely sure," he admitted after a moment of thought. "It's considered...very human. We don't "love" the same way, I suppose. My people take a mate when it suits them, then move on when they feel the urge."
Usually. There were exceptions, but he didn't feel the need to mention that.
Puck pulled her a little closer, kissing the top of her head. "I meant what I said. I'll stay as long as you need me."
After all, what was one human life in the grand scheme of things, really, when you had millennia to live.
Usagi let out a soft snicker, sighing slowly, closing her eyes. "Silly," she murmured.
He shrugged. "Maybe to you. It's just the way we are."
"That sounds like hypocracy to me, dear Puck," she answered with a chuckle. "Since I can recall multiple occasions of you remarking the silliness of humans."
"Like I said. Silly to you, just as your kind is silly to me," Puck replied with a crooked smirk a kiss to her forehead.
"Fair enough," she snickered, pushing herself up. "Well, it's about time I went to collect my orders and started to prepare some things," she glanced down at him with a soft smile, before getting up completely and starting to get dressed.
"Mm." He sat up and watched her, head tilted to the side. "Should I accompany you?"
"If you wish," Usagi replied as she pulled the dress on. "It's just picking up the weapons and clothing.
"Would you prefer canine or feline form?" Puck asked, slipped off the bed and stretching his arms over his head.
"I couldn't care in the slightest," Usagi replied with a soft shrug, straightening out the dress and her hair.
He quirked an eyebrow, but took a large-ish cat form, as that usually seemed to be her preference.
She smirked slightly. "That works," Usagi stated, before walking over to the window and flinging herself out.
Puck followed on silent paws, jumping from the window to a low roof to the ground and trotting after her.
Usagi balanced on the rooftops, it seemed like this wasn't the first time she did so. After a short while, she slid down a rooftop and landed infront what looked like a tailor, before stepping inside.
Having some experience with the way shop owners reacted to stray cats, Puck decided to wait outside, siting by the door with his tail curled primly around his paws.
Usagi walked out again, clad in deep red robes, befitting of her nickname as the Red Solstice. She walked out with unparalelled grace, it seemed like the clothes did not only make a man.
Puck meowed and got to his feet, bounding over to her to rub against her legs, purring.
Usagi ran her hand across Puck's head. "Now just the blacksmith," she murmured, standing up straight again.
The cat-fae pawed and her leg and mewed again, stretching up onto his back paws so he could knead at her hip, then reach higher with his front legs. Clearly asking to be picked up.
Usagi sighed softly, picking him up and draping him in her neck. "Like that?" She inquired at the cat in her neck.
Puck purred, loudly, and licked her cheek, evidently quite content with his new perch.
Usagi snorted softly. "It's settled then," she said, making her way towards the blacksmith, who didn't seem to be too far off from the tailor.
Puck settled himself more comfortably around her neck, purring contentedly.
Usagi pushed open the door to the smithy, walking in, looking down at a table stockpiled with weapons. Two Kama, dozens of knives, daggers and needles, she glanced up at the smith, who only nodded. "I take it these are fully paid for?" she asked, walking overto the table and picking up one of the scythes, circling it in her hand. "It's lighter than I remember."
Pucl kept himself draped around her neck, glancing around the smithy with narrowed eyes. He rumbled quietly in his chest and butted her cheek with his head gently.
"Yes, yes, Mittens," she murmured as she started to sheath all the weapons in their respective slots. After a short while, she was done with fitting the weapons to her body, pulling out one last needle, before opening her mouth and pushing it in behind her nether lip, using the stitches to keep it in place.
She grabbed a wooden stake that was prepared and started to bind her hair around the large, wooden device.
Mittens?
Puck yowled in her ear and flexed his claws in retaliation, though it was softened by another lick to her cheek.
Her hand, being rather close to her neck, shot down towards Puck as he yowled, grabbing him and throwing him away for several meters.
The fae creature changed in the air to the form of a crow, cawed at her, then flew out through the door.
The blacksmith, eyes wide, opened his mouth to inquire, then glanced at the person infront of him, snapping his mouth shut again. The character he was led to believe infront of him didn't take kindly to questions.
Usagi snorted softly, turning around on her heels and walking out again.
Puck was perched on a nearby rooftop, keeping an eye on Usagi but giving her her space.
Usagi glanced up at Puck, before turning around, snorting softly and heading back to the inn.
Still in bird form, he followed, perching on the sill of their window.
However, Usagi walked past the in this time, heading for the border of the town, indicated by a small river with a bridge. She leaned on the rail of said bridge and looked down. Nodding softly to herself.
Still a crow, Puck followed, perching on the opposite rail of the bridge.
"Need a rope," Usagi murmured to herself, leaning foward over the rail to estimate what length said rope had to be.
The crow cawed at her and hopped in place, then projected an idea: he could always snatch one.
"You could try," Usagi murmured softly. "I'd need at least twenty meters.."
The crow nodded at her, cawed again, then took off.
Usagi arched an eyebrow as Puck took off again. Wondering whether he'd find what she needed.
Soon after, Puck returned trailing a length of rope. A long one. He dropped it in her lap.
Usagi blinked in surprise, before looking up at Puck who flew by. She wasn't sure where he found it or how he was able to take it with. But she wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. She swiftly bundled up the rope before standing up to hide it in the shrubbery near to the bridge.
Puck perched on the far side of the bridge, keeping watch on both Usagi and their surroundings.
When she had succesfully hidden the robe, Usagi sighed softly. "You can go to the inn again," she said as she glanced at the setting sun. "I will be therr in four hours."
Puck cawed and shook his head. He wasn't leaving her.
"I'll rephrase. I'd prefer if you'd go to the inn," she replied. She had to stalk and observe her target. The original plan was to take him at night, just pluck him from his home. But she wanted certainty.
With a rather disgruntled clucking and ruffling of feathers, he took to the air, circling once before soaring away.
Usagi glanced at Puck as he took off, sighing softly.
So it began. Back in the game.
After several hours, Usagi did return to the inn, crawling in through the window. Her arms were soaking wet, several light splutters of blood on her face and hands.
Puck was sprawled out on the bed in his humanoid form, fiddling with one of the baubles he'd managed to filch a few days before. He barely glanced up at her. "You should wash off before the innkeeper sees you."
Usagi glanced at Puck, before spitting in her hand, starting to rub the blood off of her face.
"Or I could call for a bath," Puck noted lazily.
"Not needed," she replied with a soft snort. "We can go to the spa tomorrow."
"As you like." He shrugged. "But I'm not getting in bed with you a bloody mess."
Usagi let out a soft sigh. "Fine," she answered. "But you're helping with the hair."
He smirked at her and swung gracefully out of bed. "Of course."
"I didn't think you'd enjoy it," Usagi replied as she sat down on a chair, folding one leg over another and waiting. Sitting there rather prim and proper, despite the blood that still covered her face.
Puck gathered a small wash basin from the corner of the room and sat behind her, sipping his hands into the water to scrub at her hair. He didn't respond, evidently focused on his task.
"A-ouch." She hissed softly. "Be careful," she said, before pulling the wooden stake from her hair, letting the entirety of it flow down her shoulders.
"Sorry." He checked his movements. "Never done this before."
She leaned her head back more, closing her eyes. "Just be gentle," she murmured softly. "Comb out any knots, but just.. Y'know, don't pull out my scalp when you do that."
"Mm." Puck threaded his fingers through her hair as he scrubbed gently at her scalp. A moment's pause, then he leaned forward and shifted just his tongue to that of a cat, lapping at her neck in an effort to clean her skin.
Usagi hummed softly, chuckling. His obliviousness was cute to say the least. "It doesn't work like that," she murmured softly. "Not on humans at least.."
"Mph." He paused. "Then how does it work?"
"Human saliva on human skin, it doesn't feel clean at all," she murmured softly. "It's more of an intimate thing aswell, for humans, rather than a matter of hygiene."
"Hm." He frowned slightly. "You lot are a strange species."
Usagi chuckled softly. "Perhaps so. But you fae are as strange, then." She retorted with a soft smirk. "You have to use your hands and water to wash another human."
"We do that too," he pointed out with a bit of a huff. "We just can do other things as well. Humans are the only ones who think saliva is unclean."
"Well, it kind of is," Usagi answered with a soft shrug, before closing her eyes. "But regardless.. Please don't use saliva to clean me.."
Puck rumbled a chuckle. "I won't. I just think it's strange." He continued scrubbing at her hair gently.
Usagi smirked faintly. "You think that about a lot of things."
"Well, it's true about a lot of things," he retorted easily.
"That's your opinion," Usagi replied with a soft murmur. "Not mine."
"Oh? You find nothing in your world strange then? Inexplicable?"
"Ofcourse I do," Usagi shrugged softly. "But this is not one of those inexplicable things."
"Well, it is to me." He shrugged. "I'm sure you'd find aspects of my daily life in the Faerie Realms strange."
"I suppose so," Usagi replied with a soft chuckle.
"Mm." Puck moved away from her, back to the bed. "There. Now wash your face so you won't scare the innkeeper."
Usagi smiled softly and glanced over her shoulder. "You don't want to do that yourself?" She inquired with a soft chuckle.
He blinked. "Why should I? You're perfectly capable."
Usagi chuckled softly. "It's an intimate thing, stupid," she murmured under her breath.
"Oh." Another blink. "Do you...want me to?"
Usagi chuckled softly. "Yes," she added with a soft smile.
"Well. How would I do that?" He moved to kneel beside her and eyed the water basin, then splashed a bit at her experimentally.
Usagi giggled softly. "Just cup your hands and take some water, don't just splash it at me.."
He huffed and did as she said. "I still don't see why you can't do this yourself."
"I easily can, Puck," she murmured with a soft smile. "I just want you to do it."
He shook his head and muttered, "Strange," but continued washing her face.
She chuckled softly, holding her eyes closed. "I already explained it."
He just snorted quietly and continued working.
As soon as Puck was done, she sat up, before standing up and stretching, before starting to undress.
Puck sat back and tilted his head at her. "I thought you wanted to get something to eat."
"Hm?" She pulled her tunic on again. "We could do that," she answered with a soft snort.
He shrugged. "I don't need to eat. I just assumed you may want some nutrition."
"You assumed correctly," she answered as she fitted her cloth armgaurds again, before glancing at him. "You also could've said you wished to take me out to dinner, but romance doesn't seem to be your strong suit."
"But...we aren't going out." He frowned in confusion. "There is food here, in the inn."
She chuckled softly. "You're hopeless," she added, before walking over to the door. "But, regardless, yes. I hope you have some clothes."
Puck blinked at her, then said slowly, "How would I have procured clothes? I've been with you the whole time we've been here, or in this room."
"Well, there's no way I could've known the latter," she retorted with a soft sigh. "I know it's not a good idea to prance around naked in the dining hall."
He shrugged. "I'll just be a cat. Or a dog, or even a bird. Humans keep animal companions, yes? It won't be that suspicious."
Usagi nodded slowly. He did have a point. With a soft sigh, she admitted. "Alright then," she answered.
Puck nodded and took his preferred form of a raven, fluttering over to land on her shoulder and preen at her hair affectionately.
Usagi smiled softly as she pushed open the door, making her way down to the mess hall.
Puck flexed his talons slightly and continued preening her, animal instinct overriding higher reasoning as it usually did when he spent too much time in an out of animal forms.
Usagi hissed softly. "Careful with those claws," she murmured, proceeding to sit down. A familiar face, to Puck at least, belonged to the maid who had walked in on them. Upon seeing Usagi, she started to blush quite furiously. It seemed like she had gotten a really good look of the two.
Usagi glanced up at her. "Whatever's on the menu and ale," she stated with a soft snort. "And stop the staring." The maid, or rather servant, inclined her head and hurried away from the table.
A careful flick of his power and Puck managed to whisper through the girl's mind, "You could be nicer. Not her fault she walked in on us."
Usagi glanced at the crow on her shoulder. "Didn't realise it was her. Y'know. I was busy," she thought in her mind to answer, before a soft chuckle followed her thoughts.
The maid returned with her dinner and a pint of ale. Instead of snarling like she usually did, she found herself nodding. "Thanks," causing the maid to only blush deeper and rush off again. She snorted softly and sat back. "I tried," she murmured to the crow on her shoulder.
He gave a coughing sort of cluck, a crow's chuckle, and preened her hair back over her ear. "You'd better have been," he teased lightly.
Another chuckle when the maid scurried away and he added, "That was good. She's just embarrassed." Gods knew why though- humans could be so finicky about sex.
"Wouldn't mind being busy again later this evening," she rolled her neck slowly. "Possibly even a massage. I'm tense." She glanced at.him and extended her index finger to scratch his chin.
"Ofcourse she is," Usagi smirked broadly as she picked at her food. "I bet she's even envious," she thought-communicated to Puck, before taking a swig from her ale.
"Envious?" He tilted his head back to accommodate her scratching and clucked in annoyance when she stopped. "Of me or of you?"
"Don't know," she replied with a soft chuckle. "Depends on her preferences. Though she seems the type for both."
Hm. Surprisingly relaxed for a human, at least in his experiences. "And you?" He realized he'd never really asked. "Which do you prefer?"
"As I said before," she answered with a soft snort. "As long as it doesn't rape and torture me."
He clicked soothingly and switched forms, becoming a tabby cat that wound around her neck and started purring comfortingly.
Usagi arched an eyebrow, before sitting back after finishing her meal. "I'm curious," she glanced at the feline's head. "Do you only have one human form? Or can you take others? If so, can you have a female form?"
He stretched, arching his back. "I can, and I do. Why?"
Usagi shook her head softly. "Mere curiousity," she answered with a soft smile. "As curious as you tend to get."
"Hm." He nuzzled her cheek. "Eat your dinner, little rabbit."
"If you'd be paying attention," Usagi murmured softly. "You'd notice I'm done." She said, flicking out some coins and putting them on the table, before returning to their room.
Pnce she pushed the door shut, she sighed. "We're moving soon, no objections?"
The cat jumped down from her shoulders to the bed and stretched out, taking human form as he did to sprawl across the bed. "Should I have any?" he asked blandly.
"If you have," Usagi smiled softly. "State them. I'm willing to listen and take them into consideration."
He shrugged. "I don't care where we go."
Usagi smirked softly, starting to pull off her robes and cloth armour. "Then we're headed for Adela," she replied. "Been there?"
"Thousands of years old, little rabbit," he said in a rather bored tone, stretching and arching his back. "Of course I've been to Adela. I've been just about everywhere."
Usagi rolled her eyes. "Tsk," she answered as she lowered her armguards, before starting on her robes. "Sorry I asked."
"You really should know better by this point," Puck replied, apparently without any irony.
She shrugged softly as she tugged her tunic off. "Whatever," she murmured as she discarded the top of her robes to the side. "What can you tell me about Adela?" She inquired, loosening the cloth around her chest that surpressed her breasts.
And when she pulled it off, it revealed some knives on the inside, which she easily discarded to the side.
"Have you never been there?" He scooted to the side a bit to allow her more room on the bed if she wanted it.

Puck tried to hurry, and by the time she woke they were in a small cottage of sorts, the house quite literally grown out of the side of a tree. He had taken the form of a wildcat, curled up at the end of the bed while a green-skinned healer worked on the girl.

"I know you heard me." He nuzzled her temple. "You need the rest."

He smiled slightly. "Not really. Look." He nodded toward the small window, covered in sheer white curtains that looked like they may have been mad of actual spiderwebs. The sky beyond- what could be seen of it through the massive trees- was a riot of color, a sunrise and a sunset both frozen in time at once.
Usagi's frown only deepened. "It's pretty.. But that just feels even worse.. Constant twilight. Constant dawn.. No night.. No solstice," she sighed softly.
Puck shrugged. "Perhaps that is a mortal thing. I've never found it to be particularly abhorrent."
"Perhaps it is," Usagi mused with a soft sigh. "Still. It ennerves me. But it seems this world has no need of a Red Solstice," she smiled sadly. "What's my purpose then? If I'm not an assassin."
Again he shrugged. "Anything you want it to be."
"I have no idea," she answered with a soft sigh, it almost sounded sad. "I have no idea."

Usagi frowned and scooted closer to the fae, sighing softly as she did.

She glanced up at Puck. "My hands are too stained to do anything else."
He huffed and rolled his eyes. "You keep saying that. But it's only true if you believe it."
"Would you eat the bread made by the hands of someone you know has killed a lot of people?" She inquired, frowning at Puck. "I'm not seeking for absolution.. Nor for repentance, but I'm just that. A murderer."
"So?" He shrugged. "You were also a child once. Doesn't mean you still are."
"That's different," Usagi answered. "Time is something I couldn't avoid. Killing was."
Puck rolled his eyes. "Change is part of nature. Embrace it."
