__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description:
Aahva is a short, dark-skinned boy with sharp facial features. His eyes are a pale shade of blue. His silver hair is messy and all over the place. He wears a rather plain brown tunic made from woven plant fibers. Aahva has been forced to wear blue school robes like the other students at Wyrdwood. Like most Thanati, he has piercings- he wears a gold earring. Aahva speaks common fairly fluently, but he has a very thick Thanati accent.

Aahva's "wand" is actually a bronze pipe he pulled out of a wall. If he threatens to "cast a spell" on you, it really just means he'll throw the pipe at you.

Personality:
Aahva is a bully. He'll constantly mock and tease other children, and he'll often physically roughhouse them as well. If he figures out something he could do to get under another person's skin, he'll do it in a heartbeat. He calls things "retarded" and "gay" a lot, to the point of it practically being a verbal tic.

Aahvah hurts others because it makes him feel powerful- something he never felt back home. He was born out of a loveless marriage, a result of Thanatos's matchmaking culture. His parents were constantly arguing, and both took out their frustrations on him physically. Now that he's at Wyrdwood, he feels even more helpless- he's not allowed to leave, and he's begun to have frequent night terrors. Aahva is obsessed with escaping, but his subconscious fear of returning to his parents has prevented him from putting any of his schemes into practice.

Aahva has an interest in drawing and calligraphy, but he keeps it a secret because he's afraid people would make fun of him for it. He also likes sharpshooting, and often takes his slingshot to the school courtyard to harass unsuspecting students.

Relationships:
Aahva has been kidnapped by the Broken Seal, and he despises each and every one of it's members. He hates just about everybody at Wyrdwood, actually- he blames the entire school for taking him from his parents and his friend Ankita. Aahva has outright refused to do his schoolwork, but somehow he hasn't failed any of his assignments. His teachers seem to favor him for some reason, and it drives Aahva up the wall.

Aahva has an unusual friendship with Beatrix Evans. They only began hanging out because nobody else wanted to put up with them, and the two have become nearly inseparable as a result.
Best friends forever
[close]

Aahva was engaged to a girl he's never met. The wedding was supposed to be three years from now, but it may have been called off due to the boy's sudden disappearance.

Magic/Abilities:
Aahva has the ability to boost the power of mages around him. The effect is weak and barely noticeable, only affecting those who are standing less then five feet away. The boost in power is also minimal- a 3-4% increase at best. It's possible he may get more powerful as he grows older, but for now he's just a kid.

He has a curious secondary ability as well.- when he holds a mages hand, that mage can cast spells while inside a Mordecai's anti-magic field. As there are no Mordecai on Thanatos, he is unaware of this power.

Aahva has a slingshot, and his aim is pretty good. He also has a high tolerance for pain, and knows how to throw a punch. His age is (obviously) a hindrance however, and he knows better than to punch outside his weight class.

History:
Aahva was born on the festival of the dead. That, when combined with his silver hair, caused friends of the Chatterjee family to believe that he would bring his parents happiness. They were wrong, and Aahva grew up in a broken, abusive household.

Aahva's parents were too busy fighting with each other to pay him any real attention. His mother was an alcoholic, and when she was really drunk she'd mistake Aahva for her husband. His father would take out his frustrations on Aahva physically, and the boy learned the quickest way to make it stop is to just take it. He'd often go to school covered in bruises, but he told people that he got into fights because he was afraid of dishonoring his family by admitting that they beat him.

At the age of thirteen, Aahva was discovered and subsequently stolen away by an alumni of the Broken Seal. The boy's power was too important to let him go- he needed to be studied. Now being forced to attend a school he hates in a country he doesn't understand, Aahva's anger and need to feel control has only increased...

Northern Serendipity / Something Out Of Nothing (Yu)

"Come on, work damn it!" Emilia muttered under her breath. She had been fiddling with this magic particle emitter for roughly half a day, and she was beginning to get sick of it. She'd stolen the device- meant to to create a decorative stream of colorful sparks- from a party that was being thrown by one of Darken Vei's richer barons. Of course she had been spotted, and she had holed herself up in a damp cave in order to escape the guards who pursued her.

"I feel like a fucking primitive." Emilia though angrily. She was trying to get the particle emitter to emit antiparticles, but she wasn't having any success. Of course, the only tools she had to work with were a few toothpicks, a needle, some string, and a fork, so her ability to fine tune the device were already severely limited. "If I can get antiparticles, and get them to collide with the regular particles, the energy it releases may restore my powers. The particles are minuscule, so the blast should be relatively small. E = mc2, after all." Frowning, Emilia ran a hand through her once silky blonde hair. "That is, if I can get this damn thing to do anything apart from change the color of the sparks."

After another hour without success, Emilia screamed in frustration. Throwing the device on the ground, she began to snap the toothpicks apart in a fit of rage. "Why wont it work?" she asked nobody in particular. Suddenly, the particle emitter began to shake violently, causing Emilia to look up in shock. "Is it working?" she asked as she picked it up. Upon closer inspection, she laughed triumphantly- it was working. "Yes! I still got it!" she laughed as the particles collided with each other.

The blast sent Emilia flying backwards into a stalagmite. It hurt, but Emilia didn't care. Immediately she attempted to summon her old powers back to her. Nothing happened. After a few seconds she tried again, to no avail. Emilia's eyes narrowed. "No! No! After all of that, nothing? That can't be right, I was sure it'd work!" Looking up at where the explosion had been, Emilia saw what appeared to be the smallest of wormholes disappear, leaving something behind. Confused, she began to slowly walk towards it...

"Fuck."

The rain made it impossible to see. Eckhart stumbled through the forest, trying to find his way back to the road. He had only strayed off the path for a minute to take a look at some berries he'd seen on the side of the road, how did he manage to get lost? Thunder roared overheard, and a flash of lightning illuminated the night sky. "I'm going to catch pneumonia if I don't find shelter soon," Eckhart thought grimly. "This isn't how I thought I'd die, but I suppose fate is funny that way."

Eckhart wasn't used to weather like this. His jacket, meant to protect from the harsher elements up north, was completely soaked through. The rain had caused his mop of blonde hair to stick to his face, and he kept having to push it out of his eyes. His feet were the only part of him that were dry, but Eckhart wasn't sure how much longer that would last- his boots were beginning to make odd squelching noises as he walked. He sneezed. "Shit." Eckhart muttered. "This isn't good."

Salvation came in the form of an old house in the middle of the woods. From the looks of it, it had been abandoned for some time- at least a few years. A flash if lightning illuminated the cottage just long enough for Eckhart to notice the door was slightly ajar. Not caring if the building was occupied by anything, Eckhart ran inside. "Anything to get out of the rain." Almost immediately he took off his coat, leaving it on the floor. Without the heavy jacket, it'd become apparent to anybody who saw him that Eckhart was malnourished. Now taking a look around the dark room, Eckhart could see that he was in the kitchen. A small fireplace was in the center of the room, and there was a table with a few chairs. Sitting down, Eckhart began to rummage through his backpack for a change of clothes. After getting changed into slightly less soggy clothes- his pajamas- Eckhart sneezed again. "Someday, I'll be able to fix illnesses with magic," he thought angrily. "Then I won't have to worry about bullshit like this." Muttering under his breath, Eckhart would attempt to get the fireplace lit...

Arca / The Slaughterhouse (Closed)
March 30, 2017, 05:09:15 AM
A muffled yelp and a sickening crunch escaped into the air as the head of Griselda's target was crushed against the pavement. The Yoreiqi woman had cornered the drug lord in a back ally in Arca, and it would seem fate hadn't been on his side that night. Wiping her boot on the now deceased man's jacket, Griselda exhaled and rubbed the bridge of her nose. The man had been selling an opioid that had never been seen on the market before, and it was supposedly so potent that even a minuscule dose could cause an addiction. The amount of revenue this drug had produced caused this particular drug lord to become incredibly wealthy in the span of a a few weeks, so naturally Griselda's boss wanted to know where the source of this drug was so she herself could profit off of it. Unfortunately, Griselda's inability to ask questions had caused the man to take the secret of the drug's production to his grave- so it would appear that she would need to do some detective work so she didn't return empty handed.

Kneeling down, Griselda began to rummage through small satchel the man had been carrying with him. Unsurprisingly, it was full of clutter. A knife, an imported gun, a half eaten sandwich, and a pack of smokes were all tossed aside. Finally, she pulled out a small leather pouch and opened it to see a few dozen bright yellow pills. Figuring that her boss could likely reverse-engineer them, Griselda pocketed them. Dumping out the rest of the bag onto the ground and seeing nothing of interest, she moved onto checking the man's pockets. He had a wallet, but there was only a few loose coins inside. That was odd, as the man had reportedly been making a fortune off of these pills- and the colorful clothing he was wearing suggested that he had been throwing money around as if it was nothing. The shoes alone must have cost him at least 1000 gold...

Griselda smiled as the realization struck her. Taking the man's shoes off, she reached inside and found that there was a hollow compartment in each. The first one had the man's real wallet inside, practically bulging from the amount of money inside. The second one had something infinitely more valuable however- a key. Upon looking at it closer, Griselda could see that numbers had been engraved onto it. What numbers they were, Griselda didn't know- she had never learned how to read as a child, and to her numbers were little more than squiggly lines. However, she did know that the more circles the number had at the end, the more things you could get with it. This number had three circles, so this key was bound to open something good.

Standing up, Griselda pocketed both the wallet and the key. She figured the best place to begin looking for a number that matched the one on the key was in "The Slaughterhouse"- a nickname residents of Arca had given to the most drug ridden area of the city. It was only a few blocks in size, but there was more death and pain there than in the rest of the city combined. Stepping out of the ally and into the street, Griselda began to walk in the direction of the worst slum in Arca, wondering how it would compare to her hometown...

Mostly just some lore/mechanical stuff I want to know.

1. Can you only exit from where you entered, or can the Meeting Place be used for fast travel?
2. Are the locations of the access points publicly known? Or are they hidden?
3. What do the access points look like?
4. Are there people who can use magic to create/repair/disable access points?

I was kinda thinking that a character who could to stuff with the access points and was basically just a magical IT guy would be funny.

Thanks.

Wester Highlands / The Hag's Cauldron (Cinnabar)
March 12, 2017, 08:20:35 PM
"Isn't there anybody here who sells licorice root?"

Eckhart had been in the town of Marshfog for two days now, and none of the shops seemed to sell the reagents he needed. A cut Eckhart had received the other day was starting to show signs of infection, and he knew licorice was supposed to help with that. Searching through the market stalls yielded no results, and the larger apothecaries in town had only the very basics in terms of non-magical ingredients. Eckhart didn't know potion making, so "powdered tusk of morlotte" was unlikely to help him- he'd just stick to poultices and herbal teas. Finally, Eckhart found a small shop in a back alley that he hadn't been in before. He looked at the small wooden sign tacked onto the door.

The Hag's Cauldron

Hesitantly opening the door, he walked inside. The shop was dimly lit, with only a few candles and a small fireplace providing light. Strange looking plants grew from the ceiling, and upon closer inspection Eckhart could see that what he had though was a carpet was in fact moss growing on the floor. Boxes full of odd looking ingredients lined the walls. After a moment, an unnaturaly tall old woman walked out from behind the counter. "Why, hello there dear! Is there anything in particular you're looking for today?" Eckhart stared at her with wide eyes. "Oh fuck, this is literally a hag." Now rather nervous, Eckhart nodded. "Y-yes ma'am, licorice root." The hag seemed to think on this for a moment, and then pointed to one of the boxes with a gnarly finger. "If my memory still serves me correctly, there should be licorice in there. It may have fallen to the bottom though, you may need to rummage to find it." Eckhart smiled a frightened smile, thanked her and began to dig through the box of reagents...

It's worth noting that this Emilia is, in fact, a clone- the original Emilia is trapped inside a void for all eternity.
Spoiler
[close]

Name: Emilia Black-Hearth, currently calling herself "M" (she thinks it's clever)
Age: 26, but her soul is well over 20,500.
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Ethnicity: Unknown, seems to be mixed
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 143 lbs
Occupation: Outcast
Residence: Homeless
Favorite Food: Egg Salad (used to be people but she can't do that anymore)
Alignment: Chaotic Evil

Art by Asukaziye
Character Theme:
Ain't It Fun

Physical Description:
Emilia is a blonde human woman, slightly taller than average. Her eyes are a deep blue, and her skin is very pale- nearly porcelain in appearance. Her bust size is above average. While she used to wear luxurious robes and form fitting armor in her old life, Emilia has since been reduced to wearing an old wizard robe. It was the only outfit she had at her castle that fit- her new body is a few inches taller than her old one. She has the wizard hat to go with it, but she thinks it looks dumb on her.

Emilia carries a wooden sword, a practice weapon she stole from a child. It's made of teak, and is surprisingly durable.

Personality:
Emilia may well be the personification of bitterness. She was once a proud dragon warlord with the world at her fingertips- but just as the blossoms of a cherry tree must wither, so must the fruits of our labor. In order to return from the dead, she had to pay a steep price- Emilia is now a powerless human woman. This has inspired a lot of self loathing and resentment on her part, as Emilia hates humans with a passion. Unwilling to accept that her winds of fortune have changed, Emilia refuses to adapt to her new body, instead relying on the reputation she had as a dragon to get by. She believes her powers will eventually return someday (she's wrong), so why try learning any new skills or methods of self defense? It's easier to just pretend that she's still an all powerful dragon until she returns to her old, glorious self.  Only time will tell if her facade will hold up.
Update: In a shocking twist, Emilia has cast aside her name- she's come to the conclusion that clinging onto it is a hindrance. Simply going by "M" now, she's attempting to keep her head down while she searches for a way to return to her old life. She's still a belittling, condescending ass to everybody she she deems "lesser" than her, though- some things will never change.

Interestingly enough, Emilia's old life was a facade. Despite her claims of being a masterful voidmancer, she in fact had very little control over her near godlike abilities. This is the reason that, despite her claims of plotting world domination, she never actually did anything in her 20,500 years of life. She constantly struggled to maintain the appearance of being in complete control of her powers, and the toll it took on her mental stability was immense. Paranoia and and pathological lying was common, as was bizarre fixations on seemingly irrelevant things. She used to write all of her fears and insecurities in a journal she kept locked in her bedside table.

Emilia is persistent to a fault, and does not know how to recognize when something is hopeless. She genuinely believes that if she can accomplish anything if she tries enough times. She's also incredibly pushy and demanding, and believes her old reputation as a unstoppable force of nature will scare others into complying with what she wants. Emilia would like to think that she's witty, but she's really not.

If you were to dig into her enough, you'd find a very scared, very angry girl who desires control over others in order to feel good about herself. Even deeper than that is a girl who just wants friendship, love, and admiration, but is too broken to understand that the way she treats others prevents these desires from ever becoming a reality. Chances of her ever seeing any error in her ways is slim to zero.

Relationships:
As Emilia is many thousands of years old, she naturally has many enemies, rivals, and allies. However, her closest relationships- be they good or bad- had always been with her family. In order of oldest to youngest, they are as follows:
Characters nobody remembers/cares about

-Electi Black-Hearth- Older brother. Emilia believed he would attempt to betray her some day, and took extreme precautions to make sure he never could. Electi has since disappeared...
-Eira Black-Hearth- Younger sister. Black sheep of the family, Emilia would prefer to act like she doesn't exist.
-Aeizith Black-Hearth- Younger Brother. Emilia tried to mold him into an obedient servant, but he rebelled. It was during Aeizith's rebellion that Emilia's first body was lost, essentially freeing him from her grasp.
-Kaida Black-Hearth- Youngest sister, and the only member of Emilia's family who she actually likes.
[close]

Magic/Abilities:
Emilia once had extremely potent void magic, but that time has since passed. She's now entirely powerless. She knows swordplay in theory, but she never actually had to use the sword she once carried. Her new body is too frail to use the martial arts she knew, as the style she practiced took full advantage of her old body's super strength.

Having read many books in her attempts to control her own powers, Emilia has a lot of knowledge about void magic and the magical theory behind it. Calling her an authority on the subject would be an understatement. This knowledge is situational at best however, as her powers are gone and voidmancers in general are rare. She's also read quite a bit about nihilism, although she herself does not adhere to the ideology.

As disheartening as it may be, fate seems to... favor Emilia. She's managed to worm her way out of every challenging situation she's found herself in, albeit not without injury. Only time will tell is she truly has luck on her side or not.

History:
While Emilia's full story is tens of thousands of years long, the only really important part is how she became what she is now. Her memories of how it happened are foggy, but she had finally lost control of her powers- and in front of her youngest sister no less, shattering the younger dragon's admiration for her. She remembers getting dragged into her own void, screams for help going unanswered, then darkness.

Most of her soldiers disbanded after that, but there was one man who chose to remain. An absolute zealot, he vowed to bring Emilia back no matter the cost to himself or to others. After months of searching, he finally found a way- a golem with the power to copy a person's personality and memories for a short period of time. After paying the golem's master a large sum of money, the soldier managed to set up a complex ritual to move the copy of Emilia's mind and soul out of the golem and into a new, more permanent body. Unfortunately, the only body he could find that looked like Emilia belonged to a powerless human seamstress. Figuring that it would have to do, he preformed the ritual immediately after putting a pair of Emilia's old boots on the golem, giving the clone no say in the matter. As the ritual called for a human sacrifice, the man overzealously killed himself in a final, pointless act of loyalty. The golem master took his servant and left, and the now powerless Emilia was left alone with nothing but an old pair of her boots and a sense of helplessness- an emotion she had never experienced until that moment.

Now she wanders, looking for a way to return to her old life. She's unable to return to her old fortress, as her new body is ill-suited for climbing up the Kilanthro mountains in order to reach it- she discovered this the hard way. Never mind, she made it back- 18th time's the charm. She left soon afterwards though, there was nothing but memories there. What fate has planned for her is unknown...

Zantaric / You Take My Breath Away (Blink)

"This is unacceptable. Absolutely unacceptable." Hildegarde Von Musel thought angrily. A week ago she had received disturbing news- her brother Eckhart had left home. This alone was cause for alarm, but there was more-not only was he developing new powers, but he had accomplished something that Hildegarde hadn't.

Eckhart had fought a Black-Hearth dragon. And won.

Hildegarde was, of course, familiar with the Black-Hearth family. The oldest sister, Emilia, was on Hildegarde's long list of names she wanted to drag through the mud. Emilia was confident, pretty,  and above all, powerful. Knowing that there were beings whose ability and charm made Hildegarde look like an insect by comparison made her uncomfortable, so she plotted and schemed to knock these people off their pedestals. Luckily Emilia had already fallen of her own accord, apparently having gotten destroyed by her own void magic- but there had been grumblings about the possibility of her returning. The thought made Hildegarde shudder.

According to her informants, it had been the youngest Black-Hearth, Kaida, that Eckhart had encountered. Her informants had also discovered some more startling news- the dragon was headed here, to Zantaric. Why she would do this, Hildegarde did not know. This did, however, provide an opportunity to learn more about what both Eckhart and Emilia were up to. If Kaida was expecting Hildegarde to be the one answering questions, she was mistaken.

So here she was, standing in an ally only 20 feet from the city gates. Her best scout, a recent recruit named Ignatius Pratt, was with her. Hildegarde had set everything up perfectly so the dragon would be utterly powerless in her presence- one of the downsides of slaughtering villages for hundreds of years was the numerous reports from survivors detailing exactly what your abilities were. "You think you can just waltz into my city and do whatever you like? You're wrong. I'm in charge here."

"Lady Hildegarde? Carolina says the dragon is approaching the gates." said Ignatius. Hildegarde nodded. "Good. Let's get started, shall we?" Lifting up her hand dramatically, Hildegarde created a wall of n2o in front of the city's entrance. When the dragon arrived, she would pass out.

"Ignatius, you may go. You've been a very big help today, I appreciate it." The boy blushed but he didn't leave. "Before I go, can I ask you if... If you've found any sign of my father?" Ignatius asked, apprehensive yet hopeful. Hildegarde studied him for a second, thinking about his question. Ignatius had joined her orginization under the condition that Hildegarde would use her resources find his father. She had found his father, but Ignatius would never know this. Although annoying, Ignatius was dead useful, and she didn't want to give him any reason to leave her side- and with his father lying at the bottom of the sea, he never would. "I've found a few leads." She told him, a kind smile upon her face. "He'll turn up, don't worry." Ignatius rushed forward and hugged her. "Lady Hildegarde, you're the best!" Laughing, Hildegarde returned the hug.

"I know I am."

Serha Plains / Diamonds Are Forever (SpicySpice!)

Penance sighed loudly as she stared out of the carriage's small window. The beautiful summer day was ruined by the fact that that she couldn't spend it doing what she wanted to do. Why did it have to be today? "It's just not fair!" she thought angrily. "I have to go to this stupid little country fair every year, and for what? To stand there and look pretty for the plebeians to gawk at." Penance turned to her father, who was currently deep in conversation with one of his advisors.

"Father," she interrupted, "Are you sure I have to be here? Isn't there business back at home that I could take care of for you?" Her father sighed, clearly exasperated by his daughter. "Penance, we've talked about this twice today. Part of your duty is making public appearances, it boosts the public's morale." He raised an eyebrow. "Do you plan on staying cooped up in your garden forever?"

Penance scowled at this- she knew her father was right, and she wasn't going to bother arguing with him any further. This did not mean she wouldn't sulk however. There were only thirty minutes left to their trip, and she would remain silent, arms crossed, for the remainder of the ride.

Serendipity Riverlands / The Brass Spider (Blink)
February 14, 2017, 07:01:29 AM
The trip from Southpine to Jadenshine had taken Eckhart roughly five days. On the fourth day he had run out of food (again) and he had been running on fumes for the past 17 hours. Finally, on the side of the road, he saw what looked to be a old farmhouse converted into a restaurant. Eckhart read the sign in front of the door.

The Brass Spider Pub

Eckhart's stomach growled. "Oh thank Ansgar, this is exactly what I needed right now. I hope their prices are good." Walking inside, he sat down at the bar and looked around. The building was packed with colorful travelers, each one more outlandish looking than the last. Well, I suppose that's Serendipity for you. I probably stand out simply by looking so normal." Looking at the menu, Eckhart frowned. "A fish sandwich is seven bits? That's outrageous!" Eckhart's coin pouch only had 46 silver bits, and until he could find a decent source of income he needed to make his funds last. The mashed potatoes were only two bits, so he ordered those instead. As he waited for his food he would continue to look around the pub, watching the patrons tell each other stories of their exploits. The sight of people who clearly had very fun, fulfilling lives made Eckhart depressed.

"I bet all of these people are better than I am." Eckhart thought sadly. "I'm probably the least interesting person here."

_______IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description:
Hoss Goodheart is a muscular girl in her mid-teens. She has sky-blue eyes, and a button nose. Her orange hair is impossible to tame, and she normally wears it pulled back in a messy braid. Her skin is covered in tattoos depicting mundane objects, and from a distance it looks like her entire body has been dyed blue. She wears less armor than your average adventurer would, instead opting to wear a cloth binder and the pelt of a bear she's slain. Hoss has no bags, satchels, or pockets- she doesn't need any.

Hoss smells like a teenager who hasn't bathed in a week (because she probably hasn't, let's be honest).

Personality:
Hoss is everything you'd expect a teenage adventurer to be- stubborn, impulsive, and just a little annoying. She is brash and insensitive, and gets very defensive when called out on it. The girl isn't particularly smart, and large words and complex ideas tend to fly over her head. Hoss's biggest pet peeve is being upstaged, and if she thinks you're trying to steal her thunder she'll get passive agressive.

Hoss is obsessed with self-improvement- a trait born out of a vague desire to be "the best". No matter how good she is at something, she'll refuse to acknowledge her accomplishments and instead push herself to do even better next next time! How she manages to not burn herself out doing this is a mystery.

Hoss hates the name Anne-Marie because, according to her, "it sounds girly". She goes by "Hoss" because she thinks it sounds cooler.

Relationships:
Hoss has a mother, father, and older brother living in Whitesands. They have all been very supportive of her choice to become an adventurer.

Hoss lost a fight to a turquoise dragon about two years ago. Said dragon has since disappeared into the annals of history, but that hasn't stopped Hoss from searching for it...

Magic/Abilities:
Hoss has the ability to store non-magical items inside her body as tattoos. These items will keep their properties while being stored- a candle will stay lit, and food will stay warm.

The curse that gave Hoss this power gave her a weakness as well- her natural weakness to iron is tripled. She cannot touch even trace amounts without suffering from burns and nausea.

Hoss's weapon of choice is a two-handed bronze battleaxe that she uses one-handed- she thinks its badass! Her opponents think it's dumb (and they're right). She's not terrible with it though, and the unconventional use of her weapon does serve to catch people off guard.

History:
Hoss grew up in Whitesands with her parents and older brother. Her childhood was boring, and she spent all of her free time reading fairy tales and adventurer stories. The idealistic young girl romanticized the idea of becoming a hero herself, and when she was fourteen she bought a battleaxe with her birthday money and struck off on her own adventure!

While she had a few early successes defeating bandits and muggers, it only took a few months for Hoss to taste utter defeat. A dragon decided to destroy the village Hoss had been staying in, and Hoss tried to stop her. Needless to say, Hoss failed to defeat the dragon and was barely able to escape with her life. There were no other survivors, and Hoss had no choice but to blame herself for their deaths. Filled with a new determination, she vowed to become stronger- no matter the cost.

In her search for power, she heard tales of a fae in the Draconi Forest who had taken to tricking adventurers by giving them magic powers with severe drawbacks. Deciding that whatever drawback she received would be worth whatever power she got, Hoss found the fae in question and let herself get cursed.

Northern Serendipity / Roads Often Travelled (Blonk)
February 04, 2017, 07:44:53 PM
The air was thick with fog the morning Eckhart left Southpine. He hadn't stayed long, as the encounter with the thing (as Eckhart had taken to calling it) had spooked him more than he was willing to admit. Standing outside the town gate, Eckhart clutched the arrowhead he'd taken out of the thing's leg- now tied around his neck with a leather cord- tightly in his hand. "Well, I suppose I'd better head off."

After about an hour of walking, the fog began to clear. Eckhart could hear the birds sing their morning songs, and the dew on the roadside plants was glistening in the sunlight. "It's actually turning out to be a nice morning" thought Eckhart. "You know, I could get used to Serendipity. There's not enough snow, but this? This more than makes up for it."

Suddenly, Eckhart spotted what appeared to be a small, bright red pond just off the side of the road. "Whoah! Is this a cranberry bog?" Eckhart said out loud. "I've seen them in books, but I never thought I'd see one in person!" Rushing to the bog, Eckhart immediately took a handful of cranberries and shoved them into his mouth- he'd always wanted to try them- and immediately regretted it. "Holy shit, that's sour!" he thought as he spat them out. "Why did I do that?"

"Carolina, are you sure this is a good idea?"

Ignatious Pratt was sitting in the middle of a pentagram, surrounded by lit candles. In his hands was a book titled "Summoning Rituals For Dummies". Carolina the goldfinch was sitting on his shoulder, chirping happily.

"Oh yeah! Demons are super scary, people are bound to think you're cool if you get your own!"

"But doesn't this stuff require selling my soul? I don't want to sell my soul!"

"Relax relax, you can avoid all that stuff if you actually read the fine print of the contract. Just do it!"

Ignatius sighed. He just knew he would end up regretting this.

"Harkon! Valamski Austutita! Demon from beyond the void, reveal yourself!"

Wester Highlands / Shoes Make The Man (Dragonsong) (P)
January 25, 2017, 03:16:21 PM
It was was approaching sundown as Archibald Pewett reached the outskirts of Northoak. The small town was isolated, and when people were isolated they were usually gullible as well. The recent shortage of good lumber suppliers had caused the mill town to have a surprisingly successful season, making this was the perfect place for Archibald to make some easy money. Archibald turned around to face his silent, cloaked companion. The golem had never been good company- or company at all, really- but eight years of traveling with it had caused Archibald to become attached to it.  "Alright bozo, lets find you a new pair of shoes," Archibald said. To the unassuming passerby this may sound like a innocent statement, but reality was often more sinister than it let on.  The golem didn't respond to the statement, but it looked in Archibald's direction- which was enough in Archibald's eyes. With a quiet "Follow me" the man and his construct walked towards the center of town.

Art coming... someday? I dunno I don't care about this guy too much XD
Art courtesy of
Physical Description:
Archibald is a tall, well toned man in his mid-twenties. He keeps his naturally pink hair ("It ain't girly, y'hear?") in a mohawk at all times. His equally striking lavender eyes are kept hidden by a pair of tinted glasses he stole as a child. He wears a studded leather jacked that's been worn out with age (there are six or seven studs missing). The rest of his attire varies, but it usually consists of a sleeveless shirt, a pair of cargo pants, and combat boots.

Personality:
Orphaned at the age of nine, life on the streets has defined Archibald's personalty. Rarely thinking of anybody but himself, his primary motivation in life has always been "get enough money to buy food for tomorrow". He is no stranger to breaking and entering, mugging, and picking pockets. Archibald is a good judge of character, and can single out people who are likely to take pity on him and give him money or food. He's become a very smooth talker because of his tendency to take advantage of people like this. He can also sense when people have bad intentions, and tries to stay away from those who he feels may endanger his safety or his wallet.

Archibald's sense of morality has become calloused, but he's not evil. As conniving, selfish, and untrustworthy as he may be, Archibald will not take an innocent life. Deep down he knows what kind of person losing his parents has turned him into, and he does not want to be responsible for anybody else like him coming into existence. He's very kind to children who are going through what he did, and will give them food and money when he meets them- even if it means he goes hungry that night.

Now that he has a golem that can become other people, he uses it to trick people into giving him money- typically by have the golem become somebody influential or popular and instructing it to ask that person's friends or followers for donations.

Relationships:
The only relationships Archibald has are with alcohol and the golem he stole. He's not sure if the golem has a sense of self or if it just runs on some kind of "instinct", but he treats it like he would a tool- he gets a bit annoyed when people talk about it as if it's human. Despite this, he's grown fond of the golem. He often catches himself talking to it, which embarrasses him

Magic/Abilities:
Archibald has no magic of his own, relying on his wits, his charisma, and his golem to get him out of trouble. He uses a knife in combat, but he prefers not to fight it he can't help it. He has a flintlock pistol imported from Connlaoth, but he rarely uses it due to the scarcity of bullets (he currently only has five).

Archibald carries a large briefcase that he keeps spare shoes in. Every pair of shoes is labeled with the name of who they originally belonged to. People whose shoes he's stolen/been given include:

Name: Doesn't really have one, but Archibald calls it "Bozo"

Gender: It's default form is an "it"
Species: Magical Construct
Ethnicity: Prototype Replica Golem
Height: 5'10" in default form
Weight: 97 lbs. in default form
Occupation: Archibald's Golem
Residence: Travels with Archibald
Favorite Food: It doesn't eat, silly!
Alignment: True Neutral

Clay sculpture created by Reverend Richard Stott

Physical Description:
The replica golem looks like a vaguely human shaped piece of clay. Archibald gave it eyes by poking holes into its head with his fingers- it was just too creepy looking otherwise. Archibald typically makes it wear a hooded cloak so as to conceal the fact that it's not human.

The golem has the consistency and texture of Silly Putty.

Personality:
The golem doesn't really have a personality until it copies somebody.

It does, however, try to keep itself clean for some reason. When it isn't actively following Archibald's orders, it's usually trying to get flecks of dirt or leaves out of it's body.

Relationships:
Archibald is the golem's master, so it follows his orders.

Magic/Abilities:
The replica golem has the unique ability to become a powerless, but otherwise perfect clone of somebody else. This includes copying things such as personality, physical strength, and a limited selection of that person's memories- for all intents and purposes, the golem literally is that person.

For this power to work, the golem must be wearing a pair of shoes belonging to whoever Archibald needs it to become. This transformation will wear off after the golem has walked exactly one mile in the persons shoes- after which it cannot become that person ever again.

History:
Archibald grew up in rough part of Selevea. His parents became casualties of a violent bank robbery when he only nine years old, and as he had no other family to speak of, he was forced to live on the streets. He spent eight years as just another one of Selevea's numerous street urchins, stealing from merchants and unsuspecting travelers in order to eat. That all changed when he decided to be bold and break into somebodies house in order to rob them. Unbeknownst to Archibald, the owner of the house- a proficient golemancer- was still at home. Archibald ended up interrupting a ritual meant to bind an experimental golem to it's creators will, and accidentally became the golem's master. After beating up the man and stealing his valuables, he realized the golem had followed him out of the building with a small handwritten note explaining it's copy ability (whether or not the golem wrote the note itself confuses Archibald to this day).

Naturally, the first thing Archibald did was steal a pair of shoes belonging to the mayor of Whitesand's half of the city, and had the golem use the man's form to extort money from the mayor's secretary. Unfortunately the real mayor walked in while this was happening, and Archibald and the golem ended up having to flee Selevea altogether. Determined to perfect his ability to con people with his new ally, Archibald decided to travel. It's been eight years since that day, and Archibald and the golem have become dangerously competent at their act.

DISCLAIMER
Spoiler
Yes, the golem can become characters belonging to other people. I will never do this without your explicit permission, nor will I try to pressure you into it. If you do let me write a shallow clone of your character, I will keep an open line of communication with you via PMs to make sure I don't write anything you're uncomfortable with.

On the other hand, if you're totally open to the idea of somebody else playing your characters and want to donate a pair of their shoes, that would be awesome of you. Just send me a PM about it and we can discuss it in further detail.

Adela / Penance Marigold, Royal Pain In The Ass
January 03, 2017, 01:52:03 PM
This character is obsolete and I don't play her anymore. Sorry =/

Name: Penance Marigold (she prefers "Lady Marigold", "Miss Marigold", "My Lady", etc.)
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Species: Human
Ethnicity: Adelan
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 130 lbs.
Occupation: Being a lord's daughter
Residence: Adela
Favorite Food: Caviar
Alignment: Lawful Good

Image courtesy of Sedone on Deviantart

Physical Description:
Penance Marigold is drop dead gorgeous- and she looks even prettier with her makeup on. Her eyes are a vibrant green, and her blonde hair reaches her mid-back. Her nose is a bit pointy. She wears very expensive clothing and jewelry, a symbol of her high status. Penance prefers wearing colored stones in her jewelry, as diamonds have become a bit dull to her

Personality:
Penance is a misanthropic bitch. She's incredibly rude and condescending to anybody she considers beneath her- which is generally anybody who doesn't explicitly outrank her in Adela's social hierarchy. She is very pleasant to those who do outrank her- simply out of self preservation mind you- although she can get passive aggressive at times. Needless to say, nobody really likes her.

Penance's hatred of people stems from having to deal with so many of them every day. Despite this- or perhaps because of it- she is incredibly good at understanding why people behave the way they do, and she picks up on social cues and body language better than anybody else she knows. She'd be a skilled manipulator if she wasn't so mean spirited- if she wants to hurt somebody she'd much rather tear their feelings to shreds.

Unlike most people in Adela, Penance does not hold dragons in particularly high regard. She keeps this opinion to herself however, as most would consider it borderline heretical. She pays close attention to politics and current events, as she feels it her responsibility to Adela to be prepared for anything. She often has very outspoken opinions on these topics, and will happily spout off her views on everything from the civil war in Connlaoth to the recent spike in Adela's deer population.

Despite her flaws, she has a few virtuous qualities as well. She's very loyal to her country and to her father's subjects in particular, and will do what is right for them no matter what. She may enjoy hurting other peoples feelings, but nobody deserves to have their lives disrupted or destroyed- even she understands that. She has a great deal of inner fortitude, and those who would try to trade verbal blows with her would find that she can dish it out as well as she can take it. She's also incredibly brave, and would talk back to even the most fearsome dragon without batting an eye. Naturally, this is also her biggest weakness- she has no real means of defending herself.

Relationships:
Penance's only real relationship is with her father, who she cares for dearly. As of Diamonds Are Forever, Penance's father is dead. She has no friends- an unfortunate side effect of being an asshole to everybody you meet.

Penance's mother died during childbirth. Many took this as a sign that the Penance would be the devil's own child- and they really weren't that far off the mark.

Penance owns two slaves, both of whom are absolutely terrified of her.

Magic/Abilities:
Penance has the ability to make plants grow flawless, fully faceted diamonds. The size and cut of the diamonds grown depends on the size and shape of the seeds/fruit of the plant in question. For example, thistle will produce 0.5-1mm stones, whereas a pumpkin vine will grow a pumpkin sized diamond. She is annoyed that she cannot grow princess cut stones- as there are no square fruit. Penance keeps her powers a secret from everybody but her father, as she knows that she'd become the target of kidnapping attempts if people knew she could make them rich beyond their wildest dreams.

Penance reads people incredibly well, a trait she picked up from growing up around Adela's political class. If somebody has a hidden motive, she will pick up on it.

History:
The daughter of one of Adela's nobles, Penance grew up in a large mansion in the southwest corner of of the country. Her life has been fairly uneventful, and the only excitement she gets is when she accompanies her father to Ketra for his yearly meeting with the King and Queen.

Serendipity Riverlands / Maladies Most Unusual (COMPLETE)
December 24, 2016, 02:09:55 PM
In a small riverside town in Jadenshine, Eckhart Von Musel perused the dusty shelves of an old library. He was looking for books about life magic, hoping he'd be able to use them to learn some new spells- as Eckhart's abilities seemed to have stagnated after he learned how to stop bleeding. So far he wasn't having any luck, as the few books the library had on the subject were ones he had already read. Eckhart sighed as he picked up a large book titled The Healer's Handbook and put it back down. "Nope, I've read that one too." It was true that Eckhart had read most of the widely published books on life magic, but smaller libraries like this one sometimes had older, rarer books available. Like, for instance, the small, beat up book he had just spotted jammed in between two much larger tomes. Curious, Eckhart painstakingly removed the book from where it was stuck and looked at the front cover.

Curing the Cursed: A Guide to Maladies Most Unusual

Upon opening it, Eckhart realized he had struck gold. The book was clearly hand written, meaning it was likely one of a kind. Flipping through the pages, he spotted quite a few things that interested him- namely herbal remedies for ailments that you'd normally need an alchemist or priest to cure. "Curing lycanthropy? Removing curses? Stopping a demonic possession? Holy shit this is crazy, who wrote this?" Looking at the cover again, he saw only the letters V. O.

Thanking V. O. profusely in his head, he took the book to the librarian to check it out, only to discover that the library had no record of the book in their massive filing cabinet. Incredibly upset that a book had escaped her meticulous filing system, the librarian snapped at Eckhart and told him that he could keep the unusual book.
