Gender: Male
Species: Human
Ethnicity: Serenian
Height: 5' 5"

Occupation: Tag-along Friend
Residence: Zantaric, unless Hildegarde needs him somewhere else (Currently bumming around Serendipity)
Favorite Food: Blueberries

What Ignatius Believes His Character Theme Is:
Sabotage
Spoiler
His Real Character Theme:
Walk
[close]

Physical Description:
Ignatius is a scrawny kid with pale skin and grey eyes. His normally bright red hair is dyed pitch black. He usually wears a leather jacket and trousers that are a bit too skinny for him. He wears black eye shadow, and gets mad when people mock him for it.

Ignatius always has birdseed in his pocket

Personality:
Ignatius tries his hardest to look "cool". He does this by putting an edgy, extreme persona. Deep down he's just a regular teenager who wants attention and validation. He thinks he's okay with all of the gruesome bits of being a gang member, but unless pressed he'll shy away from killing people. He still has a heart, though he brags that he doesn't. He really hates it when people call him "Iggy".

Ignatius has a genuine interest in poetry, and often can be found reading books of poems in his spare time.

Relationships:
Ignatius has a "pet" goldfinch named Carolina who he can communicate telepathically with. Carolina is his best friend, but she's a bad influence on him.

Ignatius has a mom and stepfather who love him very much, but he ran away from home because he thought they didn't. His dad disappeared after divorcing his mom, and Ignatius hasn't seen him since then.

Ignatius idolizes Joan O'Reilly, and apes her mannerisms in his attempts to look cool. The only reason he joined the friends, really, is because she was a member.

Magic/Abilities:
Ignatius has the power to carbonate liquid. He's too afraid of his own powers to use them, to the point where he starts hyperventilating if he sees a mug of foaming beer because it reminds him of what he can do.

Ignatius has a butterfly knife. He's pretty good at doing tricks with it, but his actual combat skills are lacking.

Ignatius can communicate telepathically with his pet bird, although he isn't sure why.

History:
Ignatius had a fairly normal childhood. When he was 12, his parents split up, and Ignatius's father disappeared. He hated his new stepfather, who would try a bit too hard to attempt to connect with Ignatius. Ignatius began to wear black cloths and eye shadow, much to the confusion of his mom and stepdad. He also began to shut himself inside of his room, only coming out so he could take long walks in the woods alone. On one of these walks he met a goldfinch who- somehow- could talk to him inside his head. The bird followed him home, and the two eventually became best friends.

When Ignatius was 15, his parents attempted to talk to him about how he never spent time with them anymore, and how they were getting worried. A long argument ensued, and Ignatius accidentally used his powers in a fit of anger, nearly killing his stepfather. Horrified by what he had done, Ignatius ran away from home that night, taking only Carolina with him.

After a week of starving on the streets, the boy and his bird found salvation in the form of Joan O'Reilly. Well, kinda- really they just thought she was cool and pestered her until she finally agreed to take them in. The two joined The Friends after that, working odd jobs the others didn't want to do.

Temple of Ash / Griselda Goes on a Treasure Hunt (Open!)
November 28, 2016, 12:10:07 PM
Griselda blustered through the jungle clumsily, mildly annoyed. Her wings kept getting caught on tree branches, something she had never experienced in the city she grew up in. Thinking angry thoughts about fire and pesticides, Griselda continued onward.

Griselda was only here because her boss, Hildegarde, told her to come. According to one of Hildegarde's informants there was some sort of magic bell miles beneath the the ground, hidden in a maze of catacombs. Said bell was rumored to amplify the magical power of whoever rang it, so naturally, Hildegarde wanted it. However, the informant also claimed that the temple the catacombs were connected to was inhabited by a strange religious group. In order to avoid being seen by them, Griselda had been instructed to find an alternative entrance that was supposedly hidden beneath a tree shaped like the letter "H".

Finally, she found it. At least, she assumed this was it. Griselda couldn't read very well, and had trouble remembering which letters looked like what. "H" was the one that looked like two people holding hands, right? Shrugging, she began poking around on the ground looking for a opening of some sort...

__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description:
Griselda is an extremely large woman, even by Yoreiqi standards. Her dark skin is calloused and covered in scar tissue, and her body has been toned from years of getting into fights with strangers. Her large wings are a dull, lifeless shade of brown  Her clothes are tattered- not because she can't afford new ones, but rather because she seems to like how it looks. Griselda wears a button that says "Hello! My name is: Griselda!"

Griselda is mute. She hasn't been able to produce any noise for as long as she can remember, and she never bothered learning sign language or any basic writing skills- the orphanage she grew up in couldn't afford a tutor, and she was too impatient to try to learn on her own.

Personality:
Griselda's personality is really, really hard to pin down. The woman rarely wears her true emotions on her sleeve. She will show exaggerated emotions in order to communicate (smile means yes, frown means no, etc.) but these don't normally reflect how she feels. She'll occasionally show a genuine smile when something is funny to her, but this is rare and nobody really understands her sense of humor anyway. It's incredibly hard to gain her trust, and most people are too freaked out by the giant woman with wings to try.

Griselda has a large collection of wanted posters- she'll actually judge a person's worth by the number of zeros on their bounty. She loves animals, and will go out of her way to feed any strays she comes across.

Relationships:
Griselda is second in command of the Friends, and has a strong bond with all of them. She's very close to Hildegarde, who was actually the one who named her "Griselda"- the woman couldn't exactly tell her what her name really was (and if she could, she wouldn't know how to pronounce it). Hildegarde tends to confess all her insecurities to her- after all, Griselda can keep a secret better than anybody.

Griselda is extremely protective of both Tiffany Starbrite (who she may or may not have a thing for) and Joan O'Reilly (her best friend). She'd really like them to work out their differences- whatever argument they're having has gone on for way too long.

Magic/Abilities:
Griselda punches things really hard. She has a pair of brass knuckles that she wears 24/7- she never knows when she may end up in a brawl. She's also unable to convey that the one on her left hand has been stuck there for 3 years.

Griselda can use her wings to glide, but she's too heavy to remain airborne for more than 10 minutes on her own. When she does attempt to fly it's very slow and clumsy.

Griselda has a near perfect photographic memory. The usefulness of this is severely limited by her inability to convey what she has seen in the past.

History:
Griselda's parents were Yoreiqi tourists who didn't realize how dangerous coming to Zantaric would be. They were killed by muggers, and in the scuffle the infant Griselda's vocal cords got damaged. It took two hours for somebody to find her, because her crying now only made an odd grunting sound. She grew up in the town orphanage, and powered through the bullying that came from the other children through violent means. The owners of the orphanage couldn't pronounce the name that had been in her parents passport, so they simply called her "muffin", something Griselda hated.

As she grew older, Griselda became more violent, often getting into fights for little to no reason. She never really saw this as a problem, and considered it to be normal. Upon leaving the orphanage she took to mugging people in back alleys and acting as hired muscle for a living. Needless to say people feared her, and she gained a reputation as being an unstoppable monster. This reputation caused an upstart gang leader, Hildegarde Von Musel, to seek her out.  Griselda was used to gang leaders attempting to recruit her, but something about this girl was different. Hildegarde acted like she understood Griselda, and to top it off she never once had to guess what Griselda was trying to convey with wild hand gestures and crude dirt pictures. Once Hildegarde called her "Griselda" because "It sounds pretty and tough- just like you!", Griselda was sold. She is currently Hildegarde's top lieutenant, and would happily give her life if it meant Hildegarde would be happy.

Hildegarde Von Musel sat in the corner of a seedy bar in Zantaric. Her frilly pink dress made her stick out like a sore thumb, but she didn't care. This was her territory, and everybody in the bar knew it. Her eyes brightened as her two lieutenants stepped into the establishment and sat next to her.

"Griselda! Forrest! It's so good to see you!" Hildegarde said with a smile. Griselda's face remained expressionless, but Forrest blushed as he mumbled something to the tune of "It's good to see you too." Good, blushing meant admiration. Hildegarde decided to cut right to the chase. "You know that mage with the big hat? He's been annoying me lately. He's so disrespectful, you wouldn't even believe what he said to me the other day."

The mage with the big hat hadn't actually said anything to her at all. He was an elf, and he had been in Zantaric since before it was overrun with criminals. He had given Hildegarde a disapproving look when he passed her in the street the other day, and Hildegarde felt that she should stop him there before he decided to voice any opinions he might have of her. She would not tolerate any dissent, no matter how small.

"Anyway, I think we should teach him a lesson in respect. He lives in that big mansion in the older part of town, we're going to break in tonight and rearrange some things. Griselda, I need you to mobilize our most intimidating men and have them be in position in 5 hours."  Griselda left without a word, and Hildegarde turned to Forrest. "Forrest, I need you to make sure our friend isn't in the house when we get there. He's a very powerful mage, and he may make things more difficult for us then they need to be.  This is so important, and you're the only one I can trust to pull it off."

This was a lie, Hildegarde was sure that Griselda would have been able to do this job with no trouble. She didn't want to pass up the chance to instill even more loyalty into Forrest however, so she continued. "Can I count on you?"  Forrest's eyes lit up and nodded hurriedly. "Yes- yes of course Miss Hildegarde!" He proceeded to rush out of the bar, accidentally knocking a table over in the process. Hildegarde laughed and signaled to the bartender to let it slide. This was going to be such a good day.

Plotting Center / Eckhart & Co. Plotting Thread
November 16, 2016, 05:01:04 AM
Eckhart and Kino travel south

Welp, I didn't expect to get a party of 5 people in my thread. I normally just write by the seat of my pants without plotting anything, but with this many people I figured we needed one of these threads so we coordinate with each other. "I wont be able to post until 8PM today" and "Do you mind if my character one-shots this monster", stuff of that nature. I'd like everybody's characters to get a chance to shine!

Anyway, we got a really good party; a healer, an alchemist, a mage, and two rangers is pretty balanced. We're all roughly the same power level with the exception of Morgan's character, who if I'm not mistaken is unable to use her powers consciously so it wont be a real issue. This should work out awesomely!

One last thing. should I close the thread to new people since we now have a party of five, or should I leave it open?

Character Theme:
Evil Friends

Physical Description:
Hildegarde is a slender young woman with shoulder length blonde hair and brown eyes. She typically wears a very striking pink dress, and always tries her best not to get it dirty.

Personality:
Narcissistic to a fault, Hildegarde Von Musel lives off of the attention of others. She craves admiration, and this desire forms the motivation for nearly everything she does. Hildegarde also happens to be a gang leader in Zantaric, which makes her desire for everybody to admire her a bit difficult.  She's got the whole "quirky lovable criminal" shtick down though, and even most rival gangsters have some modicum of respect for her- if only for how quickly she managed to make a name for herself.

Hildegarde's success can be attributed to two things, the first of which is her magic. Her ability makes her obnoxiously powerful, and it's incredibly difficult- if not outright impossible- to fight her head on. She uses this as a crutch, and is fully aware that she's nothing without her powers.

This is where her real strength- her ability to make friends- comes into play. While she genuinely enjoys the company of others, her motivation for making friends goes deeper than a desire for companionship- Hildegarde believes that there's power in friendship. Friends are invaluable. You don't need to threaten or coerce them into helping you, because true friends will stand by each other no matter what.

On a personal level Hildegarde is friendly, if not a bit conceited. She can be surprisingly silly as well, as she has a very goofy sense of humor. She puts on a show of being "the lesser evil" compared to the other gangsters in Zantaric, but it's all an act- she doesn't truly care for anybody who isn't one of her "Friends". She actually does have a very loose sense of morality, but she'd never admit that to anybody.

Underneath the zany persona she puts on, Hildegarde is a deeply flawed person. She has anger issues, and can be sent into a white-hot rage very easily. She's very impulsive, and will often make stupid decisions without thinking them through. She's ridiculously petty as well, going to absurd lengths to get back at people for slighting her. Hildegarde is terrified of rejection, and she has frequent nightmares in which her friends all abandon her.

Relationships:
Hildegarde has been completely disowned by her parents, a fact that haunts her to this day.

Hildegarde has incredibly complicated feelings for her younger brother Eckhart. She had put him through a lot of emotional abuse when they lived together- her attempt at keeping him from outshining her. These days she recognizes that what she did was wrong- not for moral reasons mind you, but because she realizes that friendship is more effective than abuse if you want to keep a person in line. Update: They patched things up! They're a bit awkward around each other still, but that's to be expected.

Terrence Limethroat is Hildegarde's boyfriend. A lot of people think it's kinda weird she's dating a teenager, but she ignores them.

Magic/Abilities:
Hildegarde has the ability to remove oxygen around her within a range of ten feet. She herself does not need oxygen to breath. She can also transmutate oxygen into other gaseous elements (chlorine, neon, etc.) and manipulate them at a range of 30 feet.

Hildegarde also has the ability to breath freely- poisons and toxins have no affect on her. She can also survive in any atmosphere, or lack thereof.

History:
Where did Hildegarde even come from? She just kinda... showed up in Zantaric a few years ago and suddenly had people following her. Some people say she's an exiled Connlaothian noble, others say she's an Arcan criminal who'd been driven out by the Soot Wolves. Some people even think she's not human!

Whoever she is, Hildegarde managed to carve a name for herself remarkably quickly. Her organization, The Friends, grew from being a tiny street gang to controlling a sizable portion of Zantaric in little more than a year. These days her criminal enterprise has been creeping out of the city bit by bit, testing the waters for a larger empire...

Her *actual* backstory
Hildegarde was the golden child of the Von Musel family. She always behaved, always did her chores on time, and her parents favored her because of this. Her younger brother looked up to her, and tried his hardest to impress her. She treated him with indifference, which only made him try harder.

As she grew older and discovered her powers, she began using them to help others. She liked the positive attention she got from putting out fires and incapacitating criminals by de-oxygenating the air around her.  She also liked how proud it made her parents, and she was soon acting as a bodyguard for the richer Hyoitian citizens. That made her popularity skyrocket, and she got completely hooked on the admiration people had for her.

When she was 15, an icicle fell off her roof and impaled her arm. Eckhart discovered his powers by accident when he panicked and healed her through sheer dumb luck.  Initially grateful, she soon saw how their parents were praising Eckhart and grew jealous. Fearing that he may end up surpassing her in their eyes, she took it upon herself to destroy her little brother's self esteem so he wouldn't be able to use his powers effectively.  It worked, and three years of put-downs took their toll on Eckhart's mental state.  He's currently a total mess.

When Hildegarde was 18, she fell in love with a handsome young trapper. After stalking him for about a week, she made her move and cornered him in a bakery. Then something happened that Hildegarde had never experienced before- he rejected her. She couldn't make sense of it, how could he not want her? She was perfect in every way, how could this be happening? In a rage, she attempted to use her powers to suffocate the man, only to attract the attention of the local guards. Realizing that she had just destroyed her reputation, she fled, crying, back to her childhood home. To her great shock, her parents were despondent. "We didn't raise a killer" they said. Completely broken, she decided she only had one option left.  If she was a criminal now, then she was going to be the perfect criminal. She'd start a new life in Zantaric, they liked criminals there. She could still make it all work!

Right?

Wester Highlands / Eckhart and Kino travel south (closed)
November 04, 2016, 09:44:51 AM
Eckhart and Kino walked through a willow forest in Fallial, taking in the sights. It had been three days since they fled Darken Vei, and the two travelers had kept a low profile since then.  As Eckhart walked he realized that despite having traveled together for a few days, he barely knew Kino. She was an odd person, never saying more than he had to unless it was to make a sarcastic joke. She certainly never revealed anything about herself, although to be fair, neither had Eckhart. He supposed he had been waiting for her to start. She had also put the plague doctor gear back on, and seemed to have some kind of attachment to the mask in particular. She never took it off, even when she ate or slept. Eckhart briefly wondered if she took it off when she bathed, and then got red in the face and stopped thinking about it.  Deciding he'd had enough of the mystery, he mustered up the courage to ask Kino directly.

"Um, uh, Kino?"
"That was a great start Eckhart" he thought. "Get it together man."
"Kino, why do you wear that mask? You seem really attached to it"."
#188
Having made it through the mountains with the help of the swordsman Gawfy, Eckhart walked slowly through a field of flowers in Darken Vei. It was mid morning, and the dew was beginning to dry.  Eckhart's arm was still sore from the fight with the trolls and he was looking for arnica flowers, which he knew helped with muscular pain.  His eyes lit up when he saw a patch of yellow flowers, but when he bent down to get a closer look, he found something much more interesting.  A small black bottle, about the size of Eckhart's thumb, containing some sort of sludgy liquid inside. Eckhart took the cap off the bottle and smelled it, and quickly recoiled when he found it smelled like seal piss.

"What the hell is this?" Eckhart thought.

Taking a generous sample of the arnica flowers and putting them in his bag, he began to head in the direction of the inn he was staying at.

Wants and Limits / Eckhart's wants and limits
November 02, 2016, 10:59:51 AM
PLAYER WANTS

What are your favorite kinds of plots and relationships to play?
I like intrigue, fun adventures, and slice of life stories. I'm a huge fan of continuity and overarching plots, so I try to build characters around them. Threads are just chapters in a bigger story for me.

What are your least favorite kinds of plots and relationships to play?
Romance. I'm really not interested in pairing off any of my characters, although if you really think your character is perfect for one of mine I suppose you could PM me. (I will probably share this PM with all my friends so we can laugh at it. Just a heads up.)

What are your favorite character types to play?
Anything. Like, anything. Talking vultures, preteen drug dealers, a parasitic colony of insects controlling a human corpse, etc. I have one "normal" character, and he's literally so normal that he blends into the background and becomes invisible.

I do fill the somewhat rare niches of playing as children and animals, so if you were looking for somebody to do that then I'm probably your guy.

Are you a planner or a pantser? Do you prefer to pre-plan and stick to a script when posting, or do you prefer to surprise and be surprised?
Don't count on me to stick to plans. I've accidentally dismantled major plot arcs because my characters decided to misbehave.

How do you feel about group threads?
I need to mesh with everybody in the thread or else it won't work.

How often can you reply to any given thread? How long should a partner wait before nudging you for a post?
I have a full time job and a lot of other threads, so I can typically reply once every few days. I start to feel guilty if I make people wait more than a week.

What is the longest you're willing to wait for a reply to a thread?
Months.

How do you feel about instant messenger RP?
I've never tried it, but it sounds a bit too fast-paced for me

How do you feel about post volleying/rapidfire RP?
I really don't have the time.

What's your preferred posting style? Long posts? Short posts? Anything and everything?
Depends. I usually average 2-3 paragraphs, though I'll make longer ones if the situation calls for it (like if I'm writing multiple characters at once, which I do pretty frequently). I avoid one liners except for a few plot specific instances (dramatic effect, gags, etc).

Any RP styles/habits that you love?
Overarching plots and shorter threads are my bread and butter. Weird characters, fun magic powers, and interesting settings are all things I like as well.

Any RP styles/habits that you avoid?
Please, please give me something I can work with. If you don't add to the plot on your own and only have your characters react to what I write, I may silently drop out. Sorry, I just can't deal with that, it's annoying and I hate it.

Also, there's this thing that some people do where their character somehow ends up having multiple simultaneous conversations with mine? If you know what I'm talking about, don't do it.

PLAYER LIMITS

What are you limits regarding powerplay/godmoding?
Unless you're going to do something character destroying I don't care if you do this. It's your prerogative. With that being said, PVP is not something I enjoy writing unless the winner is plotted out beforehand- otherwise it usually turns into the equivalent of kids on the playground yelling "I shot you! You're dead!" "Nuh-uh! The bullets reflected!"

What are your limits in regards to romantic situations?
I'd need to know you incredibly well in order for me to write this with you. Short answer is no romance from me. Sorry if I killed your ship by saying this XD

What are your limits with regards to graphic content such as sex, violence, drug use, sexual assault, etc? What is your comfort level?
I'm cool with most violence and gore- god knows I've written some gross stuff in my time here.

I don't do ERP. It's not something I enjoy writing, and I can't be sure my threading partner isn't typing one-handed.

What are your limits in regards to pregnancy within plots?
This has always struck me as kind of a weird thing to have on this form tbh. I guess as long as the child doesn't belong to my character, we're good.

What about healing?
It's fine unless you wanted to heal a character who's defined by whatever ails them (you can't fix my mute character's vocal chords for example).

What about characters being transformed against their will?
No.

Anything else?
I have a legitimate fear of vampires. I know they aren't real, but the entire concept terrifies me. If you have a vampire character I ask that you keep the actual vampire stuff to a minimum while threading with me. Sorry if that's inconvenient or anything, I just can't deal with it.

Eckhart Von Musel gingerly hiked down a steep mountain path. "Maybe this was a mistake" he thought to himself.  He had made it through the tundra just fine, he was used to trekking through the snow. But mountains? Mountains he could do without.  After stumbling and nearly falling into a gorge, he reached a considerably less steep area and stopped to rest. Looking at his surroundings, he noticed a juniper bush a few paces away. "Nice!" he thought. He had read about using juniper berries to help clear up congestion, but seeing as the berries didn't grow on the tundra he had never had an opportunity to try it himself.  As he went to put a sample of the berries in his backpack, he made a discovery that caused him to panic.

He only had one dried fish left

Damnit damnit damnit damnit damnit! Eckhart began to realize that he could very well be screwed. He knew the juniper berries he just found function as a sedative, and he'd need his wits about him in order to make it down the mountain. He didn't know how to hunt, and even if he did, what was he going to do? Chase down rabbits with his shortsword?

No, the only option was to try and make it down the mountain and find a town before he ended up starving to death. Grumbling under his breath about how stupid he was, he resumed his trek down the mountain.

Character Theme:
Creep in a T-Shirt

Physical Description:
Eckhart is a thin, blonde young man with brown eyes. He typically wears hand-me-down fur clothing that's a bit too large for him, which gives him the appearance of being larger and heavier than he really is. He wears a arrowhead around his neck, held in place by a thin leather cord. His jacket belonged to a sailor at some point, and it smells a bit like fish. His jacket was damaged beyond repair during a fight with an assassin. He now wears a wool cardigan.

Eckhart wears a single feather earring on his left ear, a memento from the day he fought a dragon. It's the most valuable thing he owns, and he's incredibly attached to it.

Eckhart carries a warhammer with him when he travels, although he isn't very good with it and could be beaten easily by anyone with any training or innate ability.

Personality:
The victim of emotional abuse growing up, Eckhart has some serious issues. He's incredibly skittish, and gets very nervous when he has to talk to new people. He's rather paranoid as well, and it's not uncommon for him to think the people he meets are secretly evil and out to kill him (though to his credit, his fear of people being out to get him has been vindicated more than once). He fiddles with his necklace when he gets nervous, and has a tendency to say "um" and "uh" a lot.

On a personal level Eckhart is a fairly quiet, although if you approach him on a topic that he is interested in- such as medicine or rare diseases - he will open up to you. Eckhart enjoys treating people's wounds, though it's more because he likes the feeling of power it gives him than because of any innate love of helping others. That isn't to say he's not compassionate, he just saves his compassion for people he knows well.  He has very prudish views on sexuality and romance, due to the influence his Connlaothian grandparents had on his upbringing.

Eckhart holds grudges easily, and sometimes resorts to petty means to get back at people who he feels have wronged him. This is a trait he picked up from his sister, and Eckhart is trying to become more forgiving of people because of what she has become. Welp, looks like he may be starting to embrace it now.

Relationships:
Eckhart has an older sister named Hildegarde who has been completely disowned by the family due to her parents disapproval of her career choice (she's a crime lord). Hildegarde put Eckhart through hell in his youth, and the effect it had on his life is very, very visible. He's not quite sure how he feels about her, but he can't bring himself to not love her. UPDATE: They patched things up! They're a bit awkward around each other still, but that's to be expected.

Eckhart has a familiar, a cat named Belladonna. The two have a very odd relationship- she essentially kidnapped him and is now forcing him to help her rescue her previous master. Despite this, Eckhart has grown to genuinely care for her and relies on her for emotional support.

Kino Vanden is Eckhart's best friend. They don't get to see each other very often, but he's always happy when they do.

Is Kaida Black-Hearth his friend? (Enemy)? Rival? It's really hard to tell.

Eckhart retains good relationships with his parents and grandparents, and visits them on holidays.

Magic/Abilities:
Eckhart has healing magic! It's very... odd, though- as if he needs to do all of his healing manually. For example, he can't simply close a wound with his magic- he needs to clot the blood and regenerate the cells individually. He's still a beginner too- he can't even fix broken bones yet! Powers he's developed so far include:

  • Regenerating cells
  • Clotting/unclotting blood
  • Congealing earwax (don't ask why he knows this, it's a long story)
  • Messing with the nervous system (this is very difficult, and every time he's tried he's fucked it up and made things worse)

Eckhart is the current owner of Maladies Most Unusual, a one of a kind text containing "forbidden" herbal remedies for normally difficult to cure ailments such as vampirism and lycanthropy. Said remedies will only work if the person making them has read the book, and many of them are dangerous if gotten wrong. Eckhart has mixed feelings about Maladies, and tries not to use it too often.

Eckhart is- surprisingly enough- proficient at cooking and sewing. He's also fairly skilled at haggling, something he picked up in order to afford food and clothing growing up

History:
Eckhart is a third generation Connlaothian immigrant. His grandparents were run out of their home country after it was discovered they had been using magic to harvest their crops more efficiently. Eckhart and his sister Hildegarde had a fairly normal childhood, free of any major tragedies.

When Eckhart was 14 his sister was caught using her air magic in an attempt to kill a well-respected trapper. She escaped from the authorities but when she tried to take refuge with her parents she was disowned and ostracized.  Eckhart has not had any contact with Hildegarde since she left, and all attempts to convince his parents to reach out to her have failed miserably.  Hildegarde is now a wanted criminal residing in Zantaric, and is known to be responsible for several murders.

At age 18, Eckhart moved out of his parents home and into a run down hut on the outskirts of town. It was around this time that Eckhart began to use his healing powers to treat people's wounds. After figuring out that there were things he can't heal with magic yet, he set off on a journey to learn as many cures and remedies as he could.
