Physical Description
Jaz is darker skinned, a sort of nut-brown tan is her default skin tone, with large, expressive jewel green eyes. Her red auburn hair is kept bobbed under her chin, framing her finely shaped cheekbones and full lips.

Of an average height, she has a rather full figure and lean but distinct muscles. She tends to dress for practicality and comfort over style, but she does prefer to wear long gloves when at all possible- she knows too well the kinds of magic that can be performed through the touch of skin to skin.

Personality
Sharp witted and sharp tongued, Jaz is nonetheless at heart a gentle soul. She is dedicated and inventive, good at thinking on her feet and adapting to most any situation However, her real joy lies in simple pleasures: a good book, a quiet place to rest, and especially those rare moments in her life when she can sit and draw whatever strikes her fancy.

That said, a rather harsh life has forced Jasper to harden herself to the world. She keeps her emotions on lock down and does her best to remain as innocuous as possible in the world around her. She's become quite adept at hiding in plain sight.

Magic/Abilities
Like many Adelans, Jaz has a beastspeaking ability. It's not particularly strong, but it allows her basic communication with most animals she meets. She particularly likes cats.

Additionally, she has a powerful gift of sorcery; she can perform spells from a book or taught to her by ear with very little practice, but the problem is her power can be a little (a lot) unpredictable. If her emotions overrule her logic, her spells can backfire, or even spark off randomly.

Perhaps of note: to cast spells verbally, Jaz was taught to invoke in a "personal" language. She's cobbled together a serviceable language that is a combination of Ancient Adelan and Sylvan for this purpose.

Relationships
None that matter

History
Born to a whore in a lower district of Ketra, Jaz spent most of her childhood trying not to be underfoot in the brothel, which meant she spent a good deal of time in and out of back alleys, scrapping with other street urchins and learning how to hustle and pickpocket.

Her beastspeaking ability was apparent before she could even talk (she loved animals and they seemed to return the sentiment, often flocking to her), but her more "traditional" magic didn't show itself until she was ten. She got into an argument with her mother when the women tried to shoo her out of their room so she could take a customer. Her frustration manifested in a blast of arcane power than knocked them both off their feet and shattered the mirror.

Jaz's mother was horrified, shrieking that her daughter needed to control herself or leave. Jasper took the later option. Her magic was a chance, as far as she was concerned, an escape from the life she'd assumed she'd eventually lead.

So she ran away, traveling Ketra in search of someone who could teach her. No one seemed willing to take on a street urchin as an apprentice, but she eventually ran into a merchant who offered to take her to Serendipity where she might have better prospects.

Three months later, she was apprenticed to Ildis Renn, a powerful but rather anonymous mage who lived toward the norther border of Serendipity. She learned fast, and she learned a lot, eagerly drinking up any new information her master threw at her. Her power seemed to grow with every passing day, and she lived for the small smiles and hair ruffles Ildis would give her in praise.

But the sorcerer had a secret. On the day Jasper has chosen as her birthday, the day she turned sixteen, she stumbled upon a strange notebook in a back corner of his study. It detailed...odd rituals. Dark rituals, calling for blood and sacrifice and speaking of raising an army of the dead. Starting to panic, Jasper searched the house with both street sense and magic and came across more and more damning evidence.

It was clear now that the man she'd come to respect and admire was practicing almost unthinkably dark magic. Terrified, Jasper fled his home and made her way to Arca, hoping desperately she could contact someone who would bring him to task for his crimes.

She was too late. By the time she arrived in the city, Ildis had sent a message ahead describing her treachery; he claimed she was the one practicing evil magic, and that when he'd confronted her she fled. He was trying to warn the people, he said. Taking her in alive was convenient, but not necessary.

Now hunted on two fronts, Jasper had to make a quick decision. In an effort to evade both Serenian law and Ildis himself, she fled to Connloath- the last place any right-minded mage would go.
