ISLA

Isla looked down through the dark waters of the Hivan Ocean and saw that she could go no further. With her 50 feet serpentine body, she would be detected or beached helplessly if she swam any closer to the beaches of Thanatos. She exhaled through her snout, blowing large bubbles before mentally girding herself for the pain to follow. As she began the shift from sea serpent to human, the pain almost made her stop. But nothing would make her face her family in disgrace, not even the agonizing pain of transforming a powerful sea serpent to the useless human form she would carry for the next 5 years.

Isla clamped her toothy maw shut as scales transformed to a fleshy membrane, talons to fingers, and dorsal fins to teal-colored hair. And as the shift completed, she floated aimlessly in the ocean in despair. She would be stuck in this weak flesh for the next 5 years, she couldn't stop her heart from screaming in agony. Isla shook herself mentally and swamn clumsily to the surface, unused to the feeling of air rushing into burning lungs. Even with the week of training where she learned the basics of shifting, walking, and swimming in human form, she felt hopelessly inadequate.

Isla pushed her awkward limbs with force as the cold salt water slid against her in a new way. While her new limbs and organs threatened to burst in agony, Isla ignored them as she fought her way towards the shore. And when sand squished between her tones, she simply sighed and carried on, unwilling to lose momentum she reached the beach. As her shoulders broke through the water and her body slowly rose more and more out of the ocean, she was amazed at how different the breeze felt against her. As a serpent, scales covered the body in a sense that wind was never felt unless at harsh conditions. But now she could feel ever touch against her and she squirmed uncomfortably as she continued her trek.

Isla stopped suddenly, eyeing a strange thing that seemed to be pulled up on the beach. It resembled the small boats that ships carried on the sides of their vessels but this one was much smaller in comparison. She warily worked her way toward the strange thing, noticing that it was filled with...things. They were circular and looked to the touch although she had no idea what they actually were.

Isla picked one up, only to jump back when the thing collapsed, partially hitting the water that rose upon the sands. It was then that she realized the circular object was a bundle of what humans use to protect their body. Remembering her mother stating that the humans constantly covered themselves in other things, Isla quickly put on the objects that covered her from...feet to...neck? She still wasn't sure what they were called but she instantly felt warmer with these things covering her.

Isla walked slowly and awkwardly about 30 feet away from the beached boat, nearly collapsing into the sand. She laid back, letting the tide rise up to her, letting it comfort one last time before she ventured into the world of man. She closed her large, golden eyes with her teal hair spread about her, trying relax herself this last night by the sea.
