Physical Description
Technically, Never doesn't really have a physical description.

Their seemingly unique ability as a shapeshifter is that they are not actually a shapeshifter-- they just appear to be.

Every person who sees Never sees them differently, and what they see is their ideal version of a human being, whatever they are most aesthetically attracted to: tall, willowy, blonde; short and stocky with russet red hair and bright green eyes; broad-shouldered and lean-muscled, black hair and tanned skin-- anything. Whatever that particular person wants to see.

Never maintains that they don't actually change anything about themselves; and really how could they, when two people could be looking at them at the same time and both would see an entirely different person?

When Never looks in the mirror-- well. If they see something specific, they're not telling.

Personality
Form shapes nature, as the saying goes. Just as Never's physical appearance is different to everyone who sees it, they tend to be a personality-chameleon. Whatever the situation calls for they can adapt themselves to with very little effort.

If simply left to their own devices, they're quick with a joke and slow to anger, if they choose to speak at all.

Magic/Abilities
Other than their "shapeshifting", Never has no magical ability to speak of.

They tend to be very good with people, if that can be considered its own skill, and like most members of Cirque du Fantasma they know their way around a number of weapons--mostly small blades.

Relationships
The members of the circus are all a family.

Of particular note to Never is the Ringmaster, who sometimes seems to see something... something particular when he looks at shapeshifter.

History
Nevari Catralist was born somewhere in the slums of Reajh. They have no idea if the brothel where they were raised was actually their birthplace, but it was home enough until they were nearly fourteen. Their foster family was always relatively open minded about their odd "quirk", but it was a struggle to keep it hidden from clients.

Eventually, they were exposed, and of course it was assumed that the ability was a magical gift in practice, no matter how vehemently Never protested that they had no control over it. Terrified of being sent to a mage camp, or even killed outright, they ran.

Lucky for them, the circus happened to be set up not too far outside of the city. They more or less blundered onto the fairgrounds, where Viserian took one look at them and offered a new home with Fantasma, for as long as they wanted it.

Hi guys!

Okay, so I played a oneshot last night of "Under Hollow Hills" (if you don't know what it is please go look it up and play it with all your friends, it's awesome ^.^), and I completely fell in love with the character I played.

So in love that I didn't wanna stop playing her. So I gave her a profile on SotE.

Here she is.

She's creepy and seductive and powerful and weirdly vulnerable and was so so much fun to play. Her archetype is based vaguely off of kelpie lore-- y'know, the faerie shapeshifters that typically take the form of a pretty horse or pretty person to lure in their victims before drowning and eating them?

So. I guess I'm looking for a variety of things, which could come from different characters or could be all-in-one:
     1. I want someone to teach this b**** empathy. She is sorely lacking in it, and
honestly I'm not sure if she's capable of it, but it'd be fun to try.
     2. An enemy, a hunter, a rival: someone tasked with or just compelled to either
curtail the threat she poses or remove it entirely (for whatever reason)
     3. Last, I think, the Night Mare really just needs a friend. Like empathy, friendship
is almost an entirely foreign concept to her, and I for one would be fascinated
to watch her try to figure it out.

If any of that interests you just lemme know!

Also go play Under Hollow Hills. Seriously.

Physical Description
The Night Mare takes a variety of forms, though her "true form" is that of a massive, glossy black mare, always dripping wet, with burning red eyes and sharp, serrated teeth.

Spoiler

[close]

However, as Jette (and a variety of her other aliases), she takes the form of a beautiful, alluring woman with black hair and bone pale skin. Her eyes are dark and surprisingly calm-- save for when her ire is stoked and they flash crimson-- and she seems to be constantly wearing a glossy black paint on her lips. She favors luxurious, silky garments, though she nearly always goes barefoot.

Spoiler

Art Credit: Ronnie is Tired on twitter
[close]

When not in her true form or her human guise, she typically exists in the shape of a large, velvet black mare, rather unremarkable in comparison to dozens of other similar horses.

No matter what form she takes, the Night Mare always has with her a simple but elegant silver necklace. She never wears it, but it is always on or near her person.

Personality
Lady Capalla, as she most often identifies herself of late, is rather an enigma. She speaks rarely, if at all, though when she does it is almost always to make note of an important factor as yet unnoticed by others, or to make a promise of either love or terror...sometimes both.

There is something inherently contradictory about her; her aura is at once both beguiling and forbidding, welcoming and unapproachable. Consequently, she doesn't really interact with other people much, and even those who do dare approach her often only do so once.

Still, she is a witty and enchanting conversationalist, in the very rare moments when one can actually manage to engage her in conversation.

Magic/Abilities
Aside from her shape-changing ability, Deep Wisdom has an arsenal of magical abilities at her disposal.

To meet her eyes is inherently dangerous. With just a look and the right push of magic, she can drag you under: a person could forget utterly who they are-- or quite literally drown on dry land, the air in their mouth and lungs turned instantly to icy water. Of course there are rules around when she can use such magic, though she doesn't seem interested in sharing the details.

She also has the ability to offer truth and hear it given in return; the Night Mare could say anything, any deep truth, and posit a question which her victim must answer just as honestly.  (This, however, is more dangerous for her than her other gifts, and she tends not to use it too much.)

She is, of course, inhumanly strong and fast. Once she has you in her grip or on her back, there is no escape.

There is a rumor, almost more of a folktale, that if someone could place the silver necklace she always carries around her neck, or bridle her with the silver bit that the necklace becomes in her equine form, she can be controlled.

Relationships
This is...complicated. As a rule, the Night Mare doesn't really have relationships-- but that is a rather challenging status quo to maintain. Like almost every other aspect of her existence, Eclipsa's relationships seem to be in a constant state of flux.

Hey all!

Got some peeps here that I've either never had the chance to RP with or haven't done so in far too long. Wide variety of personalities/roles, and I've very willing to brainstorm lots of different plots!

If anyone catches your attention, don't be afraid to gimme a shout ^.^

1. River: one of my original SotE characters, though one I have unfortunately not been able to play as much as I'd like. Being a pretty free-wheeling bounty hunter, she can kinda be anywhere and do anything!

Looking For: friends, rivals, a love interest or two-- pretty much anything!

2. Jasper: a young mage on the run from her sadistic and incredibly dangerous mentor, currently hiding out in Connlaoth.

Looking For: someone to force her to face her demons, either by hunting her down as a dangerous mage or by befriending and helping her (or both!!)

3. Jynx: a demonlord with a countdown on her life that she is coming dangerously close to running down...

Looking For: a partner in crime, a rival, a contract to help her out of her present mess...lots of options, really, and many could come in combination ;D

4. Huanani: Nani is a bit more specific; as a Paladin, she seeks to find her Charge and fulfill her purpose of protecting this person

Looking For: her Charge, or someone who can help her find them (I have a couple specific ideas about how my "Paladins" work, so if you're curious about Nani just hit me up and we can chat!)

5. Leon and Noel: half-demon brothers who give a new meaning to the phrase "double trouble"

Looking For: gosh, really anything. Friends, enemies, estranged family, employers, lovers...really, you name it, we can talk about it.

6. Kiara: yes, once more I am pimping out Kiara-- what can I say? She's my first gal and in my humble opinion this half-fae dragonrider never gets enough love

Looking For: a traveling companion, probably, though that doesn't have to be a permanent thing. Really just a friend or two, maybe some contacts she can keep coming back to. Or, if you wanna get deep in the paint with me, someone who will bring Kia's fae ancestry to the front and force her to deal with it (mwahahaha...)

UPDATE: since the boys got claimed, I'm adding someone else ^.^

7. Adrianna: The Heart Eater (which is a much scarier title than she really deserves, honestly)

Looking For: someone to siphon emotions off of! Cuz that's what she does! Also just, like...a friend? Maybe someone who'd be interested in helping her figure out how her curse works/how to get rid of it?

SECOND UPDATE (I know I'm ridiculous shh)

8. Karyn: Half dragon half-elf on perpetual babysitting duty.

Looking For: Friend, enemy, or employer! He's been stuck with his mopey dragon dad (who will most likely turn up in any threads he's in) for the last twenty years and honestly just needs a break.

He's also got a half-sister he's never met, if you're in the mood for some Family Quest Shenanigans(TM)

ANOTHER UPDATE

9. Rory: the strong-willed and magically gifted daughter of a Serenian noble house, currently nearing the end of her education at Wyrdwood.

Looking For: So I actually have this idea of Rory's family arranging a match for her once she's out of school--could be a classmate, a childhood friend, or someone she's never met. My plan here--so much as there is one, lol--is that the relationship doesn't have to be romantic! In fact I think it might be more interesting to explore how a friendship might evolve out of such an arrangement.

Additionally, any school friends (or rivals) would be fun!

Hey y'all!!!

Pimping out some characters: I've got Lapis, and by extension her frenemy Zahir (his profile link is on hers), who I've been itching to get into a real adventure with!

Guilds / The Moonflower Herd
April 14, 2019, 04:56:08 PM
The Moonflower Herd

Formed from the ragged remnants of a once mighty centaur Herd that used to roam the Serha Grasslands, the Moonflower Herd is now a small shadow of what it once was. Though their numbers have been decimated, the Herd believes that the essence of who and what they are has survived-- and under the leadership of their newest Lead Mare, the Herd's spiritual guide, they are prepared to do whatever it takes to go on surviving.

History

The Moonflower Herd was officially formed after Camellia, struggling to lead the few survivors of her Herd north into Serendipity after an attack by plains raiders that had absolutely decimated them, stumbled upon a strange fae dwelling she would later learn was called the Moonlit Glade.

The guardian of the Glade, a fae creature called Lakali who rather resembles a centaur herself, took pity or the lost and desperate mare. She sat and listened as Camellia told her of her Herd and their traditions as nomadic hunters and traders, how humans had beat them back time and again from encroaching on their lands, how they and Herds like them had taken to fighting back, believing firmly that they must attack first before they were wiped out forever--and how she feared that it was such action which had led her Herd to ruin.

Lakali comforted the young mare who had lost much in the destruction of her home and family. Only dregs of her Herd survived, and she was meant to lead them, but she did not know how.

So Lakali made her an offer. War had brought only pain and heartache to Camellia's people; the Guardian proposed that perhaps peace would lead them to salvation. As long as the Herd would uphold the ideal of protecting their balance with the world around them, they would travel with the protection of the Moonlit Guardian.

It has been nearly five years since that day, and the Moonflower Herd (named for the Glade where Camellia found their salvation) has slowly rebuilt itself in this new image.

Practices/Ideology

1. Protect the peace above all
2. The Moon is our guide
3. Any seeking asylum will be granted it, regardless or who or what they are and where they come from

Physical Description
Camellia has the lower half of a graceful, camello paint mare, with white streaks through her caramel hair and tail to match her coat. Her upper half is that of a wiry but still somehow graceful woman. Her features are sharp and strong, though often hold a gentleness that makes her seem more approachable than first impressions might indicate her to be.

She has one "wall eye", meaning that the right is a clear, pale blue, while the left is deep brown--a marking common enough in paint horses, and evidently applicable to centaur-ish counterparts.

Personality

She believes in peace above all things, and this reflects strongly in almost every aspect of her personality. She is non-combative, though a ready mediator in disputes, and she excels as a spiritual leader for her Herd with a strong but not overbearing kind of charisma.

Magic/Abilities
Camellia has a very faint gift of Sight which often manifests in semi-prophetic dreams. Since her meeting with Lakali, the Keeper of the Moonlit Glade, these visions have become steadily more reliable.

Though she is staunchly pacifist, if she must defend herself Camellia is adept with wielding a pair of duel swords, and she's not a back shot with a recurve bow.

Relationships
Bree, her younger sister, who she hasn't seen since she was a child and their first herd fell apart.

Her mate, Staluk

The rest of the Moonflower Herd

History
Camellia once belonged to a massive Herd that roamed the grasslands of Adela, but when she was fifteen they were attacked and most of them killed. The straggling remnants of her Herd traveled north, into Serendipity, and became the Moonflower Herd.

As the daughter of the Herd's last Lead Mare, Camellia was the heir to lead the survivors. She has changed the Herd's ideals radically, steering them into a life of hard-line pacifism. It was not easy, and she often deals with argument from a discontented people who still thirst for vengeance, but so far no one has directly challenged her and her mate's leadership.

Before her first Herd fell, Camellia lived a relatively "normal" life. Her mother was Herd Mare before her, and from a very young age she was groomed to take over her mother's place when she came of age. Her father was killed in a raid when she was about eleven, and her mother took a new mate a year later, eventually producing Camellia's younger half-sister Brianna.

The raid that destroyed their Herd happened when little Bree was barely three years old, and both she and Camellia's mother and stepfather were captured by slavers in the chaos. Camellia has not seen any of them since.

She had barely set up her tent, she was still stringing the layers of sheer black and shimmering silver fabrics that hung between her "reading room" and where she slept, when that by now all-too-familiar chill ran down her spine. The hair at the back of her neck stood up and she tensed, her shoulders creeping up toward her ears.

Then she shook her head briskly and set about continuing her her task, jaw set and brow furrowed. If he wants to show up and be all mysterious, let him. I have work to do, she told herself with no small amount of bluster.

It had been nearly a year since she'd dealt with this particular entity. She'd started to hope, foolishly it seemed, that he may have given up on her.

Still, nothing she could do about it now. The Ringmaster might stop by later and that could be an issue, but barring outside intervention she didn't exactly have a great track record conversing with this particular spirit...or whatever the hells he was.

As she finished the last minute touches to her tent-- they'd be in this camp two weeks at least, so she got add some decorations, light some incense, little liberties-- Mira swept back into the personal end of the tent and set a teapot to boiling with a flick of her fingers, fastidiously recovering two intricately molded clay cups from a box of personal belongings and setting them on the small table beside her cot before crossing back to the now steaming water and adding a mix of her favorite jasmine and chamomile tea leaves.

She glanced around as she worked. Still couldn't see him, but that didn't mean he wasn't there. He seemed to have a harder time hiding from her than most mortals, but that didn't mean her sight was foolproof.

When the teapot began to whistle, she lifted it from the small bed of coals and poured the fragrant liquid into the two cups, then set the kettle in the middle of the table as she sat on one end and retrieved her cup, sipping at it delicately.

Her eyes flickered around again. Still nothing, but she knew her sense weren't lying to her. "Honey, I'm home..." she murmured, a little singsong. And she waited.

Serena didn't go into town often, but it had been at least five weeks since she'd really left her cottage and she figured she should maybe try to trade in some of the spare herbs she'd been growing. A large basket on one arm, she made her way along the faint path from her cottage in the woods to the village proper of La'marri easily, unhurried and content.

She'd left her familiars behind, not wanting them underfoot when she was bartering about town, but she knew them well enough to keep one eye out for movement in the underbrush. If they wanted to follow her she couldn't very well stop them, but she hoped they'd listen to her just this once.

As she reached the village, she was greeted with a few waves and some friendly faces from the people she'd helped throughout her years living here, and she nodded and smiled back to them as she made her way toward the small magicians' supply shop near the east end of town. The most likely a place as any to sell her particular wares, and maybe she could trade in her herbs for some materials that were more difficult for her to get out in the woods.

Ancient Serenian ruins may not seem like the safest place to stay the night, or at least that's what most people would assume. Which was exactly why Kiara thought it was the perfect place to make camp.

"No one else will want to come near this place," she said blithely to Kit as she slid down the dragon's shoulder to land lightly on the balls of her feet. She glanced around, arching her back and twisting over her hips to stretch out muscles that had been cramped from long hours of flying dragonback.

Her oldest friend huffed and rolled his eyes, but didn't argue with her. He paced a few more steps into the ruins, glancing around briefly before settling himself in the nexus between five crumbling pillars. He shuffled his wings, veins of gold shimmering as they caught the dying light, and laid his head down on his crossed front paws with a heavy sigh.

Kiara smiled as she moved to follow him, settling herself into the curve of his side. She reached up to pat his foreleg. "Sorry, big guy," she murmured. "I know it was a long day." Kit rumbled in agreement and she let her head flop back against his scales. "I'll get a campfire started in a minute," she murmured. "I'm just gonna close my eyes...for a second..."

Hey guys!

First of all, many apologies for my previous absence/sporadic posts these last couple of months, my life got crazy busy.

Unfortunately, it's looking like things aren't really going to calm down at least until the summer; I'm going into my last term at college and I'll be doing my advanced work and a long-term fiction project that are going to take up a lot of my time. I will do my best to get up replies when I can, but if there are day- or weeks-long gaps I am very very sorry!!

Best to all!!

Smiling to patrons as he steered the two young people before him toward his tent, Vis tightened his grip on both Addie and Rhyske. The placid, friendly expression on his face never slipped, not until they were inside the tent, out of sight from the carnival grounds.

Then his shoulders slumped and he paced tiredly toward a small desk tucked into a back corner of the tent. Well, "tent" was a little misleading; it was essentially a portable home and office, with plenty of space inside and a few gossamer dividing curtains hanging from the ceiling. The whole place smelled of chamomile and iron, just subtly, but enough to catch a guest's attention.

Viserian clicked his fingernails against the wood of the desk, then glanced back up at his daughter and the young thief she'd helped Snake hide. "So. Who wants to explain the specifics of this whole debacle, hm?"

Plotting Center / So...Anyone Wanna be a Death God?
October 15, 2018, 05:46:13 PM
Hey all!

So I've got this character Mira (who's part of a larger guild thing you can read about here), and she's...well, she's kinda married to a minor death god.

Okay, not really a god per se, he's more of a psychopomp (one of those Grim Reaper archetypes). Has a cult following him, etc. All fun things.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone might wanna try to play him? I was gonna try to bring him in on some plots with Mira, but I realized it'd probably be a lot more fun to drag another player into this and see what sort of wacky nonsense we can come up with! ^.^

Hit me up if the idea seems interesting to you!!

UPDATED: I'm realizing that just saying "they're married" isn't really a lot of detail, and Mira's backstory is just a smidge vague. So, first of all: doesn't have to be a romantic relationship. Just wanna make that clear.

In fact, I think it'd actually be more interesting to start them off in more of an antagonistic relationship that either evolves or devolves into something else. (But we can figure all that out when actually plotting.)

Okay. End spiel ^.^

This was her last chance.

That was what Commander Searys had said. Five partners she'd been assigned in her three years of training, and not one of them had lasted more than two months.

Honestly, she didn't know why; she didn't actively dislike any of them, they just...never seemed to fit. And when they didn't fit, they didn't do their work properly, and then she got irritated, both with her riders and herself and then-- well, then things just sort of spiraled.

Despite the fact that she'd been a part of the Adelan military since she was fifteen, she still had yet to "graduate" from official training and earn any sort of rank. To do that, a dragon needed a partner.

So this was her last shot. If she didn't make this partnership work, she'd be sent back home with her tail between her legs. Probably literally.

Sighing, Azalea shuffled her wings and arched her neck slightly, trying to look as professional as possible as she waited in the small training yard behind the officers' quarters. Her commander had said she was calling in someone who'd just gotten back from an...intense mission, whatever that meant. Commander Searys believed this Daxten fellow was Azalea's best chance, for whatever reason.

It wasn't her place to question her superiors.

So she waited, doing her best not to fidget as she stared at the door, wondering exactly who would emerge.

Occupation Animal trainer/handler
Residence Cirque du Fantasma

__________________IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description
Li is a rather slight young woman, with a distinctly willowy build that would lead one to believe she may be an artisan or a dancer, not necessarily an animal handler. She has long, sleek black hair that she usually keeps out of her face with two hastily twisted buns while the rest spills down her back.

Her eyes are what typically draw attention, no matter how much she might want to avoid it. They are a bright crimson that almost seems to glow in low lighting, and rather large in her face for a woman of Thanati heritage.

Personality
Often the “yang” to her brother’s “yin”, Li is a quiet, contemplative young woman with a observational attitude towards life. She often wears a sort of considering expression-- which is exactly what she’s doing, considering. Watching, listening, learning, debating all the pros and cons of a situation before she makes any sort of decision.

Understandably, she can be more than a little wary of strangers, to the point of standoffishness. But to those who know her, she is perfectly friendly, and often a supportive companion. She’d much rather listen to others’ woes than think about her own, so she is a perfect shoulder to cry on.

Magic/Abilities
Li has a strong beastspeaking ability, but no other magical talent to speak of.

She's also passably useful with a blade, if she has to be, though she prefers to avoid weaponry.

Relationships
Her twin brother, Sun, is her closest relationship.
Spoiler
[close]
She also has a strong bond with the many animals of the circus, and considers them her extended family. The people she's a little wary of, but she's slowly learning to trust.

History
From the moment she was born, Li’s eyes got her labeled as “dangerous”, “possessed”, and “demon spawn” in Thanatos-- her beastspeaking ability, when it became clear at the age of four, was just the icing on the cake.

Her parents were...not good about the whole thing. They didn't outright try to kill their daughter, but if you ask her twin Sun they did just about everything else.

In an effort to protect her from their parents and the world in general, Sun decided they’d set out on their own...and they wound up at the circus

Physical Description
The first word people would use to describe Sun would probably be “scruffy”. At nineteen, he’s a bit shorter and scrawnier than he’d like to be, his jet black hair often unkempt and a perpetual peach-fuzz beard prickling at his jawline. His eyes are deep brown, and often narrowed into a hard expression of suspicion.

Despite his smallish build though, Sun is all lean muscle. He may be little, but he is dense.

Personality
Li used to tease her brother that he has a “small dog complex”; he feels the need to make up for people underestimating him because of his size, so he’s constantly shouting or picking a fight with someone.

Beneath that rough exterior though, Sun is truly a caring, loyal person. He would walk the world over to protect his sister, without complaint.

Magic/Abilities
While he has no particular magical gift, Sun has studied a variety of martial arts throughout his relatively short life, and is a very adept fighter.

He can use a bow, a sword, a dagger, a staff, and even shuriken. But his most lethal weapons are his hands and feet.

Relationships
His twin sister Li is his best friend.
Spoiler
[close]
While he still doesn’t exactly trust the people of the circus, he’s learning to get along with them.

History
At a very young age, Sun learned to defend himself and his sister. He would spend a majority of his childhood sneaking into dojos or begging wandering warriors to teach him their skills, and gradually he became a formidable warrior in his own right.

Of course, it was all to protect Li. And when his strength alone wasn’t enough to defend his sister, he ran away with her, hitching a ride on the first boat out of Thanatos and never looking back.

Lore Submissions / Riding Dogs
October 09, 2018, 12:42:57 PM
Riding Dogs
((Art credit to SkyOpium on DeviantArt))

1. Description
Riding dogs are pretty much exactly what they sound like: massive dogs that are big enough to act as mounts or other beasts of burden.

They have heavy shoulders and thick coats of fur, with long, fluffy tails, and often a thick ruff and/or trail of fur down their spines that their handlers typically refer to as a "mane".

They come in a variety of colors and patterns, though typically nothing too far outside of what you might see in other breeds of dog.

2. Social Habits

Like most other canines, riding dogs are pack animals. They are incredibly social, to the point where living solitary lives can be actively detrimental to their health. Their bonding instincts are incredibly strong, and once they've decided a person is pack, they're pack forever.

Of course, on the other hand, that means they are incredibly protective of those they consider "theirs", and can be a little standoffish, or downright hostile, to those not in their "pack".

3. Intelligence
Riding dogs are wonderfully intelligent creatures, as are most canines; however, while they have a few behavioral quirks other dogs might not have, they aren't necessarily any more or less intelligent than other domesticated canines.

4. Diet

Carnivores, for the most part. Due to the fact that their species originated in colder climates, they tend to be able to survive on less food than one might suspect, and have a habit of gorging themselves at one meal and then not eating for a day or so.

They are naturally talented fishers, though they hunt other meat as well.

5. Habitat

Though they originated in the mountains and forests bordering the tundra and are most comfortable in cooler climates, riding dogs have recently started to spread south, and new breeds are being experimented with.

With proper care and grooming (and plenty of hydration), they can survive in just about any non-tropical, non-desert ecosystem.

Physical Description
Elea is a slight woman, with fiery orange-red hair and warm brown eyes that are well creased at the corners with laugh lines. She has a slightly upturned nose and a rather small mouth that seems to exist in a perpetual state of smiling amusement or pursed irritation-- and nothing in between. Of an average height, her build leans toward willowy, and she moves with the kind of grace a person cannot learn, only be born with.

Elea's husband, Myst, is a creature of fae persuasion, the gossamer dragonfly wings that grow from his shoulders proof of this if nothing else. Though taller than his wife, he is not ridiculously tall, and possesses a rather slender build. His hair is a shade of almost matte silver, eyes a bright green.

Personality
Both Elea and Myst tend to be rather happy-go-lucky people, friendly and warm to just about everyone, if not necessarily possessing of trusting natures (much like many members of the Cirque du Fantasma).

Despite her relatively young age, Elea tends to be a bit of a mother hen, and often frets over her husband, the Ringmaster, the other performers...really anyone who will sit still and let her fuss.

By contrast, Myst is a bit of a daredevil, and one of his favorite pass-times is seeing just how far he can push his wife's irritation before she gets truly angry with him.

Magic/Abilities
Both Myst and Elea possess musical gifts that are nothing sort of magical.

While Myst can cajole a a bird from a tree or a hare from his warren with just a few notes trilled on his flute. Humans are not quite as susceptible to his music, but most tend to find themselves calmed in its presence

Additionally, as a being of Fae descent, Myst can perform a variety of nature related spells with little to no effort, as well as cast a brief hypnosis over people, though he rarely uses these skills.

Elea, meanwhile, can use the magic ability inherent in her voice to evoke or suppress specific emotional auras in an area, and sometimes even create minor, cosmetic magical effects--a flash of light, a burst of color, things of that nature.

These gifts are particularly useful, though typically the Ringmaster simply employs Myst and Elea to add a special ambiance to other performer's acts: a role they are more than content with.

Relationships
Each other, and the rest of the circus performers.

...But mostly each other. They are actually soulbound, a condition faeries of Myst's line can evoke in the event they should find a mate of a more "mortal" persuasion; this ties their life forces together, so that one will not die without the other.

History
While not much is known about Myst and Elea's pasts, though those close to them have managed to glean that it was their relationship that resulted in Elea being exiled from her home and the two taking to the road as travelers-- a point of great pain for Myst, so neither of them really bring it up much.

They have been traveling with the circus for over six years, since Elea was barely twenty.

Wester Highlands / Come One, Come All! [Open, PM to Join!]
September 25, 2018, 01:02:02 PM
((Hey guys! So this is my first thread for circus shenanigans! Please PM if you wanna jump in! ^.^))

"Hello, hello, and welcome to the Cirque du Fantasma, a world within a world where you may escape from the hum-drum of your everyday life and into a fantasia of magic, romance, myth, and danger!"

Viserian Alamoch tipped his tall hat to the group of young woman that had crept cautiously closer to the edge of the carnival grounds. They'd been setting up for a few hours now, just a few minutes outside of this small village in the Serenian highlands, but so far only a few people had been interested or irritated enough to come see what all the commotion was about.

The girls squeaked and tittered amongst themselves, then hurried off. He wasn't worried, still smiling and calling out to anyone who happened to pass by while the tents and stalls went up behind him.

"Yes, that's right, step right up, step right up! Come one, come all, come experience the mystery and majesty!"

Carnival members hurried back and forth across the grounds behind him, calling out to each other, laughing, shouting insults and orders in equal measure, a few demanding to be given back certain props or costumes.

A pale young woman with sleek black hair leaned out over the front of her stall, a small tent that smelled strongly of incense set up behind her. She smiled mysteriously at anyone who bothered to glance in her direction.

"Speak through the Veil?" she offered in a low, throbbing voice. "Lost loved ones still wait, you know. Would you hear them speak again?"

On the other side of the grounds, a girl in loose breeches and blouse stretched and rolled her body over a threadbare tarp, then pulled back and took a running start to perform a flawless front handspring, somersaulting out of the landing as easily as though she'd simply tossed her hair.

She was alone, left to her own devices to warm up, though occasionally other members of the carnival would call encouragement to her.

Under the Big Top, a ghostly pale, almost painfully lanky elven man performed some stretches of his own, occasionally giving a grimace that revealed the odd split to his unhinged jaw. He was hidden from the light, but glimpses were still visible to those who may pass by outside the massive tent.

Name Snake
Age 49
Gender Male
Species Cave elf
Height 6'3"
Orientation I mean?? Who the heck knows??
Occupation Circus performer
Residence Cirque du Fantasma

Physical Description
Snake has albinism, which means that even for a typically cave-dwelling race he is incredibly pale, not to mention sensitive to sunlight. His eyes are large, red-gold, and slit-pupiled, which helps him filter strong light to be as comfortable as possible-- though he still prefers darkness, if at all possible.

Like his skin, his hair is pale white, and he seems to lack eyebrows. His features are long and thin, with an odd sort of hitch to his jaw when he deigns to open his mouth and speak, revealing a set of tin, needle sharp canines.

He bears a set of twisting, almost arcane tattoos over his rather long, gangly form, the most obvious curling over the left side of his chest and stomach. If these have any particular meaning, he keeps it to himself.

Personality
It's...sort of hard to tell, really.

Snake is intimidating, and it's obvious that he knows it. Sometimes he seems to be relying on that natural reaction to his presence, sometimes...well, sometimes it seems like he's trying to downplay it. But it's hard to say for sure.

All that anyone's really certain off is that he's great to have around at after parties-- he can eat a whole apple in one bite!

Magic/Abilities
Beastspeaking ability with snakes, which is where he gets his name. Or it could be from the fact that he can unhinge his jaw like a snake, which aids his profession as a sword swallower significantly.

Also... Contortionist. Yeah. That's pretty much just what it says on the tin.

Relationships
While all the carnival members are family, he has a particular soft spot for Adelaide and acts much like her protective older brother.

History
Not much is known about Snake before he came to Cirque du Fantasma some five or six years ago. He doesn't talk much, and all he told The Ringmaster was that he didn't have a home to go back to, like most of the performers, and he was fine with the idea of earning his keep through entertainment.
