Physical Description

Fair skin. Long brown hair, bangs. Brown eyes, sometimes turn green and glow when her powers are in use. Medium build.

A crown of vines winds around her head. It's not just a decoration: it's actually attached to her forehead in the center. Flowers often bloom at that attachment point when she uses her powers.

Personality

As a street urchin, Millie earned the nickname "Mad Millie" with her temerity and determination. However, her time in the Hauser household smoothed out some of those rough edges. Millie has retained her acerbic tongue and tendency to go her own way regardless of others' opinions, but she learned to express her strong temper with words instead of fists or teeth, and can act poised and well-bred when she wants to. Sharp in every sense of the word, Millie knows she can survive whatever's pointed at her next -- she always does.

Magic/Abilities

Working in horticulture, Millie one day happened across a strange plant packed in with one of her deliveries. When she touched it, it attacked her, burrowing into her flesh. Now it's indelibly part of her -- while it usually hides under her skin, not even Millie knows exactly how much of her body the plant has replaced. It responds to Millie's direction, both consciously and unconsciously; she can make its vines, thorns, and flowers sprout out of her skin at will, and sometimes against her will, during episodes of strong emotion.

Relationships

Thalia Hauser: Millie has been in love with Thalia since she first laid eyes on each other. It didn't work out. They've had no contact for the last two years.

The Hauser Family: Millie's foster-parents, who gave her the money to start a new life on the condition that she never speak to them or their daughter again.

History

An orphan from early childhood, Millie lived on the streets of Reajh for a time, where she earned a reputation as "Mad Millie" for her daring and temper. At the age of twelve, she was taken in by a well-off family, who intended to raise the orphan as a companion for their own daughter -- a scheme that would have been doomed to failure, given Millie's obstinate nature, had Millie not fallen in love with her new "sister," Thalia, at first sight.

Millie and Thalia quickly became thick as thieves, and as they emerged into adolescence, their friendship blossomed into something more romantic. Thalia's parents, the Hausers, did not acknowledge this romance in the slightest, even as both girls put off their expected marriages -- easy enough for Millie, an orphan with no inheritance and no real prospects, but Thalia's parents wanted her to marry well. When, at age 18, Thalia finally declared that she would never marry a man and wanted to be with Millie instead, her parents reacted as any good Connlaothian family would: they railed against Millie for "seducing" their daughter, after all they'd done for her.

Claiming that they didn't want to be "cruel," the Hausers offered Millie a choice: if she left willingly and kept quiet about Thalia's proclivities, they'd give her enough money to make her way to another city and start a new life. If she protested, they'd kick her to the curb, even frame her for theft and have her arrested if she "made things difficult." And Thalia? Shocked by the intensity of her parents' response -- she'd taken their silence as tacit acceptance of her relationship -- she initially claimed that she would stick with Millie, even if it left her disowned and penniless. But her resolve wavered, and Millie knew their relationship -- and perhaps Thalia herself -- would not survive actual penury and starvation. So Millie took the money and left, telling herself that it would be better for Thalia this way; her heart might be broken, but she'd get over it and live a comfortable life with a wealthy husband.

Millie, meanwhile, used the Hausers' money to head south to Ardal -- where she hoped to never see Thalia again -- and start her own small shop as a florist and herbalist. It was in this capacity that she encountered the plant that cursed her ...
