Title: A Box Not-So-Full of Characters
Post by: allthekingsmen on August 17, 2021, 06:21:12 PM
This box is endless... and also only holds three characters for the moment, but more will come. Probably. Maybe. Regardless, this box will never be full!

Do you like tall, lanky dudes that never show their face? Do you like someone with a pretty voice, even if they don't or can't use it? Are you interested in whips, by any chance? If you answered "yes" to any of these, then you might like K'ae (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?topic=26722.msg386520#msg386520)—he's a little shy, but he'll warm up to you eventually.

Notes on K'ae:

Are you interested in winged, non-binary people that tend to stumble over their words and get flustered with foreigners at a rate that's honestly very inconveniencing? How about people that can dance like none other but constantly battle with chronic pain while doing it? Do you like someone skilled in weaving, perchance? If you answered "yes" to any of these, then you might like Vai (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?topic=26794.msg387266#msg387266). They're wildly entertaining, whether or not you're Yoreiqi.

Notes on Vai:

What are your thoughts on fiery (literally) half-phoenix, half-Huohu-ren pirates with cool hair, bold dispositions, and rambunctious crews? If your thoughts are mostly positive, despite possible amnesia and hotheadedness, then meet Ember (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?topic=26915.0)! She might not totally know who she is, but she'll be happy to meet you. Probably. Just don't be too frivolous with her treasure or too rude to her people.

Notes on Ember:

...And that's it for now! Thanks for checking my box!

Hello! It took me a while since I insisted on reading the Ehaegi lore doc. I'm super impressed by the sheer amount of thought put into them and the level of detail.

Since K'ae is currently taking combat-related odd jobs, I figured the best of these in terms of interaction with the other characters would be a bodyguard or protection assignment. Regarding Vai, I kind of want to have fun with them too, but I don't want to make the poor dear uncomfortable with foreigners and I'm not sure if I have any Yoreiqi.

Thank you! I'm so happy that you read it; I go back to it every now and again whenever I have ideas or feel like touching up, that's all :D

For K'ae: that does make sense; I'm not really sure if anyone is up for an Ehaegi bodyguard right now (unless you are, but don't feel pressured to say you are!), but I'll put a plotting thread up sometime.

For Vai: that's totally fine! Foreign OCs can definitely interact with them, anyway; they're sort of curious about outsiders and think that they should get out of their comfort zone a little more with them to better benefit their village and also just generally up their social game. They'll be a little flustered, but not necessarily hostile or scared unless whoever is interacting them is hostile :) Still, though, it's up to you.

I totally am up for Ehaegi bodyguard! I even came up with a few scenarios for different characters, so you can pick and choose.

- Coriander (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?topic=24885.0) is a noble/politician, and that's enough for most sane plp to want him dead. And some of them probably have the money/influence to hire any usually available protection to keep them out of reach, which would provide an excuse for why getting an Ehaegi bodyguard, assumed to be neither affected nor interested in Serenian politics.

- Whereas Eltanin (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?topic=25481.0) has some security in his not-casino, I'm sure their contracts do not include escorting him while he goes outside - and there is plenty of reasons for him to venture beyond its walls. And as he's not Essyrni, I don't think a lot of trained warriors would offer their services to the foreigner - unless they're outsiders as well :>

- Would K'ae like a challenge? If he's taking assassination contracts, I think there should be more than enough people who'd pay to see Lanfearys (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?topic=25448.0) dead. The catch is: he's immortal.

Weird-ass clients for Vai:

- Foreigners are bad enough when they have flesh... and skin... and beating hearts. Hadrian (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?topic=25172.0) has none, just some bones and money to spend. Is undead money as good as living folks' money, or would Vai have to invest in an appropriate sign (https://external-preview.redd.it/OsXpz_zGcn6S9o85OsFVLCAEkmngm2_W6eYX28VK4WY.jpg?auto=webp&s=d9b798ff7fbb45134c98445f2fb1a57fdb593627) for their shop?

- I can come up with an excuse to get Lavinius (http://www.spiritsoftheearth.net/smf/index.php?topic=25389.0) out of his forge and someplace near Vai's weaving workshop. He's also very interested in other cultures, so that's something they'd have in common.

Awesome! I'm super psyched, haha :D

For K'ae: I think Coriander would be a good match—while I think interactions with Eltanin would be really interesting, K'ae doesn't fare particularly well in the desert and might not want to go into Essyrn all that much :P And I think an RP with K'ae and Lanfearys would quickly devolve into K'ae just constantly trying to kill Lanfearys every two seconds without breaks in between due to his mindset of "I have to get the job done under any circumstance," which would be both hilarious and repetitive to write, probably. So K'ae and Coriander doing bodyguard-and-client things speaks to me best, if that's cool with you.

For Vai: Oof, this is hard to decide on (I do have to say, though, that the "appropriate signs" are really funny). Hm... while Vai would probably have a shocked and curious reaction to both characters, I tend to err on the side of the extreme in terms of writing characters' emotions (because it's fun!), so by using some quick internal judgement, I'll have to say that Hadrian and Vai interacting in some way would be pretty cool, if you're up for that!

Alright then, it's time for the preliminary questions.

- Do you want to do two threads simultaneously, or start with just one and do the other once the first is concluded?
- Do you want to start the thread/s, or shall I?
- If a) you wish to have both threads at the same time and b) would prefer for me to start them, do you prefer either to be prioritized?

- Which do you prefer? I'll go with whatever; if you're also neutral on this, then we can just do one at a time.

- I've already done a starter in the Port of Ainu for Vai, so if you want to do Vai and Hadrian's thing first, then you can just react to what they're doing, if you want. Otherwise, I'd prefer if you started things off, since I'm still kinda shaky with SotE's lore, worldbuilding, etc :) But I can definitely try to start something if you don't feel like doing it, yourself.

- If this is the case, then I don't have a preference for prioritization!

Thanks for asking :D I'll be sure to ask you any big questions if I have any, just in case.

Alright, I will head over to the starter and produce a reply.

Alright, it's looking like our thread is winding to a place to stop, unless you want something else to happen there?

I have nothing in mind to add if you don't have anything! I'm in a bit of a creative fog at the moment so interesting plot points aren't really surfacing in my head... but if you'd like to put something different in there I'll go with it :) Or we can simply end it as it is.

Alright. Shall I do a small timeskip to where the cloak gets finished then?

Sure thing!
