Zantaric / Who Needs a Feather Bed? (Kada!)
January 28, 2020, 10:23:53 PM
@Kada
_____________________________________________________________________________

"Ouch!"

Flordia winced as she shifted, her whole body screaming in protest.  She carefully pushed herself up, blinking the sleep from her eyes as she tried to get her bearings.

She was lying in an alleyway, the sunlight just peeking over the top of one of the buildings and onto her. She had crawled under this pile of garbage the night before to sleep, and to hide from anyone who may come by.  She knew her parents and their guards were looking for her, and while it was unlikely that they'd find her in this tiny town so soon after she'd left, she wasn't stupid.  It was wise to hide from everyone if you had to sleep on the street.

She heaved a sigh and slowly got to her feet, stretching as she did to not hurt her sore body even more.  The garbage had been softer than the cobblestone street would have been, but the princess was used to feather beds and cushy pillows in clean rooms, not dirty alleyways.

Her clothes, while plain, were of fine make, but they were now as dirty as her skin and tangle of blonde hair, and she looked more like a street urchin than a runaway princess.  No one would take notice of her, unless to possibly give her a dirty look.

The young elf headed out of the alleyway and onto the main street.  It was early, and the docks were buzzing with activity.  Fishermen sold their catch, collected before the sun had even risen, and sailors bustled about; loading and unloading cargo, buying supplies, and some staggering across the piers, still drunk from the previous night's revelry.

Amidst it all was Flordia.  And she was alone.  Completely and utterly alone.

It didn't feel as foreign as Flordia would have expected it to.

There had always been people around her in the castle -servants, ladies-in-waiting, guards, noblemen and women, tutors-, but they'd all only been there for their jobs.  Had only been there to serve her, or teach her, or greet her kindly with the sole intention of her mentioning their kindness to her parents, the Kind and Queen, so they may gain favor.  There had been select few that had ever been there for her.

At least now, here in this marketplace, no one was pretending to be her friend.  They ignored her.  They treated her not like a princess, but like a normal person.  A commoner.

That was perhaps the happiest thought she'd had in a while.

She longed to stay here all day, but an angry fishmonger started yelling at her, telling her she was blocking his stall and scaring away all his customers.

"They won't want to buy from me if they think they're going to get their purses stolen by some dirty little street urchin?!"

Flordia bolted down the street to escape the man's angry words, and the fish heads he had started throwing at her.  When she came to a walk she realized how lightheaded she was.  She hadn't eaten in over a day, and the princess was used to three square meals.

Her hands immediately went to the pockets of her trousers, and a sigh of relief escaped her upon feeling their contents.  The left pocket was filled with coins -the money she had stashed away in the hopes that someday she would leave the castle-, and the other with her jewelry.  The jewelry was far more valuable than the coins.  She didn't know how valuable, but she knew she couldn't afford to lose them.  Luckily, all the pieces were there.  Two earrings, a necklace, and two rings.

She could use them to get out of here.  Her eyes fell upon one of the huge ships that sat in the harbor.  She could use them to sail out of here.  Her parents would never expect her to do that.  She could escape.  Finally.

Serendipity / Anton Delaware, Lord of Vanity WIPish

__________________Quick Stats
Name: Anton Delaware III
Birthday: January 1st
Zodiac Sign: Leo
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: He's open
Single or Taken?: Married, but only for political reasons.  He's open romantically.
Species: Human (I had 'open' written here for a while.  I don't know what that was supposed to mean, he was always intended to be human. . . :P)
Blood-type O
Height: 5' 8"
Weight: 160 lbs
Eye Color: Blue
Hair Color: Blond, almost white
Affiliation: Neutral
Religion: None
Occupation: Lord, manager of his estate
Birth Place: Summervale, Serendipity
Location: Summervale, Serendipity

__________________In-Depth Stuff

Physical Description:Slightly shorter than average, he's healthy, but not overly 'fit' or well-muscled.  He has thick, long white-blond hair that is always tied back with a ribbon.  He's white, but his skin isn't super pale, and he has an oval shaped face and bright blue eyes. He wears a variety of clothes, all in fashion and fancy.  Embroidered coats, laced cravats, and silk shirts are some of the things that fill his wardrobe.

Personality: The world revolves around him.  He'll do anything to get what he wants.  Charming and manipulative when he wants to be, he can almost always get people to do what he wants, either by tricking them into it or using his immense wealth(and therefor, power) to force them into doing it, whatever it is.
He is polite, but any courtesy he ever shows is not out of kindness, or care for anyone around him.
He demands that everyone do as he says, now, and if they don't, something very bad is likely to happen.  He's not very good at empathizing with people.  Not that he tries.  He gets quite angry when things don't go his way, and can be quite cruel and aggressive as well, but he doesn't lose his head.  In fact, he keeps quite calm, his usual sarcastic and aloof manner in place(quite passive-aggressively, actually).
That being said, he loves being the center of attention, and be quite the drama queen at times.
He lives a very pampered life, but he's no idiot, nor is he wimpy or naïve.  Though he has never experience any life other than the one he leads now, he is quite cunning and can read people and situations well.  Not that he'll take into consideration the feelings he might see in others, except, perhaps, to exploit them.

Weaknesses: The only person to watch out for is yourself, so there's no point in helping others.

Strengths: He has an iron will, and he will not stop until he has what he wants (though this is also a weakness, as it often harms others).  He is also very creative and is very good at acting and writing, as well as chess.

Likes: Himself, sleeping, himself, good food, himself, nice clothes, himself, money, himself, being the center of attention, himself. . . I think you get the idea.

Dislikes: People who try to steal his spotlight, people who stand up to him, basically anybody who doesn't do what he wants when he wants it.

Magic/Abilities: Being Serenian, he has a better chance of sensing magic if it is used around him than non-Serenians, but he has no magic, though he's rather good at chess.  And like it was stated before, he's good at acting. Both the kind used in everyday life, and on the stage.

Relationships: His parents live in some quiet manor somewhere, quite happy to let their son do what he wants with the main castle.
He's got a wife, too.  There is no love between them, and she actually doesn't like him very much.

Friends: What friends?

Foes: Anybody who doesn't do what he wants.

History: He was born rich, but that doesn't mean he didn't do anything his whole life.  While he loves leisure, he's also done quite a lot to expand upon his parents coffers.  While they were quite full when he was born, they were merely very well-off, now Anton is in charge of one of the largest and wealthiest estates around.

Bleh.  Again, I din't know if it's just me, but. . .  The chat's not visible and everything in the 'Forum' section and all it's child boards and threads are text-based only and look weird.

I don't know if everyone's getting this or not, so I thought I'd bring it up.  I know the site's been wonky so sorry to bother anyone, but thought I should say something in case it's just like this for some people.

Kannae's eyes flicked over the words on the page, the sparks flickering on her fingertips just illuminating the book front of her.

She was sitting in the corner of a tavern, reading, and as she sat, she started to read faster, until she was merely scanning each page before turning to the next.

Then she stopped, sighing, and leaned back in her seat, slamming the book shut.

"This is getting me nowhere!" she hissed to herself.  She'd been reading and reading, but nothing was giving her the power she craved, nothing was fulfilling the need she had for magic, more magic.

She glanced around the tavern, taking in the look of every patron.  She needed to change her strategy.  She had always used people for her own gain, but that was usually petty things.  Tricking a merchant into giving her a cheaper price, pretending to help a mercenary only to take the reward for herself in the end.  Perhaps she needed to do something bigger.

An apprentice.

Someone with magic that she could exploit.  Someone who she could use to get what she wanted, to get the power she needed.

She leaned her elbows on the table and rested her chin on her hands as she continued to watch the patrons.  If she was going to do this, she needed to find someone to use.

His attire consists of brown pants that are tucked into knee-high worn leather boots and green or brown hooded tunics.  He also wears three belts, two around his waist and one across his chest.  They hold a few pouches and a dagger and sword.  He also wears a long worn leather jacket that falls down to his calves and leather gloves.  On his back he wears a pack and a quiver of arrows, as well as a recurve bow.

Plotting Center / I'll Make the Character YOU Want!
October 07, 2016, 01:11:41 PM
Hello!

I want to make another character and start another thread.  But I don't have and idea for a character or an idea for a thread. . .

So. . .  If you're looking for a certain type of character to interact with a character of yours, post here!

If you already have a story idea, great!  If not, we can come up with one between us (but be warned, I have no new thread ideas currently!)

Almost any kind of plot works, but I really like conflict between characters, and also I like romance mixed with conflict.  To very different but also similar things!

Anyway, thanks for reading! ;)

Faelis was having an average day.

Admittedly, an average day for him was far from the average day of a normal person, you know, a farmer, a shopkeeper.  Yes, an average day for the elf could include sneaking into some high-security treasury and just stealing a few things, and leaving a note with some snarky remarks on how security could be better, or it could be starting a barfight and ending up running from the city guard.

But today, while average, was coming off as uneventful to the thief.  Sure, he had pickpocketed some wealthy nobles walking through the crowded market, and he had even managed to get a necklace right off of a Lady's neck.  The elf really liked Cerenis, the market was always lively, and there was always something going on, but now Faelis was sitting in a rather nice inn, the Copper Inn, and was drinking a mug of ale and just relaxing.  He was sitting in a darker booth in the corner, just watching the people come and go.  The barmaids would've kicked him out long ago, he knew, for staying here so long and for how he looked, black clothes, black hair, piercings, but he kept buying drinks, and he did have a way with words when he wanted to.

He wasn't waiting for anyone, or looking for a job, but just sitting, and contemplating what his next job would be, who he would steal from next.

While he had been looking for a place to have a drink, he thought about finding a place and, after his drink, of course, starting a fight, but he had decided on the Copper Inn, and, since he liked the place, he wasn't going to start a fight here.

It was a wonderful day to be sailing.

There was a stiff wind and the water was mostly calm as the large ship moved along.  It was a cargo vessel, but Kirl Moonharber and her hyena companion, Oax, had managed to get passage from Thanatos to a rather large port town in Adela.   Currently, the teenage girl was up in the crow's nest, looking over the sea, Oax down beneath her, looking up and waiting for her to come down.

Kirl was somewhat familiar with the sea and ships, as she had spent nearly three months as a crewmember of one, and while she was no expert, the captain of the ship, a man named Cortland, had agreed that if she would work with them she could get a cheaper price for the voyage after she proved what she knew about sailing.

And that was how it started.

"Ship to starboard!" she shouted down to the deck, the  sails of the other ship still in her view.

She didn't know what sort of ship it was, or if it was hostile or not, but all the same, the crewmembers below burst into action.

Kirl looked back over the sea, lifting her spyglass to her eye and peering out at the other ship that was fast approaching.   She couldn't yet make out what kind of ship it was, or any details beside the fact that is was a ship.

She just hoped that it wasn't a pirate ship, and if it was, that no one would be hurt in the battle that may or may not follow.

Not a good day.

Not a good day at all.   Not that Akhe ever had a good day, not with the sharp whip cracking over her back, or the cab behind her loaded so full of luggage that the horse could barely pull it through the streets.

Akhe was barely a mare and she had already been working for nearly two and a half years.  She had been started far to early.  She may have become a beautiful horse, she may even be one now, but it would be impossible to tell.  Her silver coat was nearly caked with dirt, her back was scarred from the whip, and her mane and tail were tangled and dirty.

She was nearly broken, her spirit nearly gone.

"Hurry up!" the whip cracked again, and Akhe attempted to pick up her slow, plodding walk as the leather stung across her back.  "Useless bag of horseflesh. . ." she could hear him mumbling under his breath.  Not that he ever did anything to help her.  Didn't he know that if a horse was well cared for and worked properly that, besides not abusing an animal, that it would actually work better?

It was three hours later and Akhe was standing in front of a water trough.  The water was warm, but any break was a blessed one in this heat.

Her owner had stopped the cab after their last delivery to have a drink in a tavern.  A tavern with shade and cool drinks.  But at least she didn't have to be pulling for at least the next twenty minutes.

She dipped her face towards the water and took a long drink.  If only this hell would end.

Flordia sighed.

Great, just great.  More lessons.  More studying.  More annoyingly-proper-princess instructions.

The teenaged princess had just been informed that her studies would be increased, due to the fact that she 'is going to become the next ruler, and a great ruler needs to know everything about their people'.  As said by her mother.  And maybe that was true, but Flordia really didn't want to be a ruler.

The girl was broken out of her thoughts as her mother walked up, worry on her face.  Flordia wasn't surprised, she, too, was a little nervous at the moment.  Over the past few days, letters had been arriving at the castle, letters saying that someone was planning to assassinate a member of the royal family.  Rumor had it that the letters were speaking of Flordia.  After all, she was the sole heir to the throne, and without her, someone non-royal would have to take the throne.
"Your bodyguard has just arrived," her mother said. "You should come and meet him.  he's quite intimidating, I'm sure you'll be safe."

Flordia sighed again, but nodded and stood up from where she had been sitting in a widow seat.  It wasn't that she didn't think she needed a bodyguard, after all, someone was out to kill her or her parents, it was just that she wasn't really looking forward to having someone trailing her all the time.  Always over her shoulder, always there.

"He's quite experienced too," her mother said as they walked down the halls towards the throne room where they would be meeting.  "He was a mercenary before this, and he has traveled all over the world."

Suddenly, the world was bright again.  He had traveled the world?  He was experienced?  Flordia couldn't believe it.  He would be able to tell her about so many things!  He would be able to tell her about different lands and cities and places!  Sure, she had read about all that in books, but it would be amazing to hear a first had account of the world through a mercenary's eyes!

They had reached the large oak doors of the throne room and the guards stationed there pulled open the doors, letting Flordia and her mother through.

Flordia looked around the room and she laid eyes on a tall, black haired man standing in the middle of the room.  He was dressed completely in steel armor, which was dented and scratched from use, there was also a sword hanging from his hip, and Flordia rushed forward, princess manners forgotten.

"Good day, sir!" she said, sticking out a hand in a very unladylike manner to shake hands with him.  "My name is Flordia, Florida Gindien!"

Plots!

Yes, that's what I'm looking for.  I just created this character, Flordia Gindien, and I'm looking for a certain plot with her!  She's princess and a heir to the throne of an elven kingdom in Southern Le'raana, but she doesn't want to be, :P, she wants to be an adventurer and traveler and fun stuff like that!

Though she will eventually leave, I'm currently looking for in-castle stuff right now, maybe a lord or lady comes to visit?  A servant inspires her to follow her dreams?  Something to get this gal inspired to leave her home and go out into the world.  In the thread she probably wouldn't leave the kingdom, just get inspired, but if something comes up and I want her to leave, she will!

Anyone interested?

Eye Color: Lavender with flecks of gold
Hair Color: Gold with strands of black
Affiliation: Good
Religion: She has one
Occupation: Princess
Birth Place: A kingdom in Southern Le'raana
Location: Southern Le'raana, Cerenis (second home)

__________________In-Depth Stuff

Physical Description: Rather short and petite, Flordia is slim but still has curves.  Despite her age, she is pretty, and her large lavender-and-gold eyes are quiet captivating.  Her hair loosely curled and falls down her back and over her shoulders.  It is mostly golden, but it has several strands of black throughout.  Her skin is pale with a very very slight lavender glow. Generally she wears fancy yet elegant and stylish gowns, usually in different shades of purple and blue and dainty boots or shoes of similar colors.

Personality: For all purposes, Flordia is the perfect princess, nice, responsible, and does nearly everything that is asked of her.  At least, that's the person that everyone sees.  But really, Flordia is like her brothers, Kilarhas and Faelis, a rebel at heart, longing for more than the boring life of a princess. Despite this, she is quite kind and clever, like Kilarhas, though her daily life doesn't allow her to show much of her true self, and causes her to be very lonely.  She also craves adventure and excitement, like Faelis, though that excitement often drowns out any feelings of warning or fear she might be feeling as well.  Her dreams include leaving the castle and finding her brothers.

Weaknesses: She is too afraid to act upon her instincts and forgo the life of a princess.  She tells herself that it is her duty to become queen, but deep down she knows that there are many councilors that are perfectly capable of the job.

Strengths: She's very smart, and though she's somewhat naïve about the outside world, she's very sensible and would probably be able to make it out in the world with a little help.

Likes: Thrills, adrenaline rushes, much like her brother, Faelis. She also enjoys pleasures such as drawing, painting, and writing.

Dislikes: The fact that her parents try to suppress her want for adventure.

Magic/Abilities: Unlike her brothers, Flordia is gifted with plant magic.  She can aid plants in growing, and also can almost immediately identify almost any plant as poisonous or edible.  She isn't very skilled with her magic, despite training, she doesn't have that much magic in her.
Despite her wishes, her parents refused to let her train with the guards and learn how to use a sword, or even a dagger, but Flordia has a dagger and practiced with it.  She can throw it very accurately, but since she's never had anyone to spar with, it would be very hard for her to become battle-ready with any weapon.

Family
Her parents: King and Queen Gindien
Her brothers: Kilarhas and Faelis Gindien

Friends: She is 'friends' with some other young ladies, but they're not close, and their friendships are quite superficial, causing her life to be very lonely.

Foes: None, but she sometimes considers her parents to be her enemies, as they are so controlling.

History:
When Flordia was born, Faelis was already seven and Kilarhas was nine, and the age difference, mixed with their studies, resulting in the fact that they rarely played with each other.  Flordia has a rather boring childhood, doing her studies and learning to be a lady.  When Faelis and Kilarhas left she had to take up the role of learning to rule the kingdom, as she was the only one available now.  When she wasn't the heir to the throne, her life was rather easy, if boring, but once she became the heir, at age seven, she suddenly became pressed to learn, learn, learn.  Her parents, while meaning well, are quite controlling and don't listen to a thing their daughter says.  She was told of Kilarhas's betrayal, and while she doesn't exactly agree with her parents, she's heard a biased account of the story, though she still slightly sides with her brother. She longs to leave like her brothers and meet them, however, she is too afraid to follow her heart and give up the role of a up-and-coming queen.  She tells herself that it is her duty to become queen, but deep down she knows that there are many councilors that are perfectly capable of the job.
Though she hasn't left the castle for good like her brothers, she often takes secret journeys out of the castle, though she's never gone for more than a night, lest her parents find out.

Commentary: I'm currently looking for in-castle stuff right now for this girl, maybe a lord or lady comes to visit?  A servant inspires her to follow her dreams?  Something to get this gal inspired to leave her home and go out into the world.  In the thread she probably wouldn't leave the kingdom, just get inspired, but if something comes up and I want her to leave, she will! Thanks, @KingTyrant!

"Pfft." Lorin blew a strand of her long black hair out of her eyes, but it fell right back down.  She pulled it back to tuck into her hair tie as she walked down the busy street.

It was hot out, but not unbearably so, and despite being completely out of money, Lorin wasn't in a bad mood.  She had a job to do.

She needed money, and there was a fast and exiting way to get it.  There was a very nice manor house here in Ketra, and inside there was a huge pile of gold.  Well, it was hidden in the basement, and Lorin was very set on getting at least some of the gold.

But the thing was, two people were needed for the job, or, at least, it would be much easier that way.  There were traps, Lorin knew, and they were supposedly pretty hard to get past.

Lorin usually worked solo, the thief getting in and out silently and quickly, getting what she needed for herself.  She was sometimes hired by Thieves' Guilds, but was rarely assigned a partner.  All the same, Lorin like people, and didn't mind wanting a little assistance with this job.

The elf was thinking about which bat she would go to to find a suitable partner when she saw something out of the corner of her sharp eyes.

She wouldn't have seen him if she wasn't a thief herself, because the young man seemed to blend into the shadows so well.  It looked as if he had just picked the pocket of a lord, but the purse didn't look very full.

A possible candidate.

Lorin slowly made her way across the street towards the small thief, being careful to make it look like she was a simple traveler looking to buy her wares on market day, so the young man wouldn't think she was coming for him.  Thieves are generally spooked when they see someone coming straight towards them.  A thief's job is to go unnoticed, and, for most, attention is not a good thing.  Being sneaky was almost always a good way to approach a thief.

The street was busy, and Lorin made a quite believable show of looking at the vegetables of a vendors' stand that was near the young man.

"You want a job?" Lorin whispered out of the corner of her mouth to the boy, being as discreet as possible while still attempting to draw his attention.
