The afternoon sun beat down hard on the island of Yoreiq, and a warm tropical breeze brushed Ritskin's snout as he made his way along through a jungle near the coast. Pollen tickled his nostrils and he let out a hearty sneeze before wiping his snout on the long sleeve of his coat.

He sighed heavily. He was far too old to be taking an adventure though the wilderness, and he almost considered turning around and heading back to his cabin near the beach. Only the thought of the rumors that inspired his journey kept him going.

Recently the Kobold had heard stories of a man who lived far away from any village on the island. Stories told that the man could somehow understand anyone, and talk to them as well, no matter what dialect they spoke. It sounded like it was some kind of magic or spiritual power.

Either way the tale was intensely interesting to Ritskin, for several reasons. As one of the few interpreters on Yoreiq, the business-minded part of him wanted to scope out his potential competition. As a philanthropist and village elder, he was interested in discovering more about this power and maybe finding a way to share it. And as an adventurer, for that's what he still was at heart, his curiosity was piqued and he knew he couldn't go home without sating it.

And so the Kobold walked, searching for a shack in the middle-of-nowhere. He'd find it, eventually.

Vitam, or V as he often preferred, was sitting in his cottage as he read something random from his large collection of texts and books. He finished his reading relatively quickly and leaned back, his expression never changing, as was his curse. He glanced at the text, and it seemed to float its way back to its spot.

As he looked around, Vitam righted objects using telekinesis, a power he often exploited for the sake of keeping things clean. He never got any visitors he actually cared about having, but a clean home was always nice. He then stood and walked to what looked like a cupboard and opened it.

Inside was some dried meats, and he pulled out some to eat as he decided to go to his collection of texts and pick out something else to read before he wandered back to his chair and sat down, then he began to read again.

It was almost dark by the time Ritskin's search bore fruit. Finally though, there it was, a small house nestled in the wilderness. This had to be the place. Before, going to knock on the door, the Kobold took a moment to make a notch in a nearby tree with his claw. The mark would allow him to identify the tree, and he'd marked many other trees the same way since leaving the area of the island he knew. He would use the markings to find his way back home, when he was ready to return. Without such precautions, it was far to easy to get lost in the jungle.

Satisfied that he'd recognize the mark, he walked to the home and knocked on the door. He felt a bit nervous, anyone who lived this far out had a good reason for staying away from people. Ritskin was curious about it, and apprehensive about it as well all at the same time.

Vitam was still chewing on the last bit of his dried meat and reading his text when he head the knock. He sighed internally and stood, going about putting his reading material away in the slowest manner possible. Then, he began straightening things up around him before he finally began walking to the door. Which wasn't a very long walk at all. When he reaches the door, he answers it.

Vitam looks at the being on the other side of the door, and he would have looked suspicious of him if he could. For now, he just settled for staring because he had to.

Ritskin found himself waiting on the doorstep for what he felt was an unreasonably long time. He was old, but his hearing was still fine and he heard very well the noises of someone knocking around inside. When the door finally opened and the Kobold first got a look at the rumored man, he was moderately impressed. The fellow did have a sort of ghostly air about him, and he could see this fellow having magical powers. Of course, one couldn't judge a book by it's cover.

"Manuia le afiafi," he gave the man a traditional Yoreiqi greeting. The fellow looked like a native, he didn't know any mainlanders with that color hair.

Vitam, despite desperately wanting to roll his eyes and tell the man to leave him alone but sadly could not, nodded as that is the only real communication he could do and stepped aside to allow the other being into his home, albeit reluctantly. But, again, his reluctance could never show. He waited for the other to step inside before shutting and locking the door, then going and sitting again, then gestured for the other to take a seat as well. He hoped this will be over soon, but that wish rarely was granted.

Ritskin followed the enigmatic man with slight trepidation. He sat where indicated, and waited for his host to start the conversation. The silence, however, stretched on, and eventually the Kobold filled it, almost on instinct. "So I've come to visit your home with the hope of finding someone with a great power, the ability to understand and speak with anyone, no matter what their language."

His reason for the visit stated, Ritskin sat back and looked to see if it earned any reaction from his host.

Vitam does not respond, mostly because he can't, but also because he didn't feel like encouraging the other being to remain in his home. Maybe, if it were under different circumstances, Vitam may have showed the other his way of communication, but the want did not strike him while Ritskin was in his home as one wanting to research him. So he simply looks away.
