_______IN-DEPTH STUFF

Physical Description:
Dominique Cazerne is a curvaceous young woman with long, green hair tied back in a ponytail. She has a button nose, and her starry red eyes are hidden behind a large pair of spectacles. She wears a short blue tunic and kneesocks that push the boundaries of Wyrdwood's strict dress code.

Traders's Tongue is actually Dominique's second language! She grew up speaking Old Serenian, which has left her with a bit of an accent. Most people have trouble placing it, but it could be described as sounding "rural".

Personality:
Dominique is an energetic, daring young woman with a passion for adventure! She loves meeting new people, and will always stand by her friends no matter what. She's easily distracted by new things, and has a bad habit of getting ahead of herself and basing decisions off of assumptions. Dominique will always try to help other people, even when it's a detriment to herself or others.

Dominique's dream is to create a cure for Fell's Curse- a task many before her have tried and failed to accomplish. Despite this she refuses to give up, and is willing to experiment with primordial powers in order to reach her goals...

Relationships:
Dominique's parents are alive and well! They can be a bit smothering at times, but she loves them all the same.

Dominique intensely dislikes the Order of the Moon, viewing them and their methods of containing Fell's Curse as overtly cruel and defeatist.

Magic/Abilities:
Dominique can create her own custom spells! To an extent, at least. She's memorized a sentence fragment in a long-dead fae language, which has different effects depending on her inflection or if she omits certain words. She isn't very good at traditional spellcraft, though- to the point where other students instinctively duck whenever she pulls out her wand.

Dominique is multilingual! Most of the languages she's fluent in are old and dead, though.

History:
In the time before time, language had power. The primordial fae of Serendipity bent the world to their whim through speech alone, as the very words they spoke carried a great magic. A declaration of love would cause the earth to flourish, and in turn an argument could be cataclysmic.

However, language is bound to grow and change with time. The old words were all but forgotten, and the new ones had only a fraction of their magic- if any at all. While a couple of these new words stood the test of time, most would disappear into the annals of history with their predecessors. Now, the few surviving magic words are severely watered down and labeled as "incantations" by scholars...

Dominique's early life was fairly uneventful. She was born on a cabbage farm, in a small village nestled deep in the Terren Mountains. Completely isolated from wider Serenian society, the girl grew up speaking Old Serenian and paying tribute to fae deities rather than learning the Traders Tongue and worshiping more contemporary gods like Kia.

She was six years old when the man from Fell arrived in her village. It only took a few days for the curse to spread, and soon over half the townsfolk were afflicted with it. Fearing for their safety, the Cazerne family moved to Maestoso while the Order of the Moon was called to deal with the outbreak. When it was safe to return home a year later, Dominique found that the Order had slaughtered the afflicted in order to stop the curse's spread. Rattled, the young girl became determined to find a better way.

Already confident that the Order of the Moon didn't have the cure she sought, Dominique turned to books. After a few years of searching, she found something- an obscure reference to "the power of the First Words" in an ancient tome in an abandoned library. Convinced that this must be the answer, she begged the lord of her barony to send her to school. Having lost family to the curse himself, he quickly agreed upon learning of Dominique's intentions.

Now a student at the prestigious Wyrdwood Academy, Dominique got to work researching the First Words. The library had little to offer on the subject, with the majority of information being cursory at best. With this being said, by her eighth year she was able to compile enough information to lead her own expedition to an ancient ruin deep in the forests of Ravensway. While she initially found nothing of note, Dominique took the time to make a charcoal rubbing of every flat surface in the ruin...

It took a month of poring over the results to find them. A couple dozen ancient runes, so worn away by the sands of time that even the charcoal barely picked them up. It took even longer to translate them, and for months afterwords Dominique barely left her quarters. Finally, after nearly an entire school year, she made a breakthrough.

"But, I feel that"

The inscription hadn't even amounted to a full sentence- but upon reciting it, everything would change. If a mere four words could grant her this much power, what would knowing the full language bring her? Now in her last year of school, Dominique's resolve has only strengthened...
