Spirits of the Earth

Hi lovelies!

As you all (or at least most of you) know, there was recently an event that Goblinfae and I set up. An event full of struggles, pain, and, as always, cake. ... okay, maybe not quite (though Moonie did bring in some cake). The event, otherwise known as The Fantastically Fabulous Flamingo Flyers, Secret Artist Ninja Exchange, or, as it is now commonly referred to, Ninja Flamingos, was a secret art exchange event. Many of you have heard mention at there being another one of these in July, and I know some of you *cough* Spicy *cough* have taken notice of Goblingy and my constant messages to each other. After much discussion, Goblin and I have decided to make this next art exchange a themed exchange. The drawings will still be of the person or mysterious entity behind the screen and will not be the characters. But we are hoping the theme will keep things new, interesting, and add even more creative juices to people's heads!

Now here's where you guys come in: we need theme ideas! We aren't narrowing down ideas right now, so feel free to throw out whatever comes to your mind. Yes, sharkie, that means you can have a theme of beards. However, I am going to list a few simple rules/guidelines for this:

     1. First and foremost, have fun!
     2. Don't knock other people's ideas down, please.*
     3. Feel free to second other people's ideas!
     4. Try to think of themes that would be easy to do... nothing too specific.
     5. Last but not least (and I doubt this will be a problem), remember that these drawings will be child appropriate! So keep the ideas appropriate!

*If you have a reason that you believe someone's ideas is absolutely horrible and would never work, message Goblin and/or me. Don't write it in here. We want this to be a friendly, non-judgemental sharing area. <3

got an email about a pm, followed the blue test down the link hole, and after drinking a tea-tasting liquid, I find myself posting something.

I'm not sure how others may feel, But I love doing portraits of people. but the entries I saw submitted were more of what the names bring to mind. I don't know what you guys think about it, but my idea would be portraits or the faces behind the name in the act of writing. ex. if someone were to draw me, odds are it would be a sketch of me in a dark room, on my lap top in my recliner, typing away with earbuds in.

If the choice was mine, it would be something like zombie apocalypse themed.

I love watching those kinds of shows and figuring out who dunnit.  Imagine drawing people like they were in a 30's noir film!

You are correct Sharkie, thank you for catching that I missed it as I was staring at my phone with one eye.

Please please PLEASE do not tell us what ideas of others you do not like. We are trying to keep this fun and happy for everyone and once we gather a sufficient amount of ideas we can vote on the ones we like for July. If a winning idea is not liked by a member then they can sit out the round and participate again next time. This is completely voluntary and all are welcome whenever they wish to participate.

Just have two things to clarify with people. ^^

First off, Winters, would you literally just clarify what you mean by "sote style"? Is this just drawing someone as if they were a character in this site? We have medieval style up, but I suppose do to the large range of creatures and non-typical medieval wear found, it wouldn't be the same. Anyway, please clarify. :)

Moving on, Zane. Winters was right about us wanting to draw people's image of the "person behind the screen". For that reason, as well as for funsies, we are not doing actual portraits of people. That is coupled by the fact that some people either don't want people seeing their faces, or that they might not want their literal self drawn. However, I do like your idea of drawing someone in the act of writing. I edited your idea so that it's just someone "caught in the act" of writing posties. That way, if someone got Sharkie for example, they could draw a shark attempting to type out a post. Does that still conform with what you were hoping?

You can look them up, but if there aren't enough gamers around here then you're right. ;P That is a problem. Was just a thought.

It's a good idea, but for example I don't play those types of games. Maybe draw people in a style of a game, though? Like GTA with weapons by a car of WoW in shiny colorful armour?

Thank you Sharkie for keeping us on topic. And Ana I also agree you bring up a good point...perhaps we could limit to characters in Super Smash Bros. game or something? I am finding with some of these topics (all are awesome) we may need to go into a bit further of rules and references.

I already know I'm doomed if we pick some of them since I can't draw in the that style or have no idea what it is xD For example if we do television shows I'm in serious trouble since I have never had TV and don't >.<  We'll cross that bridge when we get there.

It was just a suggestion Ana because it has a ton of characters from other games including Zelda and Link (saw you as more of a Link sorry) Zozee and I will just put down Video Game characters and we can work that out later. I don't see a reason to restrict things so much to one game. Was just a suggestion to try and make it more known. No stressing! :)

Well, though it wasn't plainly stated, I basically meant a video gamer's theme (not a specific video game/character in particular) and I also meant for people to more or less pick something a) appropriate b) they're familiar enough with and comfortable drawing.Not so sure that Grand Theft Auto would be all that appropriate here (lol) .

Draw Ana as an elven dragonborn (Elder Scrolls: Skyrim) etc etc...You could draw someone in the style of Zelda Windwaker or Okami or  draw Spice hopping around in a Mario level. xD  I wasn't meaning to place any particular limits there so there'd be plenty of possibilities for one's creativity to explore.

Heck, you could just draw me shaped as a nintendo controller if you wanted to (or X-box but I think that would be...so weird looking). xD I was just using the idea of drawing people stylized after iconic characters as an example and I welcome people to build on that idea since this is what brainstorming is for. xD

Did you guys decide when this next Ninja Flamingo was to be? Or are we going to vote on that?

Weeeeeee've been kind of flying by the seat of our pants on this one XD We figured we would get the voting done first then figure it out? I still have to check in with members to make sure they ARE participating this round as I know a few will be unable to.

We do know finals are coming up for a lot of members and we are taking that into consideration as we try and find a time that is good for everyone. I can say though that we ARE going to be having the drawing period for an entire month like last time so even if there is a week or two or even three there is still time for everyone to get their artwork done in time :)

Hello lovely ninjas! This is just a friendly reminder that the drawing for your flamingo is due in a week! So if you're a naughty naughty procrastinator (*cough* not me *cough*), you might want to hurry up. :) However, even though there is just one week left, you still can't share your art with anyone or let it be told who you're drawing for!

Now, as a precaution, I would also like to make a note that if for some reason an emergency comes up and you absolutely cannot do your drawing (for sometimes real life strikes hard), please let me or the wonderful Kingy know as soon as possible so we can come up with counter measures. But please, don't use laziness as an excuse. ^^
